Another interesting video from the “Shooting Through” series.
Wish I could find the complete series in place so I can binge-watch whichever ones I wanted!

Would be nice to have an historic tram run on the newer SLR network as a tourist attraction

This will only happen if there is political will and money available to do a 'W8' style modernisation of a heritage tram body. There are a number of R1 class bodies that could be made available. There are too many barriers to running unmodified heritage stock and no will at the top to make it happen anyway. 'Heritage' trams running on the modern light rail will only happen if politicians think there are votes or money to be made. Enthusiasm won't cut it. Needs top-level political patronage and money.

    What has changed:
The Scrubber Car has been given to the STM and converted back to having a trolley pole.
In 2013 the L1 was extended to Dulwich Hill.
In 2014 several Urbos 2 Trams would be imported from Velez-Malaga and Seville, then returned in 2015.
In 2015, the Variotrams would be replaced by Urbos 3 Trams.
In 2019, a new light rail line opened between Circular Quay and Randwick, mostly along the old tram alignment. This is known as the L2.
In 2020, a branch line from Moore Park to Juniors Kingsford/Kingsford South would open. This is known as the L3.
Both the L2 and L3 run Citadis 305 trams, usually in 2 set consists.

134s was hired from the STM to do the SLR tracks .134s has also done the Eastern Suburbs Railway and the Cronulla line, it's had an interesting career. The pantograph was off one of the german cars and modifications were made to the wiring, modifications that are still there - it still has a 'Loftus - Sydney' selector switch. But the car already had extra resistance for long periods of low-speed operation and it was never operated in 'parallel' mode on the SLR.

@@MatthewGeier Thanks for that information. What exactly were the "German cars"? The ones from Berlin at the STM?

@@griffinrails The pantograph used on 134s came off one of the Berlin TZ69 cars. 5133 I think as that's the one converted to pole collector.

@@MatthewGeier 3007 was converted to trolley pole operation as well. In fact that was one originally used at the museum before 5133 got overhauled. Then it went down to Melbourne with its original pantograph back on however they lost the trolley pole down there. Doesn’t really matter now, next time that tram is up and running again it will be with its pantograph.

The Citadis 305 trams are good in 2-set consists in peak hours, but wouldn't it be better to have single units on off-peak and slower hours? Also if the were separate, the could maybe be quicker than the larger units.
