    Ted,
    It's great that you are back healthy and we're seeing more regular vids from you! Looking forward to your results on the slug test. I'd like to hear your recommendations/perspective/experience with the different FX liners(ST, STX, Superior) in pellet or slug, in the different lengths(380, 500, 600, 700mm) in whichever guns(calibers) you have experience with, as it pertains to:
    1) competition accuracy(75/100 yards)
    2) field use (pesting/hunting)
    It would help make sense of ALL the different options to have some guide as to which is better suited to what applications. Also, I think more people might buy Element scopes if you would do a video showing exactly how you use it and what makes it "the scope you've always wanted" and show how it differs from other similar scopes. Always enjoy your vids, Phil

    I used wood pellets for a trap once. The ones for a pellet stove. Takes a few more than rubber mulch. But they float in water and burn nicely for smelting/casting. Good luck with your tests. You shoot more than me, probably orders of magnitude...

    Thank you for bring up the EdGun. So burnt out with the FXs . Yes they are all that and a bag of chips but there are so many other good guns out there that you used to shoot too. I for one miss those days. Nothing against FX...nothing...but they are not the only good guns out there. Very much looking forward to the results with the EdGun. I have been thinking about a Lalya 2.0. So small and quick follow ups. Very robust and simple. Smaller and simpler than my SK-19 in .22 but less weight, maybe not as versatile but that’s ok. That’s very exciting for a woodsman style of sneak&stock hunting. Small, accurate, reliable, solid, and quiet. Yep can’t wait. The sooner this Chinese disease goes away, the sooner we can get back to work and earning our keep and saving money to get new toys.👍 Thanks for the heads up. Take care, stay safe, God Bless you and yours.

      Yes, I agree. I love my FX guns, but sometimes they makes my head hurt with all the choices of ST/STX/Superior, barrel/liner lengths, pellet and/or slug, HS adjust, Valve adjust, etc.. When that happens, I pull out the old trusty, straight and simple shooting, Edgun Lelya 2.0. Haven't adjusted it from factory setup. It's the perfect "truck gun" for me doing pesting/hunting. Small size, quiet(with Bat moderator), good shot count, flat shooting(in .22). No knobs or external adjustments; just fill, cock, shoot, go pick up squirrel/rabbit/pigeon/dove, repeat...

      Highly detailed video on .22 and .25 Impact PP MKIIs slug lined and STX lined 700mm and .22 and .25 Crown Contis slug lined on my Facebook.
      We tested them in 700mm STX liners and 700mm Slug liners in both guns a total or 2 barrels in the crowns per cal and same in the Impacts so 8 total barrels, 4 x STX and 4x STX slug liner.
      We show groups at a many different power levels and all groups at 100y indoors and then 200y groups in calm conditions early morning.
      It's 3x videos totaling 1 hour 26 minutes.
      We also have a video of the Hybrids vs NSA vs AVS vs Griffin slugs as well in .22 and .25 cals and shot from 500mm STX and STX slug liners in our .22 Dream lite And 600mm STX and STX slug liners in our .25 Dream lite both carbon bottle versions and PP'ed that video is 2 videos at 1 hour and 44 minutes long. Highly highly detailed videos... Showing what these guns and different slugs can do at 100y, 200y and even some 300y groups.
      I can say this... My .22 twin 580cc bottled Impact with a fair bit of work and a few custom designed parts is pushing 32.5g slugs we make at 73.6ftlbs/1010fps and is shooting mind numbing 300y groups... 5 shot 300y groups are consistently 1.25 minute or smaller with most being right at 3 inches and 100y lol well watch the videos (FB name is same as here, same profile pic)
      We show a total of about 20 different slugs.. We show extremely detailed performance abilities of the Hybrids and Griffin slugs ... There's also a 3 minute video or us showing doves we shot with .22 and .25 Hybrids and Griffin slugs and showing real world expansion with captured slugs that we take from the doves. There is also videos of our fragmenting .22 and .25 slugs that we make... Showing 50y on doves that don't pass thru in 60ftlb guns... Literally sounds like a firecracker going off when it hits the birds... Only used on city birds that we don't eat... The grain fed birds we eat tho and dont use there slugs on so don't get upset at that... Those projectiles literally destroy the bird to much for table fare with a center breast shot that it's totally unbelievable. Check it out, send a friend request and ill accept so you can view videos.

    Very long time fan of the channel here! I think what would be a great idea is
    1. Go in depth with the element optics as a brand and as a product in general as I think alot of people really want to know more. Pretty much go crazy and ramble on about scopes.
    2. Try different lengths of slugs as I remember Matt dubber talking about how different lengths in slugs where important with results in accuracy and precision.
    3. Are you going to the next extreme benchrest? I plan on going for my first time and would love to see if I can beat your score!
    Best of luck!

    • @EDCandLace
      @EDCandLace 4 года назад

      Barrel twist rate and velocity ... A faster twist rate will stabilize longer slugs or allow lower velocity to be used and still stabilize the slug... In any barrel the faster you push a slug the higher the spin rate will be in that given twist rate so velocity and twist rate determine the projectiles RPM. Ok so now that thats explained..
      Standard pellet barrels twist rates are in the 1 in 18 or so to slow to stabilize fully spin stabilized projectiles at lower speeds.
      Im a nut shell yes .22 crosman barrels will shoot slugs and believe it or not pretty well. There are some parts that will make life easier for you. Number one the longer a projectile (slug) the faster it needs to spin to be stable.
      So you need to start off with short slugs and something that you can push 900 or so with in most cases the faster the better.
      I have a Disco .22 that I built with all Crosmods parts.. Amazing looking gun... It's regulated and running 3000psi (valve is using high grade screws and pinned) at 1800psi reg pressure. It's setup to push JSB 25.39s at 47ftlbs for 15 shots (3000 to 1800psi)
      It shoots Griffin 17g .218s deep cup base slugs amazingly well for what it is... 100y will put 10 inside of 2 inches ( very good when you understand that's a stock 24 inch crosman .22 barrel, compared to my pure breed slug setup.. 700mm slug liner PP Impact MKII terrible lol)
      I have a .22 and .25 2nd gen Synrod as well that shoots a few slugs very well.
      This is more directly at what you asked without explaining what makes a slug shoot well.
      We have ran so many slugs through them to see what would shoot.
      From what we seen flat based slugs need to be in the 17 to 19g range.. NSA 17.5s in .218 shoot pretty good. 16g .218 Griffin Deep cup based HPs shoot really well... AVS .218 20g shoot pretty damn good... .218 H&N 21g... All shoot pretty good BUT need to be in the 880fps minium and really 920+ but the shot string will become an issue unless you are regulated or don't mind a tune that is VERY bell curvy to the point your ES will be a 100fps over maybe 20 shots...
      Griffin 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20g deep cup base .218s I can almost assure you that one of them or more will shoot very very well on a stock tune with the 15 or 16g being what will likely shoot the best and won't force you to tune the gun very air heavy and really killing your shot string... Ideally the 15.16.17g Griffin tuned to ran 900 to 920fps will give you a usable shot count without being a steep sling up over a couple shots and a couple consistent shots at the top of the curve and then a steep drop back down.
      In crosman .22 barrels I can say this for certain and that is .218 or .219 slugs are gonna be what you want to start with... We have tested a lot of crosman .22 barrels with slugs ( we have a fair bit of custom 22xx based guns that are PCPs and a couple Disco base customs.. Some running LW barrels and some running Normal Crosman .24 inch barrels) in every single .22 crosman barrel .219 slugs perform the best but .219z aren't made by many (we make a lot of our own slugs) so .218s seem to work well in the slugs it shoots well. .217s .216s have not shot even decent in any crosman barrel we tested them in.
      Now we do lead lap our Crosman barrels, lathe turn a crown and square both ends. In the lapping we are removing a slight amount of material from the barrel and polishing it.. So keep that in mind, the Mrods barrel is not the normal Crosman .22 barrel (.25s are Green Mtn barrels) but they are made the same just choked and finished a little better... Beings our Synrod .22 barrel has been lapped and is finely finished (super slick finish and smoothed out lands and groves.) A stock barrel may like .217 or .218 the best as they will not have that tiny bit of material removed....
      I know this was long but the info is correct and will help you out...
      First off .218s and start with shorter/lighter slugs that aren't flat based... Ideally you will be able to find a light weight flat base that shoots well but to start you want it to perform decent so you aren't buying 50 different slugs and nothing is shooting good and makes you upset...
      Deep cupped based light slugs will very likely shoot well so you won't feel like you wasted your money.. Once you see well it shoots .218 16g deep cup well next try 16g .218 cup base and if it shoots well then try .218 16g flat base... If it still shoots well then you have an idea that you can try something else that is similar and have decent odds it will shoot well.
      If i was you i would grab a pack of NSA .218 17.5g flat base HPs and hope they shoot well then go the route of deep cup and cup based if they dont...
      The reason i say grab a bag of the NSA 17.5s is because they do shoot well im a LOT of guns if they are pushed 880fps or faster and you will have no problem pushing them in the 920s where they are starting to become happy speed wise. So a lot of guns like them, 400 cost 18 dollars... They shoot flat, hit hard and expand pretty decently... At 920fps the B.C will be around .0950ish so MUCH MUCH higher then any Diabolo pellet.. They are not much more per shot then premium pellets and will way way way extend your usable range of the gun..
      If you are getting 10 inside of an inch at 50y (i know that doesn't sound good but it is decent and you will be able to tighten that up some with dialing in the power to where the gun/slug is in harmony) then you will be around 2 inches at a 100y so long as it's stable (some slugs will shoot well at 50 and then around 80 to 100y start to destabilize to the point or tumbling but that's normally when they are being pushed WAY slow because its to long/heavy of a slug for that power level) and it will very likely be.
      You shouldn't have to much of a problem finding a slug and tune that will give you consistent 2 minute 100y performance that is your target.. Don't expect a while lot more then that tho as to get in the truly sub minute capable guns your going to be talking dedicated slug guns that are tuned to a slug. The Mrod is just not capable or that level of performance. It's taken a lot of perfecting to get my .22 Impact MKII PP 700mm slug lined gun that is dialed to a specific slug at a specific power to be able to call it a truly sub minute 10 shot 100y gun

    Ted... how are computing the depth of rubber mulch needed to stop your various calibers? Just empirically? Or do you know the specific mass/density of the material to compute against some velocity/acceleration calcs? I have a streamline .22 and have done some casual target stuff. But, I just picked up a .30 impact MKII from Utah Airguns and am wondering what I want to do regarding backstops. I have a farm and can setup moderate distances against a land rise, but I want to start thinking about not leaving so much lead around, since I’ll be shooting more as I get more serious with this “hobby”. :-P Love your content!!! :)

    Hi Ted,
    You used to make very interesting videos with a bit of theory involved. I feel great stuff coming in soon, so wish you all the best luck!
    Would be great to see some slow-mo videos of pellet vs slugs flight as well as barrel twist rate vs speed, etc. Thanks!

    • @HoldOverVlog
      @HoldOverVlog  4 года назад

      The one I got to review last year under performed. It’s very possible that my gun had an issue. I attempted to install a huma regulator to get the abnormally large speed variation under control, and totally screwed that up. I sent it back to the US distributor for a tune/repair, and haven’t seen it since.

    When are they going to bring out a slug that works well out of a sub 12 ft-lb rifle for us UK shooters. The increased BC would make a massive difference to our hunting range.

    • @HoldOverVlog
      @HoldOverVlog  4 года назад +4

      Good idea!. I remarked the exact same thing to Giles when I saw him last year. I will dial a gun down to 11.5ft/lbs and add it to the list.

    I would also LOVE to see ANYONE find out what it would take to make the absolutely dreadfull, scary and nightmarishly poorly grouping H&N Rabbit Magnum's actually group say 1/2" at 50 yards, just 50 yards to not be too demanding lol.
    Surely nobody can not have done it yet, I know I have tried .177 & .22's in a whole lot of airrifles, but I could just have well been using a slingshot, actually I probably might have been more accurate with a slingshot than with an airrifle with those pellets or slugs or whatever one might call them.
    And I want them to perform, because I absolutely love my H&N's, and my airrifles loves them too, except for the dreaded Rabbit Magnums that is......

Currently saving up for an Element Nexus and an Impact Mark III and want to set this up for optimal performance. Thank You
