The Last Benedictine Nun in Mdina

- St Peter’s Monastery occupies a vast chunk of the entrance to Mdina, rising up two tall floors, spanning its two main streets, with countless rooms, once accommodating 60 nuns, long corridors and a garden in its heart.
But all this is now home to one single sister - the last surviving Benedictine in Mdina.

They pray so much for us but how many of us pray for them?
They are praying. So why should we pray
@@comradeleppi2000 Its that type of attitude that is a part of the problem. If you are a catholic your job is to pray ....you might not need to pray as much as religious do but to have a spiritually enriching life we need to pray. Our lord even commanded us to pray !!!

I'm entering into the Benedictine novitiate early next year. Pray for the church. The gates of hell will not prevail against it.
Amen, Sister.

Same here but I am a man.
No kidding! I could and not miss what the world has become. Will they take 64yr olds?
Perhaps there could be other Benedictine communities let alone convents that can lend a couple of maybe 5 nuns, Benedictine nuns, to accompany this poor elderly nun? to the Benedictine Prior-Secretary General, please grant her a company of at least 5 nuns to be with her.
Yep!
Some Poor Clare monasteries took in other elderly Poor Clare's in reduced numbers in the UK. The Liverpool Poor Clare's were taken in by the York Poor Clare's and now they are both gone.

Elsewhere in Europe where the traditional Mass, liturgy and traditional Benedictine life is lived there are religious vocations and new convents are being founded.
How does the "traditional" Benedictine life differ from post-Vatican II Benedictine life for nuns specifically?
@@isaiah3872 The traditional Latin mass.
@@francisheperi4180that has zero impact on vocations. Vat 2 was clear that Mass in the local language is preferred -the Will of the Holy Spirit. In my experience, Benedictines are not particularly conservative as they are free of the authority of local bishops and church politics.
@@paulwhitehead6709 The reforms destroyed the church athiesm was gonna lose followers either way but Vat2 made the destruction quicker
@paulwhitehead6709 You can bring as many arguments as you want for Vatican II. But if you check history, you can see that after Vatican II, the Catholic Church started to lose its influence and we started to have all these clown Mass, guitar blessings and other insanity.
God bless her. May Catholicism rise again, may it be what it once was...the glory and salvation of our ancestors.
The cause of this decline is Communion in the Hand leading to irreverence and ultimately loss of faith that the Eucharist is actually Jesus Himself: Body Blood Soul and Divinity. Since the Holy Eucharist is the source summit and the Very Foundation of our faith, how we treat Him directly affects our faith. Please understand, stand up for Jesus in the Eucharist, treat Him properly like He is God. Receive Him on the TONGUE at least if not kneeling and always go to confession that He may be received reverently and in a pure state of Grace. Please, in Jesus Name, I'm calling all Catholics to stand up for Jesus in the Eucharist. Fight for your faith in the Eucharist. Don't give up on Him who never gives up on you.
God is calling young ladies to him now. They are on their way to you, Mother, so not worry. As you say it’s in the hands of the Lord now.
Dear Sister in Christ - Over 24% of the population of Malta is over 60. They are in the Palm Sunday of their Holy Week. What better use than to open the monastery to bearing witness to the end of life care of thousands. You already have the beds and the kitchens, the quiet and contemplative silence. What better place for people to be born to eternal life!
They did like that some years before the civil war in Spain. Quite paradoxically, that policy led to the whole destruction of the convents and a complete loose of faith. The buildings have no faith, it is the persons living their faith who transmit it to the very walls.

This goes beyond sad! This monastery once housed 60 Sisters and now there is one. In this world where money talks, I’m sure the church is very interested in selling this beautiful place. For the nun, maybe younger Sisters will be sent but I doubt it. God bless you dear Sister.
Vatican II gradually destroyed them all.
"I’m sure the church is very interested in selling this beautiful place"
If they really wanted to do it, they would have done it a long time ago. don't make false accusations.
"Be still and know that I am God."
Keep this word safe in your heart Mother Maria, and not alone is all well, but all will be very well indeed. :)
Benedictine nuns from other monastery should replenish this monastery in Mdina....send younger nuns so that this place will trive again...🙏

The problem can be solved. Here in Africa religious life is Booming why can't Benedictine nuns come that side has missionary. They can fill it up
Europe already has too many Africans.
@@polemerosNo, if you Europe needs any Africans at all, it is the religious Catholic ones. And one should always remind himself that Europe brought this destruction of the faith upon herself.

It is sad that we are living in an age if irreligion. Still... the world seems to work just fine so hopefully it's all good.
As muslim i feel so bad for the nuns and priets, also monks, they are religious people who deserve better but..now almost no one Cared about God properly
Young sisters are on the way 🌹🌹🌹🌹
The community will live.
No, it will perish as the older members die off without the young willing to take their place. The increasing affiliation of ‘Agnostic’ and ‘Atheist’ in Pew research results every year proves that more people are walking away from religion, so the odds of people willing to take over these roles will invariably dwindle. Add onto that the scandal-plagued Catholic Church, and the odds of newcomers joining that belief system takes another hit.
It’s the way of the world. Other religions are in decline as well, so it stands to reason that Catholicism isn’t immune to extinction. There have been religious groups that have died off in human history as their adherents died. This appears to be a real concern for that community with none joining her. The poor lady… I feel sorry for her.
The Lord is with you and will never leave you. Father will open up a new door.
Holy Spirit please send help to her. I trust you will have the answer.
My mother told me that her father was a tile layer in Malta and he had work in a convent , inwhich the sister never went out in public and were never seen. They were truly commited to gods work. im not sure if this i still practice.
She should do tours of the place. Who knows, maybe if enough people go to visit, some will feel a calling to stay there, and take on the vocation.
Beautiful. O Dearest Lord, we deserve all this punishment and worse, but here we lie in humilliation before Thee, please rescue Thy Bride from the claws of the evil and send us a brave, truly Catholic pope, Amen. If not for us, Our Lord, we're sinners and we're filth, but for Thy Bride, Our Church, which we love more than ourselves and would happily die for a thousand times over. There's nothing worse than seeing our pure Church Thy Bride hijacked by powers of hellfire. Our Lady Mary Immaculate, we love Thee and honor Thee, the Dearest and Purest of all Mothers, pray for us and help sweet Mother Maria Adeodata and assist her in all her needs especially her crown of glory that is her salvation, Amen. Our Lord and Our Lady, we love Thee and honor Thee, rescue us by rescuing our Church.

¿Cómo es posible que dejen ahí abandonada a esta pobre mujer? Después de que ha dedicado toda su vida a la iglesia, a su órden y a sus hermanas lo menos que podrían hacer es trasladarla a un convento donde esté cuidada.

The Nun Mdina gets a tree fruit bearing plants of various types at door step and the Mother plants those trees and also waters those plants and then the Mother feels when the cool breeze swipes through those plants that something is there more in life.
The Mother takes her phone and checks those plants and then scans the live photo and then gets to know about those fruits.
Then steps out in a attire of comfort and value for cloth and bun braid and goes to the Market and purchases similar fruits and while going to Market with basket notices many children playing rejoicing and near river side.
Watches their smiles and the heads to the Market and then purchases similar fruits and then while coming back those children are not there and so decides to bake something delicious.
And after entering it is same disciplined attrire and then bakes and shows it to the LORD. And the Son of Lord tastes it through the same breeze but the Mother is unaware and then is guided to step out in the previous attrire and then looks around for those children.
Then finds the little girl first near a tree of massive strength and green fields and then gives the bake to the little girl. And then finds another path leading to group of homes and heads towards it.
There the path on either side is having green fields and then encounters a little shepherd and provides the second bake and then gets closer to the group of homes and then finds a happy boy thinking something funny and laughing and gives the third piece of bake to happy boy. Happy boy became happier.
Then enters inside
We have to live for God again. That's how people used to live. And many priests, monks, and nuns came out of that society. Nowadays of course they're struggling because our society focuses on everything except God.
Pray the Holy Rosary everyday, go to confession and to Holy Mass. Dear God please send us many holy vocations to the priesthood, the religious life and to the holy Sacrament of Matrimony. Speculum Iustitiæ ora pro nobis. Amén 🙏✝️🕊️👑
I think that the way to deal with these issues is to send nuns from other convents to other places that are short of people, Mexico is the second most religious country and they seem to get new nuns and I think that could also help especially with brazil being the largest catholic country and who has young nuns too. I think its not a total resolution but it would certainly help in keeping up the nunneries and it also gives the nuns a chance to experience life abroad. But that is just my thought. Perhaps the vatican should consider a program where they can send voluntary nuns to other monasteries or convents to experience life there.
I tried to join- they said I was too old 😂
Made me wonder…

Then enters further inside the thought processing boy looks at the hut and various ways to cover the damaged roof and then keeps thinking and then comes with bake that is in a basket and that boy looks at the basket while the bake piece is given and then thought process is wants complete basket and then takes the bake that is given and then leaves in dilemma not able to know the response for that thought process oriented towards money.

Here is why “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
I think this calls for reform, the times today are different from past eras.
For anyone even remotely familiar with the history of the Catholic Church, it’s strange to hear one of its representatives condemn others for being obsessed with “money, money, money.”
Like most bureaucratic institutions there are always the workers manning the "trenches" and then there is corporate counting the beans and calling the shots.

What if it is the vocation that should change to meet the modern times? Maybe doing the same thing for a thousand years is not how to keep something alive. Maybe the church should rethink monasticism in a way that appeals to more young people if it is not to die out completely.
You are mistaken. All the orders who have rethought monasticism are dying. The ones who stayed to the old traditional ways are the ones attracting young people.
@@polemeros Hello, I agree with you, could you give some examples of dying orders that rethought monasticism and orders that stayed traditional?
@@joseloera5849 Virtually every order modernized and virtually every one of them is only half the size that it was in 1965, aging fast and with tiny numbers of new members. The most conservative of the US Dominicans, the eastern states province, is full of young friars. we went from 150k nun to 30k from Vatican II til the present, Vatican II is poison that is killing the church
its amazing that in such a devoutly Roman Catholic country that she does not have in the least 5-10 vocations, in fact I am amazed that any monastery in Malta would be having vocation issues. Every day in my rosary One of the requests I always Ask our lady o bring to god is that he send good new and dedicated vocations to religious communities and seminaries ess in places were there numbers dwindle and are needed most. Prayer can be a powerful thing and can effect the world you live in and even mental state . As Roman Catholic Christans a important part of our lives and faith is to pray. Naturally we can not pray as much as Nuns and Monks do being most of us have many obligations in life but the lord gives us a few min a day tp pray for goodness sakes it takes only 15-20 min to pray the rosary once you get the hang of it !!! So pray !
Remember that she's a nun, not a religious sister. Aside from the fact that religious life is a vocation/calling, nuns aren't usually involved (at least not directly) in ministries beyond the convent premises, so their state of life is even less appealing to your average woman than the active life of religious sisters (these are the ones we see more often in everyday life, working "in the world"), in an era when there are many more options for women to serve in civil society as independent lay women. Still, I pray that the Holy Spirit revives monasticism throughout the whole Church. I'm sure the Lors is calling some people to this vocation, they just aren't hearing Him yet
