@JarekTheGamingDragon could you review Call of Duty 2, the original one. Or Star Trek: Elite Force 1 or 2. All are great FPS games.
Can you post a copy of the game on my abandonware?
"They either ran out of time, didn't get paid a whole lot or just didn't care"
Or all of the above.
Or maybe they just extracted these clips from the movie…
@@brawler5760 Yeah cause it sounds like that they just took the audio from the movie
What's sad is the bullet-sponginess of the enemies was actually a thing in the movie too, and the way the characters got around it was literally spearing the end of their rifles past the aliens' armor-plating, _THEN_ firing so they could bypass the thick armor. I feel like that could be turned into its own sort of gameplay-mechanic; traditional ranged combat doesn't really work, so you've gotta figure out how to get close to an enemy and effectively melee-takedown them to conserve ammo.
But nope, movie tie-in game with probably a microscopic budget and even smaller dev-timeline, so we just got normal unresponsive bullet-sponge junk.
Well damn, that would of been fun going on a rampage, stabbing the enemies to the point they see it necessary to retreat.
The worst part is that I saw in some gameplay that you deal more damage with a headshot.
This dude was trying his hardest to hit the Landsharks at their heart, then he switched to the head. Night and day.
Yeah they also focused fire more so on the black area around the chest because that’s where most of the organs were located if I remember correctly (god what a meh movie but has some cool aliens)
Well they got one thing from the film right.
This seeder is actually conserving historic content, nice work mate!
The one guy seeding “people need to see this atrocity. Hell or high water, I’ll make sure some will”
@@MrRyruss ether that or this is somehow the first game the seeder ever played and is holding on for nostalgia sake
The hero we don't deserve, but the one we need.
Now we need that seeder's version on Internet Archive.
Even if its a bad game, it still deserves to exist
There is an urban legend of a mythical creature called the "FOV Dragon". Many believed he was Polish, but recent discoveries show the FOV Dragon is of Arabic origin. His two special traits are: An FPS fan and hating Call of Duty campaigns (and any spunkgargleweewees). The FOV Dragon's location is Portland, Oregon. Be aware. He will turn up to you if you ever disagree with his stance on FOV (unless you play on console, you can't change the FOV). He possesses something many games don't have: an FOV slider and/or an .ini file.
Btw good vid, mind doing Secret service next (It's made by the people who made Soldier of Fortune Payback and Chaser)
I love the word spunkgargleweewees. Thanks jarek for teaching me that word!!!
But you CAN change the FOV on console......😔
@@gjgaming2133 It's actually from Ben Yahtzee Croshaw
@@acewolfgang276 i didn't say he made it up. Im thanking him for teaching me it dude.
@@Duisburg051 not on most games lol
The best way I can describe FOV is like glasses, you can have prescriptions for different types of sightedness (near or far). If you are too close to the screen with low FOV it’s like putting your glasses and contacts on at the same time. If you have high FOV whilst far away it’s like you didn’t put your glasses or contacts on/in at all.
I hope this is a good analogy
Eh not really since with glasses its correcting a focus issue, not a field of view issue. A low FOV is like having tunnel-vision.
Talking about the reload animation, the devs either ignored or doesn't understand about reloads. When there is a round in the chamber, you just gotta take out the mag and insert a new one. NO NEED TO PULL THE CHARGING HANDLE OR YOU LOSE ONE ROUND. Many old games and even Mafia DE ignore this but as a FPS game they should know this.
That's if there's a bolt hold-open. You just push the bolt release and are good. Many AK's and G3-pattern rifles are examples of rifles without this feature, where you'd have to rack the charging handle.
I mean I find this more logical than just using a non empty reload for the empty reload. That’s a nit-pick of mine when it comes to BFBC2, why remove the chambering part?
That is totally true and the “””tacticool””” FPS games do add that as almost a trade off mechanic where if you reload a totally empty gun it takes longer with the cocking and also guns having that +1 bullet thing. But in terms of gameplay having the proper reload animation regarding the chamber isn’t really that big a deal when you just need a reload animation. Easier to make 1 animation for the general action than 2 for the sake of the extra detail.
Edit: longer not slower.
@@brickwall9781 yes but that is not the issue , If you have a round left in the chamber 99% of the cases, you dont need to cock the gun as it would just waste a round, except the mp5 and ump as there it's really hard to fit the mag back in with a round in the Chamber and cocking every time makes sense.
They only want to make one animation. Tons of games do this.
Might be worth sending this to the myabandonware team to help preserve this game because even bad games don't deserve to be lost forever, that one seeder was a real hero. But apart from that I played this back in the day and even watched the movie and they're not very good at all. The only thing I did like is the really weird and bizarre bio-mechanical alien designs, they're legitimately pretty good.
Worst case scenario future generations will have to play the PS3 port, which is on every PS3 game download site.
But I fully agree. A lot of old indie games in the early 2005 and up, gone forever because the old sites hosting them are gone for good.
@@varsityreviews707 It's good to hear it's preserved in some form at least, especially with how good PS3 emulation is now :)
@@InfernalMonsoon for sure. Plus modding it on a PS3 gives you some easy to earn trophies so win-win in a way
Oh definitely. Keep them safe and sound.
heh, the Russian version of the game can be downloaded from every second Russian-language tracker (and it is distributed by many people)
Definitely a really poor reminder of just how bad movie tie-in games were back in the day.
Honestly, the closest comparison I can see to this game is that 2012 Battleship game. Wonder if you’ll cover that one. XD
To be fair, the movie isn't much better.
@@seb24789 literally just "US Military Recruitment Ad: The Movie BUT THERE'S ALIENS". Same as the movie Battleship
@@Gameprojordan just missing some for the other branches of the US Arm Forces lol
Yes I would love him to cover Battleship 2012
@@seb24789 I really enjoyed the movie because of the small Infantry tactics and some of the lore is interesting. They also got the gear completely right but the USMC backed the movie up so that's to be expected
You have to play the licensed game from the 2012 Battleship movie. Strangely the console version is an FPS and it's just as bad and weird as this game.
Oboeclownshoes just covered both these games lulz
@@samholdsworth420 and there were people in the comment section who enjoyed that shit
@@whoelsebutmeofcoursei I liked it I'm just saying it's funny that how people can make similar content at the same time just by random
@@whoelsebutmeofcoursei When you’re raised on spunkgargleweewee’s you tend to look at them through rose tinted glasses…
One thing for the FOV problems. FOV can actually cause motion sickness to some people (including me). that's why being able to change FOV or at least have a reasonable 75-90 default FOV is crucial to some people. You may not care whether FOV matters or not but not all people are the same hence why FOV is always a thing. It's almost like Epilepsy where you mostly never see someone with the condition but you keep seeing the warning for epileptic seizures in videos, games, or even in some console boot up loading screens.
Regardless of how good this game and film are I do really love design of the aliens and there tech.
As Jarek said though, if the AI is not smart enough to be decent, no matter how interesting the enemies are design-wise, they’re not gonna be fun to fight. He said this in his Resistance Burning Skies review.
And their lore behind them, too.
Yeah, their design was deliciously grim and run-down. It was supposed to illustrate how this advanced species of Aquatic Aliens constructed vast ships and equipment have been run through the ringer after decades or potentially centuries in space looking for another habitable planet.
Perfect explanation on FOV from the FOV king. Never worried about FOV until I got my PC. Mainly a console gamer so never noticed it before.
the thing that pisses me off about this game is that it could've been amazing, think of the Battle: LA setting but with a vibe like Halo ODST and tactical freedom of a game like arma, it could've been great, but no, shitty thing with a $5 budget, whats even more perplexing is that the blu ray of battle la didn't even come with this game, it came with a demo for Resistance 3 (which is how i was introduced to that series)
I have that demo too! Came with a little manual with it for how to play Resistance 3. Honestly a really interesting part of gaming history: PS3 demos on Blu Ray discs
@@varsityreviews707 i cant remember what movie it was packaged with but one also had the killzone 3 demo which is also how i got into that series, ended up getting killzone 2 from my uncle, i miss cool promo deals like that, ended up getting the collectors edition of resistance 3 for my birthday that year, all because the cool alien war movie had an extra bonus on it
@@Sad_Elf damn that’s awesome! I’ll have to track down the Killzone demo movie thing for my collection, as well as the Resistance 3 collectors edition
Pretty sure Arma 3 has a Battle Los Angeles mod
@@KeyboardOperatorPride Ooo.
I wonder what the dev cycle for this was, my guess is this was a rush job where they only got 3-4 months. Saber's been getting a lot of attention thanks to their switch port of the Witcher 3, thankfully this and timeshift underselling didn't kill the studio.
I believe it was pushed to be released alongside the movie
They made a movie? I seem to only remember a long recruiting video for the suck.
Makes sense.
I always loved how your character models hands in first person don't match up with their actual model and look like they're ripped from Counter-Strike
It's short play time is even more insane when you realize that it's literally shorter than the actual movie it's based on.
A game that takes an hour to beat, what a gem
I REALLY don't understand why I got this game when I was a kid.
Will you cover Battleship the video game next? Also a bad video game tie in to a pretty good alien invasion movie (starring Rihanna 🥰😍)
The way I think of FOV is imagine your monitor is like a physical window that looks out into the gameworld. Like look at your bedroom window for instance. The closer you get, the more you can see out of it. FOV sliders are meant to mimic the effect of standing closer to the window.
Okay, great video, Jarek, but when are you going to play Battle Los Angeles??
This is a blast from the past. I was someone that played Battlefield and Call of Duty around 2011 and didn't really enjoy Battle: Los Angeles(only played the 360 trial and that was enough). I didn't even know it was delisted at some point lol.
Wait, there was a trial for this game? How long was it? 30 seconds?
@@TheDeadfast I don't think it was time limited, but I think it was limited to one level. XBLA titles usually have trial versions which are really just demos. Xbox Live Indie game trials were time limited, I know that for sure.
Great video, when are you going to review Battle: Los Angeles?
Glad you covered this game my friend and keep up the awesome content
I didn’t even know this Movie had a game
Man I remember pirating this game over my 120kb/s ADSL over night and expecting cod4 quality or at least home front. Instead I got this. Since I spent so long downloading it, I actually completed the game in all difficuties and unlocked everything in that gallery menu. I then proceeded to not watch anything in the gallery and deleted the game.
Alright. I will say. Ordered 4 INTO THE AM shirts. They arrived today. They are indeed soft, the graphics look amazing with color that pops. The material feels so nice and fits well but also breaths. I got larges and they are the perfect length/tightness to where they don't look too big or small. Will definitely be getting more.
$500 for this! What is wrong with these people.
10:25 reloading an AT4, nice lol
0:54 Now that's a smooth transition to a sponsor if I ever seen one.
Man ngl the Comic sans text got me lol
also Jarek u should try Beyond Enemy Lines next
Hey, Jerek, you should seriously check out the FPS arena shooter "CUBE 2: Sauerbraten." It's so fun and it's free and open source! No monetization bs. There are so many maps and game modes. It has an insane amount of content. Plus the crushing metal music in the game by Marc A. Pullen is absolutely legendary. I think you'll like it. One of my favorites. Please check it out! 🤘
Seconding this. It's got a really cool level editor too.
damn bruh I havent played Cube 2 in YEARS. Is it still active?
@@MidniteMeatBus Yes it is! Somewhat lol.
@@KristophM thats impressive but not that surprising at the same time, def a great game. My fav was that bolt action rifle esp in instagib mode
Thank you so much for introducing me to My Abandonware. I've been looking for a way to play Silent Hill 2 for so long, and I think I may have just found it.
I actually remember playing this and it was "cool" but nothing amazing. Def remember the bullet sponges. The biggest thing i remember is that staircase section you briefly showed. Idk why but i do and i ended up making that a map in halo reach back in the day. Crazy how expensive it is if they have the keys for it.
you should try E F P on stalker anomaly it takes inspiration from fc2 and eft it also has real horror in a shooter. (It has 2 TWO FOV sliders)
"It doesn't have a FOV Slider."
Oh, crap he said the thing! 😉
As small as the 5.56mm round is, firing it full send is indeed not like firing an Airsoft gun. There’s without doubt felt recoil and a substantial amount of spread. It also makes no sense that when you swap mags he doesn’t just hit the bolt release as any AR platform has a last round bolt hold open. There’s no need to pull the charging handle as you would be ejecting a round from the chamber out of your fresh magazine.
Bro where did you get the xenomorph shirt?
I can’t believe no one has asked you to do operation flashpoint dragon rising and red river yet
The film is a genuinely pretty good action film with quite a bit of lore fleshed out for the aliens. For this to be the closest to a follow up or sequel just hurts me, maybe one day we'll get another film.
We won't get a sequel because of people's attitude towards films that are "military ads." Nowadays every war movie has to be a comedy, based on real events (a lot of people are starting to dislike it because it might disprove some people's beliefs on a certain war), or a sob story.
I enjoyed the film mainly because of the infantry tactics. I think they did a good job at giving people an idea of how squad and fireteam tactics work. I also enjoyed, as you said, the aliens having a bit of fleshed out lore. If expanded, it could become more popular but looking at today's society, it's unlikely it ever will.
There's a lot more than the film just being "noisy, violent, ugly and stupid" but it's understandable as to why people think that. Not everyone understands what the movie is going for what an actual regular military operation looks like.
Yeah.
You're taking the piss right? This was the worst movie I've ever seen.
I will say the bit with the freeway and the walker does show SOME gameplay design as the path you take has two red cars while all other cars are brown on brown on brown on brown...
If you want a good tactical FPS, you could do Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising, the PC version also has a fun editor that lets you make your own battles.
Is it better than the ps3 Version?^^ cause this Version was soooo bad
@@lordsheldor Obviously
@@lordsheldor The PC version at least has a mission editor so you can make custom single player missions/download custom missions to use stuff like vehicles that the base-game's campaign underuses.
I remember being able to get all the achievements on this game in a short amount of time.
The subtitles are literally in comic sans
When I first wrote this comment I had not gotten to the part of the video where he mentions that
Your next 3 videos should be on the history channel fps games. Those being:
Civil War A Nation Divided
Battle for the Pacific
Civil War Secret Missions (this is a sequel to Civil War A Nation Divided)
My advice if you can’t find reliable copies of games, create a VM of your desktop. It creates a sandbox environment that is separate of your host (your PC). Saved me a few times from viruses.
Those cuts scenes look like cutscenes from a early 2000s flash game
yAAAHOO i GUESS IM IN FOR A FUN FUN TIME TODAY!!
Just got this game onto my external hdd(not much else to do so yes lets get mad n bored at a baaad game then)
Thanx for a great video
nah that’s the wildest opening to a video i’ve seen no context at all how we go from a game to a comic strip ??? why is dawg running like that what is going on in this game lol
Nice, do Battle LA next!
We should just rename the Spunkgargleweewee genre to “Ramirez/Imlay do Everything”
Yo that duty calls reference had me dying lol
11:11 "flank the walking gun" 😭🤣🤣☠️☠️
the usage of comic sans in the cutscenes really adds icing to the shitcake
Wait what game was Duty Calls an advertisement for?
Wow wait a min so if a game isnt for sale anymore it legal to download???
What would you rather play battleship the movie the game or battle los angles
completed this game like 5 times on different profiles... trophy hunting days. Ahh I miss them
I could be wrong, but i think a physical copy of this game was bundled with the movie dvd, I'm sure that's how i got my hands on it at the time
Shots hit me, and that really hurt.
In my opinion, it's okay to pirate a game that isn't being sold, the devs aren't getting the money anyway at this point nor are the publishers for that matter.
I remember back in the 360 days I was so hype for this game idk why…but when I booted it up and played it for 10 mins I definitely uninstalled 😭
7 43 sounds like something you'd hear from a person sitting in a tank
So when are you going to do a video on Battle: LA?
🤦♂️Dude the video is literally right in front of you don’t start jumping to conclusions.
You should play Operation Flashpoint: Red River I would love to see a review on it
holy shit extremezone as the one seeder and skidrow torrents take me back dude
Battle: Los Angeles is a bad video game. But I love the movie of Battle:Los Angeles.
I honestly enjoyed this at the time as a little budget title on PSN
This was one of those games that I really am glad demos were around for. I downloaded the demo on my Xbox 360 back after it came out and oh my God. The game was horrible. It ran way worse than what your PC is running it at and the worst part was it was so generic feeling that I honestly can only remember there was a pool in the demo mission that I played. And that was it. Like the demo mission was a full mission too so it wasn't like it was only a minute or two long.
I hear "flashpoint" from the game Legendary in the intro
holy hell that song S L A P S
9:40 Not gonna lie but it took a minute until I noticed you where shooting.
I'm guessing why games on MyAbandonware only goes up to 2010 is probably because PC games during the late-2000s to the last decade were now requiring Steam and to a lesser extent Games for Windows Live, which made PC games that didn't have these mandatory requirements alot rare and harder to come by. (2:15)
While on the subject of movie games you should check out the Starship Troopers game.
Check out the features of this game LMFAO :
battleofla.fandom.com/wiki/Battle:_Los_Angeles_(video_game)
I'm not certain it's a solution to this game fov itself, a lot of ancient games can be ran inside of a program called dxwin, which is a third party program that contains the game kinda like a VM or virtual machine. I had to use this for a game called Sid Meier's alpha centaurai. It forces support for modern resolutions and features like borderless windowed full screen.
Dgvoodoo2 is also a really good compatibility program for old games
The movie was actually pretty decent for a popcorn action movie.
Bro I thought the first part was him talking about a flash game about the same movie
Nice. I told Oboe he should play this if he wants to play another terrible game, and now you are as well. Very epic my friend.
It's impressive that you managed to talk about the game more the third of the game's length.
This dude is some kind of videogame masochist, like the AVGN but with less yelling.
The voice acting sounds like a bunch of people in a Discord VC dubbing over the game in real time.
wow, what a story about how you got the game XD, i'm still trying to play a couple of delisted games just to remember how bad they were , mainly call of juarez the cartel and shoot many robots, but no luck still
Call of Juarez The Cartel is so bland, that nothing would change in your life even if you played it. It’s such a nothing game that tries to be cooler than it is, it’s got ok concepts like the “trust” system but those are just used for collectibles.
I heard that Time Splitter music sneaky man.
TBH For that time when I was so desperate to play some new FPS game. This was a stress buster for me for whatever the small amount of time I had given to it for its completion.
This looks like it might be intended to be one of those arcade shooter games like the terminator one but they decided to port it to consoles and PC instead. That might explain the weird cutscenes and beyond horrible recoil mechanics
@JarekTheGamingDragon could you review Call of Duty 2, the original one. Or Star Trek: Elite Force 1 or 2. All are great FPS games.
People get sick from small fov!? How is that possible? Or was they not meant literally?
6:34 Why does that cutscene look like a hybrid of the boondocks and family guy, but worse?
I didn't even know they made a game!
DAT Time Splitters soundtrack! Oh thems the memories man...
That
"It's not worth your time"
Data hoarders: we don't do that here.
Back when OnLive was a thing, I played Battle: LA and beat it within the trial time (30 minutes) 💀
Jarek, you covered this POS now it’s time for you to cover “brink” lmao
“SHOTS HIT ME!”
Ah yes, Battle Los Angeles. The movie staring Aaron Eckhart (Two Face from The Dark Knight), Michelle Rodriguez (from Fast & Furious, Avatar and Machete) Michael Pena (That Luis guy from the Ant-Man movies), Neil Brown Jr. of The Walking Dead fame, Ramon Rodrigaz from The Wire and....Transformers 2, and other actors that are wasted in that film. This game's so bad they couldn't even get the actors to return...
Comic Sans in the news footage LOL
Music sounds like timesplitters haha
7:49
That is *not* Michelle Rodriquez.
How do you make a game to tie into a movie and then not actually use dialogue *from the movie* in it?
Jerek, I like to say I envy you playing these horrible FPS so that way in hopes future devolopers and whomever can see these and take notes.
I think horrible such and such like this should be reserved to be shown on what NOT to do.
