  • Interesting walk down one of the oldest street in Valletta known for a bakehouse, housing a number of bakeries, built during the Order of St John in Valletta, which no longer exist , On the way, we come across many bars restaurants, and a couple of churches, Not to mention the history oozing out of each and every wall !! There is even time for a snack and drink on the way !!

We have been on that tour tour train twice, it was fun; I remember those stairs up the top of Old Bakery Street, went to watch Malta 5D on the left, my mum walked the stairs with her mobility walker and I was pushing my daughter in her stroller on a hot day, it was a good story to talk about after wards but not at the time lol ;) another awesome video thank you

Been all around Valletta when we've visited, my dad went there in the 60s and said to go down by the front overlooking the bay because there's loads of bars there. There might have been loads in the 60s but there's not a single one left, ha. We also went to The Pub, Oliver Reed's memorial pub by the parliament, it's about 10sq metres, tiny.

  • @tazzatamania

Cisk was dear when we were there, dearer than Efes, Skol, Bavaria for instance. €2.95 for a small beer is rip off, we used to have lunch and a few beers on the front in Sliema and it was about €1.50 for a large Skol, 500ml.

Excellent video again Steve. Visited St Augustine's convent a couple of years back. Entrance was around the side or back because I remember leaving via the front. Cracking place to visit and there is a surprise underneath. Old tunnels used as a bomb shelter during WW2. In fact there are carvings into the stone wall created by people taking shelter with nothing else to do. Just a great place to visit .

Hey Steve. Another nice job. (btw, us ex-pats are sensitive about the proper street names). Old Bakery Street (not Baker Street) houses my paternal grandparents' family home (95 Old Bakery) and my mother's dressmaking shop right beside it on the right. Both have combined to house a new restaurant (Di Carafa). It was great to see these places which were very familiar to me as we visited our grandparents aunties and uncles every Sunday after church. You also showed on this video our favourite swimming place (Ill-Fossa, under the fort walls). It was like being back home so thank you for that. Thanks again.

Another fantastic video Steve 👏🏼 You definitely deserved that Cisk at the end! ☀️🥵🍺 I love Baker Street 😍 I spent a lovely afternoon mooching up and down here in June 2019 taking lots of photos of the buildings and wonderful architecture. I just love it! It’s like stepping back in history. I love to see the old shop fronts and imagine them back in the day. The guy at the pastizzi shop was nice and friendly and the pastizzi looked fresh and tasty 🥟😋 The Legligin wine bar that you were looking at is very popular. It serves fantastic Mediterranean food and is great for tapas and a nice glass of wine 🍷

Cant remember the street Steve but had a meal about 3 years ago and after the meal the Maltese waiter asked me if I would like to see the kitchen and ovens, so I said yes and they were cooking the meals in a wood fired oven that was over 100 years old, it was a fantastic experience and a great Maltese meal. The restaurant charging 30 pounds per person I think that it might be one of those restaurants with a full meal with a fixed price, made only with in season local ingredients. If so you'd get fed very well, there would be even dessert. If it is what I think it may be then reservations only.
All I care about is that the pastizzi are delicious, grease dripping like a leaky faucet is not something that I care about, that is interesting so Sphinx is not as greasy as Champs, even though they are owned by the same people. So there are two Sphinx in Valletta, one on 'Republic Street', and one on 'Old Bakery Street'.

That sort of thing sounds interesting, you are guaranteed to get the freshest ingredients, and you are supporting local farmers. Yet since each place like this varies some so it's best to ask questions.
in 2019 a member of my family pointed out one in Birgu that they actually tried and they enjoyed. I have no idea what price that one is. I am guessing about the same price. Maybe a little more.
