In Italy we called a "light" simple song like that "canzonetta" (little song not in a cute way). There's much better by The Police (with all the respect)
I saw these guys in 1977 at the Marquee Club in London....we were expecting to see a punk band as we'd never heard of the Police before.....they were amazing and got a standing ovation......entry was free as they were " unknown" then.......great days😊....looking at the video....OMG London has changed😮
The 1st single is kinda punky, when Henry Padovani was on lead guitar - "Fall Out" & especially "Nothing Achieving". All change when Andy took over lead slot in August '77.
Sting, Andy and Stewart, THE POLICE!!! One of the most amazing bands ever!! Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, King of Pain, De Do Do, So Lonely, Walking on the Moon, Don't Stand So Close to Me, So Lonely, Canary in a Coalmine, Can't Stand Loosing You... and many many many more!! This Group is Legendary!! So much Talent, they "all" have amazing Solo Careers, not just Sting, though having seen The Police twice, and Sting once, I don't think Sting is as good without Andy and Stewart.
The Police's catalog is so incredible! You guys haven't even touched their best songs yet! Three of the best musicians in history got together and formed a band. The result? The Police!
The Police were popular in the late 70's & early 80's. They were part of the British new wave scene & they played a style of rock influenced by punk, reggae & jazz. They have had a lot of hits such as "Can't Stand Losing You", "Walking On The Moon", "Don't Stand So Close to Me", "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" etc. Sting went on to have a big solo career.
I saw the Fixx doing Red Skies At Night with the sun going down painting everything blood orange . By the time the Police got onstage they were doing "Walking On The Moon" when you sometimes get that crazy big moon effect in the atmosphere after dark. The moon seemed like it covered half the sky . You could literally see the craters without a telescope . I remember thinking this has to be staged 🙃
As a drummer I can say with a non bias opinion it’s all about Stewart Copeland’s drumming His odd time signatures & his use of splash cymbals were brilliant That Sting & Andy guy were fairly good too 😂😂😂
Stewart was one of my biggest influences as a drummer in my teens, along with Bonham and Peart. My favorite drum part of his is on "Voices (Inside My Head). It may not be his best, but it's my favorite.
@p9167. Hey , I don’t know that one but I’ll check it out. - Thanks John , Neal , Ansley Dunbar, Simon Kirk, we’re my go too as a teen As an adult Jeff Campitelli has been the biggest drumming influence on me since my uncle taught me to play as a kid. Jeff played with Joe Satrini & others for decades - check out Joe’s songs “Circles “ or “Satch Boogie “ both from the same live show. Have a great week
Stewart Copeland, one of the best, most underrated drummers of all time. The Police were the most refreshing band throughout the 80s especially. The landscape was kind of barren compared to the 70s, but The Police kept it real.
Yeah but it is kind of futuristic, eh?! Masterpiece! One of those songs where Andy's guitar sounds different, so some listeners get confused and ask where's the guitar
One of the greatest pop songs - it just has whatever is required for a classic. Andy Summers on guitar has given the world a unique riff to practice…good luck with that one. Premier League pop music.
They were a bona fide hit machine. Much like the Beatles in the 60's, there was barely a week in the 80's without a Police track in the Top Ten. Every one of their singles went to the top. Fun fact: Sting acquired his name because he used to wear a yellow and black striped shirt that made him look like a bee. :)
This song is so fun! Of course Sting was one of my crushes but I always loved watching drummer Stuart Copeland bop around. Check out Every little thing she does is magic.
Nice reaction and analysis, you two! 😀👍 This is their 'signature song'. Maybe also try their 'Walking On The Moon'! 🙂 Wishing you a fun New Year's! 😊🙌💚☀️🎵
As suggestions for Sting solo songs, I'd like to suggest 2: "Desert Rose" and "Fields of Barley" to start with. Both songs are catchy and interesting in different ways.
Sting said he wrote this song because, as a young boy growing up in a dead-end seaport town with no future other than working on the docks, he was yearning to break the circle and become something more than that. He said that the Queen came to visit his town and he was mesmerized by the fact there was a completely different life outside of his reality and that's when he decided he was going to escape.
A great Police song is “Wrapped Around Your Finger.” There is a live performance that focuses solely on the drummer, Stewart Copeland. You would really appreciate a different perspective of the band by watching it.
More ska than reggae. All three of these guys were just top-notch musicians and it's fascinating to see what kind of jigsaw puzzles they can put together like this. ❤
When I heard about The Police in the late 70’s, I didn’t pay much attention because I thought they were a punk band and I didn’t like punk. Then I saw a music video for Message in a Bottle and I became a huge fan. I got to see them in concert in 2008 during their last tour.
They got the stamp of approval from Bob Marley. That had to be the biggest compliment Sting ever had for his adaptation of reggae within the New-Wave era. Regatta de Blanc… (White Reggae)
Every Breath You Take is about a stalker, and it's amazing how popular that song is. Listen to the album Synchronicity, best Police. Sting wrote a song about when he was a young teacher, who had a student develop a crush on him. Try that one it's an eye-opening song. This is a super group, immense talent in writing , playing and singing!! ❤
Good tune. Police have a reggae beat in many songs. "Everything She Does is Magic" is my favorite. What's the difference between Sting and Jon Bon Jovi? While they are both pretty, Sting is talented too. Ha! Release the trolls!
Phil & Sam My friends and I were fortunate enough to see The Police in concert in 2008. Members of The Police reunited for a reunion tour. They jammed for over 3 hours.
Hey Guys , I have to You That Sting & Police Are from The UK !!!!!! They Become Super Famous Here In The US in The Late 70 Early Twentieths!!!!! That Why They Have That Reggage Sound Cause They Spent a Lot Of Time In Jamaica !!!!!!
Reggae n' roll was called at the time. They are great. Period. This song is from Reggatta de blanc their second record the best in my opinion(i love also the first) but most of the people says it's Synchronicity...
Had this album in high school, so good. Bring on the night is my fav nowadays but the whole tracklist is wonderful. Also love Zenyata, but the dododo you know...
Most of their music had a ska/reggae sound. Hard to believe they only put out 5 albums together. React to De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da. Yes that's a song 😊.
Great song, the Police have so many bangers. There was always friction between Stewart Copeland and Sting, they loved to rub each other up the wrong way.
Guys ! , next time do these other's bangers from them : ''Every little thing she does is magic'' , ''Can't stand losing you'' , ''Don't stand so close to me'', ''Spirits in the material world'' , ''Walking on the moon'' , ''King of pain'' , Synchronicity II'' , ''So Lonely'' , ''Wrapped around your finger'' , ''De do do do, De da da da , ''Synchronicity I'' .
A great Sting song is "All For Love" and better still it's a collab with Rod Stewart and Bryan Adams. Can you imagine the rasp harmonies? Well no need to imagine, add it to your future reaction list because it is an incredible song with soaring vocals!
This was when I got hooked by The Police back in '79 and add in Toto's early albums, The Cars, Dire Straits and Heart at this time and the music was so good. Little did we know that by 1983 The Police were done, five albums is all we got.
Both of drummer Stewart Copeland’s parents were involved in spycraft. His Scottish mother worked in the British Special Operations Executive (much of which was later wrapped up into MI6) and his father was a founder member of the CIA.
A year has passed since I broke my nose ,, Fix it Sting ......j k old joke,... but Zenyatta Mondatta album is full of Police gems like Don't Stand So Close to Me "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" "When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around"

We would have even more music from the Police if ,1, Sting didn’t become a legendary solo artist, and 2, if Sting and Stewart Copland could get along. It was Stewart’s band and him and Sting clashed all the time.
Let me say upfront that I am a fan of The Police. They have a unique sound and are excellent musicians and Sting has a good voice and is a gifted lyricist. Message In a Bottle is an early hit (1979) by The Police. I like the song but it has always rubbed me the wrong way somewhat because of what I perceive to be Sting's occasional penchant for 'borrowing' themes and/or phrases from other hit songs. Consciously or not, I believe he more than borrowed some words and the thrust of the 1973 Led Zeppelin song D'Yer Mak'er and used it in their mega hit Every Breath You Take. Check out the lyrics of both songs to see what I mean. In the same vein, I think Sting used the theme and phrasing of a late stanza in the mega pop hit, once again from 1973, Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree by Tony Orlando and Dawn and used it for a late stanza in his Message In a Bottle. Here’s the late verse from Message In A Bottle: 'Walked out this morning, I don't believe what I saw, Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore, Seems I'm not alone at being alone, Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home.' Here's the stanza from Tie A Yellow Ribbon a song, like Message In A Bottle, about loneliness and ultimate acceptance that I believe Sting, knowingly or not, 'borrowed' for Message In A Bottle: 'Now the whole damn bus is cheering, And I can't believe I see, A hundred yellow ribbons 'round the old oak tree, I'm comin' home.' Also, I have to note that singing about a hundred billion bottles and a hundred billion castaways is beyond logical and ridiculous when Sting could have just said something sort of believable, with the same effect, such as 100 million, but I guess you don't get the 'bb' lyrical alliteration then. Both Message In A Bottle and Every Breath Youth Take have excellent melodies but the words and themes seem to have been cribbed by Sting to some degree without proper credit to the earlier artists. Just sayin'.
Can't believe you took this long to get to Message in a Bottle! Their top well known hit, the one that made them stars. Next you should hit WALKING ON THE MOON.
I think you guys would like King of Pain….the lyrics are on point…..re this song…..stewart copeland on drums is a monster…..you should watch him doing this song on Drumeo here on youtube….he still monsters this.

After they wrote it and put it on tape they asked their Record executives to come round and they asked them, what you got, they played the tape and the executives faces went like Chesire cats.....and said wow what else you got? I'll go with overlooked, simply due to Sting's presence. He was just so accurate with his speed, and tempo changes. Certainly in my top 5 too.
