Did not expect to see you here. How you doin Chris?
That is my exact experience with this game lol
Bruh this game was a bop. Used to play it a shit ton

I didn't know Frontlines: Fuel of War was the game made before Homefront. I wonder what lessons they took from the game and put into Homefront.
None of them, it’s safe to suspect.
They got the whole almost amazing but ultimately fine thing down. It sucks because they have so much more potential haven't had a near future battlefield on console either. But I'm still sour about not getting anymore great Dawn of War games to be honest
Well Frontline fuels of war was pretty heavily focused on multi-player, pretty sure they had some of the highest amounts of players in a map at a time for console games
Yeah. 60 players on their official servers.
Frontlines was really popular for a while but I personally never got to play much of the multiplayer because too many people lost interest so I literally couldn't play.
3:05 - Sadly, Jarek didn't say that Frontlines wants to be Battlefield because it was made by ex-Battlefield developers. Kaos Studios, previously was a Trauma studio who works on Desert Combat mod for BF1942. Later their team was invited by DICE, and together they work under the BF2, but then they were getting shot down and invited to THQ to form Kaos Studios.
Sounds like there’s a pattern in regards to this “team” because they always seem to be getting shut down just before being rescued by another company only to be in the same position as before!
"It sounds like God's bathroom after an unfortunate night at Taco Bell"
Poetry.
Fun fact: the BMT & bradley was invented as a way for infantry to battle amongst a world ridden with fallout. Doesnt mean they can take a nuclear blast, but certainly can travel through the radiation fine.
Edit: brain fart. I meant BMP.
Indeed. Same with tanks
*BMP
That is correct. It is called the NBC protection system which stands for Nuclear, Biological and Chemical protection system. Those systems started to be implemented aboard armored vehicles in the later half of the 1950s both in the Soviet Union and in the West. Additionally, the Soviets tested the distance from a nuclear blast from which the T-55 tank could realistically survive, they had determined that the tank hull can survive from a distance of 300m from the epicenter of a 15 Kt nuclear explosion, while the crew can survive from a distance of 700m or more. So what is being shown in the game isn't that far fetch, only the extremely fast drop in nuclear fallout is extremely unrealistic and the crew walking out with decontamination.
Dismount here, I really doubt the ability of my brad to do anything like that
@@MTLB85 lol yea I meant that
Kaos Studios was made up of the creators of the Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942, which was probably why they went with the Battlefield-inspired gameplay for Frontlines. Desert Combat was pretty huge and popular in the BF community back in the day.
Unholypkayground! EK
When it was free for gold members I was able to play multiplayer
I just played multi-player like a month ago on xbox. Maybe pc runs on dedicated servers?
@@Jman9488 it does lol, search FFOW Multiplayer Fix
Surprisingly, I still find full lobby in 2024 on 360
@@cdrick94wow now I want to try and find dedicated lobbies on pc lol
Wouldn’t it be a predecessor rather than a prequel? Isn’t the idea of a prequel that it follows a work, but acts as the story leading to the original work? A predecessor would be something that inspires or brings the next game in, like how a new hope came before empire strikes back, rather than the phantom menace being a prequel to empire strikes back.
I have no life Jesus
Think of it this way, in frontlines you take over Moscow so in retaliation China and North Korea form an alliance and not only push the US forces out of Moscow but also off the entire Europe/Asia continents however North Korea kept going.
It’s all good I feel like nobody has a life rn haha
JEBUS
That shotgun almost sounds like my momma smacking me when i was a kid.
I never asked for this.
I enjoyed it at the time on 360. Back then there wasn’t much else play for large open shooters besides battlefield 2 modern combat and this was better in some ways.
Me: Hes gonna talk about that nuked level where they make NBC systems in tanks a gameplay mechanic, right?
YEP.
I really enjoyed this game, especially the maps. That one city map that had all those like survivalist vehicles scattered about and that heavily armored bus you could roll around in was sick. Also that night map where the attackers had a bunch of helicopters was GOAT
DUDE I REMEMBER THAT MAP SO WELL. THE HELICOPTERS BROOOOO
The multiplayer of Frontlines was so good, this gave me so much nostalgia.
i play multiplayer every night and sometimes host all day and all night. download frontlines on xbox for 3 bucks and get back on
It wouldn't be a Jarek video without immediately hearing the Legendary OST in the background. Love it
Real shame you never got to experience the MP, it was like nothing else.
Oh yeah. The multiplayer of Frontlines was F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C
i agree, the multiplayer was a blast
Same thing with MAG
"Was like nothing else". It was like a budget version of Battle Field. It was literally just a Battlefield clone. It took the concept of another game and did it slightly-worse.
It's a shame more games don't make it so the MP can be played with computer controlled players, just to stop the MP from being completely unplayable one day. Yeah, they'll obviously be worse and more predictable than human players, but they're better than no players.
"It's a clone of X" curiosly only matters when the genre is current and populated; when a genre dies out, we really start to appreciate the clones. Example, there's a tactical FPS called "The Regiment" that I dismissed back in the day as a Rainbow Six knock-off.. but now I'm really glad it exists, because old school Rainbow Six is dead and I've played RS:3 to death.
I remember playing some kind of multiplayer demo way back in a destroyed city. There were these tall buildings with stairs on the outside (like apartment stairs) that you could climb. On one of the buildings you could do a glitch as a sniper to properly get on top of the building. I used to sit up there for entire matches sniping and it was so fun.
I had fun with the multiplayer in this, I'd get the rc car unlocked and defend cap zones with that alone, you could make players on foot and in vehicles panic with that thing lol
This was my multiplayer game on 360 back in the day. 50-player matches was so epic to me at the time.
Dude you just unlocked a memory with this video. Never played it but I remember seeing the box at several different stores and always wanting to play it.
13:10 is basically the arma 3 soundtrack
Jarek man, this channel has quickly become one of my favourites, straight to the point and top notch reviews and as ive said before keep up the great work dude💪💯
Red alliance between Russia and china: “not very realistic at all”
Didn’t age too well that part haha
Holy hell I never thought I’d see this game again, I remember playing it on the 360 like a decade ago or more. Jerick is a master at just uncovering bits from the past that we totally forgot
This game was extremely ahead of its time. Exquisite 👌
I still have this game, always one of my favorites.
Woah, I haven't heard this game from anyone in almost a decade
They have an entire timeline that explains what happened prior to you starting the game and then they have dossiers on the weapons, vehicles, armies, etc.
Wanted to hear your old thoughts about Spec Ops The Line pls
He plays fps games not third person shooters
He says he doesn't think he can do the game justice if he talked about it
dont know if you are interested in hrtf audio, but this game has some incredible 3d spacial sound.
I remember frontlines. I specifically remember loving the airstrikes. I remember one time at the giant satellite dish map i was on the rim of the satellite and spotted an enemy in the center, after unloading an entire magazine for zero hitmarkers i got pissed AND serious. I busted out the good ole airstrike, BOOM direct hit...but... No hit marker. No kill.
It was my own shadow cast down to the center of the dish
Frontline was my childhood game, spent too much time on that game while my friends are playing the 360 in the next room.
Probably the first game any of us played where a partial reload discarded the magazine without keeping it in your ammo pool. Always thought that and the RB button reload were pretty neat. I remember a heavy trigger on most weapons but you could bang off the pistol as fast as you wanted and could clear buildings with it. There was definite lag entering and exiting sprint. In a good way. Felt like a guy covered in combat gear trying to get into and out of stride while exhausted.
Biggest gripe was the ADS mode where you looked through the sight on top of the weapons but the tracers still came from low and right on the screen. You didn't move your head to the scope. The scope was just an overlay and zoom for your normal screen.
One of my FAVORITE games. I still go back to play it now and then.
7:10 Oh boy, It's quite realistic now, except maybe the Oil part.
I would love to play the multiplayer again. It was such a crazy experience back when the servers still worked. It will always have a special place in my heart.
so being in a tank like a M1A1 is a good idea, you are fine to mostly travel in a recently nukes area, but you should wear a HAZMAT suit as everything is has some radiation left. as long as you don't breath, touch, or ingest anything in the fallout zone you are fine. the reason to stay in the tank is:
1) prevent flash damage from the radiation
2) its a solid structure that is resistant to the forces of a nuclear blast and heat.
based on the distance of the tank its 50/50 to if the tank would get EMP and fail. however the tanks under the direct blast radius are dead in the water even if the crew survived. they might survive but have burns... from the metal in the tank.
Hell yes you're covering one of my favorite games ever! I remember this game so well. I used to play it comp with OG players and clans like MGK, Fuel, and others.
You can still play it lol, reply if you want me to show you
how about enemy territory quake wars?
does that thing have some kind of singleplayer?
Well yes, but, actually no. You get three or four Acts (Europe/Africa/South east Asia or North America/Europe/Africa/South east Asia, its been years since I played so I don't remember exactly), you play through each of the game's multi-player maps with a team of bots, and a voice on the radio explained how what you were doing would help drive off the Strogg. I remember the core game play loop being pretty fun though so their is that.
@@jasonscarborough94 much better than a campaign
2:50 Aaaah classic chokepoints on BF, never gets old
Thank you mr. Jarek sir!
For pointing me towards this game.
Its exactly the kinda shooter i want to play these days.
Cool video too.
I loved this game when I was a kid
Would love to see you do a video on the SOCOM series.. Those games were quite ahead of its time!
I bought the special collector's edition of this back in the day, it came with a deck of playing cards, unit patch and ammo tin CD case.
Played this on Onlive of all things
I remember this game it was my favorite as a kid. My only thing i can remeber from the multiplayer is getting stuck in the ground and people finding me and laughing. It was fun
I have this game and glad you covered it today
I loved this game back in the day was so damn fun i had no idea you could get this on PC.
Completely forgot this game existed. I remember I wanted this game when I was a kid.
Now do Shellshock Nam'67 and The Chronicles Of Riddick Assault On Dark Athena
Please do this jarek! Yes man 67 is not a fps but I enjoyed it. You did to blood trials last year.
Jarek’s a shooter kind of guy, what your asking would be going against what Jarek is especially the Riddick games given that they heavily relies on your capabilities with stealth mechanics or you will be torn to shreds.
@@cursedhawkins1305 not all the time
@@williamhunter8450 Then you must be playing a different version because I own both games from the series you suggested in regards to Riddick and both have a huge reliability to stealth mechanics hell one of the encounters I literally was stuck at because I didn't have enough health to even take on the Mech that was in the dang room in the first game.
Me and my friends spent so many nights playing this game. Great memories
I'd say the main reason that this game feels like Battlefield so much is because of the team's history. This team was originally Trauma Studios - who made Desert Combat for BF1942. The mod was really popular back in the day. They got hired by EA, stabbed in the back, and then reformed up as Kaos.
I had this game as a kid and loved every second of it.
Looks like this game was more prophetic than we thought lol
Can we all agree getting the Ironman achievement on Anvil is a pain on Hardcore
12:48 So basically giving the Aftermath level in Modern Warfare the middle finger?
Loved this when it came out - it was hard to find servers with players though after the first couple of months.
I remember the collection box which feature a T-shirt and a booklet with art.
O which when the game flopped in Sale you could find this collection box at most stores that sold games for 20 $ .. Heck the price did even drop down to 5 $ before the game finally disappeared from the game shelves.
I tested this game's multiplayer during its launch week, and its was quite good nothing groundbreaking and nothing that will last for years, but still a fun experience.
I actually loved this game, beat it time and time again, wish there was a remaster of it tbh
Dang this is the game I wanted most as a kid
I LOVED this game back in the day, both the single player and multiplayer. Awesome to see you covering it.
My dad got me this game at a gas station when I was a kid for the 360 and I played it so much. I still think it’s a pretty fun game.
You are my favorite because you said black and red is the optimal color scheme! A man of real taste :)
4:57 the moment i heard the word Stalker... thats... that's the feeling you cant describe with words.
I remember seeing this on shelves all the time but never trying it.
Holy shit I used to have this demo disc, I’ve been trying to remember this game for years
This game brings me waaaay back. I remember my dad buying me my first GPU around 2008, a Nvidia 9600GT and it came with this game. I played the hell out of it.
Hahaha, the "my tiny drone helicopter took out your helicopter" is a total BFBC2 moment.
A SECOND NUKE GOES OFF
I loved when games took themselves less seriously like that
I miss games like that... that's why I think Serious Sam is still one of the last FUN series out there
I am so happy that someone finally talked about this childhood classic of mine. I have asked so many times on so many channels to review this. I'm pretty sure I asked on this channel a ton of times. I do love comparing it though, to Homefront that is. Just how many things seemed to of gotten brought over into Homefront. Such as Drones and Homefront's love of Drones. A shame you weren't able to try this game MP. What matches I did play of it back in the day, I still look fondly on. But I think Homefront has servers back up. If not, then you can make your own server I believe. So if you ever thought of getting your stream to join you to make a video on this MP of Homefront, then I'd gladly watch a video just on that. Hell, I'd love to join you.
Might not be your type of game. But I am currently replaying it right now. But maybe do a video on Tom Clancy's Endwar? Has a similar type of story. In that, it's bare-bones. But also having depleted resources and WW3 starts. Except for this time it's set between Russia ( Spetznaz ) European Federation (Enforcer Corps) and then the good ol' US of A ( JSF ) All in a 3-way war, with Europe being the most technological of the 3, but being the weakest also. Having fast vehicles, but less damage and health. The USA is more of a Jack of all Trades. But I find it to work great. While Russia is literally Spetznaz. Not even kidding, an entire army consisting of Special Forces. They have the slowest vehicles, but man, they sure are beefy. Also, kind of unique as the rifleman will actually have female snipers in it. Just kind of cool.
So yeah, the world has gone to shit. In every battle you do, the person losing will gain a handicap or two. Such as WMDs. Not even kidding. Russia pretty much gets a nuke ( Thermobaric but funnier this way) Europe gets a giant space laser, while the US has Kinetic strikes. Just these giant Tungsten rods that fall from space and would probably do the most damage of them all. To win or lose, you need to capture uplinks. These can only be captured by Infantry like Rifleman that are great against other Infantry, but weak to vehicles or Engineers that can decently stand up against vehicles. Infantry can also be put into buildings. Making them annoyingly hard to kill for some reason.
Uplinks that be upgraded to give you three different forms of support. Airstrikes, Force Recon, and EMP's. Airstrikes is self-explanatory. Great for if you are getting overwhelmed and need help killing a vehicle. But can't rely soley on it as it takes away your Points that you need to call in more units. Force Recon is calling in AI reinforcements in one area. Tend to be lightly armored and more meant as a stepping stone then anything. EMP will disable any vehicles in the area. But Infantry can continue to operate as normal.
Vehicles come in 5 different varieties. We have the Command vehicle, the thing I find to be the less useful. Healthiest unit in the game sure, but has little attack power. But is meant to give you an advantage by letting you use a map you can command units from.
Artillery I had forgotten about how vital these can be in my current playthrough. These will annihilate enemy infantry and can be great against any vehicle. Have an amazing range. But is delegated to sitting in the back for all except Russia that requires it to be fairly close. But even tanks can be destroyed. Especially if you have two of these in a match.
Tanks are self-explanatory. Great armor and combat power. Good at taking out any ground vehicle. But is weak from the air.
Transports act as both an Infantry transport and also AA. Helicopters will get shredded by these. But struggle against ground targets, though can be good at the Anti-Infantry role.
Helicopters are great at killing all ground targets except Transports. Though they are probably weaker than they probably should be. By the time you might kill something, the AI will usually have retreated the unit or brought AA over. But can be great to use as spotters for your Artillery. Has an unintentional cooperation with Artillery as you can spot targets better from atop and just designate your targets that way. Harass the enemy before they reach your armor.
All units have an upgrade and Veterancy system. Each mission depending on how well you do, you'll be award credits, you use these to buy upgrades for your units. Upgrades will give some small visual changes, but also allow you to get extra health and shields. Increase mobility, and increase damage and accuracy. All units can get a special ability. Such as giving your artillery chemical rounds. Transports ATGMs and Rocket Pods. But, you are only able to utilize these upgrades if your unit is a high enough veterancy. You do this by killing enemies with the unit. One of the DLC's that came out actually gave more of the upgrades. Such as giving Tanks AA cannons.
While balancing isn't perfect. It is this kind of nice symbiosis everything has except for Command vehicles. The game is set in the Tom Clancy's universe and you get little cool tidbits. Like Rainbow team and so on. I am pretty sure this is a none-cannon world. I believe the game takes place around 2030.
Sorry, this is an FPS channel, I only cover FPS.
@@Jarekthegamingdragon Yeah, I figured. Oh well.
Been playing some of this today. Actually tried that chopper drone vs. regular helicopter trick👍.
Was this the game that tried to have a realistic sound system? Explosions close sounded way different from faraway explosions that had distortion and reverb added. That i think is the only reason why i remember this game.
Though in the tech demo/presentation thing it looked way better in memory.
I played this when I was 12 the nuke tank level made me never forget this game
That first shotgun blast Damm near blew me off of the toilet seat!
The multiplayer was very much like Battlefield. The maps were huge, many vehicles, though I don't recall there being separate roles the player could pick. Maybe that's just me and my shoddy memory. It was fun, met some fine fellows through it.
I played this game for hundreds of hours as a kid. So many good memories.
This game was really fun in multiplayer. 25v25 the maps were very detailed and you could really get to some sneaky places, as long as you were in bounds there would be very few invisible walls. Really bringin me back!
I loved this game when i played it. I might buy it again
this game always caught my eye at the store back in the day when i was little but always hesitated to buy it cuz i wasn't sure if it was a bad game or if was one of those online multiplayer games without bots as i didn't have the wifi adapter for the 360 at the time
best shotgun sound what i have ever heard in videogame :)
Funny how this is almost relevant today
Man, that Battlefield music always hits some nostalgia.
Cool new jarek video.
"Battlefield is doing fine" well that didn't age well...
Been playing bf3 recently too with a couple mates, good game but absolute chaos!
That shotgun sound hits so hard I think my ears are now bruised.
We’re about to experience the sequel to this game in real life unfortunately.
I remember me and my mate used to play private sessions on this map with a giant satellite towers on it. We used to race the RC cars and also one of us would use the double rotor chopper and chase after the other, using only the blades to kill them.
The drone helicopter reminds me of that drone in battlefield Bad company too where you can launch missiles I also use that to try to take down helicopters obviously with a low of success rate
Such a fun game when I played it.
Loved this game. Got to play the multiplayer only a handful of times, but man it was fun
2:31 nice flanking my dude!
My first game for the 360😭😭 played this for hrs, i might play it when I get home
That shotgun sound was beautiful.
This was the game that got me into large scale multiplayer and eventually into BF3 when it came out. I have a soft spot for Fuel of War
I remember playing this game just to 1v1 a guy in Jets while almost always every server was basically empty less than 10 players or so.
