M2 iPad Air VS iPad - DON'T BE FOOLED!

- The new iPad Air looks to be a great value with its powerful M2 chip, and cheaper larger screened 12.9 inch sized option, however, it still can't beat the unbeatable value of Apple's regular iPad which is only $350! But just because this iPad is a great value, doesn't mean it for everyone...

I’m actually very surprised that the iPad Pros didn’t get Wi-Fi 7. Kind of a bummer for people have that networking already. It would’ve been a simple way to add an extra differentiation from the Air.
What Apple really needs to do is start the next iPad base model and iPad mini with 128 GB of storage.
Yeah really glad the Air is at 128 now, can you imagine if they did 64 again 💀
It's kinda ridiculous that they're still releasing ipads with 64GB at all. Half of that is used by the OS.
@@GregsGadgets They made allot of wierd decisions. They're still going to sell a s-ton of iPad 10s now though.
Personally... I think the for a base price of $1000, the iPad Pros should come with the pencil.
@@jayvansickle7607 I wish, but Apple knows how much extra money they are making from it. Honestly, Apple should have found a way to lower the prices or keep them the same, but will never do this. Here is my hope:
iPad Pro 11: $799, $899, $1099, $1299
iPad Pro 13: $999, $1099, $1299, $1499
Apple Pencil Pro: $99
Magic Keyboard: $199/$249
Lots of parents use the iPads as baby sitters so the 64gb makes sense. Cheaper with less storage as all they just play RUclips videos for their kids. (Considering the 64gb is lower priced than 128gb)
I know "DON'T BE FOOLED" is a meme for you, but the display sizes being the same between the 10th gen iPad and the iPad Air is something I think a LOT of people could easily be fooled by just by looking at the specs, so thank you for pointing that out!
When dealing with Apple one should assume that they are lying from the very beginning of your dealings.
@@lnugent1000 I don't think Apple tries to be dishonest, but sometimes you have to look past their marketing and see what they're actually saying/not saying. In this case they've chosen to market the iPad Air as 11" (probably for clarity/simplicity) but had already been marketing the base iPad as 10.9" so decided to continue doing that as to not cause confusion.
the new 11inch display is the old 10.9 display indeed😂
I care about the OLED display.
I mean I agree that it is deceiving but let's be honest - nobody is going to choose Air over the regular just for that 0.1 inches screen size difference.
$350 for iPad 10 gets you 64GB, which just isn't enough.
Getting the 256GB version costs $500, and at that point, you're much better spending the extra $100 and getting the iPad Air with M2, Apple Pencil Pro, laminated screen, etc.
Almost like Apple meant to do it lol
Apple does the iPads like this on purpose
It’s quite sadistic and genius at the same time
yes, I think this is where I am. A 10th Gen with 128 is probably the right device for me, but I can't get one so I'm likely to go for the Air
I agree, except for students or if you don't do much. 64 is definitely not enough for a lot of stuff, but if you're exclusively taking notes and viewing lectures, and surfing chrome, 64 will do you fine. Coming from someone who will fill 2TBs os storage easilly with engineering files and programming projects, but can manage wiht the 64gigs on the iPad 9th gen since launch.
Now admittedly, I hate that it is so low, but it wouldn't be the thing that makes me jump to the next tier, ya know?
@@dougkelly8956 the air is better anyways tech wise
I have a M1 and 10 Gen
The 10 Gen is a beast tho too don’t get me wrong haha
in other words, ipad air if you create onlyfans content. regular ipad if you just like to watch.
I… what
😂
You pretty much summerised the whole vid in 2 sentences lol
mans speaking facts like me get the air
Ha! Great summary.
Such a thoughtful and articulate video. Great discussion and comparison on the two models.
Very helpful summary video. Thanks. BTW, what is the battery life like on the 2 devices?
Thanks for the great comparison video! I was unsure of the more subtle differences between the two.
Thanks for this great compassion guide. Air6 is definitely an artists dream and will make digiral art and video edits exciting to do. I cant wait to get mine...plus its my first ipad and step into the apple ecosystem.
For me, the only real advantage the new air has is, future proofing . I don’t want to buy a new iPad every year or two. So, the air should be current or adequate longer.
My son still use my old Air 2 (from 2014). For streaming and browsing it is good in nowdays too.
@@PerillustrisYes, my nephews and brothers still use the air 2 to this day.
I myself still use an air 2. I want a samsung tablet but waiting, however some apps are not working since they need a better ios
Watching this on my very, very capable ninth generation iPad which goes for $250.
Still great iPad
Honestly the 9th Gen is the last of apples old design. Love my 9th Gen. Use it as a family iPad in the house
Got the Ipad 9 also, no reason to upgrade. Use it as the tv in my bedroom and to play simple games.
have the 9th gen as well, the 64gb is a bit of a bummer but i only really use it for school and entertainment so there's barely anything in it (and i also have a 256gb macbook and 128gb phone so it's fine lol)
Apple Event next year
Apple “Now we introduce you the new IPad Air with the M4 chip, better performance, new olded lights, new colors, better cpu “ 😂😂😂💀💀💀
I bought my iPad 10th gen just last March and I use it as my main computer. After constant deliberation between an iPad Air M1, I’ve settled for the iPad 10 only because:
1. My work entails a lot of note-taking, creating presentations, brainstorming, and writing.
2. I don’t find a use case to use Stage Manager on the iPad for now since I mostly open 2-3 apps in which slideover is still sufficient.
3. I have to admit, I really love docking laptops. This is the hardest one. I really want to dock my iPad and use it with an external monitor. Again, I have to remind myself that my work also involves a lot of travel in which I rarely sit on my desk at home.
Love the iPad 10. No regrets on my decision but it is quite a unique niche.
This is my dilemma. i don’t think i actually NEED an air and the 10th will do what i need
How about the gen 1 pen?
@@PuteraIrfan USB-C Apple Pencil is sufficient for me. Don’t get the Gen 1 pen.
Very helpful, thanks. I go for the iPad and a Mac for more demanding task.
Good choice!
Which one would be better for testing applications from Xcode to iPad?
I was actually thinking of the same with iPad pro M2 and new Air but the lack of pro motion display didn’t cut it.
So glad you made this video because I was thinking about buying the Air…
The Air is stil a better machine.
So if I'm editing movies for redtube I should get the M2 iPad Air but if I'm just kicking back on the bus commuting to work watching redtub I should get the regular iPad? Is that correct?
Solid video with just the facts. Kudos!
really great video. I am trying to narrow down the perfect Ipad from (coming from an outdated iPad Air 1Gen) and this is what I was looking for.
Great review - Thanks
What are your thoughts on buying a refurbished M1 iPad Air w/256 gb over the new M2 with 128gb.
I have just purchased the 10.9 inch iPad , I already have an M1 iPad Pro 12.9 and find it a bit big to carry with me all the time, I have older models of iPad too. I had not considered purchasing this iPad as I thought it was well overpriced but now with the price drop it's reasonable. I found your video helpful, thanks👍
Question: So the iPaid Air 13" will it work on the previous Magic Keyboard that was used for iPad Pro 12.9?
The biggest question is how long will the 2018 iPad Pro be supported as I’m not upgrading to a new Air or Pro.
Knowing new iPads were coming out, I still opted to buy a 9th gen with 256GB of storage. I use the iPad as a supplemental device for both work & home. Split screen multitasking is good enough for my usage. Plus, I already had a Smart Keyboard & Apple Pencil. I’m tempted by the regular iPad now at $350, but not sure one processor generation up is worth it.
I agree. I got a 10th gen. Last week because it’s a true complementary device. I just don’t use it enough for me to consider it a productivity device so the 64gb doesn’t bother me. I most stream movies and music on it. No need to spend $800 on an air
Thanks. Good info. I purchased the 11” M2 Air. I am deep into Logic Pro
I have, and love, a 256Gb M1 iPad Air. I’m waiting for WWDC to see if there are iPod OS upgrades coming to justify an upgrade..
Hi Greg, your pace and enunciation is excellent. The analysis of the two iPads was very good. It helped me decide which I will buy, and why! Keep up the good work. Roger of Orlando
For watching TV shows you can get a big TV set for the price of an iPad.
or 3 stadard 10inch tablets :) with 64gb memory the same quality screnn :/
Does the regular iPad support 120 fps gaming?
Small correction here, Logic Pro does run on the iPad 10th Gen, not only on iPads with M series chips.
Appreciate you putting this comparison video together. The differences in USB-C ports and M-chip specific applications/games was something I did NOT pick up just from reading the specs on the Apple website. Kind of BS that Apple thought this was not essential information?!😡
Glad you found it helpful, and yeah these are really big things that can alter the experience.
They were on the website, just search compare iPads and select which iPads you want to compare
Pencil support is the dealbreaker for me. That and my want to move to the 13 inch screen now :)
Should i get the iPad 10 or wait to see if they announce an iPad 11 within the next 3 months
I’m actually upgrading from iPad 10th gen to iPad Air 13 for the extra screen real estate and stage manager. It’s my main computer and I’m so glad to see a 13” device that isn’t $1300.
What should I get if i wanna use ipad as a monitor for my mac?
I’m upgrading from the iPad 7, I need an iPad which would last at least 5-6 years. Ignoring the 64gb bs storage, will the A14 survive till 2029 or should I go with the air with 128gb because I’m not spending 500$ on an iPad 10.
I might have considered the basic iPad 2024 except it won't work with my updated Apple pen. That really is frustrating
should I put screen protector if I chose the nano texture? on the new Ipad pro m4
Another point for iPad is Air better futureproofing with an overpowered M2 chip, needed for future software updates that the base iPad can't do.
Almost the same. These are actually the two best iPads on the market in terms of battery life.
I would have liked a 128 iPad 10 at least
especially the way iPads manage storage (can't clear cache)
what about m2 air vs older m2 pro?
Should I upgrade from the iPad 10 to new Air
never quite understood the case for the Air. for me, it is either going cheap or go pro. used, if budget is a concern.
Great review. I bought the iPad Air 13 as a gift based on the larger screen someone needed. It was the best option/features without the Pro's price point.
I don’t own a iPad. Which would u recommend. I need it for work usage, reading emails, office type work ?
I have iPad Air 3rd generation and just don’t know which one to get. Don’t need as high as the pro and don’t want 13”. I am stuck in the decision. I’ve watched video after video
I got my iPad 10 last night upgrading/rade in 9gen…I love it! I got the usb pencil…thanks for this video! I love it
i have an ipad 6th gen, and wanted to upgrade to a ipad pro for the bigger screen for the past few years, but now that the Air has a big screen version, for cheaper than the pro, its definitely the one i want to get to upgrade. im an artist, and screen size is very important for how much side panels i can have open when drawing. and the new pencil will be nice, especially the barrel roll feature, because i do use shapely paint brushes that need all the control i can get
Procreate on my little 9th gen is torture 💀 I think the m2 air will do just fine
@@JJ_Magnificent hope I can afford it sometime this year. Then I won't have to think about iPads for a while, as I doubt they will release another update like this anytime soon
I’ve bought the iPad Pro 2022 the M2 is more then enough for me I wanted 120Hz and it’s about 25% cheaper then the new pro. I mainly use it for gaming, watching videos and using the Apple Pencil. The display is great and I’m happy with my choice :)
I have the 9th gen, I expect to get at least 3-4 more software updates. I would be shocked if the 10th gen doesn't have at least 5 years of software updates remaining.
How about I pad pro m4 vs I pad air? ( I should wait newly I pad air?)
May you please make review iPad Air 2024 vs last IPad Pro. Because sounds like a good choice go into the last one in bargain
Exactly what I’m interested in
Hi. I'm wondering about how long the older model will receive updates? I'm a view the web, do some banking. I have a mini 4 5hat I can't even read the net app on anymore. I can't afford to buy a new one that often. Any thoughts?
I’m using a 2018 iPad (6th generation) and it still works and receivers updates. I believe an iPad receives 6 years of updates (similarly to an iPhone)
does it support 90fps for gaming?
My 10th gen is on the delivery van as I type this. The price drop clinched it for me. Need to retire my 9.7 2018 so this is a very exciting upgrade for me. My use case is only for watching videos, web browsing and listening to music. I don’t use the pencil at all. Also I have a feeling this model will leave the Airs and Pros in its dust when someone posts the battery drain test.
Im thinking about buying the air for trading stocks. I just want faster refresh times since my laptop is outdated and slow
I have the regular iPad 10 gen, it does everything that I need it for extremely well, so I don’t see any need for the air or the pro, not for what I am using it for.
My wife uses the iPad for RUclips and web browsing. 64 gigs is too small at this point, especially if her Air 3 lasted 5 years and is almost full. Do we get the $499 256 gb iPad or the $599 128 gb Air? I’m leaning towards the cheaper iPad unless someone has a good reason otherwise.
I would go with the regular iPad with that use case. I would only suggest the iPad Air if you planned to play games or do any more demanding activities like video editing
It's easier to fool someone than to convince them that they were fooled.
Yo does anyone know if an iPad Air 5 case will fit the air 6
As a current college student- I really, really enjoyed my transition over from paper and pen hand-written notes to digital hand written notes. I currently use the 2nd gen Apple Pencil between my Air 4 (or 5 I can’t remember it was the gen with the green instead of purple additions) and my 11” pro.
My air is no longer usable and my 11” pro is still good. However, admittedly I have a love/hate relationship with the 2nd Apple Pencil cuz of the tap feature. I keep tapping- double, triple or quadruple tapping it cuz my brain goes haywire.
If my current iPad blew up right now, I’m not sure which IPad I would choose. The regular 10.9” absolutely can do the job and do it well. However I would love more real estate to write, but that’s even more money. Hmmm
Do you think bigger screen will enhance your overall note taking experience? I’m torn between 10th gen 64gb and m1 iPad Pro 12.9 inch 128gb.
Good information
Please do iPad Pro m2 vs IPad Air M2!!!
🤔
120HZ refresh rate display, that’s the only difference that the M2 iPad Pro has over the iPad Air with M2.
Plus the M2 Pro has face id, better mic & speakers, ultra wide& TrueDepth camera and Thunderbolt/Usb 4support…
just get the m2 pro if u can find it for around the same price lol, it's better. Otherwise just get the Air.
@@Prxavi and by 12.9 models MiniLed makes a big difference
You did not talk about battery life of each iPad
How long with one full charge it works
I’m really mad because I use iPads for procreate and dreams specifically and the 12.9 pro I JUST bought is already marked obsolete for the new pencil (the only new product I actually wanted) so now I have to figure out if the new air is better or if I need to spend the same money I just spent to get the new pro
Damn that sucks, how long ago did you buy the iPad? There might be a chance you can return it if you bought it somewhat recently
@@GregsGadgets grabbed it march of last year, which funnily enough the same thing happened THAT year when I bought a prior iPad Pro, then was told that the m2 version would work with the new Apple Pencil function, so I grabbed it right then, silly me 🫣

Can you please do a video on Gaming
As in best way to get games on to iPad AAA games.
Best controllers , cloud gaming all the info to get the best experience on iPads especially pro’s

I have never used an iPad i know the 2 options shown in this video are great but i am so tempted to buy the 13 inch air.
Tysm!
Comparing my M1 12.9” iPad Pro to the current 13” Air they are so similar that it’s worth considering just for that.
I have the iPad 10th generation. It works for my daily use. I do normal every day activities, plus it was a $100 off of list price.
im still using my ipad air 4 which is basically the ipad 10th gen but with the magnetic apple pencil capabilities… trust me it’s more than good enough for most people, unless you’re a digital creator or someone who needs more power/is going to get the pencil pro, just get the 10th gen.
Bought an Ipad 10 - 64gb for 349 today. I will post a review video soon. My primary use is for school/university taking notes etc... no fancy stuff
Update ?
Please iwould want you to help me buy a pre owned M1 ipad with a budget of 200usd. Please is it possible
I am torn between iPad 256GB it’s £479 on Amazon and iPad Air 11inch which is £599 I’m leaning towards iPad 256GB but not sure if I can magnetically attach USB-C Apple Pencil to it or not. It’s money as well I’m not wanting to spend a massive amount of money on a new iPad.
One thing few people say about iPad Air 13 and Pro 12.9 is the screen proportion. Since it is more squared-shape when you watch RUclips videos you lose a lot of screen area forcing it to be empty on the top and at the bottom. I have both of these iPads here and the video size is not that different. So you think you are buying a larger screen but it is almost the same. It is hard to defend the new iPad Air: no promotion, no support to the new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro, uses M2 instead of M3, it is heavier. The main problem with the regular iPad is operating system support; at this point you already lost almost half of its upgradability
I personally ordered the iPad Air w/M2, 128gb cellular.
Yes they dropped the price on the iPad.
But for me, I’m taking into consideration that it’s an A14 chip, which will be great for awhile, but then when the device gets to a point to where it won’t take updates because of the outdated chip and storage, and then it will be only a matter of time before Apple puts it on the end-of-life list because they will make software updates for it, it just won’t be the same ones that every other updated iPad with an M-series chip gets.
Still a worthy iPad to get for new 1st time iPad owners and for people who are on a budget or a startup business who don’t want the mini, (or business in general), even for schools, that this iPad is catered for.
Bottom line is, whatever YOUR needs are for, as they say..
“There is an iPad for everyone”!
Happy shopping everyone.👍🏼
I have been using iPad 10 for 7 month now and to be honest overall it’s really good, I use it for studying and note taking, the only negative I felt was that sometimes when I am writing notes the screen lags a bit, and the storage problem since I am using the 64 gb version.
Other than that it’s pretty good
Do you find 64gb tends to be insufficient sometime? Do you recommend more storage?
@@colin6711I definitely would! My nephew’s old iPad 8th Generation was only 32gb which was way too little so it glitched a lot due to the low storage and it was getting a bit old. The battery was dying too. Therefore, I got the air 5 with 256gb as even 64gb would not be enough.
How long ipad will last
I did happen to pick up an iPad Air for $350 (open box from Best Buy but it was practically new)
Logic is supported on the iPad 10th gen, just not Final Cut
Oh wow you’re right, big mistake on my end. Sorry about that!
One thing i would be most worried about buying an iPad without air ore pro would be the time of software support.

Hey, overall great review really helpful. The one problem with this review, and with most reviews I watch, is that it doesn’t take into consideration people who want to keep their iPad for a long time. For example, I have been using my 2017 iPad Pro, for well, about six years. If I had bought the regular iPad six years ago, I would’ve had to upgrade at least a couple years ago. Again, this is something Reviewers seem to never take into account! Please consider that some people might want to get a higher and iPad so they do not have to replace it in three years.
Why would you have to upgrade after a shorter time? What features were missing?
@@brachiator1 it just basically doesnt perform very well and it might also be a storage problem
I have the 9th gen Ipad, still gets updates....Don't know what you are talking about with having to replace a basic Ipad in 3 years.
Not all base model users will update their iPad with every new release.. actually most of them have been using theirs for years and years.. For example, I have an 2018 iPad (6th generation) and it still gets updates and works fine.. And I will only get a new iPad once this one doesn’t receive updates anymore.
@@heartlanddreamer95 Do iPads get 7 years of updates?

I plan to get the iPad Air 12.9" 512 GB version. Reason: I have a lot of ebooks and music I'd like to store on the device locally.
I have the iPad Air 5th Generation. I use it for basic tasks, and it's great for traveling. I think Apple could make iPads more affordable for people, offer a higher amount of base-level storage, and charge less for memory upgrades.
This is the one I was looking at before these new ones came out.

@@startsomewhere1 They have it listed on Amazon right now for $399.99.
Yes, I got the air 5 for my nephews shortly the 6th came out and they love it.
The issue with the iPad is not the hardware, but the software. As long as the smallest iPad and the maxed out iPad Pro share the same crippled iPad OS, it doesn‘t really matter what you choose. You still can‘t replace a laptop.
This. They need to spin the Pro out to the Mac team. Kill the iPad Pro and make a new MacBook Touch.
It’s crazy
I ordered a yellow iPad at $499... is prices different there? I'm in BC Canada
And that the 64 gb I ordere
Air is not a good product in the lineup. Basically just upcharge options you can’t do on regular iPad.
Third option: I've got my eye out for sale prices on the iPad Air 5.
Not a bad idea at all.
Don't know about the US, but here in the UK it's easy to find sealed, brand new iPad Air models on eBay. I wouldn't say they are much cheaper, but it may make sense if someone wants the M1 in blue as it's blue seems a bit darker. :)
The air 5 is mush better! It’s compatible with Apple Pencil 2, PRO, and USBC. Also compatible with both keyboards. Unlike the air 6, such a downgrade
@@GregsGadgets They're on sale at Walmart for $399US. Mine is in the mail.
@@2tired2sleep2 Unfortunately, that's not true. Apple Pencil Pro is only compatible with the new iPad Pro (7th gen.) and new iPad Air (6th gen.). The new Magic Keyboard is only compatible with the new iPad Pro models (11" and 13" screens).
If you buy the iPad Air you can use the 2nd gen. Apple Pencil and the Pencil USB-C. Both are great options depending on what you want to use it for.
Great video Greg.
But I think there’s something people have to consider: accessories. Or more likely, accessory availability and compatibility. Getting the cheapest, at least with Apple, means less options and less compatibility with more capable accessories. This happens a lot; you look at the options for the iPad you have, then see the more alluring accessory, get excited….only to learn it isn’t compatible with your model. Further research finds that your iPad is on the lower end. I know you covered this a little bit here, just thought I’d expand on on it. Hope I added something to the conversation.
I’m going for the m2 air compatible with old Magic Keyboard because the new pro has to get the new keyboard! Now I just need a new pencil
Great video
Which iPad will be great for gaming like codm, pubg etc
Air or Pro because much faster M chips and also because you need 128 GB storage for AAA title games.
How long do iPads get updates? The 10th gen is from 2022… if it stops getting iOS updates next year it’s not worth it.
Generally an iPad receives updates for 6 years.. I still use an iPad (6th generation) from 2018 and still receives updates :)
I am purchasing the iPad Pro 11 256GB. I traded in my iPad Pro 11 M2 and received a $470 credit. I purchased with college discount at $899. Initial payment was $85 and $35 for 12 months no interest on Applecard.
I wish we had better more vibrant color options for the air models
Why?
thanks man
Can you do iPad Pro m2 vs m4?
I need a comparison btw the new ipad air m2 and the OLD ipad pro m2
The problem is, if you get the normal ipad and you find the 64gb way too low, you have your get the 256gb one and if you get that one you could also just get the air one cause the price difference isnt big
Great video. I would add that “futureproofing” is missing though. The m2 will run amazing for years to come, will support AI features etc.. meanwhile the days of the A14are counted.
