The female Pine Grosbeak is copper / brass colored and an absolute beauty . The sun hits them and they just glow. For a few years I had an old Raven that would perch near the house and he was so cool. He would imitate logging trucks and jake brakes .
That whole family of birds are good mimics. My life Pine Grosbeak was in Yosemite 30 years ago. I caught her movement and watched her go and settle in on her nest. I'll never forget that.
That would be extremely rare. If it were a dead tree, they could possible chisel out a big enough area that may weaken it enough that it could topple over with a wind.
Yay! That was awesome, Mark! Thank you! We do get all those birds! The only one I haven’t seen is the Stellar ‘s Jay. We had a pair of grouse nesting on our property 2 years in a row . We’d hear the male drumming in the spring. They raised several clutches, and it was neat to see! I think the Pine Grosbeaks are my favorite, and yes, they are definitely pigs! 😂 The redpolls have a lot of attitude, and can overtake the feeders in sheer numbers! The gray jays are lovely curious birds. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with other parts of the country! Blessings! 😊

Wisconsin: eleven 11 kinds of owls!
@@mairwaugus5203 It is an awesome state for birding. I chased a Northern Hawk Owl up there several winters ago but never found it.
