Way to go Rob, you nailed it. So used to you getting bikes from the mfgs, then returning them. This is a very straight forward review with no strings attached. A Bosch Gen4 motor at this price point is remarkable for the budget minded riders that can finally pull the trigger on a dream bike for themselves. Hope to see this more from other brands.

Great video Rob! It’s really useful and interesting to see these entry-level bike reviews; after a couple of decades away from seriously mountain-biking, this is exactly the sort of bike I would be looking at buying initially. I’m not going to be doing crazy hard stuff but want to get into nature, see the scenery and have a bike that makes that more accessible. A full suspension eMTB at this price really nails that for me. Thanks for the vid! 👍🏻

Brilliant review. Came across it by shere chance. I'm keeping an eagle eye open here in my Spanish retired life for one of these but at the moment, they're rarer than hen's teeth. I'm currently running an Orange Clockwork conversion with Bafang 750w engine and 48v battery (carrying a spare) and Rocky Yaris 130 on the front, Thudbuster seat post, and it's just not suitable for the really high-altitude rocky terrain in this part of the world. The other thing I liked about your video is that I lived in Leatherhead before I moved out here so I recognise those trails. It was really useful to see a test on terrain that I used to ride myself. Well done.

A really big gap in the market has seemingly developed with a race to the top leaving a huge gulf for savvy companies to exploit.
Looks like a great bike for the right customer with a tried and tested linkage design. Personally at this price point I'd prefer an external battery as it results in a bit lighter bike (especially for Al) with better weight distribution and cheaper to also..could have resulted in a better fork at 2700.
Rob does raise a good point in that you can get some named brands that cost 2X the price with a similar spec.
A good second hand fork would be a consideration as 150/160 gives you an expectation of performance. I'd also keep an eye out for deals on something like some Double Down Minions for this style of bike which occasionally show up in sales... nothing worse than poor tyres and it's often a place were costs are saved. IMO there is less of a need for expensive wheels on an Ebike.. they just need to be strong and cheap not light and expensive and so i'd probably not look at upgrading the wheels... just ride em till they break and buy another cheap set IME.
2700 is still a lot but getting that through accounts when other bikes are often in the family car price range is a bit easier. Just remember running costs can be higher than a normal bike but again your better off down the SLX/GX end Vs XTR/XX1 anyway for Ebikes

Nice one Rob! This is a really positive new direction you're steering the channel .... You've obviously sussed that the option to own a top end emtb is pretty much out of reach for the majority of us riders .... I'm not saying we don't dream big but it's great to see you showcasing a more cost effective emtb that we can actually consider buying. It's still a lot of dosh for us paupers to shell out for but your efforts might just help push the door ajar for the major manufacturers to get a glimpse of the real world. Stranger things have happened... Shakkers 🇬🇧

Fantastic entry level piece but you can slowly improve on a few bits and bobs in the spec, better stoppers in time and the fork would need replacing for me but it could probably wait. I've owned a RS 35 on a budget HT and it wasn't brilliant, stiff enough but damping left a lot to be desired. Hats off to Decathlon, they've delivered with their B'twin stuff on road in the past, we need people like them to push the bigger companies into making ebikes accessible.

Finally emtb that is well priced , with decent equipment. I refuse to pay motorbike money for a motorised bicycle , I know some will disagree with me but there is no way that £9000 price for some bicycles can be justified , this bike is priced under 3k how much more should it cost with better suspension , bigger wheels and few minor upgrades to make it high end ?
1500 to 2000 max , if anyone charges more they are ripping you off , but it's your money your choice .
I really like what decathlon did here , the only problem for me is the size
I am 1 size too big for this bike I wish there was a bigger size available ,
Otherwise I would have no problem buying this .

Now there are a fair few great HT emtb’s that can be had for under £2500. I know, I currently ride a Giant (entry level) Fathom E+3 29er which I picked up for £1800. Alas this is a fully stocked full suss and the only other bike that comes anywhere near this much bang for your buck is the Voodoo from Halford (£2900). Anyway Rob needs our collective thanks for bringing this kind of affordable e/MTB to the fore and using his own money to prove a point. Thank you for also leaving out the cheque book attitude which too often accompanies this type of review. Well done mate, you done good. This is the emtb that the people have been waiting for!

    • @johnchristopher5075

The Infidel. You misunderstood what I wrote. My Fathom E+3 is indeed a hardtail. Since I’ve had it, I’ve upgraded the bike somewhat but this managed to keep the entire project well under £2700. I’m a 57 years old fat man, what the hell am I gonna do on a full suss that I can’t do on a HT? And you try finding a full suss 29er in a extra large frame size without parting with a bucket load of money. Like I said the only bike I’ve seen that come anywhere close to the Stilus is the Voodoo full suss from Halfords. Even though it’s still running on 27.5 wheels, it’s XL frame is exactly what it says on the tin, extra large.

Hallelujah, an EMTB the masses can finally afford. Up till now 5k+ bikes have only been attainable for those with plenty of expendable finances. This is a game changer that your average Joe ( or Jane) can stretch to. I expect to see a massive increase in EMTB’s on the trails over the next five years, more people enjoying the outdoors and keeping fit. What is there not to like about this bike. The bigger brands will be forced to rethink their price points if this brand can produce such an amazing high Spec bike for so little money. Bravo Decathlon!

Is the suspension adjustable? Lock out? Damping? Whats the weight? What are the different motor settings? Whats it like to ride not using the motor? I wonder what upgrading to 29 wheels does and if its easy?
Current bike is Giant Anthem X3 29er (100mm travel F & R), mainly riding canal towpaths, sustrans and some minor roads. Nothing severe but some towpaths are bumpy, undulating surface and hard going. Prefer 29 wheels , fat tyres for stony trails

Chainstay lenght has to grow with the size to keep the same balance point through all the sizes. My previous bike had too steep head angle for my liking but had 450mm chainstay which I actually like, my Nicolai/Geometron G1 has 455mm its a large with 525mm reach, I am 181cm. One size fits all does not work on bikes. But there are mor ebrands with not so outdated geo, out there that has e bikes too, but Nicolai if the most aggressive.
