- We discuss the new 2024 BMW 7 Series. We list the pros and cons of how BMW implements technology, features, and design and drive the plug-in hybrid variation of this $140,000 Luxury Sedan. While other vehicles are in this segment, like the Lucid Air, Tesla Model S, Audi S8, Mercedes S Class, and Porsche Panamera, the BMW has many configurations that suit most tastes.

Why make a keeper car people will hold 5+ years if you can make a disposable touchscreen strip-club on wheels that people will turn in every 2 years? As long as you can wow China with gimmicks...
@@rosgoncharuk2403Chaina bad. Much komie
ROFL, counter breaker!
"the car your dad's boss fired him from" 💀
I could taste the 'passive' narcissism of the boss doing the firing; and I love it.
The fact it has a check engine light on ALREADY !!! Blows my mind
The CEL and the cupholder cover coming off at 3:35 were the chef's kiss! LOL
Oh my Lord I didn't notice the cupholder. Simply stunning.
@@Syncopiathe driveclub profile picture goes hard, I wish they remastered Driveclub for the PS5
That’s a $2000 option, sir.
Ha. I had that happen when I looked at one at a dealership. I just set it down and walked away.
@joelbolton7252 - Timing it perfectly with "again, it's about luxury" just set that B-roll apart 😂
The engine light on at 3k miles is peak BMW.
I’m actually impressed
I can't wait to buy one of these for $8K in a few years to use in my garage as a meditation capsule using the two to three things that still work in it, which won't be the drive train, air ride, or most the screens, but hopefully that soothing voice thing still works.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
You are a funny guy 😅
youre goddamn right, an 8k private room with tremendous audio system and sexy ai to answer your question sounds a focking deal
😂😂😂
The front seats & the Captain seats at the back will be the highlight of the living room.
Massage, cooling & heating for the cat. The cat will love it!
3:30 - I love how "it's about luxury" is the comment as the cupholder cover pops off.
It's an exclusive feature you won't find in any other car.
i was just looking to see if anyone else caught that, fucking hilarious
As a 7-Series owner (G11/G12), I want to implore all of you to only lease, never own. If not for the MaxCare warranty, my 26 months of ownership would have already cost me $38K in maintenance.
Sheesh , did you own from new
How the hell did you end up with $38K in maintenance in the span of 26 months? Did you shred some tires? Consume the brakes? Used it as an Uber and put 100k miles? It just doesn't add up.
Which engine? 750i?
@@hermit527 2:30 in and SG is talking about a CEL. Doesn't seem wild to imagine, to me!
Americans with their "I'll lease it for 3 years so I don't have to take car of it" wasteful mentality that leads to expensive cars braking down strike again. It's your fault that all luxury cars in the USA have about 10x worse reliability statistics and breakdown rates than they do in Europe, or the rest of the world. Same exact cars. It's also why they depreciate so much faster in the US than anywhere else. I wouldn't buy an expensive car owned by an american either.
We have a 740d in my family with over 450,000 km right now, apart from a few paints chips on the front, swirl marks and a bit of shine on the steering wheel and seat leather, the car drives, looks and feels like it left the showroom this morning. Nothing, and I mean nothing, ever went wrong with it in over 9 years of ownership. Regular servicing in the BMW dealership (which was free for the first 5 years btw), fuel and tires is all the expenses related to it. And the car spends most of the time sitting on the autobahn traveling at really high speeds, so it's not babied.
I watched this wearing a Patagonia jacket. I felt like we had a real connection.
BMW tech here. Just got done spending almost all day to pull an intercooler out of one of these to find that they didn't snap an evap hose connector together all the way, causing a MIL at like 2k
61 year old many time BMW owner here, so I'm somewhere in the vicinity of the target market for this car. My verdict:
Appalling.
Remember the classy models of yore? Those days are just a memory.
We have had at least 1 BMW in our household for the last 26 years but the newest one is 17 years old.
I’m like you. In my 60s, owned several BMWs in the past. Won’t consider one now. I turned into a Porsche and Lexus guy.
@@Closertotruth2 Completely agree
@@Closertotruth2 I had a 1999 Volvo S80 and loved that car, the seats were incredible, cant stand what Volvo has become either.
The Geese honking in the background make this video complete.
Yes. The geese were laughing their beaks off at this Ugly Duckling!
The depreciation will certainly be making cents of excess.
Definitely get rid of it in 2yrs oh my the modules that will break.🤦🏿♂️
No different than any other high end luxury car.
Now that's a comment!😂
First thing Mark said was this is a lease vehicle.
@@MurseTech64 Not true. Massive depreciation is very German and British thing. The Lexus LS hold its value the best among high end luxury saloons.
Exterior styling might be subjective but my God, this is atrocious.
Judging by the other comments, it might actually be objectively ugly. Someone mentioned the Pontiac Aztec, another vehicle that was objectively ugly.
Looks awesome from the right angles. you probably wont ever drive one let alone sit in one anyways. enjoy your camry

The amount of grace given here is surprising. I don’t care if I’m leasing it or not, a check engine light and pieces of trim, brand new, is unacceptable at this price point.
Damn the exterior looks like DUMPSTER FIRE. Seriously.
How?
They're still talking about Chris Bangle. Clearly, the herd has rendered its opinion....dumpster fire. @@EndeavorsDnB
Disagree. I look at one every day. It's bold and beautiful. BMW designed this exterior for people who are open-minded and have good taste;-)

It’ll be an awesome pimpmobile in polychrome paint 6 years from now, and nicely “stanced” when the airbags crap out.
Came off the show room floor with the check engine light pre lit
A check engine light doesn't mean something is broken. Learn this, don't be stupid. It's a warning for about 1000 different possible situations.
$2000 feature
Regardless no new car should have a check engine light after 3k miles. Especially not a press car
@@zeoh4371 It's something so minor it doesn't affect anything and can be whitelisted in the infotainment. Even warnings will trigger a check engine light.
That's the 7 series magic.
That front end is hideous... I'll take a late 90s 740iL over this any day!
Ha! My first thought was “Man, I miss the E38 7-series.”
That was by far the best generation 7 series!
For me, that was peak BMW. I still love the late 90s/early 2000s 3-series. For me, BMW died after that generation. That hadn't been a single model since then that resonated with me to any meaningful degree. I'm sure I'll get flack for that comment, but it is what it is. Nothing compares in terms of smoothness and symmetry.
@@erranzimmermann1207 I wouldn’t go that far. They lost consistency, but they still have the occasional nice-looking car, like the E90 coupe or the 2nd-gen X5. But before that they had hold model lines that looked good.
Most sane people would agree with you
That front end. Lord. Darth Vader wants his helmet back.

LMAO... pickleball reference. There's a town pickleball court right across from my house, and a 70-year-old dude comes to play every day driving his 7 Series.
Never jealous when I see one on the road. Just perplexed as to why this was chosen by the owner.
Because they can.
Yeah they're close to affording a Porsche sedan or SUV and yet they pick this ugly sedan.
Exterior is terrifying; interior looks incredible; screens will never not look completely generic.
As someone said the inside looks like a stripclub
just making sure you guys are reminded that what makes this channel special is the technical details and genuine effort and care that you guys put in. i appreciate it!
Along with equal parts snark and brutal honesty. My favorite part is the description of the stereotypical buyer of each car they review. Like who pays $140k for a luxury BMW that goes from 0-60 in 4 seconds? No doubt some rich business owner that needs to get to the airport or get to work to probably fire some people because they need more money. They aren't trying to make a good investment, they don't love the car for the car's sake because they're a car lover like a Porsche buyer.
you mean the dumb guy that likes every bmw, and says b58 every video?
BMW should fire their designers..
I get it, but the designers aren't the root problem. The executives who signed off on this excrescence are the problem.
The ugly designs are selling well. The majority of BMW buyers care more about the interior luxury, tech and driving dynamics.
I think most new BMW cars look like shit...but they sell well so it does appeal to a large audience so in that way they're good at giving what their customer base wants. Me personally I'd never buy a BMW simply cause I think they look incredibly ugly
@@zarbon700 BMW has good designs that sell well. X1 X3 X5 3 series and 5 series. These suck X2 X4 X6 2 series and 7 series.
I think they did. This looks like it was designed by Ai.

I'm too dumb to understand the audio system graphs. Has SG ever explained how to interpret those?
It’s common knowledge.
@@suspicionofdeceitno. No it's not
We need to update it but here is the intro. ruclips.net/video/2RB7otNfB1I/видео.html
A more flat curve is generally desirable as it means the the lows, mids, and high audible frequencies of sounds are heard at a similar volume. This is a flat response. Being able to then tweak with EQ makes for a good sound system.
Sometimes, there will be peaks or valleys in desirable places, but this can pigeon hole the sound, making it less versatile/authentic. A crappy sound system with not be flat, will have peaks/valleys in undesirable spots or be bass heavy to compensate.
If you also pause the video and read the blurb when the test results are on screen, there is a brief analysis of the results.
This car makes Chris Bangle look like Michelangelo.

In traffic it kind of looks cool. Very distnictive beside other cars on the road. The E65 looked way uglier when it came out.

I dunno I’ve seen better looking turds
Had the pleasure of driving the 760i for a few months, the highway mpg was excellent. The ride, comfort, engine power, etc was excellent but as you said, the braking needs work. I was uncomfortable driving in stop and go traffic and size is too large for parking and garage space. Other than that, it is an excellent machine. Great review!
I lost it at 13:35 when Mark & Jack were driving like maniacs while listening to "BMW Art Mode" pre-recording. Love the videos!
Think you guys struck a really nice balance in this video between the humor/jokes and substantive discussion on the car. Appreciate you being able to put the stigmas and stereotypes aside during much of the shoppe and driving segments, and the jokes that did invoke the stigmas/stereotypes made the video feel lighter and less serious without crossing the line of professionalism. Hope to see this approach in future videos.
The BMW dealer in my area is offering about 30K off the tag for these piles right now. I think we've reached two milestones: 1) nobody, not even the wealthy, want to be bent over on price anymore; and 2) modern BMW's have the worst exterior styling (and arguably interior) of any major manufacturer.
It proves to me again, how beautiful my Dads 1990 7 series was. White paint on black leather of a quality unknown today. He lend it to me for a trip from Germany to Italy. The italian girls went crazy. Good times 😁
Love the intro music. 70’s feel.
Nice review as always. One thing I wish you could add if possible is a review of the safety features on these big sedans and SUV's.

Great video, I sat in the back of the new 7 last year and the seats were soooo comfortable!
15:21 THIS is the most accurate summary of what I felt in the rental BMWs I drove recently. The brake pedal feel is horrendous, synthetic, and non-linear. I simply could not stop smoothly. You get the feeling that someone is between your brake pedal input and the brake discs, always adjusting and altering the input in an entirely random way. It will suddenly grab and brake harder than expected then the auto start stop will engage and kill the engine when you simply didn’t want to stop completely and rather just crawl. It was an absolutely awful feeling.
Can we have an entire episode to jack talking about the b58? Lol
opening doors with voice command or nontouch handgestures. just hold your hand over a sensor by the handle like those foot activated lift gates... theres more ways to over complicate this! we can do it!!

How are you guys not the top car channel on RUclips? I don’t have the desire nor the funds to buy a 7 Series, yet here I am watching this review and being thoroughly entertained.
Also thanks for including Genesis as one of the cars in this segment. I feel like reviewers are still honed in on the Mercedes, Audi, BMW trio and Genesis has some legit cars and SUVs that are up there in quality along with those three. They might not be the best in some areas, but they can be a legitimate option in the segments now that should be considered.

I love that car. Recently drove it from Munich to Berlin and back for a weekend trip. It’s an amazing driving experience. I love a great sportscar that is light and has moderate power like the alpine. But for day to day living the luxury experience is the most enjoyable. I would take this over any other sedan. I even like the looks of it. It’s daring and got great presence. Driving on the autobahns left lane makes everyone give way as soon as they spot you in the rear mirror.

This is apt and relevant consumer buying advice!
But does it have a button for the button that unlatches the door?
The exterior of the 7 series is artless. The interior is chintzy as hell.
The 8 series Interior is the only remaining BMW model that doesn’t look like the cost accountant got to wear the strap on at the final product planning committee meeting.
I hope I will get to see IN THE SHOPPE section of the updated Tesla model 3 (so called “Highland”) from you guys. So many reviews just says it’s better than the out going one but barely any of them dive in to the same depth in engineering as you guys. Great video as always and keep them coming!!

As crazy as it sounds to say it, I'd take a Genesis G90 with its potential reliability, glitz, and glamor over any similar car in this price range. The mandatory check engine light in the BMW after only 3000 miles in your sample car is enough for me to steer clear of any German brand.
