With a voice like that. You’d think she’d have a huge ego. But her humility and humbleness makes me love her as an artist even more. Her speaking voice is just as magical as her singing voice. She is definitely in my top 5 vocalists of ALL time!!

I saw her sing Gimme Shelter at the Stones concert. I was floored....her voice live is jaw dropping GREAT. She got the biggest ovation among the 60,000 concert goers.
I'll never forget her. She came into a restaurant I was working at as a waitress in the 80's in L.A., and I had been crying because I had been being abused by the management. Despite the fact she was with a man who was madly in love with her, she turned all her focus on me, telling me I was beautiful, amazing, and showering me with love and attention. She turned everything around for me, and although I had no idea who she was, I swore I would never forget her face or her warm and caring voice... and then I saw it and heard it again, on 20 feet from stardom. It is no coincidence that such a soulful and stellar talent is partnered by a great soul. She came to my rescue, and this music does too. Thank you, Lisa Fischer. Thank you, Caroline, for giving tribute to this divine woman.

Wonderful, thank you Caroline! We rarely get to tell those angels that point us in the right direction thanks- also would like to add that it gave me the courage to quit that job and pursue my art full time. As a result I have gotten to create sculpture and enrich the world too. Isn't it fascinating that when one works from the heart and spirit it can set off a ripple effect of good that is infinitely more powerful, enduring, true, and magical than any fame or material wealth? I think that's as the real stardom- radiating such bright goodness. Fame is transient, the flame of the soul is forever, so is all the good she has done.

She’s still beautiful, she still has that smile that made her so fucking gorgeous. She oozes with peacefulness and looks so free. She’s feeling good and loving life, and I love her for that.

This woman!!! Unbelievable!!! I saw her in concert back in early 90s...her voice-angelic. One of my all time favorite singers, so wished she had put out more stuff. I look her up a lot and catch her in live short performances, mostly doing backup.
I MEAN ...who can sing, walk, move up there with the Rolling Stones like that! It surely isn't lack of confidence!!!

Until I saw Twenty Feet From Stardom, my awareness of Lisa was 'just a kiss away'!! I vaguely remember that she won that Grammy, I vaguely remember that she had that single 'How Can I Ease the Pain', and I vaguely remember seeing her sing with the Stones (on TV). But after watching her in the film w/ footage from Sting commentary, her vocal gymnastics just blew me to the very core. Her instrument is otherworldly, and when you put that w/ her lack of ego..the attraction to her is infectious. I am a new fan. Thank you so much for this loving tribute. I am only 10 minutes in and am crying from her power to touch something deep within the listener.

Lisa is such a beautiful talented person. She should truly be a star upfront and center in her own right. I can't get enough of hearing her sing. I don't think she takes enough credit for how good she really is. She is one of the most selfless talent I have ever seen.

I am ashamed to confess that I had no knowledge of Lisa until this summer's Rolling Stones concert in Israel. Wow!!! This woman is a force of nature. A soul so big that when she switched it on, I started gasping for air. Nothing I can verbalize will do this singer justice. Just wow!

LOVED this entire clip---didn't even realize it's 37 mins long! Lisa is one of those people with such a great talent and yet so unknown. When Justin Beiber, Myley Cyrus and other clowns, buffoons and pretenders to music run rampant making millions of $$$ yet the Lisa Fischers go unnoticed---that's just not fair. The closing words are stunningly amazing----wonderful, wonderful sentiment!

THANK YOU. Thank You. thank you. The best female vocalist EVER! If she had ever taken up any of the offers of being signed up, we would never have had this legacy she has given us. What a vocalist, and that's all she wanted to be, so many stars realised this and gave her the spot she deserved and they were lucky enough to have her fill. I love you Lisa, not just the best female vocalist of all time, but many steps above anyone who thinks they could claim that crown, alive, passed or to come. I hope to still be alive when I hear such beauty again and can acknowledge it.
I just watched 20 Feet from Stardom on Netflix and discovered Lisa Fischer for the first time. All the ladies featured on the documentary are fabulous. But the Gimme Shelter piece with Merry Clayton and LF was amazing. I had no idea what a difference their contribution made to this classic song - both in the original recording & live performances! Made my husband watch last night - he was blown away as well. Thank you so much for this tribute to this amazingly talented woman. (I'm running out of suitable adjectives!)
I first saw her in Dallas Aug 1989 with the Stones She was beautiful, had the awesome figure, and could out sing anyone alive.....blows the mind why she is not the number one artist in the world...
I am ashamed that Lisa has been off my radar for music for some years and rediscovered her through a simple search on google. "Who sang backup to Gimme Shelter?" That led me to Merry Clayton that lead to the Documentary 20 feet from Stardom, that led to seeing Lisa Fischer and then connecting, "How Can I Ease the Pain" I have been watching anything Lisa for the last week. Her voice does it for me. Pure talent!

I totally agree. With the Internet, the FANS can share and promote talent when they see it. We don't have to wait for the Industry to decide to sign an artist and all that jazz...
The first time I ever saw & heard Lisa was the Luther Vandross concert at Wembly Stadium. What a sight for sore eyes and boy could she sing.
I was so happy for her when she won her Grammy, talent like this doesn't come around very often.

This woman has a voice unknown to mankind, above and beyond anything that we think is humanly possible, the greatest singer The Rolling Stones has ever had w/them........ long may u/run✌🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸
She's effortlessly down to earth, and it shows in her singing. She is always WITH the music, not on top of it. Her real power isn't the sheer timbre and range of her voice, but how she keeps it all under control and shows its fullness only at the right moment.
This is a woman who isn't only a monster vocalist but also a tasteful musician and a great person in general.
One word I can think of to represent her is "grace". She is so graceful--like a dancing flame! That, for me, is why she is "different."
Even after decades, her vocals in Gimme Shelter (my absolute favorite Rolling Stones song) never fail to give me goosebumps.

Mick is not exactly easy to sing with due to his proclivity for changing his note, scatting and chopping notes off when they're typically held. Lisa backs him up brilliantly-holding back when necessary, and picking harmonies that not only elevate the overall performance of the song but making Mick push himself to keep up. Beautiful. :)
You describe pretty well why Jagger is unic and he and Lisa makes it great whith different kind of voice.

I first encountered this extraordinary talent, known as Lisa Fischer, when she was performing as the lead backing singer of Mr. Luther Vandross. I witnessed as she wonderfully showcased this God given talent by winning her very own grammy for 1991's How can I ease the pain. When the news came that she would be the lead backing singer for the Rolling Stones, I knew then that those shows would be something special, for with her voice and the Anthology of the Stones, it could not have be a better fit. Thanks Lady Lisa for some precious musical memories.

Caroline Lawson I finally saw Luther Vandross live in Warwick Rhode Island at the Warwick Tent which was a small theatre in the round in 1990/1991. He gave his backup singers a singing spot and Lisa blew me away then. He voice is truly a gift from GOD. I know the music industry is a evil mess and even though Lisa had the talent to be a major solo act forever I'm kind of glad she's had the career that she has. It seems like in order to be a major star you have to sell your soul and Miss Fischer clearly has not lost hers!

Nice montage of great moments of Lisa Fischer. My first encounter with her and still my favorite of her is her contribution on Gimme Shelter. Mary Clayton is awesome on the original recording, but Lisa was given the opportunity to take it live on tour with the Stones for some many years and what a fabulous contribution she has made... :)

Excellent compilation job of this exceptional and unique singer, Caroline! As opposed to some comment earlier, I feel that Lisa comes across as very, very confident....she's just not a show-off about her job and passion. She seems to do exactly what she loves most in life and she does it incredibly well and totally in a class of her own. Contrary to the flood of mediocre performers that modern media and electronics spit out by the thousands, and like all genuine talent, she has no need to hide behind an arrogant and pathetic facade. A very nice portrait of this longtime favourite of mine! Thank you!!
My favourite female vocalist, loved every time she came on stage with Luther and you could see he had a special place for her in his heart; the chemistry seemed stronger than with any of his other backing singers.
