- PSG have been the dominant force in French football since 2011 and in Parisian football since the 1970s, but could all of that be about to change?
Through Bernard Arnault, the LVMH Group, and Red Bull, cross-city rivals Paris FC - who are currently chasing promotion to Ligue 1 - recently became the richest non-state-owned club in world football.
In this video, HITC Sevens takes a closer look at Paris FC's multibillion dollar owners, their plans for the Ligue 2 club, and what it might mean for PSG and the future of French football.

I'll tell you what's more eye-opening. It's not the football content at all, it's learning that all these different luxury shops I walk past every day that I thought were competing with each other are actually all owned by the same people, all owned by a company I've never heard of.
Welcome to late-stage neoliberal capitalism. Same is true for real estate, media and all sorts of other sectors.
Illusion of choice
At one point General Motors owned a good chunk of the car industry
Wait until you hear about Bl*ckrock, V*nguard and St*te Street
@@k1llsk. In the US sure. Not sure which company sells/produces the most vehicles, but I’d hazard a guess that it’s Fiat or Volkswagen. I’ll check back good sir with my findings.
France really needs a second big club to rival PSG. People are always talking about the difference between Bayern and the rest of the Bundesliga, but compared to PSG that's nothing.
I mean Lille literally won the league a few years ago, but i get what you mean
It’s always been rotating dominance in France. St Etienne, Lyon, Marseille , PSG. Monaco appears as well.
7 best duos & best players of all time who adapted their game
It'd be much better for them to be taken down a notch than another club becoming dominant
That's what la liga is for
Also a difference is that PSG bought their way to the top, meanwhile Bayern were the best run club in the World for over decades lol
1990s PSG was a top-ranked UEFA club after reaching 6 consecutive european semifinals, 2 finals and winning 1 trophy. Much better than today!
shhhh don't ruin the narrative that PSG didn't exist before 2011.
It's canal+'s fault if PSG became unknown to the average kid since the 2000s tbh, The could have pulled a bayern and bought R9 then Ronaldinho and kept them, alongside anelka, rai and many more, but they didnt want to upset their consumer base...
It doesn’t mean shit. They were not significant enough Ajax was a bigger club in the 90s than PSG and every kid that loves football knows Ajax
@ You totally missed the point. I was comparing PSG then and now.
In the 90s PSG made the CL knockout stages once, where they promptly lost 3-0 to Milan.
As far as Ligue 1 goes, they where runners up a few times and won once, the rest of time the where mid table.
This is absolutely not something to write home about.
Paris FC ultras are pretty much Boulogne Boys(Former PSG ultras) , who were banned from the stands. It will be interesting to see their derby against each other, but I'm pretty sure how it will go. If Paris FC go up, it will be the start of a massive rivalry.
We all want to see Paris FC go up and become the people's club
@@BobbyBruce03 people's club? You obviously didn't watch the video.
Rugby has always been the sport to follow in France in the modern era but it's still mad to think of how little they do well in European football with all the money. I used to rate Marseille & Lyon. Monaco had one good year. Edit: I wrote this comment too soon, great vid.
Monaco played 3 european finals, among other great seasons.
Outside PSG and Monaco who is not french, all other clubs struggle financially.
It is incredibly weird how weak Paris is at football in general. You’d think the capital city of one of the best football nations would have more than one team in their top flight. And even though PSG dominates domestically, they always find a way to mess up in Europe
Compared to Berlin, Paris is a powerhouse.
@@warmikeParis is also about 3-4 times larger than Berlin though. A better comparison would be between Paris and Germanys dense Rhine-Ruhr region, as they have similar populations. And that region has dozens of successful clubs, including Leverkusen and Dortmund, whereas besides some tiny clubs, Paris only has PSG and Paris FC
I’m not disagreeing with you though, Berlin is also a massive underachiever in club football as well. But even they have more top flight clubs anyway.
The club owners all run the clubs with outdated ways in ligue 1, thats why the league as a whole dont gather the same success as other nations

Jurgen Klopp has single-handedly and completely destroyed his former image of a man who said things like "Dortmund is a club not a company", and stressed the importance of passion and human relations in football, with this move to join these corporate vultures and odious sportwashing state ownerships.

Maybe you should consider doing a video about how Celtic and Rangers have dominated the Scottish Premiership in the last 40 years
Why?
@doublejumpvideogames.... because, apparently, Aberdeen was the last side(outside Rangers and Celtic) to lift the title when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge
No one cares about the two bald men fighting over a comb league
Nothing interesting there other than religious lines between two clubs and Sir Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen.
It is interesting how Glasgow's 2 clubs dominate competition and Edinburgh's 2 clubs haven't won a league title since the 60s. Despite Glasgow only being marginally bigger than the capital.

😂 ahaha, that made rolling on the floor
His teeth reflect car headlights.
Thank you for mentioning Red Star 💚 , Racing and the other Parisian football clubs. Long awaited video and amazing work as usual 🌟
London has clubs coming from private initiatives. In France traditionally each city had a city run club, which prevented the multi club per city
As soon as Alfie mentioned them in his last PSG video I knew there would be a Paris fc video soon. The people's channel never fails to deliver. Keep on being you, you Yorkshire beauty, and tell us where to get those cookies!
You are being a bit unfair with PSG achievements prior to the Qatari acquisition. PSG had won 8 coupe de France, won an European trophy in 1996 (and lost in the final the following season against Ronaldo’s Barcelona). They had reached the UCL semi finals in 1995. It was a solid team in the 90´s. It had only been relegated once in the 70’s and ever since never left the first French division. And even in the early 2000’s still managed to get pretty talented players (Ronaldinho, Pauleta, Okocha etc). It was not the greatest club in France but it was no pre 2008 Man city either.
Foreigners often find it hard to understand that Paris was an important club in France long before Qatar. It was probably the 2nd most supported club in the country after Marseille (Paris has since overtaken Marseille).
It will be a great Maghreb derby! Algerians of PSG vs Moroccans of Paris FC

35:38 Alfie Football Manager mention and Diss! I finally feel heard and so alive 😭
I remember back in 2000 when PSG tried to do a team mostly composed of people born in Île-de-France.
Frédéric Déhu, Didier Domi, Éric Rabésandratana, Mickael Madar, Sylvain Distin, Nicolas Anelka
The project was ambitious, but crashed and burned very quickly. Wanting to use the many talents present in the Paris region is one thing, but it's not Football Manager. Such a project will be difficult to pull off
didn't they bought ronaldihno
@tintinxoreki5754 I did say the project crashed and burned quickly for a reason
sure, but surely you can be doing more than PSG are to promote local talent. Ofc almost nobody can make a team of only local players (but Bilbao exists), it can still be a good base, though
Yet France almost won the World Cup with SEVEN Parisians on the pitch.
@@maciejbala477 Oh of course, not denying that
Okay, putting a stadium right next to a stadium whose main tenants play the same sport, in the same league, at the same time, is something the American mind actually cannot comprehend
I mean that would be like in the Jets had a separate stadium right next to Metlife Field.
Teams in the same league might play at the same time.
might, but at least in Spain that is not usually the case. Ex: Espanyol and Barça will sometimes play teams from the same region like sevilla and betis, but one at home and one away. one of the reasons is so to now stretch the police too thin (@@nikibordeaux
It's not though, it might become but for now one is for football (Parc des Princes) and one is for rugby (Jean Bouin).
@league schedules don’t come from the sky. In leagues with shared stadiums (either within the same sport or across multiple sports - or even shared with concert venues) leagues schedule games so that they don’t conflict
It’s not like AC Milan and Inter randomly find themselves both hosting matches in San Siro the same day. Or the Giants and Jets in the NFL. Or Club America and Cruz Azul. Or any of the dozens of other clubs across multiple sports worldwide
'Would make an excellent football manager save, if the game isn't totally dead.'

Well London finally got it's first Champions League title only in 2012. And got only 2 of them in HISTORY. Berlin got Herta Berlin. Zero Champions League titles. Nothing. Rome got ZERO Champions League titles.

As a CS sedan fan, i've never heard of a merger between my club and Paris Fc. And i'm even wondering how could have it been possible because Sedan is 270km away from Paris
right, it also sprung up in my mind that "wait, Sedan is in Paris? I thought it's elsewhere..." while watching the video lol. I guess they wanted a top flight club to merge with?
We’ve seen this before, a smaller French club starts to look as if they can challenge PSG only for it to backfire. I hope this time is different, PSG has seriously ruined the competitiveness of French football
Where and with whom?

Oh, that Football Manager bit hits hard now...
The real richest club in Europe and the world is Newcastle united , however the systemically corrupt PSR regulations in England stop them from actually spending .
PSG is richer. Qatar is willing to spend much more and Paris is a brand. No one knows where Newcastle is on the map.
@exelmans8855 Newcastle is the side that stuffed PSG 5-1 over two legs and no PSG is not wealthier than Newcastle , but PSG do play in an inferior league , again Newcastle can't spend thanks to English PSR restrictions, you football knowledge is poor at best
@ I wouldn’t consider The French league inferior. You talk about a country who played 4 World Cup finals. England? They never won even one euros. Best player in the history of the Premier league? Thierry Henry from Monaco… The French league is not interested in clubs but in young players. Look at the dirty money Chelsea had to spend to won the CL… Where is Abramovitch now?
@@KOERB Because Newcastle has done a fucking shit job at expanding their revenue.
Man City created a giant academy filled with pure profit opportunities.
PSG is in Paris so naturally shirt sales were always going to be high but they then brought in actual sucking star power like Zlatan, Neymar and eventually Messi.
Chelsea has the same as man city, big academy with lots of pure profit sales.
Newcastle on the other hand have done nothing to expand their revenue. Spurs built a new stadium to host NFL as an example, what have Newcastle done? They haven't even applied to host a Europa league final. Who the fuck is buying a Newcastle shirt with Gordon on the back in China or in Canada? I'll tell you what Chinese and Canadians buy, Man city Haaland and PSG Messi shirts.
I mean fuck look at Spurs again as an example. Son wasn't just bought because he was a good player, he made Spurs a much more popular team in South Korea.
Why Newcastle made no attempt to buy someone like Takafusa Kubo, which would basically guarantee high shirt sales and TV viewership in Japan, to instead spunk 40 million on fucking Harvey Barns, yet Newcastle fans still think is 'corruption' is beyond delusional. Sorry

OMG I did NOT expect to see AR Rahman and Rajinikanth in one of Alfie's videos, what a crossover @34:03
I mean this has all the markings of a successful project. He's not under any delusions that he's a genius. Recruiting the young talent PSG neglects is a sound idea and Red Bull involved clubs are usually run well
Now that I live not too far from Red Star's stadium, I understand how important this team is to Saint Ouen, the city which hosts this team. I don't think they'll be strong enough to be in Ligue 1 but at least, a mid table team in second division.
As for Paris FC, I have wished for their takeover by a rich French company for years. Now, it will need time to build something serious. Having Red Bull will help a lot thanks to their involvement in football.
I'm astounded that a country as large as France doesn't have 2 top flight football clubs from the same city when Ireland which is tiny by comparison has clubs from Dublin' Shamrock Rovers' Shelbourne' St Patrick's Athletic' Bohemians and even UCD compete in the top flight of the league of Ireland and even Louth has Drogheda and Dundalk which are less than 30 miles apart have often competed against each other in the top flight
I think it was deliberately done in the past
Alfie explained why that is the case
Day 18 of asking for a video of the 7 greatest lower league players of all time.
Stop the harassment
I mean I think this is a good thing. The only thing I find a shame is that if Paris FC climb the way we expect them to, France going from being dominated by one Paris team to two Paris teams is only marginally better in my opinion. But if they do things the way they say they’ll do them, I think they’ll become a really attractive club for new fans who don’t like the way PSG operate and prefer clubs that prioritize youth development (I know I do). I just hope Lyon, Marseille and even Saint Etienne can pull their fingers out their arses and provide some competition as well.

Was just a matter of time before other super rich people decided to capitalize on the market niché that are parisian football clubs. I wouldn't be surprised if Paris FC is more popular among Parisians than PSG in a decade or two if they pull off their plans. Also, good on you for shedding some light on Arnaut and LVMH, I think many people, especially non-Europeans, aren't aware of their business model. Don't let anybody tell you that you need luxury products, that they're status symbols, that they're the best on the market or even just on par. It's just rich jerks trying to sucker you in.
Would be very surprised. Just because in England everyone likes having 12 different clubs in every city doesn’t mean everyone else works that way. Most casual fans are perfectly fine just supporting their city’s club
@kalmenbarkin5708 I'm not from Paris, so I don't know exactly how the people there are feeling about this. But considering the history between the clubs that Alfie covered, and the fact that success will simply lead to fans, it could happen, especially Paris FC manages to portray themselves as the actual Parisian club, owned, run by French people and focusing on developing young Parisian talent, something that, as far as I know, a number of PSG supporters take issue with in regards to that club lacking those things.
