- Hey viewers, thanks for checking us out! Today we have a review of a couple 80 volt Atlas brand tools which we bought at the beginning of the spring. After a season of use, I wanted to give my unbiased, honest, unsponsored review of these tools. Overall I am fairly satisfied with them. Check it out and see if this line of tools would be suitable for you. Let us know if the review was helpful. More tractor stuff to come!
I just got the trimmer, blower, and edger. Just tried the trimmer...I didn't know my old tools were soooooo bad. Love it. Hope the others work as well.
Looks like you went in with both feet! The trimmer was so much better than the inexpensive gas ones I've had which were tempermental at best. That would result in the fence around our front yard getting overgrown when it wouldn't start. Now, I just pop the battery in and go. For the residential user, there is definitely room for battery powered yard tools. Hope you enjoy!
@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree I replaced my 20v trimmer and 40v blower. Never had an edger before. The power between 20v and 80v is astronomical. I would've gone through 3 batteries... and it didn't even go down a single bar! 😱
@@libbysmithstudio I'm thinking of going with their newer 5 amp/hr battery next time compared to the 2 5 amp/hr one that was available in early 2022.
@@tractorstrailsandlivingfreeI like the tremor but the clowns at Harbor freight.Can't even give me a replacement spring. They can't give me any specs either.So i'm trying to find out where in the world to get a spring to replace what I lost. Help please

Counterpoint: A battery that takes longer to charge gets you a ready-made excuse as to why you haven't finished the yard work yet. "Sorry honey, I have to drink this beer while I wait for the battery to recharge." Especially useful on hot days.
Also, IDK if power tool batteries and EV batteries work the same, but if they do the rapid charger might be taking cycles off of the life of your battery! Apparently it's better for an electric vehicle if you charge slowly at night rather than using the super-charger network all the time.
Good points. I hope it doesn't substantially affect the battery life, though I am considering picking up a second one when I can. I dont mind the work though. Some of the most relaxing times are during the mowing, trimming, and edging.

I went overkill and bought 7 batteries. It feels so nice have unlimited power with these tools. I would definitely not rely on 1 or even just 2 batteries.
Depends on how much work you have to do at one time but yeah I think you have it covered.

If anything, this will help save gas.. Big jobs, use the gas blower.. lighter stuff or smaller jobs, battery. Thats what im doing.. not giving up on the gas powered tools. But for small jobs where maybe it got a bit windy and the deck and deck furniture get leaves and junk on it.. I don’t want to mess with gassing up and fighting the pull starter for a 10 minute job. In the fall, when its a leaf apocalypse. then i would break out the gas powered one. I think both are good to have and have their place.

Just an FYI I use Alumaslck spray on the feeder to keep the feeder button free and loose, after every use when I clean the head I just spray it all over and let it set. Then next time I pull out the trimmer I might give it an extra shot of spray, shooting it into the holes where the lines come out. It makes a good dry lube...try it.

Thanks for a very thorough review! You covered a lot of details. I came here because I am researching the Atlas tools over all, but I plan to start with the mower, then I may add the weed trimmer later.
My main question is what you think of the battery system overall? I know you gave the charger a high rating and the battery was pretty good. Do you have experience with any other systems to compare these to? I'm confused by this one being 80v while others are 40v, and one I'm looking at is 56v. That's the E-Go brand. What realistice difference does the different voltages make?
E-Go's mower is a little more expensive, mostly because of the battery, which it seems holds more overall charge - 7.5 Ah at 56v vs 2.5 Ah at 80v for the Atlas. However, with the Atlas mower you can insert 2 batteries at once to extend your cutting time. What scares me is the E-Go replacement battery is $350! Vs $110 each for the Atlas. Also I believe the E-Go charger is around $150. Not sure if they are more expensive because they are better and last longer, or will wear out just as soon and be a lot more expensive to replace.
I have a little experience with the hart stuff. Since the atlas battery works for 40v and 80v, I am guessing that the terminals are such that the 80v tools draw in series and the 40v in parallel.
I dont have any experience with the Ego series but am interested in the idea of electric battery tools. One of the biggest hindrances to regular lawn maintenance us a gas powered tool that won't start when you need it to without wearing your arms out pulling the recoil starter.
As far as the battery life and replacement, we will see this eeasom. I am anxious to see how the battery and such will work after taking the winter off. Sometimes things work well as long as your using them but then have short lives after winter storage. In that case, you probably need to find the sweet spot between component costs and what you view as a quality product.
@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree Well luckily I'm in Texas where we really don't have a winter. I need to mow up leaves and such even in December and January, so don't need to worry about the batteries sitting idle for long.
warranty sucks - only 90 days on batteries

battery are only have warranty for 90 days. Greenworks bought from Costco has 8 years warranty. Even Worx and Ego offers 3 to 4 years warranty. I have many Atlas tools and 3 set of these batteries-they are cheaper but no good once they don't work and you can not fix or get them repaired
That's a good point. And the last time I was in HF, I was shocked to see that the price for the Atlas battery is now up to $219. Quite the increase from what I initially paid which I believe was $139 or less.
@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree that may have been the extreme performace version, they have 2 batteries. I got the extreme performance, and I have only used it once but it lasted me 3-4 hours with a chain saw cutting and moving branches and still had 2/4 bars left. I finished first, I was pretty impressed. The next half of the battery did not last as long though. but got me started on the next days job.

Soooo it’s been a couple years since your last review on the atlas products. How would rate them now after a year or so of use?

So a year into the Atlas trimmer and blower. How are they working now?
They're both working well as of the last time I used them. The battery charge seems to last as long as when they were new. They may turn out to be a decent line of tools.
I ordered a mower, and they are on back order. It's been three weeks & no word from harbor freight.
Wow! I haven't been in there in a while so I hadn't seen what kevel of stock they have nowadays.

Blower worked for a year , when you push n button it will work for only 5 seconds . Any ideas on what’s wrong?
My first question would be if you own any of the other tools they offer so you can verify the battery works normally.

Hi Irene.
From my experience, the battery doesn't make any noise, but the charger does since it has a cooling fan inside of it.
Have you found a way to edge without the grass and dirt kicking toward you ?
Hi Patty! The way I do it is I walk backwards with the trimmer head to my forward left. The string is rotating over the top and away from me. This puts the guard where it would need to be as the trimmer line is moving up from the ground. I find that this gives me the most control of the edge and protects me from most of the debris. I still wear safety glasses most of the time because while I don't get much debris flinging toward me, there is always a stray pebble or twig that you'll never see coming.

Witch way does the head goes clockwise or counterclockwise
If you are looking at it from the operating position, clockwise. If you are facing the bump button, counter-clockwise.

@@robertprims3198 ok, let's try this. If you're trimming and look down toward the trimming head, it will be rotating clockwise.
I know that I'm Wondering if the atlas head goes clockwise or counterclockwise and if you can make it go Either way
@@robertprims3198 as it comes off the shelf, the motor only rotates one direction. However, if the polarity for the motor was reversed it could go the opposite. But that could eventually spin the head off during use since the shaft is threaded the way it is.

Can you measure what the actual voltages are for the battery?

Sorry for the long wait. After fully charging the battery, it looks like I'm measuring 41.0 Vdc on each sids.

Have you figured out how to change the head on the Atlas 80v string trimmer?
I haven't tried on this trimmer. Are you asking because you have it figured out? I like the speed head that juggernaut uses but I don't know if it's compatible with this trimmer.
@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree No. I haven’t figured it out yet. I need to replace a worn out head and don’t know how to replace the old one with the new head.
I took a look at the manual and my trimmer today to try to see if I could answer your question. However, I have not tried this to verify and ATTEMOT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Disclaimer out of the way, it looks like if you squeeze the two tabs so the inside of the spool is exposed, you will see the end of the shift has threads on the sides and a flat-head slot on it. If you use a WIDE flat head screwdriver and try to spin the head bt hand (counter clockwise if your facing the bottom of the head) it should be able to spin off. There doesn't appear to anything else holding that head on.
NOTE, there appears to be a generous amount of blue thread locker on the threads so no promise that it will come off easy.

@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree I tried to hold the shaft still with a big sturdy screwdriver. It still wouldn’t come off. It feels like there’s a lock somewhere.
@@terry9568 I'm thinking the shaft is held stationary by putting the flathead in that slot, then turning the head as if it was the "nut" I will have to grab a wide flathead when I get the chance but I don't think I have it on me at the moment.
Worthless , battery doesn’t work after few months total loss, as I have 4 batteries and 3 are not working now. Warranty is only 90 days. Worthless now i can not use any of the tools. Ego and Greenworks offer 3-8 years warranty
Appreciate your input. Mine is still working well, but for the cost of those batteries I feel for ya.
