Finished the test, found out two days later that I passed! I'd say this vid has good recommendations BUT after scouring these comments for months I'm worried that with only 36 questions the Algebra portion has some legit variation between subjects covered. As an avid reader, Reading Comp was a cakewalk. I had enough time to go through every question twice with 5 min to spare. Algebra though was a different story.I studied regularly and the questions imo were Advanced difficulty versions of algebra problems. Optimistically I counted 29/36 questions that I felt confident in my answers. The alegraba section FOR ME was basically 4 sections: -->sequences (mostly easy but some tough ones like 38, 41, 46, 53, 67...) -->lots of PEMDAS (plug in variables and solve in correct order) make sure you can multiply/divide fractions/decimals, understand square roots. -->"which of the following statements is true for this formula" (ruclips.net/video/SNia4Hh_AbA/видео.html at 8:04 is the best example to explain) -->rise/run linear equations and function "f(x)" tables (you get a data table or graphed line and have to select which other data table, equation or graphed line is equivalent) Khan is the best resource for sure: Make sure you can get 90%+ consistently on Course Challenges for Pre-Alg and Alg Basics then move to Alg 1 and focus on: -Linear equations and Graphs -Forms of Linear equations -Quadratics: Multiplying and Factoring There was an exponential function question that I just biffed, no idea so I guessed. Knowing how to solve is helpful but understanding the theory so you can apply to complex questions is key. A simple "solve for f" question will have f on both sides of the equation, one side squared, the other divided. Hope this helps anyone else there, Thanks to Mad Electrician for this vid. I've watched it at least 20 times. I'll update this comment when I find out whether I passed/failed. Good luck to everyone out there!
Thank you for this breakdown. I’m trying to gage how much studying I should do. If I took pre calc in high school and let’s say all the formulas would come back to me in a few nights, do you think I should not take it lightly and put in the extra hours or is it easy enough to cram a few days before?
@@DubG89 You should study as much and as hard as possible for two reasons: 1) to fend of multiple choice distractors and 2) each question is timed to 1 min 24 seconds. I have a university degree in a technical subject, and I solved many hundreds of problems over two weeks for five hours per day. And I worked hard to minimize mistakes and to work as fast through the problems as possible.
Took my test the other day and passed! Thanks for the tips and advice in this video. Proud to be the only woman in the room and show everyone I can do this too.
Heck yeah you did, Hannah! That’s truly something to be proud of! Thanks for sharing that and I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your application process. If there is any advice that you want that you can’t find in my videos then please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m really glad to hear that the videos are helping ⚡️
@@MadElectrician Well, I did get my letter in the mail about my score, but it stated that they won’t have interviews set until after the new year. I don’t want to just sit around until then, I feel like I should do something productive to possibly gain a little edge in the competition. Any recommendations for something I could do around my full work schedule?
Right on, that’s actually pretty soon. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should watch my Applying For IBEW Apprenticeship video. I actually go in depth explaining ways to gain an edge on the competition and make you look like the perfect candidate for the apprenticeship. Basically I would recommend using this time to work on doing things that you can add to your portfolio that you’ll bring with you to your interview. I explain all of that in the video. Side note, you might not actually be able to hand out individual portfolios to the interview committee during this time due to the pandemic. I would just be mentally prepared for that and maybe come prepared with a portfolio with very enlarged photos so that you can still show the interview committee what you want them to see without having to hand them the portfolio. Hope that helps! Also of course just be prepared for any potential interview questions. The two big questions to have a rock solid answer for are: 1. Why do you want to be an electrician? 2. Why should we choose you? Also if possible try to schedule a mock interview. I did that and I highly recommend it 👍🏼
I took my test 5 days ago (4/1/2022) and passed. I was TERRIBLE at math as a kid. I spent 6 months studying to prepare. The key for me was practicing math problems that where slightly more difficult then what i would encounter on the test. If I can pass this test, anyone can.
This is awesome to hear, brother. Starting as a pre-apprentice on Monday. Local 124. I also struggled greatly with math as a kid. Just hired a tutor and going to grind my tail off the next 4-5 months so I can pass the test and officially be indentured into the program!!
@Joe Williams I know this comment section is old as dirt, but have you really never been told this as a kid/young adult while in school? "YOU better remember your times table because you won't have a calculator in your pocket when your grow up." Or my personal favorite "They're not going to let you use a calculator when you get to high school." I don't know where those teachers went but a calculator was given out for almost every single test I took in high school and I wasn't in "special classes". I'm not trying to say it's not useful to be good at doing mental math, but some teachers made some real dumb arguments that didn't add up. No pun intended.
@willbates8464 that annoyed me so much or my other favorite "your collage professors aren't going to be so nice to you in collage" some of the nicest and most understanding people I've ever met were professors 🤣🤣
I just finished my test up at ibew local 48! I thought I did pretty well although I did not fully take into account the speed of the test. Some of the series questions took a little more time than I had anticipated and I had to rush through the last ten or so questions. Nothing super difficult, nothing really past algebra 1, but I was taking my time "showing my work" so to speak-- even though it was all multiple choice since I didn't want to miss a step but that cost me time in the end. The reading portion was really straightforward as long as y'know, you can read and understand properly. I finished that section with 15 minutes to spare. at local 48 there's laptops now to take the test on now but you can still request to do a paper test at a later time if you wish. With the computer test they say you'll be notified if you fail pretty quickly and if you pass they'll give you an interview time which may take several weeks. I didn't get a fail notification so I'm assuming I passed! Looking forward to my interview now.
I started watching this video on Monday when I had about half an hour until my aptitude test at the PDX Training Center. I left a few answers on the math portion unanswered which had me nervous this entire week. Today, I got notification that I passed and my interview is scheduled for next month. Really excited and grateful for the forthcoming journey. Cheers all!
I got connected with someone from the IBEW Sisters of Solidarity prior to my interview and they really really helped me with preparing for my interview. They gave great advice for putting together my portfolio and what the questions would be like. I felt like I did really well on my interview, but a couple of days later I received notification that I was ranked in the 700s for the queue list. It was a little discouraging, but I understand that I do have a lack of experience in working in the trade fields specifically. I'm currently trying to get on the book as a material handler or join the LiUNA local 737 as a laborer so that I can re-interview in 6 months and better prove myself that I'm a willing and capable candidate.
@@noah_boad That's a bummer. I am pleased to read that you have a plan: trying to get on as a material handler and preparing for the re-interview in six months. Six months will go by quick.
@@Artecus It was surely disappointing at first but I'm trusting the process.. I'm pleased to say that I have been material handling for 2 months now and am looking forward to crushing the re-interview!! 💪
@@noah_boad That is great news, I am so happy for you. You will murder the interview in a few months. Luckily, I was admitted to both unions (electrical and line) and the line union called first. In fact, they spent more time chatting with me. After speaking with three lineman about their careers, asking many questions, writing everything down, searching and inputing data onto an Excel spreadsheet to compare the pros and cons of both, researching again, I was sworn in to the lineman union several weeks ago. What an unpredictable world: prepared so much to be an electrician only to forego and train to be a lineman!
Just got my test results back and passed (God is good) this video is pretty on point , and also the test questions may vary depending on where you’re applying, but one thing that really threw me off was the graphing questions which they asked me at the end of the test , make sure you do a little extra study on that, and also don’t underestimate the reading comprehension !!!
@@ASSwipe. I never even passed on high school , it’s really about repetition bro , practice algebra formula questions for at least 2-3 hours a day , don’t give up , practice practice practice
I took the test and passed today, I did mediocre on the math and almost aced the reading comprehension. If you are bad at math like me I would recommend practicing number patterns, and review on PEMDAS and FOIL
@@danielsantana9873you can hire tutors that specifically tutor for the IBEW Aptitude test. Was going to do that once my Lineman apprenticeship opens up.
Thanks bud! 39 and your channel was the ONLY way I passed the aptitude test. Always been weak in math (strong reader). Took your advice, utilized Khan Academy and it worked. Also at my JATC the test is on a computer now and it was "insta-graded". My passed letter is dated for the same day I took my test. So just wanted to let some know it may not be 2 weeks. I heard after 2 business days. Good luck everyone and put in the work and it will pay off.
took my test this afternoon. reading part was easy. math part was a bit rough. lots of recognizing number patterns, factoring polynomials, and pemdas (order's of operations). i ran out of time so i guessed on maybe 8 of the 33 questions. overall i feel pretty optimistic. definitely look over factoring polynomials. was a godsend for me to have done some practice problems this morning before the test. also if you can't figure out a question in like 45 seconds, I'd say skip it and save it for the end. better to get the guaranteed points first before wasting too much time on something you struggle with. thank you for your video. your guides are amazing.
The best test advice imo was bookmarking the difficult questions. This is great because your other questions may have pieces in them that can help solve your more difficult questions. Worst case, coming back to a question is always better than wasting time stressing about the answer.
Havent taken any tests to be an electrician but i have taken 11 tests for being a mechanic(passed 9 of them), i found if you know your stuff, you fly by the test, if it makes anyone feel any better, i failed one test by 1 question(got 33 and needed 34), took it the second time and only missed 5 questions(got 45 of 50, only needed 34) but i flew through it, hope it helps/inspires others to keep going/try again Im really looking into being an electrician now, thanks so much for all this information that you put out there, super helpful and took away the "new-ness" of being an electrician, makes me feel like ive been doing it just with automotives, thanks so much!
Just wanted to say thank you! You're videos have been extremely helpful in my journey to gain acceptance into the apprenticeship program at my Local 275 in Michigan. This video was clutch in helping me prepare for the aptitude test (especially the tip about Kahn Academy)! I spent about an hour a day studying algebra and reading comprehension for 2 months or so leading up to the aptitude test. It definitely worked! I don't know my exact results, but I was scored 9 out of 9 and I definitely credit your guidance! On Kahn Acadamy, I thoroughly studied the Basic Algebra, Pre Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry Units (ended up not really needing the Geometry for the aptitude test, but I'm sure it will come in handy later). The only thing that Kahn didn't really have good material for was sequences, but I was able to find other helpful RUclips videos on those and had no problem with them on the test. In fact, studying paid-off so much that I didn't even have to guess on any of the test questions since I was able to work-through and solve every one... My pre-interview is coming up on 4/13/2023 and Official Interview on 4/20/2023, so now I'm just going over my answers to probable interview questions and organizing my portfolio. Thanks again Stephen. You've been an invaluable resource.
After taking the test (and passing with an 8!) I quickly realized from conversation that doing a quick brush up on algebra if you've been out of school for a while will give a HUGE advantage. It seemed like most people were stressed and under-prepared for the math portion. There were also a few that were there for a retake after not passing previously. I also learned that covering the basics in each section of the Kahn Academy Algebra 1 course was plenty. The more difficult parts of the course weren't even covered in the test, I came out of the test realizing I was actually OVER-prepared. I gotta say taking your Kahn Academy recommendation was definitely the right choice. Now just waiting for my interview date (2-4 months)
@@niuatoa5284 if you're referring to the list of courses, yes. I'd go straight to the course test for pre-algebra and see how you do there. On Algebra Basics and Algebra 1 as long as you get a general idea of how to do each unit, you're good. I wouldn't spend too much time trying to master each section.
@@davidrazo8698 I had the score in my email before I got home. Current turnaround for interview is 2-4 months in Seattle market (IBEW 46). That time may vary based on number of applicants and COVID related situations (there are two other locations imediately north and south of here that haven't been taking applications, so more applicants than normal have been applying at 46)
Thanks a bunch. Just got an offer to get sponsored through WECA by a company specializing in low voltage, so I will be a low voltage electrician, which is fine by me. I've already been brushing up on my math skills. To being prepared, and owning life.
Hey big thanks man. I have my test tomorrow and Its been like 5 years since I did a math test. The list of algebra concepts really helped me focus my studying.
Thanks so much for the insight man! I got the results for my test and I passed! I took it for California and for some reason it doesn't say what was my score but it does say I can book my interview. Hardest part about the test imo is the short amount of time they give you. It's tough to do math equations on such short amount of time. I read in the comments that someone recommended the iprep course and I bought it a night before the test. That course was a life saver because it helps you study exactly what's on the test instead of you wasting time studying subjects that you won't see. HIGHLY RECOMMEND spending the money on it. Also we used computers for the reading portion and unfortunately I wasn't able to underline important sentences so just be aware of that. Thanks again!!!!
Hey man myns is in about 20 days, who knows if we’ll have the same test, but I wanna ask if the test was how people describe it, with pretty much it having the type of questions on the sample (sequences, replacing variables with #, write problems differently , charts etc.) but harder? & what Iprep are you talking about?
Good run down on the video and tips of becoming an electrician, I am taking my test in 2 weeks from now and will reply back with progress whether I fail or pass and when my interview will be or next time I will apply again. Just got notified that I passes my aptitude test for Local 48! Something new that I was absolutely not prepared for was that my test was done on a laptop. I took the same test 2 years ago at the same location and it was on paper. I can say for sure it's the same test. Personally I found it to be slightly annoying to test this way because I like to hold my scratch paper right next to the test. looking back and forth to the screen took critical seconds off my time. Before the test began they DID give us the option to take it on paper but that would have required a rescheduling of your test date. I opted to continue since I don't think my nerves could have handled any more waiting. I applied late November and I'm interviewing next month! MUCH faster process than I expected.
Great information man, all very helpful. I'm just starting on my journey towards getting apprenticeship so your channel is extremely helpful. Thanks again.

In Ohio it's different for a union job where i applied. Its math only and its through Aleks. After you're done you get your results instantly and if you fail the first time you just need to complete a certain amount of hours on the Aleks website. I think only 5, best thing to do is take it once if you fail you get access to Aleks for a year for only $50 (cost to take the test). The first time I took the test I got a score of 5 and you need a minium of 20 to pass. Second time after I took it I got a score of 27. Also its not multiple choice.
Took my test yesterday and was super stressed about it. I used khan academy for any where of 1.5 hours to 30mins a night studying. Got my results back not even 24 hours later and passed! I took the test two times and the second time definitely seemed easier after seeing what was on it.

I got really nervous when there was about 20 of us waiting to go into the test room. I studied Algebra 2 prep with Khan academy. I didn't finish all the math problems and didn't have time to select a random answer. If you take it on a computer, go through and answer A,A,A, etc just so you have a 25% chance of getting it right instead of 0%. Speed read through it articles, then read the questions and search for the answers. Since you speedread, you'll kind know where to look. You can't use control F, or else they'll flag it. I was really worried that I did really bad, but I got above average on both.

This is scarily accurate to the Australian Apprenticeship, when i went to my RTO/TAFE i did a Pre-Apprenticeship for electrical. and there is a little test beforehand, like an Aptitude test called the LLN, pretty much the same as you guys in Oregon but English first then Maths. cuz australia is tiny there were max only 90 applying for the role, it 2 months for me to get a response, because it kept on being forwarded to yet another company. and Surprisingly the LLN here in australia you get like forever to finish it; four hours maybe??. its crazy

@@TheOnlyShane Okay, great. Now that you have time, please do this: go to the OSHA Education Center online and pay, get certified for OSHA-10, OSHA electrical, and OSHA CPR AED. We do this in the apprenticeship anyway, and this will get you a leg up against the other applicants, that is if your local offers a petition to re-interview in six months. If you can, either enroll in two community college electrical courses or try to get a part/full-time position at an electrical contractor; your local posts the union contractor list on their website. In my local, applicants can petition to re-interview in six months if they either enroll in two community college trade courses or seek electrical construction entry level work. Other than waiting for positions to open so that your 140 ranking gets to zero, what do you think about the above I wrote?

Hey! I actually spoke with one of your local 48 members about becoming an electrician! I'm based in Seattle area and I'm currently studying for my aptitude test at the end of this month. Thanks for posting this guide, it's very helpful!
When I took my test, it was all on the computer. So you're not able to underline anything, and you couldn't see the questions all at once. What I did was click through all the questions and then read the passage. I finished the reading in 26 minutes so I had an additional 25 minutes to go over my answers. The passages were about waters special properties, the doppler affect, tea tree oil as a first aid, and the Venus fly trap. The math had graphs with xy tables, sequences, analyzing functions, and "plug and chug" is what I call equations where you have to plug in numbers to find the variable, or manipulate the formula to find a variable (no numbers given)
@@angelramos4760 I highly recommend purchasing iprep, it's $39.99 and it has questions that are very similar to the aptitude test. It gives you 3 simulation math tests and 3 simulated reading tests. The iprep has a free practice tests that's like 5 questions, you can do that a couple times but it's worth the 40 bucks for sure.

Hey Fidel! No new updates or recommendations at the moment. Everything is still pretty current. Are you going to be taking an aptitude test sometime in the near future?
Took my test today and barely anything that I studied on was on it. It was timed into 6 minutes of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. We had 40 questions to answer in a matter of six minutes. Next was a spatial aptitude test where you’d have to think visually about two dimensional objects being folded into three dimensional object. We had 29 questions with 6 minutes to answer. Next was a vocabulary questioner with 4 words per question. You would have to figure out if two of the words have the same meaning or opposite meanings. We have 41 of those for 7 minutes. The last writing proportion was solving arithmetic problems expressed verbally. We had 25 of those questions with 7 minutes on the clock. Then lastly was a dexterity test where we used a peg board. In all honesty I believe I bombed that test because everything I was studying for did not correlate with what was on the test. Check with your union’s website. I was more focused on reading passages and answering them correctly. And with math I was more focused on algebra 1+2. Of course I went over with the basic algebra of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing but I could of used the time of brushing up on my Algebra 1+2 with timing myself with numerical questions. So I’m hella bummed out. Went in not knowing what was going on. Again, make sure to check with your local union and not just RUclips videos.
EXACTLY THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!! I went in yesterday for my aptitude test after having completed a community college course on Algebra 1. ( mth 65) last winter. I’m not very good at math, so I brushed up again on what RUclips said they would cover and the questions were so far from what I prepaid for. Even the college final was easier and more diverse in questions. My test consisted of mostly worded math problems, and the type of problems where you have to solve the possible answers to find the correct one. Definitely doable but very time consuming. Feels like a kick to the gut to have to wait six months

I studied everything from multiplying fractions and decimals to factoring quadratics and there was not a single algebra question. It was all purely about tools and mechanics. How the tools work and how to use them properly. How different machines work. Positioning of the screws, bolts, washers. It was brutal. I wouldn't even know how to study if I were to take it again. I obviously expected some mechanical questions which is why I put some time into levers, pulleys, and gears. But no math? I don't understand what I just took and it didn't resemble any study guide that I've seen on the internet. Wish me luck, because I'm going to need a whole lot of it to have passed that craziness.
Really appreciate this video man. Have injury or back problems been a big problem for you recently? I've talked to a lot of tradesmen and they say they have injuries just from not exercising and being mindful of the loads they've carried and wanted to know if you've had any medical issues because of being an electrician
I was asked to take the test for local 373. It’s online for us through skillpan. They even give us free study material. We have about 2 weeks to complete the test, needs to be done in one sitting.
Right on man! Khan academy does a great job at preparing you if you practice those three subjects that I recommended. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about anything. Happy to help 👍🏼⚡️
Mad Electrician thanks! I do have a few questions. Is the test on paper or on a computer? Also are they all multiple choice or just a few of them? I go in this Tuesday morning to take the test. Appreciate it!
Thank you so much for these videos! Im currently trying to get my foot in the door as an electrician and was curious as to how hard the math section is? I downloaded Khan Academy and clicked on the courses you suggested however, it looks pretty intimidating. Im 29 and havent been in school since High School lol. I really want to get into the apprenticeship but Im a little scared to take the test.
Take the diagnostic test and buy the JobTestPrep PrepPack electrician apprentice online course for one month or three months. I studied that very hard for two weeks and got a perfect score on the examination in both sections, according to my Local.
Hey man did you go for it? I am in my early 30s and I am in the boat you described in your comment. 😭 I saw I missed the application period by no joke 3 DAYS. But now I'm kind of grateful that I have that time to learn and prepare and build myself up but...should I commit a year to a maybe I'll get in? Anyhow let me know how things went.
@@MadElectrician i feel like i did pretty good, the math was daunting at first, but I feel like I got most of them right and I made educated guesses on the four or so I didn't quite know. And I breezed through the reading section. Khan academy and your tips on time management were great.
The alegraba section FOR ME was basically 4 sections:
-->sequences (mostly easy but some tough ones like 38, 41, 46, 53, 67...)
-->lots of PEMDAS (plug in variables and solve in correct order) make sure you can multiply/divide fractions/decimals, understand square roots.
-->"which of the following statements is true for this formula" (ruclips.net/video/SNia4Hh_AbA/видео.html at 8:04 is the best example to explain)
-->rise/run linear equations and function "f(x)" tables (you get a data table or graphed line and have to select which other data table, equation or graphed line is equivalent)
Khan is the best resource for sure: Make sure you can get 90%+ consistently on Course Challenges for Pre-Alg and Alg Basics then move to Alg 1 and focus on:
-Linear equations and Graphs
-Forms of Linear equations
-Quadratics: Multiplying and Factoring
There was an exponential function question that I just biffed, no idea so I guessed.
Yo thanks for this
Thank you for this breakdown.
Passed my test, and got interview set. Building my experiences up!
So should I not study for sequences in alg 1 khan academy??
The two big questions to have a rock solid answer for are:
1. Why do you want to be an electrician?
2. Why should we choose you?
Also if possible try to schedule a mock interview. I did that and I highly recommend it 👍🏼
@@MadElectrician Thank you so much! I greatly appreciate all the information! I’ll be sure to check out the video.
Awesome, you’re very welcome ⚡️
I took my test 5 days ago (4/1/2022) and passed. I was TERRIBLE at math as a kid. I spent 6 months studying to prepare. The key for me was practicing math problems that where slightly more difficult then what i would encounter on the test.
If I can pass this test, anyone can.
What online resources did you use to study for the math portion of the test?
I hired a math tutor.
This is awesome to hear, brother. Starting as a pre-apprentice on Monday. Local 124. I also struggled greatly with math as a kid. Just hired a tutor and going to grind my tail off the next 4-5 months so I can pass the test and officially be indentured into the program!!

"You can't use a calculator because you won't always have one in your pocket...." Look at us now.
They didn’t see that one coming 😂
What u mean?
Going for 48 what did ya see on there man? 🙏
Just got my test results back and passed (God is good) this video is pretty on point , and also the test questions may vary depending on where you’re applying, but one thing that really threw me off was the graphing questions which they asked me at the end of the test , make sure you do a little extra study on that, and also don’t underestimate the reading comprehension !!!

definitely look over factoring polynomials. was a godsend for me to have done some practice problems this morning before the test.
also if you can't figure out a question in like 45 seconds, I'd say skip it and save it for the end. better to get the guaranteed points first before wasting too much time on something you struggle with.
thank you for your video. your guides are amazing.

Im about to take the test today and this video has helped me feel confident walking into it today. Thank you.
How’d you do
The best test advice imo was bookmarking the difficult questions. This is great because your other questions may have pieces in them that can help solve your more difficult questions.
Worst case, coming back to a question is always better than wasting time stressing about the answer.
Havent taken any tests to be an electrician but i have taken 11 tests for being a mechanic(passed 9 of them), i found if you know your stuff, you fly by the test, if it makes anyone feel any better, i failed one test by 1 question(got 33 and needed 34), took it the second time and only missed 5 questions(got 45 of 50, only needed 34) but i flew through it, hope it helps/inspires others to keep going/try again
Im really looking into being an electrician now, thanks so much for all this information that you put out there, super helpful and took away the "new-ness" of being an electrician, makes me feel like ive been doing it just with automotives, thanks so much!

Don’t wait. Go chase your career.
How did it go
Just wanted to say thank you!

@@timothyperkins178 Great!! Glad to hear that for you brother. That’s great. Wishing you the best on your journey to become a journeyman and beyond!
Did you feel the list he posted was pretty accurate?
@@niuatoa5284 if you're referring to the list of courses, yes. I'd go straight to the course test for pre-algebra and see how you do there. On Algebra Basics and Algebra 1 as long as you get a general idea of how to do each unit, you're good. I wouldn't spend too much time trying to master each section.
Hello ! Quick questions ! How long does it take to know that you passed and ALSO is every interview date a couple months away?
@@davidrazo8698 I had the score in my email before I got home. Current turnaround for interview is 2-4 months in Seattle market (IBEW 46).

I took the same test 2 years ago at the same location and it was on paper. I can say for sure it's the same test. Aye cool! I applied for the 3 1/2 year program about a month ago cause I saw the other wasn’t available till the 1st. Planning to switch to the 5 year down the road when I get my foot in the door.
@@erikking377 ayy good luck on the test
Thanks man you too
Thank you for the resources and advice.
I passed!! Thank you for pointing out what they were going to have me take on the test!
taking my test tomorrow! Im really excited to completely ACE The math section, but I am a little nervous on the reading comprehension!
This is scarily accurate to the Australian Apprenticeship, when i went to my RTO/TAFE i did a Pre-Apprenticeship for electrical. and there is a little test beforehand, like an Aptitude test called the LLN, pretty much the same as you guys in Oregon but English first then Maths. cuz australia is tiny there were max only 90 applying for the role, it 2 months for me to get a response, because it kept on being forwarded to yet another company. and Surprisingly the LLN here in australia you get like forever to finish it; four hours maybe??. its crazy
Just what I needed 😤 amazing video!
I'm glad you think so! Thanks for watching! ⚡️
Taking my test tomorrow in kansas!! Thanks for this helpful info!
How did it go?
@@Artecus everyone in our group passed. I only scored an 82 on my interview and the waiting list in Kansas is like 140. I have no prior experience with heights or in the electrical field. Cheers to interviewing again in a year or hoping a ton of spots open up!
Found your channel via a Reddit hole. Currently in CA about to take a test this upcoming Tuesday. Going to study my ass off. Thank you for the tips friend. Much appreciated 🙏🏿
Local 280 Material Handler with Cherry City Electric here - I knew you were a 48 hand as soon as I saw that Stumptown Coffee! Haha thanks for the video brother, testing tomorrow and this was very helpful.

How did it go?
Hey! I actually spoke with one of your local 48 members about becoming an electrician! I'm based in Seattle area and I'm currently studying for my aptitude test at the end of this month. Thanks for posting this guide, it's very helpful!
How’d it go? I test on the 28th! Also in the Seattle area
I was just given a 2 week heads up. Luckily I've only been out of hs for 4 years and was good at math.
Took my test today, i feel good about my exam, i will get my results in 2 weeks
When I took my test, it was all on the computer. So you're not able to underline anything, and you couldn't see the questions all at once. What I did was click through all the questions and then read the passage. I finished the reading in 26 minutes so I had an additional 25 minutes to go over my answers. The passages were about waters special properties, the doppler affect, tea tree oil as a first aid, and the Venus fly trap. The math had graphs with xy tables, sequences, analyzing functions, and "plug and chug" is what I call equations where you have to plug in numbers to find the variable, or manipulate the formula to find a variable (no numbers given)
Weird question but can you give me an example of the “plug and chug” I wanna really pass this test and I’m studying everything I could , thank you!
@@angelramos4760 I highly recommend purchasing iprep, it's $39.99 and it has questions that are very similar to the aptitude test. It gives you 3 simulation math tests and 3 simulated reading tests. You can go through all the example questions on it and it helped me tremendously. Along with iprep I used khan to gain an understanding of the material. The iprep has a free practice tests that's like 5 questions, you can do that a couple times but it's worth the 40 bucks for sure.
That is exactly the same examination I took!
I just passed my aptitude test. Thanks for your video and advice. it helped!
Yeah you did! Congrats!!
Really glad to hear that this video was helpful!
I took the test a couple years ago. I never got a letter in the mail on how I did. I’m sure I failed, 4 years go by and I’m re applying on the 15th. I’m studying right now. I’ve always been good at math I think it was the reading portion I had trouble on. I wish I applied again sooner. This is the career I’ve wanted since I got out of high school. I’m 23 now and sick of my low paying job with very little transferable job skills. I will make sure I pass this time.
Hey Austin! 23 is still very young to get into this trade! It might feel like you should have gotten in sooner to you but you’re actually much younger than most people who get in. Wishing you the best of luck with your aptitude test when you go to take it again! I think it’s great that you’re taking it so seriously. Do everything you can to be the best possible applicant you can be and you’ll have a great shot at making it into the apprenticeship ⚡️
Testing for local 58 in January. Wish me luck!!
Right on Joseph!
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼
Great video! Thanks for going in detail about the test.
This is awesome. I have my test coming soon at Local 48!

@@MadElectrician yes im looking into ibew i have no experience in the field but i will love to become an electrician
Great job thanks for the information
Thanks! And you're very welcome!
@@galielgarcia2679 Seriously. I couldn’t blame anyone but myself but I got an interview and I’m waiting for my results. I’ll know if I’m in or not in a few weeks. I hope you get some good news too bro.
What? I've taken this test twice in two different states nearly 8 years apart and it was basically the test that was described in this video both times? A dexterity test? Visual spatial reasoning? Where are you at? That's wild. If you pass that one they should just let you skip the interview
@@arianaveil bro I got an interview date aswell :,) . I didn’t do as horribly as I thought
@@galielgarcia2679 I got in :))) super happy. I hope you get in as well!!

Great video! Very informative!

Just passed my test today. Got a 5 with a above average in reading and below average in math. As long as you are good at one subject it should outweigh the other.
Great job!
Did you ever get in?
@@aphotodesignco yea I’m in my 2nd year. Getting 16 a hour in Louisiana. It’s kinda rough when you first start but as time goes on, I’m starting to see it get better.
@@tylltolbert8132 okay. I’m worried about the math portion. I’m sure I’ll ace the reading and was hoping that makes up for a bad math score. I’m in California. Going to take a huge paycut to get in. But I can see the opportunities thereafter, so it’s worth it.
This video is super helpful. Hopefully I pass!
I am taking my test tomorrow. Super nervous and scared because I have been cramming and cramming all day hoping for the best to get a high grade. I really need this opportunity to support my daughters and actually get myself into a career I would enjoy.
I take mine on monday, if you could let me know how it goes and what is on it math wise, id greatly appreciate it :) I've been studying!!

@@Jordan_Miller Heck yeah man! It's a opportunity we cannot miss!
@@Jordan_Miller Just took the test. This test was very difficult and they did mention all test aren't the same in each local. I don't think I pass to be honest. My test had variable and graph chart not the actual graph. Lots of decimal questions as well.
Just finished my test and I'm still in shock. I don't know how different it is here in Ontario,Canada, but out of 130 questions there was not a SINGLE math question or reading comprehension question.
I’m from Ontario too! How did you do?
Really appreciate this video man. Have injury or back problems been a big problem for you recently? I've talked to a lot of tradesmen and they say they have injuries just from not exercising and being mindful of the loads they've carried and wanted to know if you've had any medical issues because of being an electrician
Thanks for the video

Mad Electrician thanks! I do have a few questions. Is the test on paper or on a computer? Also are they all multiple choice or just a few of them? I go in this Tuesday morning to take the test. Appreciate it!
No problem. The test is on paper and every question is multiple choice. Nice, in just a few days. Good luck man!
Love the Channel! Just curious, how old were you when you started the apprenticeship?
Taking my test in feb wish me luck👍🏾👍🏾
