  • Kevin Costner's first installment of his western epic has been released, but is it worth your time and money, or should you just see A Quiet Place: Day One instead?

    I saw the movie this evening. I purposefully did little advance research and went not really knowing anything about it other than it’s a Costner passion project. But growing up in Oklahoma and familiar with western history, the genre holds a special place. I really enjoyed it. The cinematography is beautiful. I liked that the story made you think and didn’t spoon feed the viewer or make it too predictable. This was best served by having the pacing move from different storylines like it did. I’ve read tonight (after viewing) where some folks think the movie is chaotic and frenetic in its storytelling, and I think that is somewhat purposeful. That’s what the west was like during that era. Sometimes decisions were made in haste that proved deadly, and this movie does a good job of highlighting this. I’m definitely looking forward to watching the next movie and hope for a full four part run. Thanks for your critique though. Always enjoy hearing others take as well.

      Thank you for your insightful comment! I always love to hear takes of others as well. I was born and raised in Texas so I hear you on the western genre holding a special place. I’m jealous you enjoyed it; like I mentioned, I really wanted to. I didn’t mention it but yeah, the cinematography was good! Also, good point on it not being too predictable. There were too many things I didn’t care for personally for me to enjoy it, but I respect your thoughts on it. I will be seeing Chapter 2 and hope I like it a lot more! Feel free to check out my video whenever it comes out and I hope to get your take on that one too! Maybe our tastes will be more in line next time around 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Horizon is one of the best Westerns ever made, no idea how you could give it a 2.5 stars.

      First of all, I appreciate you watching and commenting! I went in hoping to feel the same way you did, but there were just too many issues I had with it. It didn’t all suck to me, though; I do think Costner’s Open Range was a lot better (though I’ll grant you it’s a different type of story). My favorite western is The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, btw, and I don’t believe any western will ever top it. But I respect your opinion and I still hope I like Chapter 2 more

    I saw Verizon two days ago. It’s almost as if the reviewer here and I saw different movies. I loved the movie! It was beautifully filmed, the music was amazing, and fit the storyline, the acting was amazing and even though I had heard some of the storylines could be confusing. I didn’t find it confusing at all. I can hardly wait for the second movie to come out and completely hope that all four chapters, and the possible fifth chapter I heard about in a Kevin Costner interview, might actually be made.

      Glad you liked it! Like I said, I was rooting for it to be good. I have noticed that most people either loved it or hated it, there’s few people in the middle haha… I too am confused personally whenever I hear people raving about it. Guess it’s just down to different tastes 🤷🏻‍♂️ Appreciate your comment!

    I tried to respond to @Guywithnonamereviews comment to me, but got the 400 error.
    I’m wondering if you all think that a persons age, generation and Or experiences affects our reactions to the movie. To any movie, I guess?

    • @Guywithnonamereviews
      @Guywithnonamereviews  5 дней назад +1

      @@jG-iw2gb that’s strange… Honestly, overall I think age in particular affects it quite a bit! I know my taste has changed a bit, but I’ve noticed how my friends vs. my dad’s friends vs. my grandparents and their friends like very different movies. And I have a cousin who has watched so much TikTok she literally can’t sit through a single movie (her words, not mine). But that’s a great question! What are your thoughts?
      Edit: forgot to say my view on certain movies has changed since I became a parent. Suddenly, I identify more with the adults/parents of films than ever before, and I am more lenient towards kids’ movies now since I love seeing my daughter enjoy them

    Darn I was kind of looking forward to seeing this, but now I might just wait for it to come out on streaming or even wait to see how reviews for Chapter 2 are. I don’t want to get invested in it like that if it’s not worth it

    Watched the movie last night. Enjoyed it but was a little underwhelmed by what I felt was unrealistic makeup on women who are supposed to be traveling, living and working in the middle of nowhere but look like they spent 3 hours on their makeup. There were also some scenes that were unnecessarily drawn out. Much of the filming was done in tight such that the beautiful scenery could be enjoyed. However the multiple characters stories are interesting and you become engrossed with their plot. I noticed a lot of well known actors as well. Overall I give it a 7 out of 10 and will be watching episode 2.
