So is the A8 a good car or not? It's not according to this video, but it is according to your website.
My BMW 750i is an absolute hoot to drive. I've driven professionally for three decades and was starting to get bored stiff behind the wheel. The Bimmer puts a smile on my face every time, even just going for groceries :)

In my experience of the three German giants MB seems the most reliable, but servicing at the dealer is extortionate. A simple filter change and oil inspection service at 48000 miles was £480 ridiculous! I am moving to Lexus next. BMW and audi reliability’s is woeful. Especially audi. Audi creaking is nothing new. The whole last series of Audi models does that. Their build quality is absolute garbage. The new A6, A7 and A8 all creak inside, at least the ones I've sat in, and I sat in quite a lot of them during the last year or so. Every single surface in the interior creaks and squeaks when you press it, especially those glossy black plastic pieces which are pretty much all over the dashboard and central console, even the metal trim that surrounds that glossy plastic is creaky when you squeeze it. Really disappointing to say that the current A3 and A4 are FAR ahead of the bigger Audi's in terms of interior quality. They might use more leather and wood in the bigger models, but they're very badly put together. Grab that central console in the A8 by the sides and yank it side to side and you'll feel the whole thing moving and creaking. They also lost their way in terms of design of the interior, I really don't like the way they look, I think the previous A8 generation was far ahead both in terms of design and especially quality. The new interiors focusing on a lot of cheap glossy plastic parts and a lot of screens with plastic pieces all over the place in general is not a good way forward. Screens look cheap, and will look outdated really soon. This is just the current craze, like digital watches in the 80's. We'll be back to analogue gauges and buttons before you know it, because that is timeless.

This Autocar review reflects my own experiences with Audi and BMW. I have a BMW 750i with Dynamic Drive and bought a Audi A7 Prestige TDI with Quattro. The BMW 7-series with Dynamic Drive is THE best driving car I've found. It erases road imperfections, holds the road well and takes corners like a M3. My only complaints are that it's much heavier than it feels, making it hard to stop in bad weather, and the maintenance I've done (such as replacing valve seals) has been very time intensive. ...but, BMW's SQL-based ISTA is amazing and I've never had trouble finding part numbers or updating my car's firmware regularly. I bought the Audi A7 in hopes of a sportier ride mixed with better fuel economy for my daily commute, but it's just well-balanced and dull. Best I can say is that Audi is very practical. (This applies to every aspect of the car from the steering feel to the stereo.) I have to take turns at about half the speed of my 7-series because of the understeer and there's almost zero steering feedback in the wheel, no matter the setting (Comfort, Auto or Dynamic). Steering feels more like one of those video game steering wheels than actually driving a car. Ironically, I feel every bump in the road (and the roads here in Chicago are horrible), but Quattro works pretty well in bad weather. ...another huge issue is that Audi also has a lot of electronic bugs (such as the mirrors stop folding out if I lock the doors at the same time or the folding screen sometimes takes a minute to initiate) and their Java-based ODIS software requires a costly online subscription package (meant mostly only for Audi dealerships) to do most things. ...and forget about regular firmware updates as Audi doesn't believe in them. (Updates require SVM codes found in TPIs, which are usually a response to mass consumer complaints or lawsuits.) That said, it's a fine daily driver, but more comparable with Lexus/Acura than Mercedes/BMW. Based on my experiences, I'm not buying another VAG car in the future. They look fine and some specialized makes/models (such as Porsche) are great at one thing, but there are too many compromises that I'm not willing to make. BMW, in my own experiences, is more of a "best-of everything" or close to it experience.
This is the very first review I’ve watched where the new Audi A8 had gotten a bad review (mind you in your website it was quite the opposite) you guys are clearly leaning towards performance critique because everything is centered around agility poise and handling, would you test the Rolls Royce the same??? You said it yourself these are limousines!!!
It's not a big surprise the BMW handles better on UK roads. It's been that way for decades. That's not to say the Audi isn't a great car but the BMW handles better. If I was living in Germany, I'd choose the Audi but I'm not so I'd probably buy an S Class in preference to either of them 😉
Cant trust reviews anymore, another reviewer said the Audi A8 is much more comfortable and silent then the S Class let alone the 7 Series, here they are saying the 7series is better on every aspect...Which is it?
all specialized press says the new a8 is net superior to the 7th series, you say exactly the opposite ... what should i understand ?? honestly i will not believe u,sorry!
Regardless of which is the better car overall, I totally get the point about having real dials/buttons to control things. these touch screen climate controls systems are slow and awkward.
If you want more power in the A8, then you buy it with a bigger engine, or you can wait for the S8, which will obviously be a car with more capable suspension and more power. It makes no sense to compare the A8 with the smallest, weakest engine with the 7 series and lamenting about the performance.
The BMW and the Audi in this review have roughly the same HP figures. Why do you think it is unfair comparison then ? Both BMW and Audi have more powerful engines. Also what about the misleading way Audi labels its model ? WTF is this 50 figure ? It seems like it is meant to compete with 750i and S 500 but it's nowhere near those performance figures.
I drive an Audi. My next door neighbor drives the BMW. Many a time I’ve asked him ... “haven’t seen your Beemer parked in the driveway. Have you been out of town?” His standard response ... “no it’s in for repairs (again)”. “Oh, sorry to hear (sheepish grin). Why don’t you trade it in for an Audi and get rid of the constant repair cycle?”. “Because I like BMW”. “Alrighty then 🙄”
Literally every other reviewer says that the A8 has a better ride and handling than the 7 series. Your own website ranks it higher than the 7 series, but you say the 7 series is better. WTF!?
I think when just looking to what a car is supposed to do...driving, the BMW is better car. I think the hype with the screens and (too) clean Audi interiors is really annoying as driving is just much worse in the Audi. Good review in my view.
BS review because your website says the Audi is excellent. Not to menrion the 7 series was optioned out to the max. The Audi has all those features and active suspension IF you option it. Next time get the same damn tier of car (engine, suspension, options, etc)
Not driven either car so I couldn’t say which was the better car but even if the Audi was better than the BMW could you bring yourself to say it? I’m surprised I haven’t heard any mention of drifting around on public roads as that’s usually the the only thing that matters when motoring journalists are judging a cars driving dynamics so well done on that point.
The A8 interior is total poop! The exterior is not horrible but it is certainly behind the 7 series. Before even watching one knew the BMW would be the better driver's car. However, both are still behind the S class in looks both on the inside and outside.
@Subi_fan The UI in the S class is not at that low of a level. The A8 is the car with cheap looking UI. It looks like something you'd see in a cad program from 10 years ago.
What I really do not get is the love for touch everything? Why can't it just be some buttons for ex the climate control? I know it's the fashion of today but still, whyyyyyyyy? It's anoying to use, much harder to use on the road, I thougt the development was supposed to forwards, not backwards.
Iceeeen -yeah, but basically people would prefer onto something that look futuristic /modern even though it never be as good as the universal style. Audi seems to apply eye catching stuff to the max, especially in lights segment. They maintain the other things and do upgrade a bit since it is already among the best in the world. Its not a big thing if the BMW 7 or Merc S-class still lead the performance or handling things. They all circling and served under the same government after all
You guys forgot to put “Includes paid promotion” up. The things said in this video are not in line with other reviews of the A8. For one, according to other reviews, it’s the best ride in class. Worryingly biased review by you guys
I thought the Audi would be the winner. It seems that the A8 in all its history it never beat the main challengers. Good for BMW, but I put my money for the A8 Audi
This new A8 doesn't look big on screen but that 7 series does, 7 series has lot of road presence and that A8 is more of a tech factory and it looks from outside the car as well
Not gonna lie. As much as I like Audi even though I prefer BMW and I own a BMW, this new A8 is absolute dogshit. The 7 series looks so much better both interior and exterior
The problem with the S-class is... Well, just imagine a convo between an A-class and an S-class driver. S: I have two big screens in front of me. A: I have that. S: I have a cool looking steering wheel. A: I also have that. S: I have a cool ambient lighting A: I also have that. S: I have massaging seats. A: Yeah, it also feels good on mine. I also got this cool augmented reality satnav. Do you have that? S: Uhh.. Not really.. A: Hey Mercedes? S: Hopefully it's a software update. The S-class has lost something called... Exclusivity.
Literally everything that the BMW has is what the Audi can have and much more. This wasn’t a fair test since the Audi was a lower version compared to the BMW. I’m not being bias but I am being fair.

Evo1122 looks so cheap in comparison to the competition - there fixed that for you. The problem with Lexus and for that matter anything American - is that everything just feels a little cheap, the fonts, the surfaces, certain elements of design. It’s not premium by definition.
Evo1122 what you really want in a luxury saloon is a second hand Mulsanne where a massive chunk of the depreciation is taken out and everything else looks cheap

I think the concept of the luxury product, so well described by the ancient Greeks , is completely misunderstood nowadays. Luxurious , it's a product that performs just as well all the functions it's intended for. In this sense, BMW's 7 series superiority in driving behavior and ride quality combined with it's more functional interior , which you described so well , and also the fact that cracks, squeaks and other unpleasant noises are inconsistent with the high price of a luxury car, are proof that BMW 7 series is obviously superior to A8. Furthermore, the nice, elegant screens that are supposed to make you make your job easier, are nothing but trouble when you drive and do not have the functionality and ease of use of the traditional knobs.
First. Stop gesturing with your left hand like a housewife. I do t know what's with that trend, where everyone who gets into luxury car, begins to twist his wrist and act like a gay. And second. Audi's door panels were not made of leather, but soft plastic. BMW'S were made of leather, and the stitches are visible even from kilometer.
V12 BMW vs W12 Audi would be an interesting comparison

I agree
Most luxurious and NEW Audi and it's already squeaking like crazy
It's not a big surprise the BMW handles better on UK roads. It's been that way for decades. That's not to say the Audi isn't a great car but the BMW handles better. If I was living in Germany, I'd choose the Audi but I'm not so I'd probably buy an S Class in preference to either of them 😉
It is really strange that the opinions on which one is better are so different on each different review
@ 1.18 (who else noticed what I saw?) 😂
I LOVE YOU REVIEWS GENTLEMEN 👍🏼
Cant trust reviews anymore, another reviewer said the Audi A8 is much more comfortable and silent then the S Class let alone the 7 Series, here they are saying the 7series is better on every aspect...Which is it?
Perfect. Thank you.
I love my 750LI!
People who care about driving Dynamics don't buy cars like these.
ohh there are lots off who cares. you go to dubai and you can see lots of arabis driving in 7 series. theh want luxury car and don't like to driven.
People who don't care about cars like these, wouldn't watch their reviews and comment on them!
butthurt Audi fan :D
h2oaddict28 are you psychic? No.
Yeah that's why imo s class is the best car in the class because this car is all about luxury. If you want a sporty car you might as well get an m5
all specialized press says the new a8 is net superior to the 7th series, you say exactly the opposite ... what should i understand ?? honestly i will not believe u,sorry!
Don't believe him, he is taking out of his ass, just watch any 2018 A8 review and you'll see what I Mean.
Its a base V6 Audi vs a well specced BMW. Not a fair comparison.
Name of house song playing in the beginning
Thanks
Audi's touch screen dashboards would drive me insane. Wouldn't be able to put up with finger prints everywhere. Just keep it simple.
Same here. I hate touch screens. That`s why I keep my G12 7 Series.
Nice video!
“Alrighty then 🙄”
Audi A8 is more tecnologic but Bmw 7 has more sensible and elegant interior design. I wanna drive Bmw 7 series.
The best car to drive in this segment is Jaguar XJ and Porsche Panamera. BMW 7 Series is a dud compared to these two.
Nearly everybody grumbles about having screens for basic operations like heating controls but car manufacturers STILL do this
Cars in this category are all about comfort & luxury. The 75 year old billionaire won't care about the driving dynamics. Nor will his chauffeur
Meade77 nah its pretty cheaper than the a8 and 7series especially that font mercedes uses
They all circling and served under the same government after all
@@sevens6666 It isn't. The end...
You guys forgot to put “Includes paid promotion” up. The things said in this video are not in line with other reviews of the A8. For one, according to other reviews, it’s the best ride in class. Worryingly biased review by you guys
That's true , that's the feeling I got as well.Every review has praised A8 over 7series so I'm surprised with the results here
Exactly, the guy driving the A8 pretty much only talked about the negatives
At 8:49 he mentioned that they didn't even put the A8 into Sport Mode for the review. So.. yeah, I can agree with what you wrote, this was ridiculous.
IAm T-Bang not worth worrying about bud
Slashley gibbins how so?
I thought the Audi would be the winner. It seems that the A8 in all its history it never beat the main challengers. Good for BMW, but I put my money for the A8 Audi
Base spec Audi and a high spec bmw , what a "fair" review.
BMW may be the 'better' car, but Audi for me anyday :)
This new A8 doesn't look big on screen but that 7 series does, 7 series has lot of road presence and that A8 is more of a tech factory and it looks from outside the car as well
1:53 king kohli 😍
The 7 series has always been better than the A8, just like the S class has been better than the 7 series. It’s really nothing new.
The 7 drives better than the s class too and its older design , the nxt 7 will finish the s class once and for all
New generation of S class so 7 series is finished
S class more luxurious too
Miky Koon that's like saying barcelona will catch up to real madrid's champions league titles and i don't see that happening.
The 7 Series does not have the latest dashboard, have a look at the new 8 Series for example!!
I have had my 2017 BMW 750i for 2years now, simply the best daily driver ever. The ultimate driving machine truly…
Dull question I know but what MPG does it average please? 0:00
Great Video Comparison. I would choose the New Audi A8 as It features some great tech
Wow a lot of butt hurt Audi fans here 😂😂😂 the centre counsole was creaking that's all I have to say 😂😂😂
A8 for sure 😎
Sorry, The A8 basher moment is at 1:17 to be exact. My inattention to detail and inaccuracy means I should expect a call from Autocar any day soon.
Not gonna lie. As much as I like Audi even though I prefer BMW and I own a BMW, this new A8 is absolute dogshit. The 7 series looks so much better both interior and exterior
😂😂😂
The Audi was murdered in this review.
How is it that you are the only person who says the ride is not superb on the A8. Everyone else says it’s even better than the S Class!
The problem with the S-class is... Well, just imagine a convo between an A-class and an S-class driver.
S: I have two big screens in front of me.
A: I have that.
S: I have a cool looking steering wheel.
A: I also have that.
S: I have a cool ambient lighting
A: I also have that.
Thank you BMW 7 to you all.
Best luxury car is a car who have S class interior, A8 technology and build quality, 7 series dynamic and sporty design. Too bad that car don't exist ... ohhh wait ... Its Porsche Panamera.
lol no
porsche be like
you want wheels with that car
(its an extra option )
how about climate control man its good you wanna try ( its an extra option with a pack )
how about some good seat man
you want some
(option)
how about some ambient lighting fam
every luxury car should have that
(yea its in option for which you should get an other feature pack)
some safety tech man
(its an option )
you want some reverse camera
( its an other option)
you need a tech pack for that camera man
how about cruise control
( yea its an other pack)
some good suspensions with that big luxury car you got would be nice
alban panxhi All those car are german car the option make the car expensive those are not toyota’s
@@taheerfal yes they all have option
but not at the level of porsche
porsche options made it look like we are in the 80s
you want a radio with your car its option

@@ihatehandles3 Quality is expensive. I'm not fanboying or anything, but Porsche's excellent build quality just can't be denied.
why are they needed if with all the luxury and beauty they have a "curve steering wheel"?
and what these two are doing in the oncoming lane?
All you guys in the comments are thinking they’re saying the bmw is the better car . They’re saying it is the better car to drive not to be driven.
I choose the new Lexus LS 😁 it looks so much better then the competition
Evo1122 looks so cheap in comparison to the competition - there fixed that for you. The problem with Lexus and for that matter anything American - is that everything just feels a little cheap, the fonts, the surfaces, certain elements of design. It’s not premium by definition.
@@fettlemaster still looks better than the Audi :p :p :p I think today Lexus interior is nice and the materials feels expensive too
Evo1122 what you really want in a luxury saloon is a second hand Mulsanne where a massive chunk of the depreciation is taken out and everything else looks cheap
@@fettlemaster hahaha true true that would be awesome. Even Mercedes have cheap plastic in the interior like the rear AC. Not the case in the mulsane...
Evo1122 I drive an aging CL63 - horny for a Mulsanne but by god the old Merc is still good . AMG 6.3 (or 6.2) is hard to beat
The very annoying creaks in the center console on a practically like new A8 are all alone a deal breaker for this class of luxury saloons!
Bmw is always the best compared to Merc and Audi in terms of handling, seating comfort, infotainment system..
@Sekhar have you ever driven a S class or A8?
BMW is better then Mercedes in comfort? You have never driven any of these cars :D
@@dimia.8006 Audi on technology, Merc on comfort and BMW on sport. That's it😂
You have no idea!
Great and insight rich review!
I own a BMW 2016 750 Twin Turbo 8 M sport and a Lexus 2011 460 LAWD Both Amazing cars AND either one puts the Audi to shame in handling and 0-60 and really tight turns over 100 MPH
7 series interior is better than A8.Bland interior styling of the A8 not to everyones desire.
BMW looks like 2007. :)))
Clearly the BMW is far superior and I am looking at a 760Li as my replacement to my 640D MSport Gran Coupe!!
Being a user for Bmw 530 d and Audi A6 at same my favourite is always 530
Not a surprising result
A kind of video I was just waiting for a luxury saloon which one is for driver.
BMW the drivers car as always 😍😍😍
Finally, some honesty.
