Thanks guys and Donald. I keep going back to this performance online when feeling the need to smile. Thanks again! My upstanding from Leo's telling, the *day of the concert* he needed to find a suit he could afford, then decided to coloured his hair to match his new suit.
This guy was once a subway performer, hence why he can move and play the way he does, you can’t just be good at something in the subway you gotta catch the attention! Check out some of his old subway stuff, it’s a really good watch.
He's using "multi-phonics" which is two notes at the same time. It's a trick for both saxophone and clarinet players. The other sounds are glissando's (sliding up and down on a pitch) and using the harmonics of the higher notes - also another trick for single reed instruments. So, there were no electronic modifications of his tone or playing. Everything you hear, Leo P. is doing. I loved your reaction ❤
Phil and Sam, you have to watch Leo playing in the New York subway with the other lads from Too Many Zoos. They are all very, very talented but pay particular attention to the black man playing drum and percussion. I can tell you this: if it was me playing drums like that for an hour, I would have back pain for a week at least.
I have a big interest in Leo P’s music as a baritone saxophonist, his Bari is an unmodified Yamaha horn, and he gets the high notes using overtones, which consists of putting an excessive volume of air down the instrument, with a lot of control, resulting in the high pitch. I’d recommend looking at his channel if you’re interested.
He said in one video when he was talking about dancing. When he would be busking in the subway he found that the more he danced, the more he made.. so he started incorporating a lot more dancing and movement when he played... For Economic reasons! Leo also has a teaching video with Grace Kelly where they go over how to make all the sounds like the 'growl' and such on any Sax
The Trumpet is a styled replica of a Trumpet famously used by Dizzy Gillespie, a revolutionary Jazz Trumpeter and Band Leader during the mid 1900's. The reason for the bent-bell trumpet is in 1953, during a performance, someone backstage fell onto his Trumpet and bent the bell 45 degrees. He liked the new sound it created and continued this tradition with having this customization with new Trumpets in his career.
The trumpet player is Christian Scott. More Leo P in Too Many Zooz, and Lucky Chops on RUclips. For more saxophone bassness, here's Leo P playing a contrabass sax (even BIGGER): ruclips.net/video/ptyi4Cqxp-o/видео.html Saxophones from smallest to largest: -Soprillo -Sopranino -Soprano (the Kenny G) -Alto (the "regular" saxophone) -Tenor (common in rock and jazz) -Baritone (bari sax, Leo P's specialty) -Bass (really big) -Contrabass (so big it needs a stand to hold it) -Subcontrabass (just....even MORE ridiculously big and low) Here's a subcontra, followed by (I think) a soprillo (might be a sopranino): ruclips.net/video/9BiW2mVKk0w/видео.html
Guys if you're looking for saxophone listen to Coltrane. It's way too sophisticated for You Tube reaction videos but at least your eyes will be opened wide.😮
My son played sax in an air cadet band, so movement during playing isn’t anything new to me. Air cadets have to memorize many different movements while playing and have to weave through the other band members. Not to diminish Leo, but his movements are solo.
Yes, it’s a baritone sax, with no modifications. His tones are purely done by his playing.

A great one to come back to every few months. Thanks for the reaction.

@@jefferyrightmire9520 or... using certain fingerings.

Check out 2 saxy. Way more recent Leo P in his best form
They’re performing “Moanin’” 1959

You need to check out some of his older Subway videos with the band he plays with. He has all kinds of styles different haircuts Etc

Love it!
11:35 Even though I am a sax player, I particularly love this trumpet part. Definitely my favorite part from this performance

Just check out 2 saxy allready. He takes walks 30 mins long while jamming freestyling. It is his most recent work on youtube and it is fucking amazing
Its all him baby... All him
That was so good on so many levels. Thanks Donald! Absolute masterclass. That Mult minute outro was astounding.
Leo has "It" Whatever it is, Leo has IT!😂
The trumpet player is Christian Scott.

For more saxophone bassness, here's Leo P playing a contrabass sax (even BIGGER):

Saxophones from smallest to largest:
-Soprillo
-Sopranino
-Soprano (the Kenny G)
-Alto (the "regular" saxophone)
-Tenor (common in rock and jazz)
-Baritone (bari sax, Leo P's specialty)
-Bass (really big)
-Contrabass (so big it needs a stand to hold it)
-Subcontrabass (just....even MORE ridiculously big and low)
Here's a subcontra, followed by (I think) a soprillo (might be a sopranino):

2 saxy is his thing now
He adjusts the REED by biting it in the right places.
The sax was a Bass sax and the trumpet is a specific type of trumpet. Look up Dizzy Gillespie, he invented the raised bell trumpet, from a accident..
Its a Bari sax and I had no idea what the trumpet was after 7 years
No it’s a baritone sax
Leo dubs this “brass house”
Leo has MASSIVE lungs.
That baritone sax weighs about 20 lbs. He has a pretty strenuous workout regime to keep that dance going without a crash!
❤❤🎉🎉 amei sua reação gostaria que você reagisse ao brasileiro Gabriel Henrique ele participou do agt americano música hurt
The sax was not modified he used overtone and just really really good 😅
