    BTG NEWS!
    Been a bit quiet on here lately... I'm off on holiday for two weeks until early September and I've pre-recorded everything for Patreon (Madonna, Mariah, Whitney, Lana). That is all recorded and I should be able to upload them all at the right times while I'm away.
    Here's what I will post between now and the end of August on Patreon:
    MARIAH CAREY
    Got To Be Real - with Patti Labelle
    MADONNA
    I'M BREATHLESS - Full Album Reaction,
    Angels With Dirty Faces (demo) + Supernatural
    WHITNEY HOUSTON
    Home / Ain’t No Way - Merv Griffin Show 1983,
    The Greatest Love of All in tribute to Muhammad Ali on his 50th birthday
    LANA DEL REY
    Pink Champagne / Let Me Love You Like A Woman (Ultraviolence Demo),
    HONEYMOON - Full Album Reaction
    I have nothing else recorded so if I can post anything to RUclips in the last two weeks of August, it will be songs taken from those above, or stuff out of the Patreon archive.
    If you're not into those 4 artists, you'll have to wait til September for anything different sorry. This is going to be a strictly Mariah / Madonna / Whitney / Lana zone! Stay subscribed and check out my playlists.
    I'll be back with more variety in September!
    Thanks,
    Jonny x

    Many of Whitney's live performances are mesmerizing because she always exceeded the recorded version of the song. She did different runs. She changed the phrasing a bit. Nevertheless, she admitted when the drug use began. And it started to affect her life. And she has said it affected the filming of Waiting to Exhale. This song is from that movie so she had become familiar with addiction by this time.

    This is actually my all time favorite Whitney live performance. It's precisely because of that raw emotion that comes pouring out of her. Most of the songs on the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack have a similar melancholy tone to them about relationships and breakups. And they are all excellent songs. This here is still prime Whitney in terms of voice. Her declining vocals become more apparent a few years after this.

    • @Bchavi
      @Bchavi 11 месяцев назад +3

      @5470dan, I couldn't agree with you more. All this talk of something missing or being "off" misses the mark. This is raw, pained, vulnerable and heartfelt Whitney - best of her live performances.

    This is a vocal masterclass. As I read the comments, I think her addiction has been well documented and spoken about. Not to over look it, but artists like Elvis who've also battled with addiction get to have a legacy based solely on music. Whitney deserves the same. Please check out Exhale (Shoop, Shoop) from Waiting to Exhale the recorded version.

    • @brynneholt1990

      Elvis’s legacy is NOT solely based on music (Whitney’s mother sang background for him BTW). Substance abuse changed his appearance and killed him just like it did Whitney and many others.

    • @adavis8605
      @adavis8605 11 месяцев назад +6

      @@brynneholt1990 respectfully, im not saying that his appearance and in general, life wasn't changed due to drug use. All im saying is that generally when talking about Elvis, his addiction is rarely mentioned or discussed and his fans get to just remember him for the music. I am aware that Cissy and her group the sweet inspirations sang with him for a few years. I just would like for Whitney to be able to have the same. Not shying away from the truth of the addiction, but it has been addressed to the point where it sometimes overshadows her musical brilliance.

      @@adavis8605Thank you. Most commentors especially when this video is being reacted to bring up her troubles. Why? This is about her amazing performance. How when she was about 3 years past her prime vocals and she delivered a vocally phenomenal performance. I love Whitney. From her early days as a model to the day she passed away and until the end of time. I don’t harp on her issues because she was human-just like Janis Joplin, just like Kurt Cobain, just like Elvis, just like so many other famous and non famous people it’s their private business and once it’s publicly shown it still doesn’t make it anyone else’s business. This is one of the best live performances from any artist. The runs, voice changes, the passion is unparalleled. She changed the song from the recorded version and made it so much better. Hands down one of my favorite performances of hers because of the emotion, soul, and her incredible tone. She also outdid the record vocally. She certainly had many flawless performances where her voice was in better shape, but I feel more rawness and soul when she is spontaneous instead of staying true to every ad lib from the record. By her later years, that improvisation becomes more of a crutch rather than an artistic choice because of her declining voice, but at around this time, it was more because of her emotion in the moment, which I absolutely love. I'd say my favorite Whitney years were the 1990-1996 even though her voice was technically at its best in the 80s.

    Whitney's live performances are sweaty, gritty and emotional. According to her mother she always hated lip sinking (for videos etc..) because she felt she was so bad at it. She has been working so much since 1992, nonstop, and I do mean nonstop. This. Ran all the way up to 97 through Cinderella. Then she made another new album my love is your love, so she never got any rest physically or vocally. I honestly would’ve needed drugs to get through it, and obviously she did too. The industry really took advantage of her from what I’ve determined. There was a lot of things going on with Barb at that point to in and out of jail, and the drug use was getting heavy at that point. I am sure that all of those things were very bothersome

    One of my favorite live performances of hers! It far, far outshines the recorded version IMO. Absolutely raw and brimming with emotion.
    Regarding her physical / emotional state at this time, the whole drug use situation has already been covered well enough (including by Whitney herself) and the troubles in her marriage were also becoming public knowlege at this time. However to add to that, she did also suffer a number of (at least 3) miscarriages, one of which was in 1996. I don't know the exact date of that Vs this performance but I agree she's visibly channeling an inner pain here and using it convey the song's meaning with conviction, and I can't help but wonder if that's (at least in part) what was causing her that inner pain and loss of joy/spark?
    Either way, she put her all into this performance and my god can't you just FEEL it! 🤩💔

    She was sweating a lot because of the drug ! She did’’t have this problem before. We had in France a singer who took drug and sweating a lot too on stage, The problem stopped when he met his last wife and stopped his addictions ... How nobody had a doubt about her problems ? Why nobody came to save her ? Finally, the artists are often alone in a crowd of people around them ....
