Do we want an economy where we just shrug off corporate price gouging?

    • @nubraskan

I'm still tryna figure out why we act like a handful of rich dudes behind closed doors determining massive policy implications for billions (yes, billions), and then being ambiguous about it, is the right way to be doing things.

We’ve been marching there for decades. It’s not about what we want. The 1% have held more American wealth than the middle class since 2020, and money is speech

There is no such thing as price gouging. Its a nonsense political term. Price is set at what people are willing to pay. A raise in price assures a supply for those willing and able to pay.

@@jude999 Wishing it didnt exist wont make it go away to fit the simplest frame of supply and demand.
Economics does not exist in a vacuum void of externalities. Politics and economics are extremely intertwined.
Price gouging is a hot issue where economists debate what policymakers should do. The Harvard business review has several easy to read articles on it.

This was a great breakdown - thanks for sharing!!!
Like you said, we obviously aren't going back to the days of zero interest rates, but do you think there is a "rates floor" the fed would target as we move into 24/25? Like is 2% the new 0%? Or is there some other arbitrary rate limit(s) depending on the economic climate as we march forward?

Their policy effects dominate our economy and stretch beyond our borders. Yet we rely on a handful of humans and clumsy communication efforts to control it.

I wish an expensive bloomin onion was my biggest concern. With a newborn at home and having been part of a mass layoff, finding a job has been a nightmare. Nearly 200 applications later and funds running low, I get angry every time I hear someone tell me the economy is good

You are not alone. You’re joined in your struggle by a large % of Americans. It’s not just vibes- they’re calling the economy “strong” when it is leaving behind more than half of US citizens. Cherry picked fed talking points to pump up the portfolios of the 1% and our government officials.

Nice video, Kyla! How funny that an organization (The Fed) created to help end the businesses cycle and economic uncertainty has acquiesed to the fact that while it can hope to do so, it mostly flies blind. Hopefully one day we will return the determination of the price of money back to the free market and get away from central planning which is no more efficient at knowing the correct price of money than the correct price of wheat or other commodities (ask the Soviets). It's all such an unnecessary song and dance.

Can we just all agree that people are toxic and never practical? It's one thing to buy a $125 steak, but it's a different thing entirely when that steak gets door dashed. Comparing that personal choice with the economy its crazy stupid!

TWO blooming onions, a steak salad, lobster tails (plural!), a chicken sandwich and a sirloin steak for *ONLY* $125US delivered straight to your door? Sign me up for that deal! JESU CHRISTO, you have no idea how good of a deal that is! These are luxury goods, my dude. People are losing their homes and can't feed their kids but please do go on about your largesse. In his next tweet: how expensive it is to buy his kids their first Lexus at these prices.
