Atleti players are also tactically intelligent, adaptable and always play for the badge.
Things I wish United players have.
Like Llorente has played as a CB,RB,RWB,RW,CM,CF this season for Atleti and always gives 100%
I am surprised United does not buy Atletico player
The guy has started at CB and CF??
@@joachimschmidt7662 he starts in a position but will move to a different position as the game progresses and as subs get made.
Even in the title winning season when Suarez was here, played alot as a CF if Felix or Correa wasn't available
@@DigitalJuggernautgarnacho is actually from Atleticos youth team
El Cholo is the closest thing we have to Sir Alex, funnily enough.
Ive been an Atletico Madrid fan my whole life. Ive seen the way El Cholo has evolved his play, we've had rash segments of experimentation often times having to revert back to the extremely defensive strategy. But this back and forth between ideologies has helped the players, who now understand how to act in both systems. When it comes to atleti and Simeone, you can always see when someone is talking shit without watching the games. Statements disregarding atleticos attacking dispositions are the telltale sign of someone who doesnt know what they are talking about.
Atleti will also often drop a midfielder between the centerbacks (usually Koke or Barrios) in order to add to the width of the midfield.
Although De Paul drops down sometimes to initiate play, he is crucial for his late runs in the box and for his actions around the box. I remember when he was signed originally people deemed him a flop. He was still adapting to the original defensive structure. In Udinese he was often deployed as an extremely advanced midfielder.
Cholo knows that if a player cannot cope with his original defensive structure, they are not worth teaching the attacking flexibility.
They run like I’ve never seen before. They were a man down against Leverkusen and you’d think Leverkusen were a man down. It’s incredible to see, especially at home
Can tell I'm gonna love this already
Ok

Always thought Griezmann was world class. About time he gets his flowers
Great vid Jim!
What are you talking about? He's always been a world class player.
He's a legend now bro, for both France and Atleti
Simeone is not like Pep. He has a limited budget so he plays to the teams strength
limited budget is a reach, they sell well, but they buy big pretty often
He is the sole reason the budget isn’t that tight anymore, got us out of a financial mess with roots all the way back in the 90s
That is utter nonsense. He strategically chooses to play the way his team plays. AM are not a minnow club.
@liamburns8554 it's all relative to competition. They aren't minnows but compared to real madrid and Barcelona they are financially smaller
inzaghi is better he does things better and has negative budget taking old rejects and making them top tier players
Pep letting Alvarez go was such a bad move but one positive is that it’s made things a lot harder for real & Barca.
How is Pep going to force Alvarez to stay when the player wants to leave to be the club's #1 striker elsewhere?
Who the h cares about Man City. We like him at Madrid.
Finally, here is a football pundit who knows something about football!
Production value was high on this one😍
Love your videos on non-english teams. Mostly because there is so much premier league analysis and general content in English speaking part of internet.
Thanks for the good work.
Simeone had a Ted lasso Amsterdam moment
Atletico have never played anti football. They played nice football when they played champions league final and won the league in early Simeone years.. They did everything they could, to beat the best teams, which they werent back in 2014.. They had beautifull and fast transition, counter attacks, some great wingers and attackers upfront and solid passionate defence. They were really similiar to that Mourinho's Chelsea in 2004, 05
They play defensive football him and mourinho
Love the way this team is playing. Team football and unselfish play. Tactically superior.
Simeone’s back and forth with strategy has to do with personnel.
This is not RM, Barsa or City we are taking about.
Most important, he changed the mentality of the club, defensive or not they feel second to none, they are a constant threat to the Big Clubs, and now he put together a team that can also play offense as well as defense.
He understands the larger context and knows how to keep Atlético relevant with le$$
7 trophies, including two Ligas, and two Champion League finals (they deserved, if not both, at least one both times against a stacked-as always-RM) getting the respect they never enjoyed before. Smart coach.
Have to understand Simeone works with what he's got. His best defender last season was Axel Witsel. He's finally got quality reinforcements & can play 4 at the back again. Atleti are doing surprisingly well but they lack quality playmakers which is why they want Alex Baena.
Love how the production value keeps getting better Jim! Whole team is killing it
The editing of this video!! Absoulute Cinema 😮
I've been hitting this 424 on FM for a few seasons now. I'm the OG GOAT!
Yeh, we pretty much do the same sort of thing😂 i coach kids and when we went to 11 aside, i realised i only had 2 defenders! So we go all out attack! Its much more fun. We concede , but score double, a ball playing cb, energetic wb's and 2 clever 10,s, is the key! We're currently top of the table, with the kids just loving it.
Enjoyed the vid! Thanks for the effort and analysis
La Liga has never been this exciting! I'm totally hyped!
Griezman deservedly getting the plaudits. One of the most intelligent footballers of his generation.
Alvarez and Griezman are honestly Aguero Tevez levels. Scary
Amazing 👌🏼💯
So simple yet so effective
Havent watch your video in a while, did the editing and style changed abit? Like it a lot bro, cheers 🥂
Griezmann also scored a fantastic goal this season against Valladolid, you should check it out. His intelligence is not matched by many modern footballers! We are watching him in his 2nd prime!
Also, as an Atletico fan of 15 years, thanks for the video and not slagging off Cholo...!
With Galan, barrios, Gallagher, Sorloth, Griezmann, Alvarez, Llorente, de Paul and the firm g.simeone is at the moment I'd even say he's holding them back. They could devour any team if they are let loose free
Hey there, saw you in last StuntPegg videos. You are famous now. Cheers
I hope they go far this season
*Reads title fast*
Me: Why did he say "someone", that's clearly Simeone😪
As much as I love Simeone at Atleti, I absolutely would want to see him at another club. I imagine Newcastle or Inter Milan would be great fits for him.
Simeone is the dream for me at Newcastle! 🖤🤍
Love Eddie but for whatever reason he leaves sometime in next few years, I’d love Simeone to be out manager!
”I like burgers but I would like to see it with pasta or rice” him and atleti goes hand in hand, he is not like any other modern manager, it’s like talking about Sir Alex managing Barca or Juve back in the days
@GeoDonSamiI think he'd like a stab at the Argentina job before he retires, but yeah.
That was a good one rojiiblancos
Have to disagree on this one. I understand stats don't tell the entire story but Atletico have scored just 35goals in 21 games. xG wise the are at 40. While comparison to big boys Barca(59) and Real(50) might not be fair even if they are competing with them, but they are below villareal and near sides like athletic and celta vigo. These are not numbers of an ultra attacking side.
On the contrary, what we associate with atletico which is stubborn defence and difficult to score against is actually still very true. They have conceded the least amount of goals, actual or xG wise and still think defence first.
I don't think you understand the context of xG because it honestly doesnt have all that much to do with offensive tactics or even succes till certain degree, but mostly quality of shots. If you'd even look at the most prolific scorers of the past years, almost zero of them were actually top 5 or even top 10 in xG.
Basically an offensive team that shoots 15 times per game, could easily have a worse xG than a defensive team that shoots 7 times a game, because xG mostly meassures quality of shots.
Imagine that offensive squad thus shooting 15 times, but rocketing all shots out of the stadium from 25 metres out compared to the defensive squad countering to a 2vs1 vs a keeper 7 times racking up 6-7 goals.
Obviously the defensive countering squad, would have a way higher xG than the offensive squad.
Point being, that Atletico's xG might be nothing spectacular, it says little about their obvious attacking style of play, nor does it decide its succes as well.
What decides their succes, is them winning games and if they're winning, then it's working.
@@HerosenninIn general is it not to be assumed that good teams will take good shots regardless? An attacking team that is equally as good as a defensive team will over the course of a season rack up a higher xG than the defensive team.
I haven’t finished the video so I’m not commenting on anything JLA says but just don’t really understand your logic
@@userunknown3761 I explained basically how you can't assume quality of offense directly by using xG and I honestly do not know how any of I said could be misunderstood.
Inter Milan under Mourinho scored less goals on average than squads they faced in the CL, shot the ball less than squads they faced, werent offensively as good statistically, but still had a higher xG in a lot of these games.
That's because they didnt need an offensive tactic or a lot of chances or goals to record a high xG, because they simply created bigger chances with less opportunities still leading to a higher xG.
So again, no without context xG does not have a lot to do with offensive tactics or succes of said tactic till certain degree.
Yes chances are big Barcelona will have a way better output than Getafe, but once you compare teams to teams closer to their level, it's all context at some point.
I'd say per individual game between teams, xG is a solid measure, but even that changes per game. Vinicius and Madrid probably had a solid xG of chance creation of the left hand side, till they faced City and Walker that season and suddenly that dropped like hell and could be viewed as a flawed offensive tactic. Compare this to them facing Barca that year and it's seen as a solid offensive tactic.
Context matters.
@ Was their xG higher than their opponents or actually high. I mean head to head in any game it’s hard to tell from xG alone who is a more attacking team.
Inter were a very good team defensively so I’m assuming their opponents had low xG on average
@@userunknown3761 Exactly. See how you're looking at context now? That's the entire point I was making. xG only partly tells the story and won't tell you straight away if a team is a good offensive squad.
You need to look at more Inter games. The attacking patterns are almost identical - Simeone and Inter have connections plus Simeone and Inzaghi have had a good close look at each other last season.
Seriously, watch the two teams play next to each other and you'll get where Simeone is coming from.
tiny note, that is not the correct badge for atleti, it was changed for a few years by higher ups as part of the silly modernisation but the badge reverted back, the bear should face the other way and be black, not blue.
on the tactical side, one aspect i think needs to be pointed out is that the way atleti set up when oblak/musso are on the ball is partially as a result that neither of our goalkeepers have decent passing range, they are old fashioned goalkeepers who may not be able to ping a 30 metre pass but will tend to out perform the xGA so the way that atleti play out with long balls tends to have lines that make it very easy for one of two atleti players to attack second balls, turning what look like speculative long balls into turnovers where they can play on the front foot, a normal team would want their players in space that the goalkeepers can pick out so they can take the ball ideally uncontested at first but atleti stand on top of the opponent defenders and make it a 50/50 because they know that the other atletico players are already attracted to the 50/50 to pick up the ball in any direction it goes and this also lessens the need for oblak (whose long passing has gotten better these past two years but he is not ederson). i think it is worth point out as well that the addition of Sorloth does allow atletico to be more old school and have an out and out striker which makes it very difficult for opponents to match up with players who want to drop like Alvarez and Grizou, a pressing monster like Correa and an old fashioned target man who isnt afraid to run in Sorloth.
thank you for covering our club
¡Aupa Atleti!
After watching the video I can say its a great tactical change but I dont think its enough.
Simeone saw Flick coming in and thought "I can do one up you"
and carlo still stubborn
Nice video, but massive problem, you keep using the wrong badge for Atletico
Lovely editing. Atleti has changed its badge though.
They used the updated version at the end of
Yeaaaaah, roar!!! Go Atlético, Go Simeone!!!
I don't see how he is breaking Spanish football. The top 3 teams have all been the madrids and barca. *checks table* Real top. So broken.
We want a video on psg and inter too !
Please use Atleti's current crest 🙏
They did at the end
Looks like a lot of cherry picking from that Barca game. Whoever watched that match saw the Atleti were very lucky to take those three points.
Oh hey look, Alfredo di Stefano is back. and he is french.
Yes, Someone recognises the flaw of teams playing too high and has the perfect foil.
Yeah but still a lot of ppl who are stuck in 2014 will tell you that Atleti plays Anti-football even today, they are like yeah yeah Atleti win only with 1-0. Hate those ppl. Greetings from Serbian Atleti fan 👋🏻
From the game against Barcelona that is definitely not attacking football
It was just put 10 men behind the ball and counter
Griezmann in all euro 2016 tournment lost the ball once: Eder scored from it and won the cup for Portugal
Well, they have only scored 30-odd goals in just over 20 games. Barcelona have scored 60 + and R. Madrid around 50.
I would love to see Simone in the prem, imagine him at a team like Newcastle 😅 give him Sandro, Bruno and isak and he will win everything 😅
Barcelona analysis next video please 😅
Give Griezmann his deserved accolades!
Is this not exactly what Bournemouth are doing? It looks like exactly like what did to my lot at st James.
