If we want to stay on rhe court, we MUST invest time in the gym. Every 2 houes on court means we should be in the gym 1 hour resistance training. I am a volunteer highschool tennis coach and i bring weights (plates, rings, sled, dumbbells) to the court and make the boys do some resistance training each practice. Just 10-15 minutes. At least to introduce them to these exercises they will need later in life. But getting a little stronger will help with tennis too
@hendrik_jebens I have the boys run a circuit for 15 minutes. 1. Plate carry alley-2-alley (1 round trip, switch hands on the return trip) 2. Plate RDL (5 reps clean form) 3. Plate or dumbbell front squat and combine with overhead press at top of the rep (5 reps) 4. Bodyweight Ring rows (5 reps) 5. Bodyweight Ring pushes (5 reps) 6. Take break, water, get back in the queue for next round 7. Repeat for 5-10 circuits per student And before this circuit I make each boy run sled (2 plates loading) in the court parking lot, 3-5 round-trips about the width of 6-8 parking spaces. I bring a Bluetooth speaker and play music so it does not feel like torture. At first I notice they feel anxious about the exercises but after few days they get comfortable with the movements and enjoy this different challenge and training.
This is a very interesting topic. Because I made gym with free weights before training, I got a tennis elbow. It was simply too much for me. So the combination is not easy and individual. It would be interesting which exercises you recommend for example to get a powerful serve ( like you, obviously, I saw it live in Geneve)
Gonna go more into this topic here soon 🎾💪 additionally I have a serve specific and a fitness specific eBook/Course on my website. Thank you Geneve was a great tournament
I noticed Zverev had some pretty developed shoulders, particularly relative to Humbert in the Paris Masters final. Any idea what you can do to get shoulders (maybe arms) like Zverev?
Would you guys like to know what the best exercises are for a tennis specific workout? 🎾👊
Yes
Squat, bench,deadlift,press, pull…done and done.

This is an amazing approach, thanks for sharing 💪 especially the sled is great to build work capacity

I do light exercise and stretching. Anything intense takes away from training due to fatique. Im a player not a gymnast.
It takes time to build capacity for strength training so good to start light. Over time you get stronger and better if you do both
