But practically speaking, there are some very meaningful but subtle differences that make them quite different. So let’s find out which one is a better fit for what you need - and this ended up going in a different direction than I expected. And by the way, if you live outside of the US, let me know where you’re from and what the prices are where you live, because I know a lot of times, there is a huge discrepancy in the prices.

I just saw everyone talking about the new pink iPad on TikTok and was kinda upset because I had just gotten the Air 5 2 months ago and I thought I should’ve waiting for the 10. Now seeing the comparisons, I’m happy about my purchase and it’s just the color pink people are hyping up about.

storage is very cheap, super cheap nowadays. And they still charge hundreds for just the storage upgrade lolz
Apple is a complete scam all around. They hook you with nice first impressions and software and then fck you over with laughably overpriced hardware (whose lack of repairability and the economical and ecological damage it does is broadly know at this point) and making it hard to leave their eco system.
Here in Canada, the wifi model is $599 CAD for 64GB, and $799 in 256GB. I got the 256GB wifi model with education pricing so it’s $759, and the pencil 1st gen is $115 in education pricing as well! It’s a really good deal considering the 256GB Air 5 costs a thousand. Only needed an iPad for note taking, reading sheet music, occasional media consumption and gaming so I think the 10th gen is a great deal.
This is how I'm leaning. I have a setup that will ensure I won't have an issue charging the Apple Pencil 1st gen, I like the balance between specs and storage at $799 CDN, and (while it's not a primary factor, it makes me happy) I'm in love with the bright colors for this line. It's two chips above what Honkai Star Rail (the main game I'll be playing on it when it releases later this year) has listed for iOS mobile, it's gonna be a great size for working in procreate, and it'll be ideal for digital journaling and planning. I'm not buying for a few more weeks, but when I weigh out the pros and cons, this generally seems like My best bet. Could totally be different for others, though.
I feel like Apple made their lineup so the air 5 can upscale people to buy that instead of the ipad 10, and the iPad Pro is to upscale people who are buying the air 5
Here in Indonesia, starting at 64gb at online stores, iPad 10 costs 550 USD, air 5 costs 590 USD while air 4 apple refurbished costs 470 USD (last month I bought it for 440 USD). It will never make any sense here as to why anyone would go for the 10 :/
yeah dude, that's why I wanted to buy the air 4 back in Indonesia rather than buying here in Hungary, it costs like 840 USD for the air 4 🥲🥲
In Colombia where I am located it cost $560 USD...now I feel much better thinking that on the opposite part of the world cost pretty much the same...I was thinking that here we were getting scammed.

In the UK, the iPad 10 starts at £499 and the iPad air 5 starts at £669 so about the same difference in price

In my country, Portugal, according to the apple website, the ipad 10th gen stars at 599€ and the iPad Air stars at 799€. But in tech stores like best buy you can find the iPad Air for 649€, so it’s hard to justify the ipad 10th gen
One other difference I have noticed is that when sharing screen zoom meetings and writing on the screen...the m1 handles it well...where as any lesser apple chips tend to stop sharing or get interrupted

here in uae, when i checked amazon, ipad 10 costed 352 us dollars and for the ipad air 5, it costed 542 us dollars

Both iPads are painfully indentical, but the air 5 has 2nd gen apple pencil compatibility, and those 3 things on the back, but the 10 gen ipad has them on the side, and is only compatible with 1st gen apple pencil.
I was finally able to afford for an iPad Air 4 but then they discontinued it for the iPad 10. Now I'm saving up for an iPad Air 5.
I draw on the iPad 10th, design, read and play games on Apple Arcade as well. The processor is very capable… the screen gap or the “lamination isn’t at all noticeable, unless you’re looking for it, I actually prefer the 1st gen pencil because it doesn’t have those touch controls, I hate them, and honestly the only irritating thing I faced is that apple just won’t let you download something like Final Cut Pro or assassin’s creed mirage unless you have an m1 device. I’m sure they would’ve run fine too. Also the charging situation of the Apple Pencil isn’t ideal, but quite ok and manageable tbh. A small price to pay for not changing into the eraser all Willy nilly with those pesky touch controls.

Apple product prices in Greece are INSANE. The 10th gen starts at almost 650€ and the air at 750€. I just bought the air, but from the US. I know in some regions they're even more expensive, which makes this pricing situation even worse.

Look if you're using it for general use like note making drawing or surfing 10 is enough but for more professional work like video editing and animation go with air

I don’t know how to describe this but do NOT buy the iPad 10 as an easy way out as it’s less expensive and have it as your substitute for what you originally wanted, the Air 5. I feel like a lot of people will be very satisfied with the 10. I’ve owned one for 6 months in the 64GB Yellow version. But if you use the apple pencil and keyboard a lot I really wouldn’t bother… I use the Magic Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil with it and I hate the kickstand of the keyboard as I can never get an adequate angle with it and if you wanna work from the comfort or your bed it is extremely cumbersome and unstable in my own experience, and the lack of ability to store the pencil is a game changer for me when i’m spending £499 on the tablet alone. I’ve also found my battery life personally to be poorer than my 3 year old iPad 8th Gen. Also with the keyboard case, not having the ability to use proper external display support and stage manager is also a major con for me.
My pros are the amazing palette of colours, the performance of the A15 and 4GB of RAM and the landscape camera… that landscape is A BLESSING for facetime and i’ll be so sad to let it go.
You’ll KNOW if you want or need the Air 5. And i’ve now realised that down the line and am choosing to sell up and buy the Air 5.
Please be careful with your money and do an extra bit of saving if you are going to need it.

I got the ipad 10 for 400 and don't use a pencil so it was a great deal to me. I you use the pencil and looking for a laptop replacement go air all day. My ipad 10 has a keyboard and case for 40 bucks and its awesome. I use facetime a lot and the camera has been worth it alone almost haha

I have the M1 MacBook Air, and in Singapore, it costs (from the Apple Store) S$1449. The M2 MBA costs S$1699. I believe the iPad 10 is intended to compete with the Microsoft Surface, or entice buyers who might have wanted a MS Surface.
A Surface Go 3 (8gb RAM, 128 GB SSD) would be S$989. You have a choice of keyboards (S$138 or S$188) with a built-in trackpad. Total (with the S$138 keyboard) is S$1127. A lower-spec version (Pentium 6500Y) with keyboard would be S$1037
Which is cheaper than the M1 MBA (tho I would say the the M1MBA is BETTER).
Even a refurbished M1MBA from the Apple Store costs S$1229. The Surface Go 3 would still be more affordable. (If price is a major consideration.)
A base model iPad 10 costs S$679. The Magic Keyboard Folio costs S$379. Together, the package costs S$1058. And like the Surface, you can detach the keyboard, and just use it as a tablet. The Surface Go has a larger storage (128 gb), tho, if that is a consideration.

Yes. the iPad 10 has rather limited storage - only 64 gb. Apple would like you to get iCloud storage. Or if you prefer, it has 256 gb option (S$909), for a total (with keyboard) of S$1288. In which case, you may want to consider a refurbished M1 MBA (S$1229, 256 gb storage).
The iPad Air base model costs S$879 - S$200 more than the iPad 10. The Keyboard for the iPad Air costs S$449. For a total bundle costs of S$1328. More than a refurbished M1 MBA, tho less than a new M1 MBA. But the iPad Air base model only has 64 gb storage.
The iPad 10 may be the new entry-level Mac for the budget conscious.
I was debating on the iPad 10th gen because it's cheaper; but I will definitely go for the iPad Air 5 since I like smooth graphics with gaming and such. And I want to go back to school, so charging the pen on the side is less hassle. Thanks for making this video. 👏🏻

I have to come show some love for the iPad 10! I have been loving it, I am a law student and it came just in time while I am prepping for finals. My experience has been great, no complaints! It is responsive, big screen, bright colors, and so fun to use to take notes on... Seamless connection between Outlook on my Mac and on my iPad. My fiend got the ipad air 5th and we study together really i have not noticed any major difference for our purposes at least :)

@@june8658 If you're going to buy an iPad to play games, you're better off buying a gaming PC or a video game. Anyone who buys a tablet with the intention of playing has negative qi, as it was not developed for that purpose. We bought it with the intention of studying and drawing as a hobby. Those who need it for professional use have already bought the PRO, not the Air. So no, it doesn't make any difference in everyday life.
I think apple created this iPad 10 so that people will buy iPad air 5...since it's still a better choice~
i mean, even the air 4 is still a better choice, making the ipad 10 still not compatible with apple pencil gen 2 is just plain stupid imo

Sadly even the iPad air 4 is a better deal because you can get an Apple refurbished one for even less with better screen and 2nd generation pencil support.
One of the biggest buyers of the base iPad is schools. The choices here are geared towards them. A non-laminated display is ideal since kids break screens all the time. Repairing a non-laminated display involves just replacing the glass. A broken laminated display means the entire display needs to be replaced, so it’s a huge money saver. Schools also have tons of Apple Pencil 1’s, so it saves them from having to buy new Pencils.
The Pencil 2 couldn’t be used anyway since the camera blocks where a charger would go. That Pencil 2 will likely be discontinued when Apple updates the Pros next time around with a new Apple Pencil 3 and the other iPads are updated for the landscape camera. People on RUclips tend to be Pro users, so this iPad is not for us. Using the Pencil 1 isn’t ideal for us, but for upgraders from prior base iPads who already own a Pencil 1, this is another cost savings.
Schools also can’t buy refurbished products, either, since support is mandatory. The Air 4 is out as an option for them.
Im a student too and I purchased iPad 10 , really you dont need an upgrade to iPad air 5 , as a student u dont need much, and iPad 10 provides everything u need and it gives actually a very great experience. I dont understand the hype for iPad air 5, why spend so much money on something which is only slightly different and pretty similar to something much cheaper and affordable
Also regarding Apple 2nd gen Pencil, you can find third party pens compatible with all iPads in general and save money , and the difference between them and an original one is not visible

Currently here in Australia the iPad 10 256g is $997, Air 5 256g is $1157 and the 11 inch iPad Pro 256g is $1199. Makes it hard to justify the iPad 10. The Apple Pencil 2nd gen is $219.
In NZ the ipad 10 and air 5 are the same price (1199 for 64gb air, and 256gb 10) I thought the regular ipad was supposed to be the affordable option 😅

@@teaforthesoul You're comparing 64 gb to 256 gb, which defeats the point. It's the same deal roughly here in Canada. 10 w/ 64 is $600, 10 with 256 or Air 5 with 64 is $800, Air 5 with 256 gb is $1,000. All of these are pre-tax, which is 13% here in Ontario. Then you may need to add $130 or $165 if you want Apple Pencil or Apple Pencil 2.
Well, Aussie & Nz dollars pretty much sucks for the value so I suppose its more or less the same price like the states plus maybe with way more sales tax added to it.
iPad 10 is 380€ here and air 5 is 530€ (and that’s a deal already; more 600 standard retail) here; such a massive price difference that the iPad 10 is definitely the better choice for me personally.
So I do have to disagree with the video description: Air is not worth paying 150-200€+ more. That is a ton of money.

I went with the iPad 10. I have the first generation of Apple Pencil. I would have not only spent $100 more but I would have needed the new Apple Pencil for $130. The differences in chip and other things make little difference to me as an illustrator and RUclips watcher. Especially when considering the 10th generation is a huge upgrade from my 6th generation iPad 😅

@@himkaay I do illustrate. Personally, I went with the 10 option because I already had the Apple Pencil to go with it. It was also more affordable at the time. If you want to save some money and have the first gen Apple Pencil I would go with that. If you’re needing to buy an Apple Pencil I would probably save up and get whatever iPad would work with the new Apple Pencil and get the newer Apple Pencil, simply because I’m not sure how much longer the first gen will be good for. I think the later generation of Apple pencil will be supported longer.
OML we are in exactly the same situation!! I’m a college student and I have the 6th generation iPad and a knockoff version of the Apple Pencil (it cost like 6€ and it works SUPER well, very happy) and I am torn between the 10th gen and the air 5… but I think imma go with the 10th generation since it’s cheaper and I would be able to get the 256 Gb version! Meaning it would last me a LONG time before I have to get a new one :)) considering how well this one is holding on!
This is the type of comment I’ve been looking for 😂 , I’ve got an iPad Pro from 2017 so both iPads on the video would be an upgrade for me but to get the air it’ll be an extra £400+ after buying the 2nd gen pen and the difference in price, I’ve already got a Wacom graphics tablet so I just need something that can still use procreate and has a better battery because currently my iPad has to be attached to the charger at all times
I literally just bought the iPad Air 5 on the fly because I needed a tablet and when I was looking last year, I was torn between it and the Pro. The thing that really got me was the fact it uses Touch ID, which is something I've missed in the newer iPhones (I don't like Face ID). I appreciate the way you did the breakdown; it was easy to understand, objective, and I feel like I can tell I made the right choice for myself. I also was planning to use it for art and notes, so finding out that it's better for the pencil usage is also a bonus.
Here in Greece, the iPad 10th gen costs 630€ (equivalent to 626.25 USD) for the base 64GB model, while the iPad Air 5 can now be found for 700€. And let’s be honest, the iPad 10 by its own is not at all worth 630€, so this pricing really gets wonky. I’m still saving up for an Air.

Ψάχνω εδώ κι ένα μήνα πιο τάμπλετ να αγοράσω. Το θέλω κυρίως για ζωγραφική αλλά δεν ξέρω αν αξίζει δεδομένου του κόστους και των περιορισμών που έχει. Πάντως σκέφτομαι να πάρω είτε το iPad 9th Gen 256 GB, είτε το mini 6 64 GB. Και τα δύο τα βρήκα στο Skroutz με 550 ευρώ περίπου + η γραφίδα που κάνει γύρω στα 100-130. Αξίζει πιστεύεις;

I have also similar prices in austria here, but the iPad 10 with 256GB for 730€ or the Air 5 64GB for 650€ (or as "cheapest" option the base iPad 10 für 540€)
But ANY Air 5 is hard to get actually, most are out of stock. Also, there is no way besides ordering directly at apple to get hands on a Pencil 1 or 2.

I just need it for drawing so im still leaning towards the Air for the better screen without the big gap between glass and LCD panel. today, 5th may 2024, Ipad 10 is being sold for $359 in india and Ipad air 5 is for $580. These are the base version non gps prices.
iPad 10 starts at 691 USD in my country Norway. When I saw that, I was quick to oder the Air 5 at the old price. I was the last one who got it from that net-store. 2 minutes later it was nowhere to be found at the old price. Pleased with that decision 😊
I'd love to buy an iPad Air but I really want the landscape-oriented camera because I have many video calls and the portrait mode camera just won't cut it. Too bad, so sad.
In India, Ipad 10 is going for 45k and Ipad air 5 for 60k (INR). So the difference is approx USD 185. Ipad 10 sounds better with a 33% higher price of Ipad Air 5

Here in Singapore the iPad 10 costs $449 for 64GB and $599 for 256GB; and the iPadAir 5 costs $879 for 64GB and $1099 for 256GB. I got iPad Air 5 at $1029 at Education pricing, loving it so far but occasionally experiencing touchscreen lag which is quite annoying :(

In the Philippines exactly if u want the cheap iPad 10th Generation it will cost ₱29,990 equivalent to $449. And if you want the Cheap iPad Air it will cost ₱39,990 equivalent to $599.
I really like the new camera placement on the iPad 10 but it's probably the reason for the goofy setup with the pencil. In my mind that's not a worthwhile tradeoff so I agree with you, the iPad Air 5 is the better choice, even at the full US retail price (the discounted price makes it a no brainer).

Here in Brazil, there's a considerable price difference. Its almost 1000 reais of difference (around 200 dollars). Seriously, taxes here are pretty heavy. That's why I'm considering getting the Ipad 10, even if I really want the air so freaking bad
I bought Ipad Air back in September and it cost me the exactly the same as Ipad 10th gen (449$) after education discount and back to school gift card Lol. Ipad 10th gen is totally not worth it at that price.

honestly i think the ipad 10 is just fine for my purposes, i'm a student and i mostly take notes, study, watch videos, or draw on procreate and i already have a first gen pencil so even less money to spend

I think the Ipad Air looks great, but I don't like that the base model only offers 64GB, and you can only upgrade to 256GB... by that point, you're close to paying for an Ipad Pro...
Regarding the laminated display, you don't notice how good it is until you use it. Then it's hard to go back to non-laminated! Just upgraded my wife's iPad 9 to the Air 5 (on sale for $450 before $185 trade-in). Now she's future-proofed, has a great display and will still be better than the iPad 11 coming out next month for the same money it will cost at launch.
I'm choosing between Ipad 10th gen 256GB or Ipad air 5th gen 64GB I will use my ipad for school purposes such as note taking, e-books and ofc watching movies and netflix and at least 1 or 2 game, any recommendations?
