West Spanish Peak in Colorado is 13,600 ft. in elevation. That video is being shot from somewhere around 13,000 ft on the ridge approach to the summit. That is a nasty place to wait out a storm. And under a tree ain't a great place to be when lightning strikes around the peak! I remember my hair standing straight up from static electricity on Mt. Yale in the Collegiate Peaks. No lightning had struck anywhere yet, but you get an "uh oh!" feeling that "this is not a good place to be right now!" It scared the pants off me and I started down immediately.
I did wonder what one’s options would be on a mountain like that, besides not at the peak, and not near a taller group of trees (or be the tall tree, a dilemma I’ll never know!) But….is granite a less conductive rock and if you could find a cluster…. Is it better to hunker down, or book it downhill in the open since the whole thing is “high elevation”?!

Poland had been a democratic country at least in 1454, so before Columbus rediscovered America. Our famous constitution titled *Nihil novi" was written in 1505. Poland has a culture of being a democratic country. 1989 was going back to to normal after The West left us for Soviets at the end of WWII
I get very confused regarding what is, or is supposed to be, Poland. It has changed size and shape so many times, over such a long period. Do you feel the current borders are…. I’m not sure of the correct word I should use. Is the population happy with the borders as they stand? Given that some of the post-WWII agreements happened Because Western Europe and the US both knew we couldn’t fight Russia, I have mixed feelings saying the West abandoned Poland, East Germany, and Eastern Europe to Stalin. It had to have felt that way, but I suspect the alternative would’ve been Stalin continuing to march westward. There’s no way he was ever going to come help stop Hitler (a former ally) and not keep what he’d taken control of from Hitler, especially not the part of Germany his soldiers had come through. It would’ve been great if the west could’ve defeated Hitler without Russia stepping in. It was a deal with the devil against the then-currently-worse-devil of Hitler-which seems to happen a lot in politics. Poland’s position between Germany & Russia’s a dangerous place to be. I’m just glad Poland and Germany are working hard to build an alliance that could make both stronger!

A little correction, though: democracy in Poland emerged in the 17th century, but it was interrupted by long periods of foreign occupation. Check Wikipedia.
The 17th-century Polish "democracy" wasn't really a democracy in contemporary terms. Yes, the kings were elected, but only by noblemen (szlachta), a relatively small percentage of the population. And this lot paid attention only to their own interests, not particularly concerned about the nation.

Hard not to see a way out of this that doesn't involve the utter destruction of one side or the other, or both. Someone who knows this way better, please tell me why I'm wrong.
@nervechews6781 - It's true that Europe (well, France) and Russia both have nukes. However, so do India and Pakistan. They fought the Kargil War in the 1990s and neither side used nukes. That shows that just because both sides have nukes doesn't necessarily mean that they will be used. So, there is precedent for conventional war between nuclear-armed opponents.

Peter my man. Going to the tree is kind of the worst option to take when in a thunderstorm. Being in the open, flat on your stomach is the safest option.
Please do not do this!!! Lying flat on your stomach is a terrible option! If lightning strikes nearby and you are flat on your stomach, the electricity will travel through your whole body. That's the worst case scenario! Instead, crouch down with your feet touching (very important). Then hug your legs so that you become sort of a ball. Do NOT put your hands on the ground. By touching your feet together, electricity from a nearby lightning strike can travel along your feet as opposed to up one leg and then down the other. By hugging your legs you shorten the distance the charge travels through you should you really get hit. If you're in a wooded area the biggest danger are falling branches. Look for younger trees and seek shelter there.

He could wait to address it when Biden ultimately loses the election.
Thanks for sharing!
I did wonder what one’s options would be on a mountain like that, besides not at the peak, and not near a taller group of trees (or be the tall tree, a dilemma I’ll never know!)
But….is granite a less conductive rock and if you could find a cluster…. Is it better to hunker down, or book it downhill in the open since the whole thing is “high elevation”?!

Also, Ukraine has significant oil and natural gas deposits that could solve Europe's energy problems. But only if Ukraine keeps the eastern regions that Russia is now occupying.
Why do you think the west wanted Ukraine in NATO. Its because of their natural resources. They would strip it bare to fund the European dream of perfection. That's the whole reason for the war.
Russia will be taking those regions and resources. Putin again recently said on his trip to Vietnam that Russia views the Ukraine issue as an existential threat and will never back down.

The talk of a conventional war between Europe and Russia is perplexing to me. How would this not go nuclear? I guess Russia just thinks nuclear blackmail will work.
Russia has 10x the amount of nukes of "Europe", i.e., NATO minus the US.
