the smartest thing you can do is buy it used with a year or so of warranty left. then add 2 more years of extra warranty. (it costs around 2k euros per year for an s class, probably the same for the 7er). Don't ever buy it without warranty. It has so many things that can fail, it's not worth the risk. For example, you could buy a new Ford Focus with the money you'll spend on a few repairs on an s class (like air suspension.gearbox, turbos). True story.
Aquatic Bubble Guy comes up with a bullshit statement -> guy gets proven wrong -> guy calls person who proved him wrong stupid. You obviously have to many braincells to judge who is missing braincells.
ye ye E65 is distinct and sure doesn't look like E46. F01 however looks like E90. This G11 looks like F30. Also, F01 somewhat resembles E65, and G11 looks like an F01 facelift. I think they've cost-cut all designers and use poorly written computer programmes to automatically generate blueprints based on existing designs (5% different, through randomization).
As a Mercedes fan I was wondering what do you BMW fans(those who put this 7 series above the s class) see in this car that makes it better? I think the 7 series is a great car and I'd much rather drive that than what I drive now but I don't see it as the best in its class. Amazing car & tech by the way, would love to have a 7 series!
bro i kind wanna agree with you but the more i look at the car the more i like ut, it is evolutionary not revolutionary. bmw built a proper bmw, yes the s klass is more luxurious but bmw built (allegedly drives better than the s klass). it is all about personal tastes but this car us gorgeou think Sherwayne Morrison
Sherwayne Morrison mercedes and BMW may create cars of the same segments, but their target audience is quite different and that translates into their pricing, materials, design and even customer support. a BMW has always been the more "go-to" name for its reasonably attractive european brand name, electronics functions and driving dynamics, but mercedes is known for its premium badge, interior design and build quality. case in point: BMW is often used as taxis in many countries and people are used to this fact, but when people see the rare mercedes taxis - they are almost always pleasantly surprised. in terms of the 7 series, its definitely got some nice things inside, but imo the s-class is just a whole different caliber altogether. it's got one of those styles that will age gracefully, for decades to come. the BMW's increasing emphasis on the large kidney nostrils, however.. that won't last for more than a few years.
derek400004 basically what you failed to notice is that the s class is designed like a 4 door coupe, and this 7 series is a clearly a sedan, that's why some people prefer the coupe like S class because they wanna combine a "sports" car with their daily driver
derek400004 I think you mean the opposite or you just got it very wrong. Mercedes is used as taxi in many countries, specially C-class with diesel engine, while a BMW as taxi is a rarity (maybe not in Germany). I agree the S-class is best in luxury and the new model looks great but now a days only the more expensive Mercedes models are seen as premium or as premium cars. The customer base for these 2 brands are very different. People who buy a Mercedes are often interested in premium and luxury while a BMW customer is often more interested in driving dynamic and pleasure. And I mean buyers of the standard cars from these manufacturers. The special cars, AMG and M-cars, are another story.
Yung Dro your point? aside from gesture control, which piece of tech will buyers of the executive limo class actually use? It's like Audi making the S8 sporty. Sure it's great and all, but you are completely missing the target audience. S Class's tech lies in luxury and ride comfort, not in the interest of the tech savvy population.
BMW added heated armrests and ambient lighting? Also a new package where there is an executive rear seat with a footrest? Wonder where they got those ideas from. LOL😂
Kaisuke971 There isn't a luxury sedan out there that can top the S Class. Not in technology, not in interior/exterior design, not in comfort, not in anything. Not to mention the S Class was the first car to use only LED lights, and can drive itself for up to 30 seconds at a time. There is a reason that Mercedes's slogan is "The Best or Nothing". The S Class can't be beaten.
+Charlie Long There isn't a luxury sedan that can top the S Class ? I bet you only know 2 cars then. The 7 series G1x is on its way, and i'm far to be the only one saying that, to really compete against the S Class and maybe beat it.Technology wise ? The 7 is forward now. They've just added so much things that the S is not forward anymore Comfort ? I don't know, but the 7 is ready to give it a run for its money. Design ? The 7 is absolutely gorgeous, but it has a different approach. It's a tie for me, as the S-Class and the 7 look really good in both their design directions (executive look vs dynamic look). They just removed the Xenon option wow such great what they don't say is that the basic S-Class is... Basic. It just has LED wow much cool LED come on. BMW 7 Series is the first sedan to use Laser Lights, a carbon fiber chassis (well sort of) or full parking assist (i mean it does itself) for example. But i have to come back to the first part. Go to see a Mercedes S-Class, a Maybach or even a Pullman. Then have a seat in a Rolls Royce Phantom please. even a Ghost. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class W222 S600 Maybach is nothing next to a Bentley Mulsanne and a Rolls Royce Ghost, so stop your luxury sedan shit RIGHT NOW and go to see your big C-Class if you want.
Kaisuke971 1.) The S-Class is not a big C-Class. The C-Class was designed after the S-Class, just like it always has been. Trying to say that is like saying the 7 Series is actually a 3 Series, it's irrelevant. Plus, if it was a C-Class vs. 3 Series, the C-Class wins every time. Even that is a much better car than the 3 Series. 2.) Repeatedly ignoring and dismissing the accurate facts I stated about the technology in the S-Class is not a way of solving the problem. You repeated the same things the 7 Series has going for it, like a carbon core and laser lights (!!!!wow!!!!!!!!). Also, the S-Class does have full park assist, yet it doesn't have the ridiculous smart key to do it. You actually have to sit in the car while it parks itself (such a nuisance). The S-Class's technology is FAR ahead of the 7 Series, and you obviously have never driven an S-Class coupe or sedan to understand that. 3.) I didn't mention the ultra luxury sedans for a reason. I mentioned the luxury sedans. That includes the S-Class, A8, LS, 7 Series, etc. The Maybach is a $200,000 car, much less than the $350,000 Mulsanne and the $500,000 Phantom. All of the cars show an unbelievable level of craftsmanship, but for the money I would take the Maybach.
This is the first new 7 series generation that I've been relatively impressed by. The 7 series usually plays second fiddle to Merc's S class. But again this new one I think is as impressive now, as the latest Merc S class was when it was introduced not too long ago. Also unlike some others here, I think its quite good looking for a 7 series.
Maur Ice so true, all of the little features it has can totally be added and improved by MB. On top of that the S-class destroys it when it comes to interior comfort and overall looks.
thoravian ok so from what I have seen, the 7series has the gesture control and it can park itself. I don't see any other tech in this car that's "way ahead" of the s class. And I'd consider those two features new and innovative but not way ahead, or dramatically above and beyond tech from other cars. Let me know what technology this car has, that is far superior to the s class?
Why so much hate from Mercedes fans (and some Audi fans)? These brands have often different customer bases so it's not like every time one of these manufacturers comes with a new model they will steal all the customers from the other 2 brands. Mercedes customers are often interested in the luxury Mercedes stands for (even as it applies only to the more expensive models). BMW customers are often interested in driving dynamics and pleasure. Audi customers are often looking for safety that Quattro stands for (often kicks in when people start family and have children). This is true about the standard models from these 3 manufacturers. Of course they all have special models, RS, AMG and M-cars, which is a different story. I like all 3 for what they offer.
oh god mate, what are you doing. The way he pressed the bonnet shut, sent shivers up my spine. You're supposed to drop it shut. Pressing could dent it and will leave giant hand prints on the bonnet.
when I first saw this, I said I'd prefer the benz. However, the engines the lightness and the technology included in it with its driving dynamics have completely changed my mind. The merc looks good, but it can barely rival the previous f01 7 series in technology.
Looks boring. Also too much chrome. I bet the Chinese will love it for its flashiness. I usually don't like Mercs but the current S feels more premium.
Sandouras You're absolutely right! I said the same thing when i first saw the s-class. It looks like a disco club with two odious and distasteful jumbo-trons jammed into the dashboard. The BMW ambient lights are nowhere near as bright, overwhelming and distasteful as in the S-class.
Wow, it is blatantly that you don't know anything about the S Class! The ambient lighting has 5 brightness settings, as I'm sure this does too. Those screens are similar to what you can find on a Lamborghini, and are a lot better, meaning more functions e.t.c, compared to this.
Umar Khan So you think a Lamborghini is a good model for the S-Class to imitate when it comes to elegance and tasteful interior design? The fact that it reminds you of a Lamborghini is what would make me think you'd see my point.
Amazing technology, very cool looking too. Not a fan of the stick out infotainment screen, I prefer it embedded on to the centre console like the 5 series or s class.
Never was a fan of those huge top models, but for a 7 Series the expression is much more clear now; luxury as to be expected in this segment. Regardless that I never will be a fan of it or its rivals, IMO it looks like BMW has done it right with this 7 series version.
Saw what you want about Chris Bangle, but the 5 series has aged better than any other car in that class, and he made the entry level sedan look different from the flagship.
thoravian Wow you should watch more TV. Germany didn't give the Greeks money but they gave them a loan and this loan went 95% into Greek banks, which hold lots of money of German companies. And the jews run hollywood and hundreds of the CEOs of the biggest companies in the United States are jews. But you're right they probably won't get this car, they will get a Maybach or an amored S class, or they buy this BMW from a company which armors cars against bombs and bullets.
ye ye you greeks wasted so much money, If we Armenian's had that money we would've travelled to the moon. It is obvious that you're sour about the money you wasted that you needed to write a page of response..
thoravian Your lack of intelligence is overwhelming. I'm not greek. And someone who can't even understand simple facts will never fly to the moon even if we Germans give you a trillion dollars. As I said the money went to the banks not the state/people. Nobody wasted any money because they didn't get any. And as I said it was a LOAN so they didn't just get money.
Mercedes-Benz can rest easy this new BMW 7 Series is no leap forward, either in exterior or interior design. For sure the tech is great, but for me the Mercedes-Benz S Class W222 is in a league of it's own.
I like it, it features nice details like the changing color sunroof and the gestures to control functions of the car, but I have to say that I was expecting way more from BMW.
i do that gesture for teh stereo waaay before you bmw! Whit my right hand.... because i use the left for clicking the volume control on the steering wheel
I had owned 3 7-series before and kind of same old stuff except the new screen and never have the chauffeur package. I was always told MBZ is an old man car. I guess age is catching up to me and I just took delivery of S550 and love it so much that I make my wife the driver.
Genes Maybe, but the S-class coupe is on a whole other level than the 6 series coupe now. I don't think they compete much anymore, with the S-class coupe practically at flagship status
***** I would suggest you shut the fuck up from your typical fanboying for just one second, and see the context. You see the comments section? People are saying the 7 series is one step ahead of the S Class. Now, I'm not quite seeing that, seeing as this video has shown nothing of the sort, other than gesture control. Do show me a video where I was hating on the AMG GT. I don't even remember watching a video where the reviewer picked the AMG GT over a 911. Do you even know what hating means? "go back to your volkswagen bettles pathetic audi faggot." That is hating. Saying the only thing that sets the 7 series apart from the S Class, based on this review? That's observation. Nice job liking your own comment by the way. How much more pathetic can you get.
LOLBTLOLBT that's true but people that buy these cars...are all about showing off what their cars can do...so if an S class owner comes across a 7 series owner at a party...the 7 series owner will probz have more fans aha
Car mad Another case of putting the right technology in the right car. Even if I didn't have a chauffeur or a valet to park my $100,000 sedan, I would not leave it roaming the streets by itself looking for parking. And showing off? Showing off is pulling up to an event in a Lamborghini, or stepping out of the back seat of a limousine class vehicle. Not bragging about how you have a key that can park the car.
Just 130kg??? 130kg lighter still places it well over 1900kg for most models. The current Jaguar XJ weights slightly less with ~1800kg for most models, and the new Cadillac CT6 weighing even less than that at under 1700kg for the base model! With BMW claiming to put so much effort into weight reduction, even using CF to reduce weight, and even though the outgoing 7 series is such a heavy pig, you'd think they could do better than 130kg. So much for the "ultimate driving machine".
In my opinion only, more people go for the 5 series or M Series. For me I would still prefer the S class as I have driven that car as a comparable. For a BMW I'd rather have the M4
You didn't read your press materials properly. The diesel-only engine burns between 5.2 and 4.5 liters per 100Km; the hybrid already burns 5.6 litres if you do not charge it up additionally, i.e. that is what you get during normal daily use. As with all hybrids, those phantastic (and wrong) consumption numbers result from the fact that the NEFZ test cycle is a certain distance only, and since it can run that ONCE with a fully charged battery, the consumption for that single, intial run is 2.1 litres - and otherwise the hybrid consumes more than the plain diesel, namely 5.6 litres. Or re-stating this, as soon as you drive more than 40Km without charging, it burns more than the plain diesel, but your charge has its own CO2 footprint, of course.
Ricardo Lourizela looks like this year and probably next mercedes is dominating. mainly because the designs look fresh and very attracive. this BMW looks like they by mistake put 3 series front to this 7 series...
Teodor Marusak that's because Mercedes looks like a 4 door coupe and bmw looks like a sedan, you cant say everyone likes the looks of Mercedes, are u stupid the 3 series is F30 and the 7 series is G11, not even the same, the next 3 series G30 will be new not this F30 3 series that's out now
Best tech and interoir I ever seen in a BMW. I wonder what's gonna stop working first ! Any bets? Lol The outside is kind of boring. Look forward to the next gen Lexus LS
I have been driving BMWs for the last 8 years now and I have to say, I was expecting more from the new 7 series. This is not to say that it is not a good car, but it does not measure up to the new S class, at least from the design prospective!
5:34 that would be fucking epic. Imagine when you go for dinner and you get out of the car and it sets off to a parking spot, imagine the faces on the plebs on the street.
Nice exterior, a big step up from before. Great new features as well, just a shame the interior design is almost the same as before though it does have better quailty
I can't wait to buy one in a few years after it's epic depreciation
foxhounduk2k8 Just wait until you have to pay the epic repair bills! :-)
the smartest thing you can do is buy it used with a year or so of warranty left. then add 2 more years of extra warranty.
True story.

How do you lower the foot test in back seat?
This looks like a longer version of the 3 series. Unlike the old 7 series.
Eric M E38-E36 anyone?!
Eric M And E65 looks like E46 but F01 is like longer F10
Mmonohcrome No they didnt. different headlights and body shape.
They both looks like 3-series.. E38 and E65 facelift..
ye ye E65 is distinct and sure doesn't look like E46. F01 however looks like E90. This G11 looks like F30. Also, F01 somewhat resembles E65, and G11 looks like an F01 facelift.

in terms of the 7 series, its definitely got some nice things inside, but imo the s-class is just a whole different caliber altogether. it's got one of those styles that will age gracefully, for decades to come. the BMW's increasing emphasis on the large kidney nostrils, however.. that won't last for more than a few years.

bezor Ta I know right, this guy is lost
how many channels is this dude on?
The 7 series is still a full step behind the S class. It looks like BMW's designers gave up and just copied the current A8 interior.
***** step ahead. the amount of tech in this car the s class doesnt even have half of it
Yung Dro What truly useful thing does the 7 series do that the S Class doesn't to make up for it's bland exterior and interior copied from an S8?
Yung Dro your point? aside from gesture control, which piece of tech will buyers of the executive limo class actually use? It's like Audi making the S8 sporty. Sure it's great and all, but you are completely missing the target audience. S Class's tech lies in luxury and ride comfort, not in the interest of the tech savvy population.
Yung Dro s class can drive itself and bmw can... well... park itself. not so impressed with the beemer this time
***** they prostituted out their 7 series lol
How about the exterior floor lighting! How could u not mention it
BMW added heated armrests and ambient lighting? Also a new package where there is an executive rear seat with a footrest? Wonder where they got those ideas from. LOL😂
Oh and interior fragrances too, how original.

thoravian driving dynamics? i'll buy M3 or M4 not a stupid garbage.
Regarding the gesture control... Does it do anything when you give it a middle finger? Just wondering...
What happened to the V-12? @AutoExpress
And the frequency of repair rate, based on prior editions of the same model, is expected to be....?
Can the camera be any more shaky?
Does the new 7 series have seat heating and ventilation at both the front and rear seats?
Mat rockin' the Miami Vice look.
Did anyone notice the red jump lead in the engine bay? Is that a 7 series option or just a car showroom thing?
This guy is really good in presenting thus you'll see him everywhere on auto express, car buyer and currently Carwow lol

One of the best looking 7 Series since the e38 chassis in my opinion. I can see hints of e32 homage in the rear taillight and interior design.
4:06 is that the iconic BMW tower in the background ??
Does not come close the the current S class
Maur Ice so true, all of the little features it has can totally be added and improved by MB. On top of that the S-class destroys it when it comes to interior comfort and overall looks.
Maur Ice looks wise yes but technology wise the bmw rapes the merc.
thoravian Tech is about the same in both cars...
Sherwayne Morrison well not really, the merc looks more luxurious I give it that, but the tech of the bmw is way ahead man, lets be objective now..

how will last the carbon fiber? i hope enough
what happened to the mighty 6.0 V12?
what about V12 version??
Just curious, Is it your first time in BMW 7 series ..?
i just noticed that the Idrive UI looks so smooth and fluid, the same can't be said about the command system.
That 4.4 V8 engine is sure nice when it's standing. Wonder if they fixed it with all the problems it had in the previous iteration of models?
2:11 You can now reach forward and rotate your fingers to control the stereo volume!!!
I like all 3 for what they offer.
i saw him in carbuyer. What is he doing with autocar express?
i also saw him on Carwow lol
why did they borrow the rear doors from the 1 Series
I really like the simplicity of this video.
If u put the seat forward to put your feet up the driver can't see out and front passenger gets squashed
now THIS is the sexiest BMW ever made. Not the i8, THIS IS!!
oh god mate, what are you doing.

Haha of course, :-D
keanehgz the worst thing is they cant even afford a 2001 s class...
thoravian Nobody here has an S-Class. Why? Because people who do are too busy enjoying their S-Classes to give a shit.
keanehgz
Mercedes Benz Best line up is S Class.
BMW Best line up is 6 series Grandcoupe.
Mahendra Dinata Not sure if you're trolling or...
This car is not only car or luxury or others, no this car have a soul, see the desing see the aspects , a castel on wheels
Amazing technology, very cool looking too. Not a fan of the stick out infotainment screen, I prefer it embedded on to the centre console like the 5 series or s class.

Yeah!
Mat was so elegant!
Mercedes' S class is the best.
65k? Isn't that a bit cheap? Wasn't the old 760 priced at around 120k?
Wow that gesture control is pretty cool, will be annoying for Greeks or Jews for being very expressive with their hands though
Dee Jay the jews will never buy this car because its too expensive. The greeks will make the germans buy this car.

ye ye you greeks wasted so much money, If we Armenian's had that money we would've travelled to the moon.
And as I said it was a LOAN so they didn't just get money.
ye ye Good I am Armenian. so what?
The first 7-series I like since the E38 (1994-2001).
A8 will be the one for me, I'll take the S8 while we are at it
It looks bigger and more technological than my home! If I'd get one, I'd never leave it again.
Mercedes-Benz can rest easy this new BMW 7 Series is no leap forward, either in exterior or interior design. For sure the tech is great, but for me the Mercedes-Benz S Class W222 is in a league of it's own.
Great video Mat!
Pre carwow Mat lol
how about we review that jacket?
I like it, it features nice details like the changing color sunroof and the gestures to control functions of the car, but I have to say that I was expecting way more from BMW.
Its hard not to admit that this thing cant come even close to S Class when it comes to luxury refined design and high class impression.
Anybody else think a BMW rep was sat behind Matt with the volume remote when he was waiving his finger about?
I'm the biggest BMW fan, but I'd take a S-Class over this anyday
Beautiful car and a pretty big step up from the current 7
southbeach09 that's why the current 7 series is 15k used lol
need a gyro for that cam
Great Video, you are great presenter. You've mentioned what I need to know.
Is that a Birmingham accent?
Youve talked about the old one by accident!! ;o)
i do that gesture for teh stereo waaay before you bmw! Whit my right hand.... because i use the left for clicking the volume control on the steering wheel
Nice video guys!
I had owned 3 7-series before and kind of same old stuff except the new screen and never have the chauffeur package. I was always told MBZ is an old man car. I guess age is catching up to me and I just took delivery of S550 and love it so much that I make my wife the driver.
I think it's a good looking car. A bit dull, but still fairly handsome.
They should make a 7 series coupe to compete with the sexy S-class coupe
Genes Maybe, but the S-class coupe is on a whole other level than the 6 series coupe now. I don't think they compete much anymore, with the S-class coupe practically at flagship status
Possibly named 8 series
6 series is 5 series-based coupe
But AE ever compared 4 to C Class Coupe in 2013
Genes i am a huge M6 fans, but compared to S Class coupe is totally diferent level.
Steven Ferguson not much, thanks for asking
Auto Express You've been to munich without letting us know ? Damn i wanted to meet you once ! :(
chrome accents are a testament to stagnation in design. at least they have the i8 to look at...
is it mee or those headlights are pretty much (outer design) looks like old 3 series
BMW have taken some time to make the new 7 series the best of the best ,so exiting .
Aside from gesture control, what exactly do you BMW fanboys see that puts this 7 series ahead of the S Class lol.
Have u seen the new 7 series key? U can park the car using the keys mate....show me an S class that can do that LOOL
Car mad i doubt s class owners will even notice it, cause they probably have the driver to take care of parking
The BMW 7 series beats the s class
Kenneth Martin not a dropped s class
Kenneth Martin beat S Class?, S Class now is another level. compared to Rolls Royce and Bentley. not 7 series.
Mahendra Dinata yeah but the 7 series handles and has more performance than any Bentley or s class or rolls royce
Club Bmw Amg S65 AMG has more perfomance than any 7 series line up. V12, 6.0l bi-turbo, 621 horsepower.
Mahendra Dinata bmw is putting the v12 from rolls Royce into this new 7 series
farlar daha farklı olabilirdi.buyuk ve camları daha fazla dikkat içermelidir.
It's funny how everyone is comparing it to the S class and forgetting about the amazing A8L..
bmw 7 series or mercedes s please ???
Just 130kg??? 130kg lighter still places it well over 1900kg for most models. The current Jaguar XJ weights slightly less with ~1800kg for most models, and the new Cadillac CT6 weighing even less than that at under 1700kg for the base model! With BMW claiming to put so much effort into weight reduction, even using CF to reduce weight, and even though the outgoing 7 series is such a heavy pig, you'd think they could do better than 130kg. So much for the "ultimate driving machine".
Love it! Wayyyy nicer than my 2004. However, my 2004 is rock solid and extremely reliable.
I rather push/scroll the volume button on my thumb rather than swinging my hands around off the steering wheel
Citroen sound closing bonnet.
Looks beautiful from every angle except standing directly in front of it. Can't wait to watch a side by side comparison test against the S class.
Headlights are to small!
or just have the volume buttons on the steering wheel...
I like it more than the S-Class despite it being as people say 'an evolution rather then a revolution'.
Could this be any more boring? What's wrong with BMW designers? Seriously...
Ricardo Lourizela im going to repeat sell out prostitutes, they decided to take a more conservative approach
Ricardo Lourizela the different only plastic button is replaced with metal
Mahendra Dinata but you can put larger wheels on it than a 3 series, so its worth it
Ricardo Lourizela looks like this year and probably next mercedes is dominating. mainly because the designs look fresh and very attracive. this BMW looks like they by mistake put 3 series front to this 7 series...
Teodor Marusak that's because Mercedes looks like a 4 door coupe and bmw looks like a sedan, you cant say everyone likes the looks of Mercedes, are u stupid the 3 series is F30 and the 7 series is G11, not even the same, the next 3 series G30 will be new not this F30 3 series that's out now
"Just as you want it."
I like that.
Work of art
it looks like that hyundai that is trying to be a s class the equus i think
Best tech and interoir I ever seen in a BMW. I wonder what's gonna stop working first ! Any bets? Lol
The outside is kind of boring. Look forward to the next gen Lexus LS
Do laser headlamps blow up slow drivers?!
What an outstanding car I must say.
that is why Mb is a leader ...
134mpg?
Those are BMW i-mpg though, which is this is anything like the i8 means somewhere near 30mpg.
It's gorgeous, and as a Beemer man I feel like I should take it. But it doesn't strike me as quite a luxury pool as the S-Class. And that's a shame.
Nice exterior, a big step up from before. Great new features as well, just a shame the interior design is almost the same as before though it does have better quailty
Exterior looks to common. Why not rise the car little bit like in 5 series GT.
