wonderful Clare and thank you for these informative interviews. I only just returned to Australia from Valletta but would have loved to have visited Mysterium Fidei.

Christ was an average Jewish man. He would be horrified by the ostentatious grandiosity of monasteries, cathedrals, churches, vatican city; Priceless artwork, gold, silver, gems. Himself hung naked bleeding on a cross. A religious man would never expose himself disrespect others. God's Will is generosity for the poor, suffering, not self righteousness to endow oneself, take parishioners money, many who are poor, and spend lavishly. God's Will is simple spread hope, faith, joy, love. Somewhere, someone, got it twisted bastardized his words and intentions. That is unholy, selfish, sacri-religious.

Why are you assuming that works of mercy/charity weren't/aren't performed _in addition to_ the building of grand houses of worship & related buildings throughout the Church? Did Jesus Christ ever rebuke the opulence of the Jewish Temple's structure, built *according to His very specific commands* & with people's donations - gold, silver, bronze, acacia, jewelry, fine linen and choicest wood - in Exodus chapter 25 and beyond?
Or, did Jesus instead rebuke the Pharisees & others in authority, such as Matthew the tax collector, for abusing their positions to oppress the poor, financially and spiritually? It's clearly highlighted that less than 60 years ago, life inside this cloister was quite simple in most ways regardless of the building's structural grandeur. Did we watch the same video? Didn't the nuns' prayer for others, counsel to those in need & lodging for marginalized women spread "hope, faith, joy and love"? Even if there are examples of impropriety & self-righteousness among the clergy & religious, it is wrong to paint swathes of people with a broad brush in this context, as if you're well aware that the Church always and everywhere ignores or intentionally sidelines those in need for self-endowment. That is uncharitable and unholy, even if your opinion seems trendy.
"A religious man would *never* expose himself disrespect others" If you were trying to imply that a truly religious figure would absolutely never disrespect others, then that absolutism is false too. No man is inherently perfect and even along the path of holiness, devout people can still have shortcomings, sinful or otherwise.
