The comments on the battery of the apple pencil and the replacement of the tips are a little misleading. I have been using an apple pencil intensively (like, writing every day for hours) for over 3 years now for work and, in that time, the battery has never been under 80%. I even dare to say that it is almost always above 96%, except in some specific cases that I forgot to put it to charge. The best part of it is that it is designed in a way that it gets out of the way, so you never really have to think about the battery of the pencil. Moreover, only recently I replaced the tip of the pencil and it wasn‘t because of necessity. I just bought 4 tips for 20 bucks, so I guess my next buy will be 12 years from now.

I came here to say this… first about the pencil, I don’t know what kind of Apple Pencil are you using but I’ve had to change the tip once since 2020 and I’m constantly using it. There is no way the battery on the pencil goes down halfway after 10 minutes of use and on top of that it charges super quickly. Additionally the comment about the screen protectors that feel like paper was out of place as well. Sure, it doesn’t actually feel like writing on a piece of paper but it changes the felling by A LOT so saying it’s worthless to buy is simply false. I get that this channel is about e-readers so you want to promote those, but please don’t sell false information. I love this channel but this video disappointed me.

@@vernabailey3671 true. Got a Kindle for reading and is so much better. I’m also not saying that this kindle won’t be good for note taking, maybe even better for some (though the ability to type if necessary will always give iPad an advantage imo) but I just don’t like when someone gives false info in what is supposed to be an informative video.

I don’t like the way this channel replies to the comments. Feels like a bunch of “I know it all/I own the truth”. The person is simply sharing his experience with the Apple pencil, which has a great battery (except perhaps according to the members of your team?). I understand you try to promote the e-ink devices, which I also love to use for reading purposes, but there is no need to spread false information or try to invalidate someone else’s opinion.

This was a great video to show why people get an eink device instead of an iPad and I appreciate that. That said, I am still looking for a video that shows how the scribe does at taking notes. There are tons of videos of the scribe being used for drawing or scribbling or making little happy faces but not taking pages and pages of notes using the lined paper layout. Does it work well? I don't have any sources to let me know.

Great comparison between the Scribe and the iPad Air! I've been using the iPad with the paperfeel screen protector, but have realized that 90% of what I use it for is note taking -- for everything else I use my laptop or iPhone (including reading Kindle books). Having to charge the iPad constantly is a nuisance -- requires me to keep the charger alongside it which adds to the bulk and inconvenience. Based on your review I'm leaning toward getting the Scribe. As a final point of comparison I'll try out the handwriting feel of the Scribe vs the paperfeel protector of the iPad I'm using.

Something to take into accounts multitasking , for taking notes that is very important, the ipad allow to split the screen in two to be able to see the note app and the book at the same time

Different devices for different jobs. I have the scribe and the iPad Pro 11. For reading text I’ll always pick the kindle. If it’s a PDF, comic, magazine I’d pick my iPad. If I just want to take basic notes with no fancy features I’d pick the kindle because it feels more natural.

I was surprised you don't use the Scribe for Manga. It has a large high definition screen with real ink, and since it's from Amazon it should render fast. Also, I keep hearing about "Manga" can you name drop a good one I can check out.

I’ve got too many tablets at the minute (2018 11” Pro and M2 12.9” Pro) and just added a Scribe to my toolset.
I will still use OneNote on my PC or Tablets to store longer term typed or copy pasted notes, links for projects etc.) but I will use the Scribe in meetings, notes that often get discarded, typed up or stored elsewhere once reviewed -something I use Apple Notes for quite a bit with the Pencil.
For some reason, I’ve always loved devices with pen input for meeting notes but type/paste most things that I’ve “collected” throughout the day

For anyone who doesn't own an iPad, I think everything he said about the experience on the iPad was incorrect. It's true that the feeling is not as good as in an e-ink device, but it's not like writing on glass, especially after you are used to it. Second, it is probably because he bought a $10 apple pencil from eBay or Alibaba, otherwise, the apple pencil battery does not go down to 60% after 10 or 20 minutes. That is just pure ignorant of him to say that. And you never need to worry about that, I forgot to stick it to my Ipad and let the battery run down all the time. But the battery will be enough to use after I stick it in my Ipad for like 10 mins. And for writing note, he did not even mention about the ability to share the documents on the Ipad. Next time, you can just put "Please buy a product from our shop" on the video

    • @magnus8168

@haibui9783 „… it‘s not like writing on glass …“ And even if it is, I still don’t understand what is essentially wrong with that. Why are people so fixiated with the paper feeling? E ink devices like this one and the remarkable mention that as if it where a good thing. I question that: writing on the ipad is a nice experience, irrespective of whether it feels like paper or glass, period. The argument of „Is better because it feels like paper“ is not really an argument. Rather, I would accept if people tell me „I like the paper feel“, and thats alright, but these are two different things.

The ipad just has so many more features, the only way for scribe to compete is to perfect itself in what it does well already.

Got the Scribe on a preorder, and I'm sad to say I will be returning it and going for a Boox Note Air 2 Plus. The screen is sharper than any other E-ink device, but other than that it really has no capabilities whatsoever-- the note taking app is as bare bones as can be, and seems designed for jotting down a grocery list and nothing more. Real afterthought.
No email, no access to google drive or dropbox, no apps, nothing at all except Kindle and their low-quality notes app.
If I want to access any of my kindle books, I can use the android app on the Boox.
Clearly designed as a big kindle that you can write on. Not as an actual e-ink tablet.

The finger tool isn’t useless. If you think about accessibility there will be people who can’t easily swipe etc. with their finger, or can’t easily swap between finger and the pen each time….
I don’t mind the ghosting on the eInk note taking devices, especially when you’ve just erased something….in a way it’s more like writing on real paper and using an eraser 😅

    The Scribe is crap.
People should know that only books bought from Amazon's store support note taking. If you side-load your own books, you can throw away the pen - there's no writing function for it.

@@TonyMontana-go2oc Why can't Amazon let users write on their own ebooks like other digital writing pads without uploading thru their server? It's a tedious and slow process.
They are monetizing this by offering this feature in exchange for your info - knowing what books you read. It's a privacy problem that many reviewers overlooked.
Knowing what you read is the same as knowing the websites you visited. These tracking info categorized you into a demographic data that can be sold - it's valuable info knowing what things to sell to you.

@@johnserpo9267 i agree with you. Very annoying. The main reason I could not stand the kindle scribe is because I was constantly being marketed to. The home screen is basically a big advertisement for books you might like- you cant do anything without interacting with sponsored products. Just felt like a black mirror episode or something. Amazon never fails to remind me of how little they care about their customers vs their bottom line.
