Good to know Standard Assault Rifles (AK-203) are in play, also Indian Army issued RFI for Sniper Rifles and Light Machine Guns. For now, all we need is Medium Machine gun replacement.. 7.62mm FN Mag 58 is a great Medium Machine Gun, but it is better for Indian Army to replace it with .338 Magnum Medium Machine Gun... like Sig 338. Yes, even there is an option to add accessories like Foldable Adjustable Buttstock (as seen in SSS Defence Ak upgrade kit) in the near future.. Overall this confusion of Buttstock is basically a nuisance..
I don't know why there is a discussion on foldable butt stock in the first place? On the other hand they are using it to hide what advantages the AK203 brings on the table?
I like the Army's decision of not waiting. They have waited way too long for a change and AK 203 purchase is definitely justifiable as it was thoroughly tested. On the other hand, there is not much information out there of SSS Defence made weapon systems
@@sushil.naturebeauty8878 buddy, Army is not a fool. There’s a reason why the Ak was chosen..its trusted and reliable and most widely used by Infantry soldiers. Its infantry soldiers nightmare if your weapon jams in mud, cold conditions or freezes after 10 years

Personally I feel the telescopic buttstock was better, because not all Indians are of the same height. Not to mention these guns will be issued to our female soldiers too. The body size variation could've been taken into account by adjusting the size of the telescopic buttstock. Personally, I feel we could've easily solved the issue by reverse engineering an AKM and doing the modifications ourselves. We sent a rocket to mars ffs!!! Modernizing an AK to our requirements is something that would've been easy for us.
AK 203 will obviously be a best assault cum infantry rifle for Indian Army with it's famous, robust & fail safe gas operated rotating bolt mechanism of AK 47. It is also incorporated some betterment over the former. Sturdy hinged top Cover with Picatiny rail for fitment of various sight is seen in this picture which was not in AK 47.Modified muzzle break combined with flash hyder is also seen here which may provide better firing accuracy. It is also hard that it's effective range is little more than present AK 47. Above all being the present user of AK47 there will be no logistical problem of supply of ammunition. Best selection for our soldiers for counter insurgency ops as well as standard Rifle. Great
The Ak 203 shown in russia had a matt look and it looked premium whereas the indian version has this glossy look which looks cheap. Are u sure they used different metallurgy in Ak 203 indian version?
Cost cutting is the reason. Indian army ak 203 has foldable buttstock and less attachment rails whereas Russian version has adjustable buttstock and more attachment rails. That's the difference.
I have different views, here they are First we need to identify the correct round that the army wants, right now if you see, we are using almost every round with the rifles we procure 1. AK 203 - 7.62 X 39mm 2. Tavor - 5.56 X 45 mm 3. Sig 716 - 7.62 X 51mm These rounds are not compatible, since AK-203 & SiG-716 will be used by frontier troops hence its complicated matter, what I might suggest is that the army first tests and decides what is going to be their battle round. 7.62X39 or 7.62X51 or 8X57 or 6.5grendel. The army should decide on basis of what is their target? What will be the engagement distance (400-800 metres)? the KE of the round, what would be its stopping power or ability to penetrate body armour. that will reflect on the weight/mass of the bullet & also the powder charge. 7.62X39 has good stopping power at 400metres, a bit countrolled automatic, 5.56 is smaller round, good KE, but does not have good stopping power at 400 metres, but good automatic control, thus allowing the shooter to put accurate fire, 7.62 X 51 has better KE and stopping power, but does not have accurate fire in automatic mode. So the Indian Armed forces should decide in what would be engagement distance & rules, then let the private companies come with their views based on the criteria given by armed forces. Lighter round can have good velocity, but less KE/stopping power as the bullet does not have bigger mass. So its best to determine which round the armed forces want to use, based on different criteria, then produce some test rounds that can then be distributed to various ammo manufacturers in india to produce the exact round. The reason is that the ammo that was made by OFB for INSAS even though it was 5.45 X 45mm, it was was too powerful than the 5.45 rounds made standard producers of 5.45 ammo. These standard rounds to be distributed to the various gun manufacturers to produce their version of the gun based on the gun criteria given by the SQR. else we shall have too many different rounds. As per me, new rifle with selected round given to the armed forces. 5.56 X 39 or 45mm guns should be given to Para military forces. police forces should be given the 9mm ASMI gun with semi automatic fire and safe options only.
Buttstock aside, barrels in ak family have overheating issues, which sadly hasn't been addressed even in AK12s. Well that said, modifications can be made, and I look forward to SSS Defence coming up with some.
They have been addressed already. On the other hand nobody shoots clip after clip in full auto without aiming so this has close to no usage in real life scenarios
@@mr.mastermind4840 How will soldiers get in and out of Infantry fighting vehicles like BMP2 and Kestrel quickly and easily if the rifles don't have foldable buttstock?
Lol it's not the problem of foldable butstock, if someone has addressed the issue in stock, it's about collapsible butstock not foldable, because even AK103 has foldable butstock and so the Indian AK203 also does, it only lacks collapsible stock. And as far as metallurgy is concerned, there's no difference between the AK103 and the AK203, the main difference between the 103 and 203 is that the barrel of the AK203 is pinned instead of pressed like in the previous AK varients thus increasing the accuracy slightly compared to previous AKs.
India have not opted for the top picatinny rail at 0 degree, which is used to mount optics, sights, range fingers, night vision etc. Also, India have not opted for the folding and adjustable buttstock, have shorter handguard that does not extend to the top, and no finger tab selector. The thing better in Indian AK-203 over AK-103 is the metallurgy. Obviously cost consideration was there, but in future if India procures selected number of AK-203 with these features, not much additional training will be required.
You are wrong. Indian AK203 has foldable butt stock similar to AK103. The stock looks similar to Insas/ slr/ old ak47, but its made of polymer and it can fold. Go watch videos of AK103 to get an idea about it.
One minor (major) difference between AK series (47 or 203) and American SIG Sauer rifles is that the barrel axis of the AK is slightly above the butt stock point that presses against the users shoulder.. whereas in SIG rifles the barrel axis is exactly in line with the butt stock point that presses against the users shoulder.. With this reference it can be derived that the recoil of AK will create a "moment" of force and after each shot the rifle will cock up.. but in SIG Rifles the recoil force will exactly act inline with the point where the butt stock presses against shoulder.. What effect does this have?
Instead of purchasing 203 in wholesale, actual troops should have option to choose one gun from 3 or 4 options, according to their hieght, weight liking & actual job.
