Laying ceramic tile on a concrete patio

- My son and I had a fun summer project...to transform our ugly concrete slab into an inviting place to hang out outside. I think we accomplished our mission!
All materials were bought at Lowe’s!
The fact that you took the courage to tackle a big project like this on your own, was awesome, and to have a helper that is your son much more awesome than the job itself. Why, because by doing this as a mother teaching his son that YOU tried, and finished it cost what cost. You've taught him that there will not be any limitations on wanting to TRY to do anything, to progress on your own. You were not a professional tile setter, but you made an effort to try and make your out door look lovely and that you both and with family can enjoy. If it cracks or what ever, you'll learn to figure how to fix the problem some how. Not every body has the means to hire a professional to do things for them, so the last resort is to try it yourself. This lady/ mother did well for herself and her family. God bless her for giving her intelligence, courage, wisdom, strength, love, and an awesome son that was eager to help in something so beautiful...
Couldn't have said it better fr
Not sure what made me smile more about your video.... the fact this it came out beautiful or that your lil guy helped you. Thanks for posting and sharing.
Came out amazing! I love the fact that your son was able to help you. That is something he can always be proud to say he did with you.
Love this! I've been thinking if I want to keep cleaning off my outdoor rug every year, or just tile the patio! I think I'll tile now!
Girl thanks for posting! I'm going to do my patio as well. Just wanted to see it done before I try! My son is grown and gone now lol He was my helper at my other house, when he was younger! Now I'm doing my projects by my self. You did a great job!!
Fearless, you did an amazing job.
Looks great in 2024! How is it holding up? Do you have any tips or lessons learned to share? We are thinking of doing this under a pavilion. Thank you for your response and inspiration! 😎🎸👍
Now that’s a partner I can get behind. I’ve been in the electrical field for 30 years doing all kinds and levels of electric from low voltage landscape lights, under cabinet lighting and chandeliers to high voltage linemen work now I’m back to doing commercial and residential electrical to troubleshooting. I also do handyman work all from custom builds to stock installation but to find a partner who can help in upgrading our home and making it an oasis to come home to and enjoy it every day and especially on the weekend with family and friends. Amazing job!! and schooling your son to help. I’m flabbergasted. I need a life partner like you😍🥰. Sending many blessings your way. Keep up the awesome job and keep the projects coming.
You both did a GREAT job! Amazing people can accomplish amazing things...haters got no time to do anything accept hate what's good.
Lol 😂 haters will say you can’t use ceramic tiles outside , use pavers lol 😂 The Home Depot lovers
You kick ass! I love it, you saved thousands of dollars. Looks amazing and it adds beauty to your home.

Hello, did you tile your porch the same way she did? You didn't have to add pads to prevent moisture and cracks to ruin the tiles? I really need advice from diy beginners as I'm trying to complete this by April
You go girl, great video!

Hey! This was helpful since I’m about to do the same to our porch and wanted to know how everything held up for y’all? Is it still in good condition? Do you wish you did anything differently? 😊
Very nice! I was contemplating adding some sort of surface to my outdoor patio concrete. It's been some time since you've posted this video. How's it holding up so far? How are you maintaining or any maintenance required at all? Thanks for sharing.
Looks fantastic
Nice job, it looks great!
What are you thinking of putting over the roof to cover for rain ? You inspired me to do my own ! 😍
Wow! Amazing results!

Did u use a specific outdoor tile and morter for this job ? Looks great 👍🏻
Awesome!👏 😅
Love this look and you did an amazing job !

My concern is if it is slick or slippery: Have you had any issues?
Beautiful Queen!! 👍🏾
Can you share what type of mortar you used and how it's holding up? Thank you.

omg, that looks fantastic. great idea and execution!
Have the tile cracked? Looking to do the same thing to our patio but worried about cracking without an isolation membrane
Nice work, but should have been partly a tutorial, explaining the basics, especially for those doing for the first time. Thanks for sharing.
Good job
Do you have any issues with water puddling after a rain?
Well done and looks great
This is amazing! It's so professional. You have given me the courage to do some tiling myself! Thank you!
Terrific Job!
Hi. What is the season like in florida? Do you get crazy winter and snow in winter? Ceramic tiles will be very vulnerable to freeze-thaw effect. Porcelain tiles, if done right, is a better choice. You did great btw.
Wow!!!!
Killed it!!!
It looks amazing. I have been thinking of doing that to mine but i live in Florida and my only concern is if its slippery when it rains or gets wet.
It is pretty slippery, but I put down an outdoor rug, which helps. The tile also gets pretty hot out in the sun. I live in FL too. 😊
@Simply Francella ok. Thanks. That's what needed to know
Good job lady
Hey where do you live that you can lay ceramic outdoors?
Looks terrific. I'm inspired.
this is excellent
The black wife effect :).
Wow you did 😊
Awesomeness!!!
Great job. I live in south Florida so I'm always worried about moisture. Are these ok to get wet?
Did you spray down the patio first with water to clean?
Looks nice but you'd think it would be really slippery when its wet
looking good! What are your thoughts on stamped concrete verses tiles?
How is this tie holding up to the sunlight and weather? Is it flaking and peeling?
Lovely and great job on it. Currently building a home and contractor has said that they would not be able to tile the patio so looking to do this after we move in. A couple questions, how is it holding out now that some time has passed, and did you cut all pieces before starting or as you went along? Concerned about handling cracks if they happen after laying tile
It is advisable to put down something like the Ditra Membrane first, then tile on the membrane. That will greatly assist in avoiding any concrete movement or cracks from transferring to your tile job as well. Cement board is NOT meant for use on concrete. You will cut the tile as you go - a wet tilesaw is a cheap rental item that will do the job. Tile work isn't complicated but it is hard on the body if you aren't young. Wear a mask if you mix your own mastic - that dust is highly toxic. The pre-mixed stuff has come a long way though, so you should be fine with that. The most important parts of the job are a good foundation, then the layout so you don't end up with a very narrow final row. Map it out on graph paper if you can, makes the job a lot easier if you know exactly where to start the job.
