The most hi-tech car I've ever driven!

- Meet the most luxurious, hi-tech cars BMW has ever released - the new BMW 7 Series & BMW i7! Mat’s flown over to America to get his hands on these two luxurious limos to give them a full-blown, proper in-depth review!
Let’s start with a look at the design. One thing’s for sure, from the back and the side, there’s no hiding that this is clearly a 7 Series. Sure there have been a few design upgrades over the previous generation, but the side and rear profile are quite clearly in the traditional 7 Series mold.
But of course, it’s up top where things get interesting, with an absolutely massive double kidney grille that dominates the front end. Combine this with the split headlight design on either side, and you've got yourself one car that will definitely turn heads!
Once you step inside, you are treated to a cabin absolutely full of high-quality materials, including leather & carbon on the dash, soft-touch felt on the roof, and super comfortable cashmere seats. You’ll also find the same swooping infotainment screen as in the new iX.
But of course, the main feature of this interior is the huge 31-inch 8K cinema screen in the back! This thing is absolutely insane, and when you combine it with the ability to fully recline the seats in the back, there’s no denying that this is pretty much the best bit of technology we’ve got our hands on in any car… EVER!
When it comes to performance, the range-topping BMW i7 60 comes with two electric motors to deliver 544hp and 745Nm of torque. It comes with a 102kWh battery pack that’s good for a claimed range of 388 miles. As for the BMW 7 Series, it comes with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that delivers an almost identical 544hp and 750Nm.
As for the price, the 7 Series starts at £102,000, while the i7 starts at £108,000. But are they both worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

I can't explain how much I hate manufacturers hiding every single option in the infotainment system instead of just having buttons for the most used things...It's just as distracting if not more distracting to fiddle with the infotainment system than it is to use your phone while driving...
Exactly having to click through 4 menus on my golf to turn off traction control is ridiculous.
That is what happens when you let 'designers' do everything and practicality gets completely lost. This is a huge issue in pretty much anything these days.. I've got Bosch oven designed by someone who has never stepped into a kitchen.
It's cheaper, that's why. But the cars still get more expensive.
But remember, you can't use your phone while driving. But totally okay if you want to go through 10 screens and enable recuperation mode.
Let alone all the bloody fingerprints on your plasticky screen
Great to have the big front to bring in lots of air to cool down the engine of the i7.
Yeah 😂
Makes sense on the petrol powered version
But I get what you mean 😂
U need to cool the batteries somehow.. Maybe thats the reason? 🤷🏻♂️
BEVs still produce a lot of heat , both batteries and the electric motor. Think how hot something like a phone can get and certainly laptops.
@@MNEAntonio there is no vents on the front grill and the batteries are in the floor
I'm probably part of the last generation of people that found buttons in cars so satisfying and easy to use. Now, you have to take go through like 5 different menus just to access one feature that would you would press a button for.
Thats actually good. It means how accessible the function is like how specific you want it to be
Buttons, dials, levers etc perform an important safety function. You instinctively learn where they are and don't need to take your attention away from the road. They also unambiguously do something and provide a positive response to that effect. While there are things that can be pushed into the infotainment system there are red line items that should never be - wipers, volume, aircon, indicators, headlights, full/dipped beam, cruise control and some other stuff. And neither should they be replaced with haptic style buttons. Unfortunately some manufacturers, especially Tesla don't know when to stop and their cars are actually dangerous from it - witness the Model 3 which relegates wiper speeds to the dashboard which has caused crashes, or the new Model S that has a ridiculous flight yoke style steering wheel. But even the likes of VW are using junk haptic controls and for the life of me I don't get it.
Just speak with it dude 💟
Well, looking at it logically, for some functions, physical buttons are superior. For instance, climate control… thos digital buttons are not tactile and are very distracting.
Well, in the past we would dream about high-tech stuff and now that it is here, we complain about it and want to go back to the old tech.
To be honest, I'd really keep my e34 over this one. I just enjoy having buttons and full control of everthing in it at all times. It's got heated seats, electrical mirrors and a manual key lock.
if it aint broke.... dont fix it.... complete agree with you about the manual buttons - much better than trawling through option screens.
C'mon be realistic :) I was saying the same thing when I had e39 10 years ago. But after few years I was able to afford g11m and it is or was really miles ahead of any older bmw.
Yea, but ur comparing a 3k car to a 120k car. I’d take this a million times over a old fossil

Seeing how far the 7 series has came makes me so happy to have owned an e38 7 series... there will never be another like it... simple, yet luxurious and over engineered in all the right places
Looks like a tank
A bit like they they got something with the scale wrong and build a car about 1.7 times larger than it was supposed to be. I mean it's as big as a van which would fit for 8 people and a lot of luggage - but it's just a limousine probably only used by one person all the time.
Yes, the e38 was peak 7 series and will never be overtaken in style and elegance. And quality either

It's great that all modern cars are being filled with electronics, screens, fancy interior lights, and suede headliners. It really justifies them being priced as much as a house.
Doesn’t justify that nasty looking exterior tho
Accounting for inflation, car prices have BARELY increased in the last few decades. So, with all the added safety features, comfort and technology, it's a pretty amazing deal.
Also, I wouldn't want the house that you can get for $108,000.
As a matter of fact, I just Googled it. In 1998, the 7 series cost about $71,000, which equates to $129,000 in today's money. This new gas 7 series is about 108,000 British pounds with options, which equates to $132,000 American. I was more right than I even realized.
I might think about buying one when someone starts a drive in sushi chain. 😆
Where do you live? Must be really nice to have houses this cheap available

Honestly i actually think it looks awesome. Im impressed.
The traffic light thing that Matt encountered was likely due to a power (mains) outage. In California when commercial power fails the traffic lights flash red on battery, turning the intersection into a 4 way stop. Technically it's still a 4 way stop even after the batteries run out.
Hilarious if he really thought that was a feature of some US traffic lights
@@secret222 I'm sure he was just joking. He has more common sense than most. I mean he gets paid to do a dream job. The only other profession this good is doing porn.
That's pretty interesting. (most) traffic lights here in mexico do this from 11pm to 5am so everything turns to a 4 way intersection. I said most because some lights on big intersections (like 6 different roads or stuff like that) or intersections that generally have a lot of transit stay working normally. I thought this was like a standard thing in most of the world
@@secret222 It is a feature though isn't it. In Europe they would flash yellow and fall back to whatever traffic rules are in place (probably yield signs).
Even a "4 way stop" is confusing for an European. In France, if the rule was that the first arrived can go first, most people would accelerate to be the first, and I am not sure it would end well !

Oh god - I am always changing the adaptive cruise distance setting as needed in traffic. If I'm in heavy traffic where I don't want people constantly cutting in, I change it to the nearest setting. If I'm in a 2-lane road I select a further distance. And depending on exterior conditions, I adjust from there as I deem rational for safe driving. Literally multiple times per drive.
