I bought my Arteon R Line in November last year here in Australia, 4 Motion, 2.0turbo. I’ve since added RaceChip (a great product I’ve had on my old BMW 4 series). The car now has 335HP and huge torque, 0-60 sub 5 seconds. I love the interior space and massive boot, not to mention all of the gadgets and the looks. This car gets HUGE looks, I’ve come out to a car park at a hotel we were staying at and found about 12 people staring at it, ended up opening it up and letting everyone have a proper look. Make no mistake, it’s a fantastic car, drives well and has something for everyone. My previous vehicles were Audi, BMW and this car does it better.
Thats the way VW highline vehicles go. VW on the front but Audi stuff all through it. I think thats why my next VAG will be Audi...i mean im paying for audi parts might as well have audi status.
@@mrfreezey1 I looked seriously at the Stinger last year. I've owned two KIA Sorentos so I was disposed to like it. And I did. But sometimes very minor things make a big difference in a personal reaction. In my case it was the fake plastic vents on the side of the Stinger. I don't think I would ever get over looking at them and feeling they're simply cheap. It's a very personal reaction and I wouldn't criticize anyone who overlooks them but I just couldn't get over them.
@@chris809carhunters Not happenin'. VW will be happy to sell you an Audi if that's what you're looking for. And VW would be VERY unhappy to think you purchased an Arteon rather than an Audi.
I am an ex-owner of an vw arteon and I've got to say, for a volks it's decent. Sufficient power, ample of interior space and boot space. Extraordinary design (imo) and it's quite rare to see them on the roads but I've since traded in my arteon for the new Audi A7 and holy it's definitely an upgrade indeed. Between the two, the A7 will be my pick. (Do note my arteon was the R-Line with all the bells & whistles, here in Singapore.)
Honestly my 2010 CC R-line, which was my first car back in 2013 is still an amazing car. It's survived a track day, got a new engine for free through VW when an injector got stuck open, and is still going strong as ever for being ran hard every day at 111k miles. And is still one of the best looking and well equipped middle shelf sedans out there. Though I'm biased.
The Stinger is still the better buy. This car at that price stacks up to a GT1 Stinger AWD w/Remote Start comes in at $49k. That's a way more powerful motor and superior warranty. If you don't go AWD the Stinger is the same price and keeps its power advantage + warranty. The 4cyl models just out class it in fuel economy + warranty for less money (even when you go down to cheaper versions). Even if you're looking for a luxury FWD car the Lexus ES 350 (or Toyota Avalon) exists or heck the Kia Cadenza is a solid pick. I like how the VW looks, I like that digital dash but those two things aren't game changers. This car is just for someone who just really likes VW. I just don't see it as a compelling offer. Especially in its FWD form.
I'm with you there. Is a good looking car but I would still take the Stinger. And before you VW fanboys get your panties all in a twist, I was one of you. Among the ones I had there was a Passat W8 for fucksake! 🤣 but in my defense, at least it was one of the 432 6-speed manuals ever imported. As far as comparing a loaded Stinger GT2 all wheel drive at $52,000 to this at $47,000, nobody is paying sticker price for the Stinger and I doubt VW dealers will be discounting this any if at all. For the minuscule price difference it would ultimately be, I would get an all-wheel-drive Stinger GT2. Plus the Stinger is rear-wheel-drive so I have my choice of rear-wheel drive or a rear biased all-wheel drive. if I had a family that made rear seat room paramount, then yeah maybe for the extra couple of inches of rear seat legroom. So the small trade-offs in room and ultimately price, I'll take the bigger difference in performance with the Stinger. Not to mention Lap3 has been running their tune in a Stinger for over a year now with no issues. Merely with the tune and bolt ons, still with stock turbos and internals, they have boosted it from 365 horsepower at the crank, to over 500 at the wheels.
VW has 6yr/72k miles bumper to bumper warranty which beats Kia's 5yr/60k miles. Kia has 10yr/100k drivetrain warranty but that's not transferable so you'd have to keep your Kia for 10yrs to fully utilize it (no resale value).
@@zoranlovric9871 After my experiences with VW ownership as well as working in VW service, the VW will have no better resale value than anything else. Do some research on VW as of late. More problematic than ever. Look into how many people are very dissatisfied with their Atlas. A good friend has a CC that's been in multiple times for the back up camera alone.
Got my 2019 stinger gt2 awd with the nardo Grey color for 45k new from a local dealer. There going far under a sticker. Some gt base awd cars selling at 36k near me.....
I have the CC and i prefer most things about it over this.. personally i like the "dated interior" that everyone says.. but i also dont really like the digital cockpit either..
John Archer I love pretty much everything about the Arteon. I do think the design of the CC has aged well though. I have a 2013 and it looks like a newer car
I've always admired the CC but it had a very difficult time escaping the shadow of the Passat. It began with its name, the Passat CC, and even after the Passat moniker was dropped it retained a reputation of being nothing more than a upper trim Passat. Not fair perhaps but that was the perception in the marketplace. VW needed a somewhat more premium sedan that was clearly distinguishable in name and looks from the Passat.
No, it's not the Budget A7. The A7 is very sporty and the A8 is luxurious and the Arteon has parts of the sporty of the A7 and parts of the luxury of the A8

Hey. Great review. Love how you can just talk away without any "ums" or "likes". Very professional moderating. I'm getting the Arteon as a company car (here in Germany). Just ordered it a few weeks back and can't wait to get it. Your review makes me even more happier I decided to get the Arteon, as I also had a fully loaded A4 sedan as an alternate choice. Thanks for that! :)
I ask you again, Sofyan. Do you ever get to sleep? I ask because you whip out these review videos like rain drops. But you're by far the best in this business. You know too well how to keep us really entertained. Thank you so much!
I saw this in South Africa last year and wondered why we didn't have it in the US. I'm glad we finally have it now. The most beautiful VW sedan around so far.
Saw this car in white while driving home tonight. Its freakin sexy !!! I had to look for the Arteon on the back, and here I am on this video. This car is bloody beautifully elegant but cool looking. I dont mind having one
Who cares when it comes to the US? Every self-respecting car buyer (let alone enthusiast) has long read and watched dozens of reviews and knows everything about the car. Be at the global press launch or skip the review altogether, it's pointless to be this late to the party.
@@TheUrbanEpicure Then stick to those reviews. Not sure why you came on here when you yourself said it was "pointless" and that everything to know about the car is already out there. The man still took the time to make a video giving his perspective. At the very least you can "respect" that.
Didn't come here to watch it but to say just that. And yes, the man 'took the time' to 'give his perspective' because it's his sole source of income and his family will starve if he doesn't keep pumping out videos - even pointless ones like this one.
a3, a4/allroad, a5 coupe/cab/sportback, q3, passat, jetta, golf, alltrack and all Audi S models have real exhaust. The premium machines gave the exhaust outlets an axe because the clients spending $70,000-$110,000 on a luxury car complain about exhaust soot/vapors on their bumper. Can't win em all pal.
@@J-W.- I'm not speaking of S trim VW's, that is the lowest trim. I am speaking of performance S/RS model Audis. none of which have fake exhaust. Only the premium models do, such as the a6/7/8 (unless they are an S or RS model). This is due to wealthy *owners complaining about exhaust smoke on their bumpers*. I feel this issue is redundant. Either way, not all have fake exhaust, and none of the performance models do either. I spend all day driving and selling them.
@@ACURACALABAR11 Don't confuse the "S-Line Package" (interior and trim parts) with an actual S Series (S3/4/5/6/7/8) as they are not the same, S-Line is a trim package. I felt like I knew everything that needed to know about a car after watching its review BUT I didn't really like the video quality. Video quality has improved a lot since, along with the detail reviews. This channel has become my 2nd favorite car reviews channel. 2nd to Doug Dumero's... awesome vid
I expected to see atleast a 6-cylinder in this thing but I was more expecting to see an 8! But it's a 4 cylinder.. crazy. They should definitely have some engine choices, not like this chassis can't fit a bigger engine, the car is massive
Gorgeous vehicle, inside and out. I'm struck by the fact that the Arteon looks much sleeker in this review than in earlier videos and photos of the car. Of course there will be the usual complaints from internet fanboys who think every vehicle should have a five liter V8 under the hood but that ignores both what the Arteon is about and the fact that it's designed to conform to recent (much stricter) changes in EU emission requirements and the much more expensive fuel outside the US. Those who aren't familiar with the 2.0L turbo found in various forms in the GTI and the Golf R (and in even more variants in European VW's) would be surprised at its performance potential. Furthermore, VW is very protective of the engine choices and configurations of its Audi brand (much as Toyota is with Lexus vehicles) and they're unlikely to offer versions of the Arteon that threaten to cannibalize sales of Audi models. So a 3.0L turbo V6 isn't a likely option. VW has a very spotty record in terms of sales of its European spec vehicles. Americans in general are unwilling to pay the price Europeans routinely pay for VW products and it will be interesting to see how the Arteon fares. Sofyan is correct, I think, in categorizing the Arteon as a Grand Touring vehicle, a bit further along that dimension than the Stinger but with a similar mission. KIA, of course, offers the twin turbo V6 in the Stinger but the American market is far more important to KIA than it is to VW and KIA doesn't have to worry nearly as much about cannibalizing sales of a luxury brand closely associated with KIA. (The Genesis G70 is really quite different in terms of its appeal though it shares the Stinger's design and engineering under the sheet metal.)
*budget a5 you mean. this car doesnt come close to the a7 when it comes to ride quality, noise isolation, possible interiour configuration and overall tech. also its biggest engine is a 265hp 4 cylinder.. thats literaly the smallest starting engine you can get in an a7. so yeah its more like a budget a5, especially from a price point.
Kevin Grovenor yeah i get it.. just a clickbaity title to lure people in. its not even a real flagship like the pheaton. that was a real vw flagship. this car shares its complete platform with a vw passat. its interiour is 100% passat. this is a passat with other dampers and body kit..

Love the Arteon. It is beautiful and a great cc successor. I am concerned that badge snobbery will impact sales, so I expect discounts soon. That said, I would choose this over the A4/A5 any day. Thx for another excellent video, Sofyan.
Sofyan you stated that its the best looking sedan in *BOTH* VWs and Audis line-up. Sadly I think youre right, I used to love Audis design language from the mid-00s (Audi i-Robot car) until the early 2010's (1st generation Audi A7). Their designs were elegant, understated and yet highly luxurious and futuristic. The original Audi Q7 for example defined what a luxury crossover was and the entire market followed. Now their designs are trying too hard with giant pointy hexagon grilles and squinty headlights with fussy LED designs. I agree, the Arteon is the best for both brands.
@@MrOseetah The new Q7 literally took Cadillacs sharp and angular design language and stuck an Audi logo on it. Its literally a Cadillac without the tall vertical LEDs. I fucking cringe.
@@MrOseetah To be clear, the current Q7 is not a bad looking car at all...its just not an Audi looking car and it completely betrays Audis designs from the 2000s-early 2010s era.

good-looking car. The only problem I have is that, for a car of this level, the navigation screen could have been mounted a tad higher. Fluent, business-like, and professional review.
This car is based from the European Version Passat, around the time MQB first came out from 2014. So its is about 5 years old. We always get everything late.
Damn good looking car. Don't care if the stinger a lot faster I'd take this car. Way more handsome and less ricer. It'd be nice if this had a hardcore performance option, but nobody would buy an RS Audi lol.
The only things I'd change to make this a perfect car, is to improve the handling... Make it slightly more fun.. Then have the beautiful console angle and almost envelope the driver onto a cockpit style.. That would look incredible and futuristic. Either way, I'd get this beautiful car in the future.
I love the praise you give the interior. Over here in the UK, the motoring press were very unimpressed because it looks exactly the same as the (Admittedly far nicer than the US) version of the Passat we get over here.
Still holding on to hope that VW will bring the California to North America. How are they going to have a vehicle named "California" and not sell it in America?
@@89elmonsterPracticality of it. I do a lot of camping/travel. I own an older Vanagon and I think it looks like they did a good job with the California.

My friends grandparents still drive a 1991 Camry, and a 1991 Civic. Both those cars would probably still be on the road when almost all of these would be in the junk yard. Heck they may be still working just fine when most people have already moved onto flying cars.
And I'm sure both of those cars are fun to drive and are nice and stable at highway speeds -__- Let's not even talk about the looks and materials used.
At least a Toyota or Honda is less likely to visit a mechanic shop other than regular maintence. I see far more older Toyota and hondas than vws. The only vehicles I see more from the 80s and 90s other than Hondas and Toyotas are Chevy and GMC trucks.
The history of German vs Japanese cars say you're right. My thing is that Japanese cars don't drive and look as good as the Germans. I've had my share of Japanese cars and I don't keep them longer than 6 years, so why not drive something that puts a smile on your face?
As a VW Touareg and CC owner, I can tell you that both have been very reliable. Before we bought the touareg we had a 4 runner that went through brakes and tires like crazy. That was the main reason we got rid of it! Yes it was reliable, but no matter what we could barely get 20,000 miles out of a good set of tires! And I have a buddy who's tundra spent a lot more time in the shop than you'd guess a Toyota would. And once it turned 10 years old it would no longer pass inspection due to the frame rot! People can say all they want, but all car manufacturers have their issue's, look at the latest Honda crv turbo issues.
I woukd rather have a reliable Japanese car that would end up having very little issues and less stress than a German car that would most likely end up being an unreliable rubbish piece of junk and headaches after five years. There is a reason many people lease German vehicles. If you plan on getting a German car it is best to get one new and only have it for up to five years, because older than that and they are nothing but headaches. A Japanese car is a better experience if you are planning to get a used car older than five years old.

Gotta say; FANTASTIC REVIEW!!!! I've been waiting for your Arteon review for a long time. You hit all the major points, and compared it to the key competitors. I'd say you missed the LEXUS, but of course they aren't hatchbacks. The CC (in particular, the VR6 4-Motion) was phased out years ago because it was eating into Audi's sales. I wonder what this will do? I think it would CHOMP on Audi's sales, that's what. This looks BETTER than the A5 and A7 hatchback, and at half the cost of an A7? It's a no brainer. Give it an AEM air filter, 3" turbo inlet, and a chip tune, and it'll easily be up over 300+HP.

Ehh, I owned a VW CC for 5 years and it never had any problems. None. Also VW are doing that 6 year warranty as well now.
Thats the way VW highline vehicles go. VW on the front but Audi stuff all through it. I think thats why my next VAG will be Audi...i mean im paying for audi parts might as well have audi status.
I’ve been waiting for this one
Me too..shopping this with the stinger..but i think the stinger might be the 1..with all the horsepower..but love the design of the arteon
Michael M yeah i wish arteon had a 6 cylinder option with stinger horsepower levels
Agreed! This is a super nice car, but at this price, you have to be a VW lover to buy it. It's certainly not a great value.
@@zoranlovric9871
After my experiences with VW ownership as well as working in VW service, the VW will have no better resale value than anything else.
I was waiting for this review. I have a CC and this looks like a great replacement
Zach D keep the cc
I have a cc also and really exited to test drive this one as a possible replacement
I like outside of this Volkswagen
Leased a Passat 0 down and 269 a month can’t beat that
No, it's not the Budget A7.
The A7 is very sporty and the A8 is luxurious and the Arteon has parts of the sporty of the A7 and parts of the luxury of the A8
I’m so happy to see VW bring this stateside. Beautiful vehicle, and definitely on my list once the lease on my GTI is up!
I agree it's beautiful but I don't lease cars. I plan to be buried in my GTI. :)
Americans are missing out on VW. The Golf GTD and GTE
The Polo and Polo GTI
The T-Roc
The Touareg
The Amarok
Our Passat is also entirely different from yours and is a top Sedan here
That volume knob with the rotating power on/off switch that rotates WITH IT! Grinds my gears! I hate it when manufacturers do that!
VW has been grinding those gears for almost a decade 2010 gti
I only use the steering wheel volume controls so the power button is always straight

This Audi A7 looks great 👍 I’m glad they updated it ! Looks similar to the recently released Volkswagen Arteon
They need a turbo v6 detuned for mpg. The power boost would make this car a lot more interesting.
I ask you again, Sofyan. Do you ever get to sleep? I ask because you whip out these review videos like rain drops. But you're by far the best in this business. You know too well how to keep us really entertained. Thank you so much!
Ok, this is sick guys..
Man it looks so sleek! if there was an Audi symbol on there, you would confuse it with one honestly.
not really. the design languages are distinct.
The Arteon 4Motion will be the car a lot of aftermarket modders will want to get their hands on and drop in an APR chip and tune.
VW already pushed the boost up quite a bit, so it will be interesting to see whether APR can add a significant improvement.
Perfect car if you want a sporty driving experience, while giving you a luxury, and practical combo.
I saw this in South Africa last year and wondered why we didn't have it in the US. I'm glad we finally have it now. The most beautiful VW sedan around so far.
Manufacturers for VW: Boss, how much soft touch you want on the new car?
Boss: YES
Saw this car in white while driving home tonight. Its freakin sexy !!! I had to look for the Arteon on the back, and here I am on this video.
This car is bloody beautifully elegant but cool looking.
I dont mind having one
Sofyan always posts new cars long before others
I hope this is sarcasm. The global press launch was ages ago. This is not a new car.
If it’s just getting to America it’s new to US. It was released in Europe last year but nun have hit American roads until now
Who cares when it comes to the US?

Wait...so you are telling me there is a Volkswagen Audi product that has actual exhaust not fake exhaust that are filled in with plastic?
*Holy moly*
a3, a4/allroad, a5 coupe/cab/sportback, q3, passat, jetta, golf, alltrack and all Audi S models have real exhaust.
The premium machines gave the exhaust outlets an axe because the clients spending $70,000-$110,000 on a luxury car complain about exhaust soot/vapors on their bumper. Can't win em all pal.
@@jordanjoestar8839 saw a couple s variants and they all have fake exhaust.....so thats just being cheap
@@jordanjoestar8839 not true Alot of the S products have fake including the Jetta, golf have fakes to.
Audi actually fought the production of this car. But since VW is the parent company, well you’re driving it.
I really love this channel. What drawn me to this channel years ago was the detailed reviews of cars. I felt like I knew everything that needed to know about a car after watching its review BUT I didn't really like the video quality. Video quality has improved a lot since, along with the detail reviews. This channel has become my 2nd favorite car reviews channel. 2nd to Doug Dumero's... awesome vid
Finally a great looking VW. Good review as usual, I always enjoy your reviews, detailed and informative.
A very unique design, I like it. I wish they offered VR6 with DSG 4 Motions on this model !
Thanks for this awesome review
Same! I feel like they missed an opportunity to put their 6 cyl in here. I was wanting to buy it up to the point he said 4 cyl 2.0L
I expected to see atleast a 6-cylinder in this thing but I was more expecting to see an 8! But it's a 4 cylinder.. crazy. They should definitely have some engine choices, not like this chassis can't fit a bigger engine, the car is massive
LIT GOD a lot of smaller engines nowadays for fuel effeciency :(
Gorgeous vehicle, inside and out.
A first actual drive Review of the Arteon in America. Straight 👍

*budget a5 you mean. this car doesnt come close to the a7 when it comes to ride quality, noise isolation, possible interiour configuration and overall tech. also its biggest engine is a 265hp 4 cylinder.. thats literaly the smallest starting engine you can get in an a7. so yeah its more like a budget a5, especially from a price point.
this guy started shooting for the stars on that comment. its a flagship VW leave it at that.
Kevin Grovenor yeah i get it.. just a clickbaity title to lure people in. its not even a real flagship like the pheaton. that was a real vw flagship. this car shares its complete platform with a vw passat. its interiour is 100% passat. this is a passat with other dampers and body kit..
@@questionyourself718 its a weird balance game they have to play to still sell this car in their lineup.... making its own platform again and all that just doesnt make sense at the cost might as well get a legit luxury car.

This is comparable to accord 2.0 or Camry v6. Not a5 or a7. That's just stupid.

Could not agree more!! New Q7 is awful compared to the old one.
@@MrOseetah
The new Q7 literally took Cadillacs sharp and angular design language and stuck an Audi logo on it.
Its literally a Cadillac without the tall vertical LEDs.
I fucking cringe.
@@MrOseetah
To be clear, the current Q7 is not a bad looking car at all...its just not an Audi looking car and it completely betrays Audis designs from the 2000s-early 2010s era.
Love that exterior 😍 but that interior needs more tweaking 🤷🏽♂️

I love the look of this Arteon very nice
The only things I'd change to make this a perfect car, is to improve the handling... Make it slightly more fun.. Then have the beautiful console angle and almost envelope the driver onto a cockpit style.. That would look incredible and futuristic. Either way, I'd get this beautiful car in the future.
I love the praise you give the interior. Over here in the UK, the motoring press were very unimpressed because it looks exactly the same as the (Admittedly far nicer than the US) version of the Passat we get over here.
Still holding on to hope that VW will bring the California to North America. How are they going to have a vehicle named "California" and not sell it in America?

my wife loves the analog clock in our current Passat because she can see it as a passenger. Went to the dealer yesterday to test drive one and they did not have one to test. in here in No.VA. Not sure why they did away with the framed windows. makes me worry about wind noise. A very thorough review . you really know the product.thinking of trading my current 2017 Passat SeL Premium.
My friends grandparents still drive a 1991 Camry, and a 1991 Civic. Both those cars would probably still be on the road when almost all of these would be in the junk yard. Heck they may be still working just fine when most people have already moved onto flying cars.
And I'm sure both of those cars are fun to drive and are nice and stable at highway speeds -__-
Let's not even talk about the looks and materials used.
Come on man... don't knock the analogue clock, that's classy and cool.
Lexus pulls off the clock more effectively, but I'll give VW a pass for trying.
I like it, too. But the placement seems a bit odd to me.
