    Failed my test rhe first time by 1 point. That was a steel toe kick to the crotch! Passed it by a mile second time around. Test is all about how well can you navigate the book. Id highly recommend taking a prep class. The instructors know what's coming and know how to prepare you accordingly. Strategy taught to me was when given the test go through it and only answer the basic questions you know off the top of your head. Second time around answer the ones your confident you know exactly where to find the answer. Leave all calculations to the end remember all questions hold the same point value but some can take 1 min some can take 30 mins. Never leave a blank answer. If you have to just guess it can't hurt you. Also take alot of practice test the more your immersed in code the better off you will be.

In the few months leading up to the test I procrastinated studying for the test and at the last minute I rationalized that I wasn’t ready but I’d go take it anyway so I’d be better prepared to pass it on the 2nd try. Much to my surprise I received my letter in the mail saying that I passed. 17 years ago was 2003, the State of Texas TDLR took over jurisdiction from the local cities around that time. If I can remember they grandfathered and issued A bunch of licenses without requiring A test, as long as you had your hours in the trade. Still a lot of licensed electricians in Texas who never tested.

    • @Ephesians-ts8ze
      @Ephesians-ts8ze 3 года назад

      @@TexasCardShark that is true. The stipulation if I remember right was that you could grandfather in as a master if you could account for 20,000 hours working in an unincorporated area. To me it was a slap in the face to every electrician who was ambitious enough to take the masters test. There are lots of so-called master electricians in TX that probably couldn’t pass a journeyman test. I grandfathered based on that I had already taken the test adopted by the TDLR as the state testing agency (formerly known as SBCCI). But with the broad spectrum of professions that the TDLR provides licensing for (electricians, barbers, midwives, auctioneers, massage therapists, etc.) it’s obvious the state licensing program was just a money and power grab

    I've done a lot of technical exams over the years, and I've found that practice exams are one of the most valuable parts of the preparation process. Even from the beginning, when I know that I don't know enough, taking practice exams helps get my head into the wording of the questions and answers.
    Then, as I gain information, it has a framework to fit into.
    Later, as I get closer to ready, taking a variety of practice exams will show me where I'm weak and need more effort.
    I've never failed, although there were a few close calls.
    I'm not a very good student either. But practice works. The coaches that pissed us off as kids weren't wrong.

    Was a challenge but passed. Second in Va in 1980 different but passed. Third in Florida in 2000. Florida has the roughest one in the country. I have been a HVAC/R tech in the Air Force for the last 15 years and I love the trades and doing my own work in my house as I love learning how to do things. My electrical needs upgraded and feel I have the understanding to do it. These videos are helping me ensure when I tackle my project I do it right and not what I think is right. Im glad these videos are here to ensure us home owners that don’t want the extra cost to make sure things are done right and not a hack job. I wish there were videos giving basic information on getting permits and what to expect.

    Man, you are great with all techniques. You put together great study guide for yourself. I only had 2 weeks to learn before my PMMI Industrial electricity 1 test. Test is on Monday with crush course I received from my Apprenticeship. I am freaking out about it. Language in books and language on the test completely off. I wish someone put some kind of short learning practice for it somewhere. Thank you for your video.

    I just came across your channel...you are very knowledgeable in this field. I'm currently starting school for a one year training. Learning massachusetts codes and national codes, circut theory, electrical machine, and electrical safety. I been a industrial maintenance mechanic for 14 years..mostly in the manufacturing machines and systems. I know I will require a minimum of 4 years in the field hands on training under the supervision of a master electrician.. I already have a little bit of knowledge in industrial electrical systems like, motor controls, relays switches, automation, servos motors, plc, ac and dc power, three and two phase. But i know I still have alot more to learn. I can't wait to go for my exam and get my license. I'm also getting 2000 hours of credit. In massachusetts the requirement is 8000 hours before being eligible for state exam. I will be going thru all your contents so I can learn a few things to help me out on this journey..its my dream to become a license electrician. my background is in industrial maintenance mechanic combining that experience with a electrical license, will open alot of new doors and apportunities. Electrician will always be in demand.
    Thanks for making these videos.

    I know some guys that are on their 7th or 8th attempt and they're absolutely dreading the process at this point. Nobody I've met has had the foresight and discipline to look at the test like you are showing here. Everyone seems to look at it like a means to an end, rather than being driven to actually understand what the fuck they're reading.

    IEC in Houston failed me. When i went to "class," all they did was go over homework then the "teacher" would tell us to read a specific chapter. The rest of the class was the teacher BSing with the more outgoing students. That was school. Company's pay for that treatment. You don't get to choose your schedule either. There would be more electricians out there if schooling wasn't a complete hassle or a joke.

    And start on the first weeks review modules before the course starts aswell.

    As a retired industrial electrician after 50 years in England I had to go to college for 4.5 years then after passing both the exam for an electrician and one for an approved electrician,you have to do a further year on site to be paid as an electrician and usually another 2 years before you can become an approved electrician minimum age of 22 years old to become an approved electrician then you would have to be able to control up to 5 electricians and apprentices on that same rate of pay then become a charge hand with higher pay then when engineers think you are capable then move on to become a foreman when you are in total control of a contract with an engineer as your backup then you spend the rest of your working life learning by making mistakes,but I enjoyed most of my 50 years in the industry
