I bought my Samsung in August 2021 and it uses this filter cartridge. Having never changed the filter, i just left it in there. Getting water can be on the slow side as the flow rate is somewhat diminished on the old cartridge, and ice production seems to be wanting too. According to the instruction manual i need to cut off the water supply before changing the cartridge. So, just now i turned off the water, removed the cartridge and slowly turned the water back on. Imagine my surprise when no water came gushing out of the filter port. Not only that, buy now a cup of water is fallible in seconds rather than a whole minute. I have doubts the ice production will pick up but Summer is nearly over. Side note: my water dispenser was automatically cutting of after dispensing 16 oz. the into my 28 oz mug. I would have to reset my mug onto the trigger switch to continue filling. Now, the mug fills right up with no resetting needed. Thanks for the video.
I found the ice machine is good for a party of two or three then I have to wait for it to make more, luckily there only two of us and we party less. Congrats on removing the old clogged up filter. The flow is faster and the water cleaner since the gunky filter is gone. Be aware you may still get reminders to change the missing filter. I just reset the reminder and am good for several months. I just got a new Samsung refrigerator and I was looking to bypass my filter as it is fed with an RO System and it seems to feel kind of slowly especially compared to the RO tap at the sink. Thanks for your video. Sure enough I remove the filter and the water still works! I assumed it would just shut off when I remove the filter and the water wouldn't go anywhere, I didn't think it actually bypassed the port. I tried it with and without the filter and it doesn't seem to make much difference. According to the manual you're supposed to be able to fill up a standard paper cup of just under six oz in 10 seconds, I get about 4 oz. I also get white ice which the manual says is the effect of pressure changes on the water while it's going through the filter. This reminds me of the white bad ice my parents used to make with their hard water growing up. I was quite surprised that they charge $50 for these filters, I understand the need for a filter if you're just on unknown well water or hard city water which for us was hard in Minnesota and very hard here in Nevada so we have a water softener. I also installed an RO system under the sink so that we get bottled water quality on tap and don't have to buy a ton of plastic bottles adding waste. For $50 per filter every 6 months you could get yourself a nice RO system from Menard's for under $180. Thank you for sharing your experience. This is my first time with a water dispenser in the fridge and thankfully our city water is clean and soft thus eliminating the need for a filter. I agree they are very expansive and an alternative like filtering prior to the fridge might be a less costly option in the long run.
Literally just had the exact same experience with a slow/no trickle after installing RO system. Wasted like 5 mins trying to find a bypass filter to purchase, but thanks to this video I learned all i had to do was take out the other filter. LOL Thanks!
This is a great tip I never thought to check if the ice maker and water dispenser still work with the filter removed but they do. Mine is a completely different model and series of Samsung refrigerator but this trick still works. Since I'm running reverse osmosis filter before my refrigerator I had been simply resetting the filter alarm every time it came up. But this way I don't have to actually run my drinking water through a year's old filter.
Just note if have a smart refrigerator it will still give you notifications about switching your filter every few months. Smart but not that smart. glad the video was useful and thanks for watching.

Some viewers have mentioned that it didn't work for them, so make sure to follow the directions in the manual for removing the filter. I did find some dummy filters on line but for the modern frig they are not needed, useless you just want to fill the opening.
Going on three days with this option. I have an RO system and was having low pressure issues with the filter. Went to local stores and online parts stores only to get blank stares and "don't have one". If you think about it, they would have to have a by-pass when you take out the filter to change it otherwise water all over the place even with the line turned off. Thanks very much!
LMAO at the water spit. That's our water. It's so bad I installed a reverse osmosis system years ago. Just bought a new Samsung fridge that'll be delivered tomorrow and I don't want to use the filter because I'm sure it'll strip out some of what we remineralize the water with after the RO system. Congrats on the new fridge. The Samsung filter eliminates odor, taste and chlorine in the water, your RO probably incorporate carbon block filters which will do that and more. Therefore no added benefit to using the Samsung water filter. Glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching.
Brilliant! Exactly what I wanted to know. I trust my municipal water system. I know, I live life dangerously. If I was on a well I would definitely want a filter, but I don't live out in the country. I've heard mention of an alarm to tell you it's time to replace it. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I also don't change the oil in my car early 2000 miles. In addition to the cost, I have very difficult time getting near the floor. I don't want to have to hire somebody every few months to do this.
Congrats on saving on water and oil filters. On my frig the filter replace notice appears every few months and it is easy to reset, although there seems no way to disable it. As to cars, the oil change every 2k miles was fine in the very ole days, but I have been doing oil changes every 6 months since the 80's. Always best to follow the manufacturers schedule. @@cfldriven the companies that manufacture cars don't only look at the money they make when you buy the car. They look at the lifetime revenue stream. One of the big revenues streams is replacement parts when your car is in an accident. Back before we had quick change oil places, many people would have their manufacturer's recommended oil service done at the car dealer, which would be another opportunity to find things to repair that weren't broken - at three times the cost if the work was done by an independent repair shop.

Haha perfect, I have a iSpring RO system under my sink that I just split the output on and and ran one line to a tap and the other to the fridge, so I was looking for a way to bypass the filter entirely since I don't need additional filtration. Glad it's mega easy.

After 3yrs the original filter still sitting in the cabinet, while we continue get full pressure at the dispenser, but we are connected to the house plumbing.
1 minute search and found what I was looking for. My new samsung fridge is coming tomorrow and I wanted no filter because I have an ro system with remineralization for drinking water.
So how does it work? Do you just remove the filter and that’s it? How do you by pass it? Is there a switch to move or is it something a professional has to do?
As in the video you simply twist the filter which causes the valve to go into bypass mode. Normally you would insert a new filter and twist the opposite direction to have the water flow through the filter. We are just taking advantage of the bypass to not replace the filter.
My filter is dead center of the fridge so the open hole is kind of a eye sore, so I just cut the end of my filter off right after the locking mechanism so something is there to cover the hole but it doesn't make contact with the seal.
I have seen that layout in the store and never cared for it, although I guess it better than bending over to change the filter. Thanks for sharing your experience.
New Samsung 4 door bespoke, I have an 4 cartridge RO system, w/ incoming water on the RO @ 245TDS, same water going into fridge. Same TDS at the kitchen faucet, same TDS coming out the fridge, 245! Samsung filters are just CTO, Chlorine, taste and odor in a carbon block cart. Could connect a line from the RO tank into the fridge, but that would require an electric pressure booster pump. We really don't use Sam's water system.
Never having had a water and ice dispenser before, we really enjoy the convenience. In our area we don't additional water filtering which makes bypassing the sam filter easier.
Unfortunately our water here, even though I have a water softener system, still has rust and calcium. I use the ice machine daily, so my gut tells me I have to keep buying them. What are your thoughts?
The water softener won't do much for the rust as it not a filter. Depending on the amount and size of the rust I would be concerned with it interfering or clogging the water line in the fridge. You can add a filter onto your water softener and bypass the fridge filter or use one on the fridge. I think whole house filter might be cheaper in long run.
Wait...so I have the samsung bespoke that uses the same filter as your fridge. I also recently installed the EVO 3000 whole house filter/water softener, does that mean i don't need the Samsung filter anymore? Do i still need to do the bypass if i still have water running without the filter in there?
If your whole house water filter is connected to your Samsung product there is no need to incur the additional filter cost if you can bypass it. If there is no bypass on the Samsung there are dummy filters that can be installed. Thanks for watching.
I just got mine without the nice monitor door. the manual says the water supply line should be shut off before the filter is replaced. However you demo shows you can replace filter without turning off water supply valve. didn't you see any water leakage in the unpluged filter receptacle when you got water from the dispenser? Good question, the proper way is as you said to turn off the water supply line. If removing a filter already in service, you'll probably get some water leakage from the filter cartridge. In my situation I removed the filter before hooking up to the water line, thus once the line was opened the water went through the filter bypass valve and there was no leakage. I did check it for several day to make sure and never a drop. The funny part was the Mrs commented on the water tasting better.

You can try filling a spray bottle with a cleaning solution of two tablespoons baking soda and a quart of hot water. Apply the to all interior surfaces. Wipe with a sponge or microfiber cloth. Hope this helps.

Njeda, in bypassing the water filter the water travels directly to the dispenser and ice maker so it still gets chilled or made into ice. In fact the refrig will continue to prompt for a replacement filter every few months. Unfortunately there is no way to permanently disable the notification. Thanks for watching our video.
Just be aware the reason for changing the filter is to eliminate bacteria build up. The moist dark environment in the filter is perfect for bacteria to multiply in. I would either replace it or bypass it. Thank you for watching.
once opened a countertop filter a friend had been using for the last 20 yrs. without a new cartidge. the smell was one of the worst things ive ever smelled in my life. REPLACE that shit or don't have one.
1999 my wife and I got a new refrigerator and new filter. 2002 my wife and I laying next each in the hospital getting i.v.'s at the same time from horrible painful dehydration from a week of diarrhea and throwing up. We suspected our three-year-old refrigerator water filter. Took a sniff of the water filter and was disgusted and appalled we were drinking through that thing. Should have replaced the filter like the manufacturer recommending 6 months or no more than a year. Finally, I am currently hooking up an under the sink reverse osmosis system that will bypass the filter in a new Samsung refrigerator. Of course, I plan to use and replace my under-sink RO/filters for no more than 1 year.
@@g2rc My filter doesn't have any odor nor does the water coming out. I'll replace it at the 5 year mark and cut it open to get the facts of the matter. I'll post my results. I wouldn't have waited more than 2 or 3 days with diarrhea issues let alone a week. With constant highly chlorinated Municipal water running through mine I don't see how it could get bacteria build up. It will be interesting to cut the filter open and examine it.
@@LemonySnicket-EUC Just curious do you disconnect your water line to sniff the filter? I don't remember my water out of the dispenser smelling bad just remember smelling the really bad odor direct from the filter. Something to note in 1999 I don't remember any refrigerator manufacture having built in water filters to stay cold. My refrigerator had it's filter mounted behind where it gets very hot that probably promotes mold and algae much faster. I know hotter weather promotes algae much faster in my swimming pool so I need to be more diligent to keep up with chemicals. I'm wondering if you have a built in filter that stays cold and in turn prevents/extends the mold/algae process. We where young/dumb and freshly married and thought at the time we had a bad stomach flue that was going to pass any day. knowing what we know now we would never go more than two days throwing up diarrhea as we realize how dangerous getting that dehydrated can be to ones health. In the name of science I would be curious what you find after cracking open your filter.
If you're not using the ice maker or water dispenser turn it off from the screen settings, and disconnect and drain the water line and remove and drain the filter. No need to re-install filter.
I have one of the older Samsung Fridges. And yes, I can take the water filter out and still get water. But the water comes out so SSSSLLLLOOOOOWWWW! I am looking for a bypass filter but cannot seem to find them for my model fridge. I have an older cartridge and, if I can't find it, I'll just make my own bypass. Just wanted to let others know you can take out the cartridge and get watter but it might come out slower and therefore would want a bypass filter - a filter with no actual media in it.
Have you tried re-installing the filter and seeing if the flow is restored? If so then remove it and see if the flow returns to normal. I have seen dummy filters for sale, try a google search for appliance parts.
@@cfldriven Actually, I did a little digging and the filter I last used was of a different part number than specified in the manual. I found a company that sells a bypass filter that matches the specs in the manual and ordered it - type Samsung DA29. I will try it out to see if works and report back here.

@@cfldriven You wouldn't think there would be a difference. But I did notice it when the filter was first removed. I believe the bypass valve is restricting the flow. By design? Maybe to boost sales of filters??? Which IMHO, filters are way over-priced. We installed an RO which is why I am reluctant to re-install the fridge filter. The lines were sanitized and I don't want to re-introduce any bacteria, etc into the lines.

I have an RO filter system and tried this on my new Samsung RS27T5200. Turned off the water supply line removed the filter, turned the supply line back on and water came pouring out of the opening where I removed the filter. Either no auto bypass or it didn't work. Any suggestions?
I never turned off the water supply when I removed my water filter. Just make sure you turn it to the end of travel so the bypass is fully engaged. Also if sediment or park of the gasket get stuck it can cause it to leak. Hope that helps.

Like someone said, you probably need a "bypass plug" which fits where the filter would normally be and plugs the hole that water is coming out. Call your fridge maker for this part.
I drink water off the tap or garden hose my entire life. I only use water from the refrigerator for ice. I think the water filter is silly unless you live in a area with bad water then i'd rather move than use a filter.
I have been lucky enough to live in cities and towns with high quality drinking water, but unfortunately that is not the case throughout the US. If you're lucky enough to have safe drinking water using filters and buying bottled water can be a waster of money.
Is it black looking?Probably the activated charcoal from the filter. Nothing to be concerned about. If it gritty and not uniform in color it probably coming from your water supply.
@@cfldriven No they are tiny gray maybe , I see them floating inside right after filling my glass, not too many. I don't know, maybe condensed dust and dirts...They appears In no other place, sink, bath, etc., just in my drink water from the refrigerator
@@justoaguiar2514 I looked and I see them both in frig water and sink water and after a little research I found this, "This material is pipe scale and is a combination of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. Calcium and magnesium carbonates are naturally occurring minerals and are not a health hazard. Over time, these minerals can deposit on the inside of your pipes and then begin to flake off." I feel like I'm the only one that has come across a Samsung fridge that is fed by an RO and when I take out the filter, there is no automatic bypass and water will come pouring out of the old filter space. The filter in the fridge looks identical to this one.
My complaint with this filter is that I got a defective one... After install the filter replacement (Samsung official) split a couple of days later and I woke up to a fridge full of water and water spilling on the floor as well. Huge mess.
Wow that is crazy. The filter that came with my frig is thick and I can't imagine the body splitting. I wonder if they're making thinner or you got a counterfeit.
Has anyone had an issue where the bypass valve isn't properly sealing and water sprays everywhere once you remove the filter? I have an RO system before the fridge, so i'd like to bypass the filter completely.
@@cfldriven when i put the filter back in i completely turn it to the right and it seals up fine with the filter. But when i remove (by turning 90º to the left... actually it might even be 180º. i'm not at the house now) it starts spraying. So even if i wanted to use the filter, every time i change it i will get sprayed.
Ok So I've had mine removed for a year and a half and the in system by-pass has been working until now. Just last week, the filter has started to leak water into a lower drawer and it's SUPER annoying. Anyone else have this issue? I have model RF23R6201SR/aa
Nate, sorry to hear about the leak. It has been 3yrs for me without any issues, despite moving the frig several times. I noticed you mentioned the filter is leaking or did you mean the bypass valve? With the filter removed it should not leak unless there is something caught on the valve. I would try inserting the filter and flushing the system and then removing the filter to see it that clears up the leak at the by-pass valve. Best of luck.

@@Lindsey_Lockwood Often find OEM filters on Ebay for 1/2 the price of domestic ones from stores. Takes about 2-4 weeks to get from Asia......I buy 3 at a time to reduce shipping costs.
@@rickallmightyjones6189 ANSI sets voluntary guidelines, while US gov does set certain acceptable levels. ANSI good for knowing that a certain rating means this filter only deals with odors, while another rating mean it removes x or y chemicals.
I have an RS22 sidexside and the filter mechanism CONSTANTLY leaks. Enough to be an emergency. About to tear into it and see if i can delete the filter housing and make it just run straight from the inlet. DO NOT BUY A SAMSUNG FRIDGE!
Looking at the online manual, the filter setup looks the same. It does mention "To prevent water leaks from the filter opening, pull the cartridge straight out while removing it." If you don't need the water to be filtered you can safely bypass it, as in the video. While not my favorite frig, its been 20 months and so far no issues w this Samsung.
@@cfldriven No and in fact on my model it requires a turn to lock the filter into place and remove it. I have to wonder if it was a flawed design they quietly changed. I know samsung has multiple 40 dollar overpriced filters for these stupid things and at this point I am ready to buy a T and delete the stupid thing. I already have cut plastic line under the sink from the plumber so I might as well delete it cut his cap off and rejoin the line with an inline filter. Cheaper and I don't have to worry about the fridge flooding the house. I should mention it pours water no matter what now. weather a filter is installed or not its leaking. Says a lot about their engineering for appliances...

If you live in an area where a water filter would provide a real benefit (removal of odor or taste) the choices are to pay Samsung or go with a third party filter that will cost less. For the rest of us bypassing the filter is a good option. Thank you for watching.

Some viewers have mentioned that it didn't work for them, so make sure to follow the directions in the manual for removing the filter. I did find some dummy filters on line but for the modern frig they are not needed, useless you just want to fill the opening.

Going on three days with this option. I have an RO system and was having low pressure issues with the filter. Went to local stores and online parts stores only to get blank stares and "don't have one". If you think about it, they would have to have a by-pass when you take out the filter to change it otherwise water all over the place even with the line turned off. Thanks very much!

LMAO at the water spit. That's our water. It's so bad I installed a reverse osmosis system years ago. Just bought a new Samsung fridge that'll be delivered tomorrow and I don't want to use the filter because I'm sure it'll strip out some of what we remineralize the water with after the RO system. Congrats on the new fridge. The Samsung filter eliminates odor, taste and chlorine in the water, your RO probably incorporate carbon block filters which will do that and more. Therefore no added benefit to using the Samsung water filter. Glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching.

Exactly what I wanted to know. I trust my municipal water system. I know, I live life dangerously. If I was on a well I would definitely want a filter, but I don't live out in the country. I've heard mention of an alarm to tell you it's time to replace it. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I also don't change the oil in my car early 2000 miles. In addition to the cost, I have very difficult time getting near the floor. I don't want to have to hire somebody every few months to do this.
Congrats on saving on water and oil filters. On my frig the filter replace notice appears every few months and it is easy to reset, although there seems no way to disable it. As to cars, the oil change every 2k miles was fine in the very ole days, but I have been doing oil changes every 6 months since the 80's. Always best to follow the manufacturers schedule. @@cfldriven the companies that manufacture cars don't only look at the money they make when you buy the car. They look at the lifetime revenue stream. One of the big revenues streams is replacement parts when your car is in an accident. Back before we had quick change oil places, many people would have their manufacturer's recommended oil service done at the car dealer, which would be another opportunity to find things to repair that weren't broken - at three times the cost if the work was done by an independent repair shop.

Haha perfect, I have a iSpring RO system under my sink that I just split the output on and and ran one line to a tap and the other to the fridge, so I was looking for a way to bypass the filter entirely since I don't need additional filtration. Glad it's mega easy.

While some household filters can be cleaned and reused, these filters are not designed to be reused. Thank you for the feedback.
So how does it work? Do you just remove the filter and that’s it? How do you by pass it? Is there a switch to move or is it something a professional has to do?
As in the video you simply twist the filter which causes the valve to go into bypass mode. Normally you would insert a new filter and twist the opposite direction to have the water flow through the filter. We are just taking advantage of the bypass to not replace the filter.
My filter is dead center of the fridge so the open hole is kind of a eye sore, so I just cut the end of my filter off right after the locking mechanism so something is there to cover the hole but it doesn't make contact with the seal.
I have seen that layout in the store and never cared for it, although I guess it better than bending over to change the filter. Thanks for sharing your experience.
New Samsung 4 door bespoke, I have an 4 cartridge RO system, w/ incoming water on the RO @ 245TDS, same water going into fridge. Same TDS at the kitchen faucet, same TDS coming out the fridge, 245! Samsung filters are just CTO, Chlorine, taste and odor in a carbon block cart. Could connect a line from the RO tank into the fridge, but that would require an electric pressure booster pump. We really don't use Sam's water system.
Never having had a water and ice dispenser before, we really enjoy the convenience. In our area we don't additional water filtering which makes bypassing the sam filter easier.

Unfortunately our water here, even though I have a water softener system, still has rust and calcium. I use the ice machine daily, so my gut tells me I have to keep buying them. What are your thoughts?
The water softener won't do much for the rust as it not a filter. Depending on the amount and size of the rust I would be concerned with it interfering or clogging the water line in the fridge. You can add a filter onto your water softener and bypass the fridge filter or use one on the fridge. I think whole house filter might be cheaper in long run.

Wait...so I have the samsung bespoke that uses the same filter as your fridge. I also recently installed the EVO 3000 whole house filter/water softener, does that mean i don't need the Samsung filter anymore? Do i still need to do the bypass if i still have water running without the filter in there?
If your whole house water filter is connected to your Samsung product there is no need to incur the additional filter cost if you can bypass it. If there is no bypass on the Samsung there are dummy filters that can be installed. Thanks for watching.
I just got mine without the nice monitor door. the manual says the water supply line should be shut off before the filter is replaced. However you demo shows you can replace filter without turning off water supply valve. didn't you see any water leakage in the unpluged filter receptacle when you got water from the dispenser?

Good question, the proper way is as you said to turn off the water supply line. If removing a filter already in service, you'll probably get some water leakage from the filter cartridge. In my situation I removed the filter before hooking up to the water line, thus once the line was opened the water went through the filter bypass valve and there was no leakage. I did check it for several day to make sure and never a drop. The funny part was the Mrs commented on the water tasting better.

You can try filling a spray bottle with a cleaning solution of two tablespoons baking soda and a quart of hot water. Apply the to all interior surfaces. Wipe with a sponge or microfiber cloth. Hope this helps.

Njeda, in bypassing the water filter the water travels directly to the dispenser and ice maker so it still gets chilled or made into ice. In fact the refrig will continue to prompt for a replacement filter every few months. Unfortunately there is no way to permanently disable the notification. Thanks for watching our video.

Just be aware the reason for changing the filter is to eliminate bacteria build up. The moist dark environment in the filter is perfect for bacteria to multiply in. I would either replace it or bypass it. Thank you for watching.
once opened a countertop filter a friend had been using for the last 20 yrs. without a new cartidge. the smell was one of the worst things ive ever smelled in my life. REPLACE that shit or don't have one.
1999 my wife and I got a new refrigerator and new filter. 2002 my wife and I laying next each in the hospital getting i.v.'s at the same time from horrible painful dehydration from a week of diarrhea and throwing up. We suspected our three-year-old refrigerator water filter. Took a sniff of the water filter and was disgusted and appalled we were drinking through that thing. Should have replaced the filter like the manufacturer recommending 6 months or no more than a year. Finally, I am currently hooking up an under the sink reverse osmosis system that will bypass the filter in a new Samsung refrigerator. Of course, I plan to use and replace my under-sink RO/filters for no more than 1 year.
@@g2rc My filter doesn't have any odor nor does the water coming out. I'll replace it at the 5 year mark and cut it open to get the facts of the matter. I'll post my results. I wouldn't have waited more than 2 or 3 days with diarrhea issues let alone a week. With constant highly chlorinated Municipal water running through mine I don't see how it could get bacteria build up. It will be interesting to cut the filter open and examine it.

I don't remember my water out of the dispenser smelling bad just remember smelling the really bad odor direct from the filter. Something to note in 1999 I don't remember any refrigerator manufacture having built in water filters to stay cold. My refrigerator had it's filter mounted behind where it gets very hot that probably promotes mold and algae much faster. I know hotter weather promotes algae much faster in my swimming pool so I need to be more diligent to keep up with chemicals. I'm wondering if you have a built in filter that stays cold and in turn prevents/extends the mold/algae process. We where young/dumb and freshly married and thought at the time we had a bad stomach flue that was going to pass any day. knowing what we know now we would never go more than two days throwing up diarrhea as we realize how dangerous getting that dehydrated can be to ones health. In the name of science I would be curious what you find after cracking open your filter.

If you're not using the ice maker or water dispenser turn it off from the screen settings, and disconnect and drain the water line and remove and drain the filter. No need to re-install filter.
I have one of the older Samsung Fridges. And yes, I can take the water filter out and still get water. But the water comes out so SSSSLLLLOOOOOWWWW! I am looking for a bypass filter but cannot seem to find them for my model fridge. I have an older cartridge and, if I can't find it, I'll just make my own bypass. Just wanted to let others know you can take out the cartridge and get watter but it might come out slower and therefore would want a bypass filter - a filter with no actual media in it.
Have you tried re-installing the filter and seeing if the flow is restored? If so then remove it and see if the flow returns to normal. I have seen dummy filters for sale, try a google search for appliance parts.
@@cfldriven Actually, I did a little digging and the filter I last used was of a different part number than specified in the manual. I found a company that sells a bypass filter that matches the specs in the manual and ordered it - type Samsung DA29. I will try it out to see if works and report back here.

We installed an RO which is why I am reluctant to re-install the fridge filter. The lines were sanitized and I don't want to re-introduce any bacteria, etc into the lines.

I have an RO filter system and tried this on my new Samsung RS27T5200. Turned off the water supply line removed the filter, turned the supply line back on and water came pouring out of the opening where I removed the filter. Either no auto bypass or it didn't work. Any suggestions?
I never turned off the water supply when I removed my water filter. Just make sure you turn it to the end of travel so the bypass is fully engaged. Also if sediment or park of the gasket get stuck it can cause it to leak. Hope that helps.

Like someone said, you probably need a "bypass plug" which fits where the filter would normally be and plugs the hole that water is coming out. Call your fridge maker for this part.

I drink water off the tap or garden hose my entire life. I only use water from the refrigerator for ice. I think the water filter is silly unless you live in a area with bad water then i'd rather move than use a filter.
I have been lucky enough to live in cities and towns with high quality drinking water, but unfortunately that is not the case throughout the US. If you're lucky enough to have safe drinking water using filters and buying bottled water can be a waster of money.

Is it black looking?Probably the activated charcoal from the filter. Nothing to be concerned about. If it gritty and not uniform in color it probably coming from your water supply.

I feel like I'm the only one that has come across a Samsung fridge that is fed by an RO and when I take out the filter, there is no automatic bypass and water will come pouring out of the old filter space. The filter in the fridge looks identical to this one.
You may want to get a dummy filter that prevents leaks and never needs changing.

Nate, sorry to hear about the leak. It has been 3yrs for me without any issues, despite moving the frig several times. I noticed you mentioned the filter is leaking or did you mean the bypass valve? With the filter removed it should not leak unless there is something caught on the valve. I would try inserting the filter and flushing the system and then removing the filter to see it that clears up the leak at the by-pass valve. Best of luck.

Why buy the filters when you can do a whole home filter for the same money?
Most likely a Whole house filter is just a 10x4" single cartridge sediment filter.
Not always feasible in existing home and or apt.

I have an RS22 sidexside and the filter mechanism CONSTANTLY leaks. Enough to be an emergency. About to tear into it and see if i can delete the filter housing and make it just run straight from the inlet. DO NOT BUY A SAMSUNG FRIDGE!
Looking at the online manual, the filter setup looks the same. It does mention "To prevent water leaks from the filter opening, pull the cartridge straight out while removing it." If you don't need the water to be filtered you can safely bypass it, as in the video. While not my favorite frig, its been 20 months and so far no issues w this Samsung.
@@cfldriven No and in fact on my model it requires a turn to lock the filter into place and remove it. I have to wonder if it was a flawed design they quietly changed. I know samsung has multiple 40 dollar overpriced filters for these stupid things and at this point I am ready to buy a T and delete the stupid thing. I already have cut plastic line under the sink from the plumber so I might as well delete it cut his cap off and rejoin the line with an inline filter. Cheaper and I don't have to worry about the fridge flooding the house. I should mention it pours water no matter what now. weather a filter is installed or not its leaking. Says a lot about their engineering for appliances...
