Interesting bit of trivia on the Ruger Blackhawk: The three screws on the video game model are actually accurate for ones manufactured before 1973. Before that it was very similar to a Colt SAA (but more robust and better springs). The most apparent change after 1973 was the addition of a transfer bar so that the gun could be safely loaded with 6 rounds.
I would very much like to see Jonathan Ferguson, the Keeper of Firearms and Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history, to react to the guns of RE5. It's unique among all the other RE titles in how it uses the actual names for its weapons (case in point, the MP5 is actually called the H&K MP5 instead of the LE5. Or how the Dragunov is named SVD Dragunov).
It's not unique, the older games like the PS1 Resident Evil, RE2 also used the real firearm names as well in the descriptions (original R3 might have also but I can't remember). Virtually all video games have moved away from doing this because it's not worth paying the licensing fee to use the real names and no one really wants to give gun manufacturers money.

12:00 So, Ruger does offer a .45 ACP conversion cylinder for their basic Blackhawk revolver in .45 Colt, and the 3-screw model is an older generation model. Actually not bad.
The only reason Claire Redfield is able to carry around that super heavy Minigun with ease on the train platform fighting against G-Birkin mutant bioweapon Stage 3 is because she is the sister of legendary Chris Redfield. Resident Evil is the only reason why I know any of these weapons. Also, it was really funny when he said that Jill is "smol" and that the Lightning Hawk is comically huge in game lol.
In the reload of the Quickdraw Army she does use her left index finger to cycle the ejector rod for every casing, and she's using her right thumb to turn the cylinder, not her index finger. It's all easier to see at 0.25x speed at 14:20.
I hope the Royal Armouries pay this man well and / or extra for this great series. Always great to hear your expertise and insight with, sometimes really unique , weapons and appearances. We love you Jonathan.
7:40 The MP5 in .380ACP is probably due to game play considerations. You find 380 ammunition in the game, intended for the MAC 11, which is indeed 380. So they gave you an MP5 that can shot that ammo. Also, they wanted for game play considerations the SMG ammo and pistol ammo to be not interchangable. So Pistol/Revolver=9mm - SMG =.380
18:01 when you snap it shut I don't hear anything. Did you guys remove the sound or is this weapon silent. Come to think of it. I don't hear any sounds when he handles any of the weapons.
There is a 5 round stub revolver that can chamber both 9mm and .357 rounds at the same time without modifications: the P&R M47 “Medusa”. I’m a little surprised that few gun experts, when reviewing RE weapons, seem to realise that such a revolver is not only possible but actually exists IRL.
For April 1st, we should get a video about edged weapons with Henry Yallop, the Keeper of Edged Weapons and Armour at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK.
I imagine the barrel of the rail cannon opening like that is part of the heat venting process. It doesn't make a big show of steam release, but that's the only thing I can think of to justify the motion in a logical sense. Beyond that, it's done because it makes the gun look techy and cool.

I'd love to see Johnathan review the weapons of Call of Duty Black Ops 3, Advanced Warfare, or Infinite Warfare. All are far future games with a mix of original and loosely inspired designs. Advanced Warfare also features the spanish Ameli machine gun.
Mr. Ferguson, if you think about the character of Clair the base SW M60 makes sense. In the US as I'm sure you know every state has a provision to issue concealed carry permits. (although some states are still fighting it) So Clair Redfield, being the sister of a Military Vet who is a current Police Officer in Racoon City would know how to shoot and Chris would have probably encouraged her to apply for her concealed carry permit. The SW M60 that you showed, and other SW J frame revolvers were popular for concealed carry during the time frame the games take place.
Quick correction. At 3:55 the "SLS 60" from the game is actually standing in for a S&W Model 38 (if nickel plated airweight), Model 49 (if nickel plated, steel framed), a Model 638 (if stainless alloy), or a Model 649 (if stainless steel). The Model 60 never had the humpback frame that the "Bodyguard" models did. That aside, I'm always happy to see more videos in this series with Johnathan and Dave!

While commenting on the oddly mild recoil of a shotgun in the RE7 video, he said "I guess Chris Redfield just... is a bit of a unit." I think he knows.
One of these days, I'm hoping to see Jonathan Ferguson, keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history, be shown videos of Girls Frontline with no explanation whatsoever.
Another great video! Jonathan did fudge one detail, however: when Jill unloads the "Army" revolver, she uses her thumb on the cylinder not her index finger. It is very clearly visible in the video, so I was confused by the obvious error.
Saw a little error in the description of the Desert Eagle clone @0:27 aswell: It references ".44 AE MAG" ammunition but this doesn't really exist... The gun comes in either .50 Action express or the older (primarly revolver caliber) regular .44 Magnum and .357 Magnum cartridges. *Edit* And it is weird that the the description for the snubnosed SLS60 refers to "9mm ammo" @4:56. Should be .38 special as Jonathan mentioned. And as Jonathan mentioned it is even weirder that the LE5 (MP5 clone) shoots 32 rounds of .380 ACP according to the text @6:05. Should really be regular 9x19 parabellum! And as Jonathan mentions it is also weird that the Quickdraw Army (Ruger Blackhawk/Single action clone) uses the .45 ACP pistol round. Probably wouldn't work well in a revolver.
The rounds aren't actually fired from the barrel of the guns, they're fired from the camera, this is likely why it seems like the tracers from the minigun are angling upward, in order to align with the actual trajectory of the bullets.
In the realm of deagle naming conventions I've only seen two games that have not followed the bird naming styles. That would be The last of Us multiplayer with the Enforcer-9 and Stalker with the Big Ben/Black Kite respectively. Alot of the names even don't go with bird-names directy but certainly reference them too. Like "Soldier of Fortune's" Silver Talon and a 007 game "The World is Not Enough" calling it the "Raptor Magnum"
If the single action revolver is modeled after the Ruger Blackhawk. It is very possible to have three screws. It could be a pre- transfer bar model. Later models have two screws.
I think you need to do an episode on Helldivers 2. I don't think as basically a comedy Starship Troopers game, they are that realistic, but I would specifically like to see what Jonathan has to say about the support weapons where one of you has the weapon and the other has the ammo and can make something of a sci-fi weapons team. Also I think he would like the fact that FF is always on and when you throw your current magazine out to put in a fresh one you don't magically retain the ammunition inside.
For the "Quickdraw Army" in Resident Evil 2 (2019) video game in Claire's B scenario, in which the silhouette is indeed the Ruger Super Blackhawk, is actually inspired by the Colt SAA or Colt Peacemaker as Jonathan Ferguson mentioned here. But rather than the caliber actually being a .44 magnum in reality, I believe Capcom was inferring the .45 Long Colt cartridge that is famously chambered for the Colt Single Action Army revolver, which is a counterpart to the Colt M1911 pistol's .45 ACP cartridge. (Leon uses a knock-off version in scenario B called the M19 pistol) But you know, ammunition commonality is vital to engineering video games software for simplicity reasons.
For the Quickdraw, that animation is *definitely* sped up, which I imagine is because it was actually a motion capture animation. Most games use motion capture nowadays for their high-fidelity animations, so taking a naturally slow to load weapon, capturing an animation of unloading and loading it, then speeding it up in post for balance does at least make sense.
Slight note; since the upgrade for Claire's snubnose revolver also includes a new cylinder and frame and all of the new parts are from differently textured metal, I *think* Capcom was trying to say that all of the important parts were replaced with some kind of super metal or whatever that would allow a .38 Special frame to handle .357 magnum loads. Again, I must emphasize the 'I *think*' part of that, it's definitely one of the goofier guns in the game imo.
I do appreciate how Jonathan comments that no, actually that might be a reasonable amount of recoil off the deagle given that our protagonist isn’t particularly muscular so it might make sense, only to have her also slinging around a school bus sized railgun twenty minutes later.
Those little burner flamethrowers are really good for pest control. They do a great job of getting rid of killer bees, hornets, locusts, and excessively dense clouds of mosquitos.
I broke the safety in my single action revolver in 45 LC by fanning the hammer. It had a safety gate that was only in place to strike the pin if the trigger was held. I don’t know if fanning it was the problem or if it would have broken anyway, but it broke completely off and now can no longer fire
I want that Jonatan Ferguson, Keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries museim in The UK wich houses a collection of thousands iconic weapons from throughout history breakdown the weapons in Helldivers 2
If I remember right, the weird 40mm grenades in the RE games are supposed to be made by Umbrella in case their BOWs broke out of their facilities, which, uh, happened a _few_ times.
20:28 Well, in all fairness, air soft guns is what companies like Capcom use as reference since in Japan you cannot access real guns whatsoever. Since the days of OG RE2 they had a partnership of some kind with Tokyo Marui (one of the oldest and most prestigious ASG manufacturers), and in fact most of the weapons featured in RE games were straight out of the latter's catalogue. I distinctively remember that the Colt M4A1 was the hot, new gun by Marui around the same time OG RE3 came out (cross-advertising?), and over the years they even started making ASGs styled after the weapons seen in "Biohazard", starting with the Samurai Edge.
17:52 that is the most pointless “rifling” I’ve ever seen in a game 😂 smoothbore would actually be more efficient here wouldn’t it? This would have gas escaping around it for no benefit of spinning when the “rifling” are just straight lines

But a Kite is a bird of prey....

If the single action revolver is modeled after the Ruger Blackhawk. It is very possible to have three screws. It could be a pre- transfer bar model. Later models have two screws.
Gronkowski actually held his own with the minigun decently well.
Was not expecting the "NOT A FLAMETHROWER" Propane torch to show up in a gun museum!!!
Yes, that thing is just a propane torch.
This is Johnathon Ferguson the Greatest Briton since Winston Churchill
Briton? Britannian? Britishian?
I'd love to see Jonathan react to Receiver 2, the attention to detail in that game is insane
would be cool to see an episode on helldivers 2, especially with the crew served weapon system the game has
Yay! I was hoping they’d cover more Resident Evil games.
For the Quickdraw, that animation is *definitely* sped up, which I imagine is because it was actually a motion capture animation. Most games use motion capture nowadays for their high-fidelity animations, so taking a naturally slow to load weapon, capturing an animation of unloading and loading it, then speeding it up in post for balance does at least make sense.
always love to see RE games being looked at by Johnathan. Pls do more like this
Slight note; since the upgrade for Claire's snubnose revolver also includes a new cylinder and frame and all of the new parts are from differently textured metal, I *think* Capcom was trying to say that all of the important parts were replaced with some kind of super metal or whatever that would allow a .38 Special frame to handle .357 magnum loads.
Again, I must emphasize the 'I *think*' part of that, it's definitely one of the goofier guns in the game imo.
Thought of a great desert eagle name: storm emu.
😂😂😂
I would love to see the absolute anguish and delight of him reacting to Bulletstorm
I do appreciate how Jonathan comments that no, actually that might be a reasonable amount of recoil off the deagle given that our protagonist isn’t particularly muscular so it might make sense, only to have her also slinging around a school bus sized railgun twenty minutes later.
I literally just played through again re3 yesterday and I was thinking about how I’d love to see an episode on these games
I'd like to think that Magnums are as iconic as they are partially thanks Resident Evil 😊
Would love to see the Alan Wake series covered just to see Jonathan react to Saga reloading a shotgun with a handful of shells!
Was never aware of those ingram smg having 2 version, nice bit
Jonathan should look at the guns of SAO Fatal Bullet and COD Advanced Warfare
Actually we see Alot of use in the US from small flamethrowers from farmers and ranchers who burn invasive plants and dead wood littering their land
Great vid as always. Would love to see into the radius or breachers vr
What is John's opinions on offshoot guns in games because of copyright problems?
If I remember right, the weird 40mm grenades in the RE games are supposed to be made by Umbrella in case their BOWs broke out of their facilities, which, uh, happened a _few_ times.
22:20 TM Revolution "Invoke" playing in the background.
19:47 she’s a redfield it’s in her bloodline.
once again asking for Jonathan to react to the rare and relativly conventional guns, from the wierd and unconventional world of Cruelty Squad
17:52 that is the most pointless “rifling” I’ve ever seen in a game 😂 smoothbore would actually be more efficient here wouldn’t it? This would have gas escaping around it for no benefit of spinning when the “rifling” are just straight lines
Honestly the only reason I’d visit the UK, is for this great museum
If so, then you might also enjoy a visit to the Vickers Machine Gun Research Association on one of their open days ;)
