Incredible! But, yes.... this one is like this for this time, the last time, because it will be divided, I have people that want a division... it also needs a revamp in the pot, so, as much as I love this spectacle, in order to get it to do that again in 2 years, we will be going in at such a time that it is the right time, and start again with 30%. 🌸

    Makes me want to try dendrobiums again ;) I stopped long ago because here they were such a magnet for aphids that I couldnt get rid of them in time in spring and those were driving the plants downhill quickly, but nowadays with the bugscreen enclosed shelf it might be easier.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +2

      Hi Julien!! 🤗💐 yep... the aphids were especially high in numbers this year... I had to be super vigilant, weird considering how nasty the weather was recently 🤷🏼‍♀️ I am now using a garlic infused alcohol solution ... I have not seen aphids back, but of course, that is not what I can spray on buds, BUT, the garlic seems to act as a repellent and once I had blasted the aphids off and sprayed the leaves with the garlic infusion, I have not seen them back ruclips.net/video/wUc41OqWohM/видео.html don't know if you watched this video, but it is where I started the experiment. Especially on the latouria dens, and so far so good!! 👍🏼 And the orchid does not smell of garlic... but there is something that the bugs sense and they stay away from it, which is what I find pretty cool 😊 Thank you so much for watching, Julien, have yourself a wonderful day 🌸

    A amazingly gorgeous orchid! We’ll done for caring so well for it to become so big! Wonderful video carecollabe ( I just watched Fernanda’s). I think the cold is the only thing it needs to bloom and as you said still need water in winter. Don’t you water her less in winter I assume?Thanks for sharing and happy growing.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +2

      Hi Mary 🤗💐 watering in winter can be a double whammy... I water her, less fertilizer, but then it can sporadically rain, so... it can get a bit more than I would have bargained for, but, I take the mask off so that the rain water just drains through. But I do not give it a winter rest, because it appears to always be doing something, even if the winter growths mature a little smaller, it always gets fertilized. Later in the season, it will be divided, and I have you down for a division... are you still interested? Thank you for watching 🌸

    Hi 💐🏵️my Berry Oda is with me since 2019 and she has not bloomed not a single time. She grew like weeds but not a single spike. I think my mistakes were the lack of rest in any aspect (I always watered and added fertilizer) and although I provided some cold temperature she didn't go below 13 for more than 1 week. Additionally thrips have bitten all her leaves during the summer as I can see they turned greyish like there is no substance inside.. but the leaves don't fall off 🤷. I think I know what l need to change in order to make her live the happier . Thanks 😊 for your video. I always check RUclips in the morning while I drink my coffee to know more about your technics and growing tips. 💐

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +3

      Alex, hi!! 🤗💐 the thrips... I am now figuring out that my garden centre gave me the wrong diagnosis regarding 'moth larvae'... the symptoms you describe is exactly like the keiki I show in the video. Silvery leaves from having the substance sucked out of them, but they do not fall off! If you say the same thing and say it is thrips, then, my garden centre sent me down a frustrating rabbit hole for the past 3 years and I was treating the orchids affected for something that it wasn't! ruclips.net/video/wUc41OqWohM/видео.html here is a video of a garlic infusion I made on camera, and am applying it to all the orchids that showed these symptoms last year.... So far, I am seeing that new growths are coming out clean! It is especially prominent on the latouria dens... maybe it could be something you can copy? The garlic seems to act as a repellant long after the alcohol has evaporated. In your climate, you can leave your Berry 'Oda' outside ... let the weather do the taking care! If it rains, so be it, if it doesn't then help it along with water, if it is growing new growths, fertilize but at a lower ppm than you would in summer. Judging by what you are saying, you have a big one already, so.... next year, there should be an explosion of spikes! 👍🏼 I so look forward to, fast forward this time next year, and read a message from you telling me how beautiful her fragrance is 😉 thank YOU so very much for watching, Alex! Have a great day 🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids if this helps you I usually prepare a spray bottle with 500 ml of water + 1 tea spoon of potassium soap (from Mercadona) + 5-6 ml neem oil. You can also replace neem oil with baby johnson corporal oil. I shake it very well to let it mix properly and spray the plant like crazy ... Entrambi i pacchetti sono stabiliti in roccia lavica e semi idro. Ma come puoi vedere, man mano che maturano, amano anche la leca. 👍🏼 Spero che tu abbia passato uno splendido martedì! Bought something small at the garden centre 3 years ago, and boom! 🤣 👍🏼 fits right in with Cousin It... no nonsense and very rewarding! The Berry 'Oda' has that extra cross in it's parentage, the Johnathan's Glory doesn't but it looks exactly the same from what I can tell in pictures. Care for Berry Oda: Water and feed the hell out of it when growing, ignore it for a couple months, enjoy the blooms. A lot of the kingianum hybrids are easy to care for and are deliciously fragrant, though some are easier to flower than others (they're all easier than the species). You would think the individual blooms would last longer with biggibum and canaliculatum in the parentage.
    Holy Christmas, that is one glorious display though. Shame the aphids attack some of the spikes. I have two other kingi hybrids coming into bloom, I have to photo them tomorrow or the next day. Much better blooming this year versus last year, though still not as good as a couple of years ago. I'm happy with it though.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +2

      Don Miguel 😍💐 I agree that the kingianum on it's own, probably needs a little more targeted care, than what I am throwing at the Berry 'Oda' ... maybe the individual bloom duration has something to do with my climate, but I am already picking off spent blooms before spikes are fully open... not THAT many, but, it happens on the regular. Still... this will last approx 2 months, so, that is all I need to know that it is a keeper, along with the easy care... much like Cousin It 👍🏼 since I blasted the aphids off, and the sprayed the leaves with the garlic solution, no more aphids... I am beginning to really love this garlic alcohol thing! 👍🏼 the new growths on my other latouria dens are so far clean 🤞🏼 Latouria dens unite! Bloom time for them 🤸🏼‍♀️🤸🏼‍♀️ Thank you so very much for taking the time to watch, Michael! Really appreciate your support.... I say it, I mean it!! 😘 have a wonderful day 🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids Individual blooms don't last long on Jonathan's Glory, either, which is really similar in appearance. But, in the main, none of my kingianum hybrids hold blooms long (about a week from when they open to when they fall). It doesn't matter to me that they don't last because I love the look (so cute) and the fragrance of them and I get a couple of weeks out of a spike.

      Bilgehan 🤩💐Hi there!! Good to see you again 🙌🏼 thank you so much for watching again! To my understanding, every Berry Oda is fragrant if the orchid has enough light. The fragrance really develops when the sun shines on the orchid. So, maybe the sellers you are asking are not able to verify that because if they Berry Odas bloom, the orchids are not exposed to direct sun. If you have a seller that you are comfortable with, or you might want to check out Orchideen Wichmann, they have them at a discount price with 6 bloom spikes, here is the link www.orchideen-wichmann.de/en/dendrobium-berry-oda.html I have ordered from Wichmann before and was not disappointed in the quality of their orchids. I do have some keikis in cultivation from my Berry Oda, but they are a long way off performing to such a degree that they will bloom. Sun is important for the fragrance 👍🏼👍🏼 I hope this helps, and I hope that you get yourself a beautiful Berry Oda, because... they are truly amazing! I hope that you are doing well, Bilgehan 🥰🌸

      Hi Ian! 🤗💐 perhaps you can look and see if you can get a real close alternative called Dendrobium Johnathan's Glory? It has one less parent in it than the Berry 'Oda', which has another added hybrid in the parentage, Johanathan's Glory does not have that, but same growth habit, the blooms look the same (as from what I can gather via pics only) and.... same fragrance. Maybe that one is readily available in Canada? thank you so much for being here, Ian, for coming to have a look see! A warm warm welcome to my comments' section, seeing as I have not seen you here before... at least, I hope I did not miss a comment of your's in the past! Have a wonderful day and thank you so much for watching 🌸
