If they make All PS3 discs natively backward compatible I'd be happy
I reckon that PS3 BC will be made possible thanks to the Tempest 3D audio chip, it has CELL like architecture and could be used to mimic the SPUs which have been the main issue with emulating PS3 games since all Sony games on PS3 used them.
This rumor has been floating around for years without much traction at all. The only reason I’m more inclined to believe it now is the release of the new PS2 emulator.

Killzone 3 is better than any given game out today. If it was never released in 2011 and they released it today with improved graphics no one would bat an eye that a game like this was possible 13 years ago (because of the extremely low expectations gamers have today).
I used to think games like these were ahead of their time. They weren't. It's just that games today are behind their time.
Kz2 was better than 1 an 3 , damn i still go back play kz2 warzone sometimes even nowadays

One of the biggest and best changes in Killzone 3 was a 35% reduction in input lag. Fundamental game changer. KZ2 had incredible lag and weight. Killzone 3 kept most of the weight, but the input lag was significantly reduced for single player and multiplayer. The game felt so much tighter and smoother. Not only that, but they reduced the mp player count from Killzone2's 32 max to Killzone3's 24 max player count. Not only did that help improve the frame rate for KZ3, but also fixed the other huge problems for KZ2...Respawn points. In KZ2 you can literally hack and spawn camp and kill the other team for the whole match. 1 or 2 guys could ruin the whole mp, and that was for most of the maps in KZ2. KZ3 fixed this problem.
And then you have minor changes that makes a huge difference in gameplay, they actually gave the main Helghast Assuat Rifle a sight, secondary shotgun blast, and they made the rate of fire faster than ISA weapon which was the best weapon in the game in KZ2, and everyone just used that. In KZ3 the Helghast weapons were MUCH better improved. In KZ2 The Helghast felt like a shooting gallery. In Killzone 3 the enemy Al fought back more aggressively.
Then you have the brutal "Executions" melee combat. When Killzone 3 included it, it was simply amazing and a game changer! Also KZ3 had Mech Combat in multiplayer. And it had jetpacks. Even now there are not many games that have jetpacks, mechs and brutal first person combat.
Graphiclly even Killzone 3 had some of the best snow effects in a game. All around the graphics were better and had more variety. Killzone 2 did not have splitscreen gameplay. For the first time Killzone 3 finally brought in splitscreen gameplay for coop. You can play the whole game offline with a buddy on local coop.
I loved Killzone 2, but I don't know why anybody would think KZ2 is better than Killzone 3 other than nostalgia or they didn't even get to experience KZ3. The story was also more entertaining in KZ3 and gameplay wise not even a competition.
Killzone 1 needs a remake, that shit is janky and some level design choices are great while some are kinda bad especially the jungle levels. It could be a PS5 exclusive while KZ2 and KZ3 get remasters and ports to PC, keep PS players happy and PC

I'd love that too but they’re probably just gonna do ports and have people pay for them, otherwise you would’ve been using a ps2 sly cooper disc to get access to the ps5 version by now but you can’t

I would love a PS3 library install, my PS3 is a who’s who of arcade classics, HoD 2,3,4, Sega Rally, Daytona, Outrun Arcade, Afterburner Climax, DoA, Time Crisis, Ridge Racer. It would be great to play these on PS5 with modern controller support 🤔

The cool part about Daytona is you can play it through certain Yakuza games. Although, there it's called "Sega Racing Classic," and all of the Daytona references are removed.
If so, the original PS3 disc version of The Last of Us needs to be backwards compatible. We need three generations of TLOU on one system.

Infamous 1 & 2
Sly Cooper
Heavenly Sword
Kill zone 1-3
Resistance 1-3

No reason why all these generations 1 , 2 and 3 disks couldn't be running on on ps5 look at xbox and bluray players . I have over 350 ps4 physical games and around 230 ps2 games i want to play all my games on ps5
Xbox isn't "running" these games. It's time to stop calling what xbox does "backward compatibility." They are ports. Nothing more, nothing less. They just did us a solid by giving the games for "free" if you own the disc. Hence, why you need the internet for a one-time check to verify the disc and get the actual download to play the games
All said and done, it is about 25% of xbox total back catalog. Still missing a whopping 75% and Microsoft will not pay for thousands of games to be ported hence why the "backward compatibility" program is over
The fact the PS5 Blu Ray Drive can't read CD's rules out PS1 and some PS2 games....

Companies file patents for stuff that never makes it into a product all the time. While this makes it more credible than "a friend of a relative of a friend who works with someone close to Sony" kind of rumor, we should still have some skepticism for it.
I hope this is true and I really hope the do make a disc system next gen or I am out of the console gaming for good

I'd like to know if my PS3 digital library will come forward because I've been a PS+ subscriber for a very long time and redeemed so good stuff back in the day, same with PS Vita.

Would be a dream, sure. But Sony can't earn money with games you already own, so you have to buy all these remastered and ported games. In the other hand all PS4 games are playable on PS5 and some PS4 games including a free upgrade to the PS5 version. So, since 5 years I'm confused about Sony's true intentions and politics.

Every five generations of consoles the game companies should include those into the fifth generation consoles physically or digitally to boost sales meaning include all the games not just a few until a point can be reached with consoles that everything from era 1 to 100 and beyond can be played on consoles every 10 generations or more of a human life span. If they want to do remakes go for it but also keep the originals with options on the games to enhance quality or original.
If they do this, make games connectable that are in series.

The rumors aren't theirs to stop. People ran wild because of a patent getting filed and people making claims without proof. Patents don't mean there is going to be a product. If people get upset if this turns out to be nothing, it is their own fault. They upset themselves.

Every technical aspect of emulation on the PS5 is possible. The will of Sony matters in the end. The RPCS3 Emulator proofs that PS3 games are not bounded to the og PS3 hardware and its special programmed language.

I can understand but hope for ps2 and ps1 games but there is no reason we already can't play ps3 games mgs4 uses the same blu-ray discs. And i am sure they can add cd support through a patch. Gve the loyal fans and customers what they want.

Most 1st party games utilized the cell more. Third party games didn't which makes them easier overall to emulate.

Only a select few of games will be able to via emulation. Ps3 is still a sticky situation for it to be emulated, even the highest and powerful PCs can’t still run most ps3 games. How is a mid gen Ps5 able to run it?
I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being PlayStations way of remastering PS3 games and selling us a PS5 version. That and also probably PlayStation will paywall PS3 backwards compatibility on PS Plus Premium.

What would be a waste is to spend resources so that you can stick to your old resistance 3 disc and see no financial gain for the effort. That makes zero financial sense to them.

The emulator is accessible through jailbreak only. Fast forward to PS4, the PS2 emulator is once again locked behind the PS2 classics only accessible behind PS4 jail break.
Here we are on PS5 and once again playing PS2 and 3 is only available through paywall.
