- Valletta (or Il-Belt) is the tiny capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta. The walled city was established in the 1500s on a peninsula by the Knights of St. John, a Roman Catholic order. It’s known for museums, palaces and grand churches. Baroque landmarks include St. John’s Co-Cathedral, whose opulent interior is home to the Caravaggio masterpiece "The Beheading of Saint John."

Watching from the USA. Great videos!
Awesome! Thank you!
Very Nice video my friend
Thanks welcome to my channel
Brilliant tour Steve, I could have watched a couple of hours if you ever felt like doing some parts each day and making up a couple of videos so we can see much more and not quite so tiring for you. It is all down to time available to you for filming. Thank you for all you do, I am sure so many of us really appreciate your hard work. Am I being a bit cheeky asking why and how did you get started on doing this? Not many people would want to bother, not many do anything these days without being paid. Thanks again.
Hi sheila...Been doing videos/photography on/off long time even in the UK , And really some times get pissed off with RUclips seem that they are working against you half the time . its a big corporation i guess don't really care for the little ones..Just love Malta and video and photos, and the feed back push me on to do more...just always short of time with work etc...but next year i retire and will be free to relax and do more ..But thank you for your support, love to see your comments xx
You covered a lot in this one but I found you moved to quick at times …still loved it
Was cool to take part in the premiere !!
Thank you my friend you are very welcome

Thanks thomas , might do a few more city walks what do you think ??
Great clip. Just watched it with my 83 yo mother. She went for a walk through the the sixties and her youth. Explaining the route home after work and buying breads at Wembley. Thx.
Wow.......Sounds great make my feel good to hear !! that's the reason i make videos like this , Wish you mom lots of love from Englishman........Whats her name , is she from Valletta ??
Englishman in Malta she is from Valletta use to live in East street.
Hi Steve, your videos just keep getting better and better. Valletta is such a beautiful city. This video alone with the ones that you did around Halloween are my current favourites. Keep them coming!
Hello my friend andrew , Wow compliments, keep them coming !!!! .....Yes more on the way, was thinking of doing a couple more city walks, The other capital cities Mdina and vittoriosa over the centuries
Very good video Steve, watched it three times all ready. I agree with you about the white status they are naff, some of them have been damaged, we stayed in an apartment near upper barakka gardens overlooking the three cities three weeks ago, brilliant views especially of the thunder and lightning every night, we stopped at the bus depot in Marsa to do some shopping in Lidl on the way from the airport, l don’t know how you locals can afford to eat here, the prices are at least three times more than our Lidl in Salisbury, despite the weird weather we had our best Malta holiday ever, thank you for showing us lots of new places to explore Steve.
Hi Keith Not sure about lidl..Don't go to that place but they say very cheap and really doing good business here in Malta Most think the best place !! most of the small shop are on there last legs ...Woe yes that sound like a great place to stay !! Had few problems with this video Seems like the Stabilizer is going in the camera, Was a bit shaky when i was walking, sorry about that !! Or i am just getting wobbly in my old age
Was like the video premiere. It 's can chat too. Think made come out good ...sure🙂. Be lucky take video before rains and storm right?. Waiting watch to see beautiful, fantastic, awesome of Valletta....🤗🤗🤗
The worth to wait good views. Thank u 😘
😘
😘

Thanks Steve , Well Done ! ....Keep Well .
Hello Ernest THANKS !!!

Thank you carl ..tour guide ?? lol..they could not afford me !! lol..seems popuail might do a few city walks ??
Hi Steve you missed out one of the most important places on Archbishop Street. THE PUB I seem to have spent a lot of time in there as well as café Prego on South Street.
Good tip! i Will try next time ...Was it opened ?? I am not a big drinker so would not notice
@@EnglishmaninMalta not sure if it was open as you skipped past it, I once had the rabbit at I think it was called Anastasia a couple of doors down, very expensive I thought and no longer there. I have been through the war rooms and did the tour of the NATO rooms on my last trip.
Nice 34th like
Thank you sugar your a star !!
that 'train' outside St. Johns Cathedral , i think would be better done in the style of the old rattler buses, shrine and all
Silly question, but how are the public restrooms in Valletta? To be avoided at all costs? Are they hard to find? (In Italy, you want to avoid!) I'll be there in a couple weeks. TIA. This video was really helpful.
Thanks once again Steve for the lovely adventures you take us on. I went to Malta on my honeymoon ,in 1989 and I absolutely loved it. This video of Valletta brought back many beautiful memories for me and my husband and we saw alot of new changes. Keep up your great work. Best wishes to you from Australia. Thanks again Marlene Digby.
Sounds great! Yes no worries more on the way
Don’t like the new buildings in Valletta
Did not there where any ??
Wonderful video, Steve. Thank you. Do you remember the Britannia restaurant down in the cellar just off Republic Square with Queen Victoria in front of the beautiful national Bibliotheca? I was in there a couple of times for lunch in the 1980s. The beef olives were great and they had good wines. And graceful old waiters with finely tuned manners. It was already getting abit shabby and run down, but the Art Deco furnishings and fittings were fantastic, redolent of the 1920s and 30s. Last time I was there (2018) it was occupied by"Tiger" ( Flying Tigers Copenhagen -an outfit set up by ex-military pilots after WWII to export cheap tat from Asia in old Dakotas and other surplus military transport planes). I think the grand building in Merchant Street you referred to as having once accommodated the much hated Napoleon during the French pillaging of Malta, is the Palazzo Parisio, which in the '80s was the General Post Office, with wonderfully helpful staff.
In the early 60s l went to the military hospital lived in patchivile loved Malta still go back
Sounds interesting ,
There’s a place on the way down to sliema ferry called da pippos where all the opera singers Hollywood stars eat best food on the island
Thank you for making this great video. I love Valletta its such a beautiful capital capital city. A very enjoyable video
Glad you enjoyed it bobby its a great city
Another interesting video, think ur wasted in Malta, u should be a tour guide as you good with Maltese language& you take us to places that we didn’t know existed, keep them videos coming.

@@EnglishmaninMalta You cannot retire, there will be a you tube revolt

Great video Steve. I love Valletta ❤️ Eddie's is great, always go in there to eat! 😊
The best!
Hi Steve trying to catch up with all your fantastic video's. Next time your in Valletta take a look at a building on the corner of St. John St and Merchant St. Look for the metal hook protruding out of the building, been there since the building of Valletta I know you like your research so I wont tell you its origins. Another favorite mine is the Devils Farm House in Mellieha.
Thanks for the tip! not heard of either ...lol 😂 good one tomorrow !! more tunnels in valletta
Something different, very strong guy and some nice trucks, really enjoyed it Steve thanks. 😯👍
Thanks 👍John ..Thank you mixed uo this is the valletta video Not the strongman video ..But thank you for both
I thought I had seen all the streets in Valletta!
Oh..There are many still I have not been down ...lol 😂
Love going to Valletta nice day out love it (Y)
Yes find it a really interesting place
🇲🇹 🏴
I'm so glad for these videos. So glad to finally be able to see my beautiful homeland.
What did you think tina too long ?? do you like this sort of video walking around ?
@@EnglishmaninMalta Hi Steve. I like the walking videos best, because I get to see more. It was not too long for me. Not at all.
those plaster statues are horrible, the bus area and the fountain area I actually like much better than what was there before. The new gate seems more simple than it was in 2017, did all the Valletta gates change a lot, to a very new style?
Did the Valletta open market ever go back to Valletta?
We always go eat at Eddie's Cafe, the outdoors seating.
There are actually two restaurants inside of Castille Hotel, the upstairs one is called 'De Robertis', the downstairs one is called 'La Cave'. I myself prefer 'La Cave', they have great pizza.
Never mind they changed 'La Cave' to a beer themed bar and renamed it "The Beer Cave", looks like they don't even have pizza anymore.
say no more about the ugly white things, think the whole layout was a simple clean idea, myself love the more historic look, but guess the idea is modern and old working together , eddies is great ..lovely breakfast the market has almost finished its now just inside the gate , near the opera house, don,t know much about that hotel think i have eaten once in 40 years upstairs ..lol
@@EnglishmaninMaltato me the white things were way too simple, that cow one very strange, the one near eddies cafe, is okay, not so annoying. Eddies used to have great Ftira sandwiches too, yet I am hearing that most Ftira bread is not so good anymore.
funny was talking to a friend about Ftira ...used to like make a burger from that bread ...but true it's not the same now
@@EnglishmaninMalta Crystal Place supposedly the Ftira sandwiches at Crystal Palace (tas-Serkin) in Rabat are still the same.
Also there is a bakery in Gozo that sells something that looks just like the real Ftira bread, most likely it is,, they don't make sandwiches, just sell the bread by it's self, it's called David's Bakery, the address is Triq il-Madonna tas, Sokkors, Kerċem, Malta.

Hi Steve I been away from malta for the last 64 years thank you you brought so many memories keep it up

Nice vid EMIM , you should have gone in The Pub for a CISK .
Maybe next time would have turn 40mon into a couple of hours video...lol
I do love this city
Yes the best in europe !! I find something new everytime I go
Amazing video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for lovely comments welcome to my channel
Hi Steve
Just watched this video of Valletta, very enjoyable, but did you know the actor Oliver Reed also loved Malta & Valletta & it was sadly where he died, in the pub along Archbishop Street where you passed, the pub is actually called "The Pub" & its full of memorabilia of Oliver & very British. You probably know all this but as you did not mention it i thought people ( especially the British & Oliver Reed fans) might be interested.
Keep safe & keep the videos coming
Bluesy Kev & Mary
Yes thank you for the info . Its hard to remember everything, theres a lot of history around valletta
Hi Steve. Valletta has everything going for it, it’s amazing 👍👏🏻🤩😍 you wouldn’t think that all this part was very heavily bombed, nearly flattened. I have some photos of what it looked like during WWII 😢 Thank you for sharing. Cheers
Yes Mary I have looked at many ...Like the old opera house ..and area massive devastation
Nice view 👍👍
Hello mark nice to see your comments xx
Absolutely fantastic creation Steve this is my 1st time to see this one i think? Such a beautiful city with lovely people great food and drink, and history oozing from everywhere you look, keep up the great work, as always great enjoyment....
Yes a must see ..stop and have a drink in the square, at festa time is so full there, and go around the back street for great views
I SET MY REMINDER
Hope to got time to watch ...Thanks for your support
Great video Steve x :-)
Hazel , was worried it would be too long ?
I liked it.....i felt like i was having a Sunday morning stroll right there x :-)
Great videos as always 😃👍🏻
Thanks for the visit
HOME ❤️❤️ !!
Beautiful home you are lucky
Thank you :)
Hi Steve great video, at this point I noticed that you have to pay to get into the church but it's free to go into the Library :) It amazes me at all the changes that have happened since my last visit many years ago. They have resorted so much and it looks so good, from the main entry to the Forts. Great Steve.
As you know i just scraped the surface of valletta in my video , but it shows you a little what's going on ?? yes i was surprised about the library ..but sorry to say was no filming inside, i tried a sneaky one but it did not come out good might do some more city walks seems people enjoyed them ?? st johns is worth paying for not just a church !!!
I have visited St Johns before and it is very nice but in those days it was still free to get in like God intended !!
Charlie Pace you can still get in for free if It's for praying , but they are on to you if you abuse that and start walking around or taking photos
Thanks Steve. Excellent video again. I was in Malta last April - loved every minute except it was too short a trip. I cannot wait to return as soon as I possibly can. Kind regards, Liam.
Thank you so much Lian , pleased you enjoyed the video as i said was worried it might be a bit long ..but seems people like it might go and do a walking tour around a few other places ..anywhere you would like to see ??
@@EnglishmaninMalta Thank you Steve. I really liked your recent live video from Marsacalla, unfortunately I was unable to join you live. Thats where we stayed. We got the 90/91/92 bus to Valletta about four times. My companions had been once before to Malta. They were my guides. Your videos give me confidence to sometime soon visit on my own. Cant wait!
Excellent video I felt I was almost there.
Its was a nice walk around ...great atmosphere
life before covid. thanks for the video, it´s like being there.
Couldn't agree more! Fingers crossed soon return
