Don't let age stop you if you really want to do it. I'm 42, was losing my mind sitting behind a desk all day, so I took the leap and now I'm 6 mths into my 1st yr as an apprentice. I also know a 51 yr old who's going into her 5th yr. I do wish I would've started when I was younger, but I probably would've thrown away the opportunity. Everything happens at the right time. Thanks for the video, very motivating.

@@steve-o5974 that’s very helpful. Thank you for your reply. Last I checked there is a 3 year waiting period to get into an electrician apprenticeship in my area. I live in Orange County, CA. Because the wait is so long, I’m thinking maybe I should consider trade school in the meantime. What do you think? I suppose I could always stop trade school if I get accepted into an apprenticeship. @@Atomic419 It won’t hurt to go to trade school in the mean time m but just make sure you don’t accumulate any unnecessary debt. I have to retake all the classes that I took in trade school as part of my apprenticeship now which sucks. The bright side is I have a leg up and I’m not stressed in the school side of the apprenticeship. I’m Local 11 in Los Angeles, if you don’t mind having to commute (which almost everyone has to do anyway) then you should definitely apply as it is a much bigger local and they take on more apprentices.

Love your videos bro and you helped me a lot getting started. I’m now 15 months in with your help! I need some advice bro, right now I do residential service non union. Would it be better off for me to get my 02 first and then go union or just go now for my 01. Pay wise I know I’d get $40 an hour here in seattle with an 02 license but not sure what’s best in the long run. Also I heard seattle has like 25% of their guys laid off right now, not sure if that’s true

Do you think this will make my journey into tech school tougher or is it more accessible early on?

I applied at age 27 and got into the program at 32. I'm 34 and I'll be 35 as I enter my 3rd year. This career has many paths when you get to become Journeyman.

I live in Quebec, Canada and am interested in trying out a 2 year, 1800 hour program at a trade school. The only downside is the program is in French but I’ve been speaking the language since I was young so I’m not too too worried about the language barrier, but considering I don’t know very much about the subject, would going to the trade school be the best decision for myself?

I’ve basically been hired in an electrical apprenticeship program through Watson Electrical in NC. I take the drug test today and waiting for the background to be completed. The pay is low to start but I’m getting per diem. It’s a NC certified/approved and regulated program. After the 4 year apprenticeship I can enroll in Construction Management Training and become a Foreman, Supervisor, or Superintendent, which is where I’d like to be by the time I turn 50.

With no experience, I know I ranked probably the highest. I also had no info about an aptitude test. Not sure if that comes after the first interview. Now I'm now going to college for a year going into my second semester for my certificate.
    My questions are:
Would a certificate be enough to prove I want this career.
Am I doing the right thing to show that I'm determined to become an electrician?
What else could I do to prove want this career after my certificate?
Am I wasting time going to college for my certificate?

Hi there! I'm highly interested about becoming an electrician when I move to the US this year. I've been looking for all available data about this topic since I'll be starting from zero and my main concern is to know if I going to be able to be financially independent during the time of my apprenticeship, obviously I don't expect to be rich, all I want is to know is if as an apprentices I'm going to be able to pay the bills on time.
I'll be moving to California, which I'm aware that it's the most expensive state to live in the US, so I would also like to know if there is IBEW coverage in California.
