It is so resilient I agree, unlike that damn Phalaenopsis which dies so easily! I didn't even sterilize anything, I transferred the keikis and just trim off all the dried dead roots without thought in mind that it's probably dead anyway as the whole thing is bald and lifeless, other than some trunks still firm and looking OK. So I just stuff everything back into the original pot as how it was, no change of medium or anything. Guess what, the next time about a month later or so, boom, it shoots new babies showing new sign of life! That's when I truly fall in love with this beast! Such survivor!

one of mine gives me double shoots on same cane how exciting, another is giving me 4 shoots, with two on the same cane, another twin. I have 5 of them now blooming, so exciting.
Another unusual part is, there are two pots where their initial shoot seemed to me was like a new keiki then to my surprise it's a flower shoot, but it still has that keiki structure with fatter trunk,I leave them as it is and see what will happen after. This is my favorite orchid, I just bought two of types, they happen to be some of the biggest orchids in the world, the Tiger orchid and also Gatton Sunray, I didn't know they are the giant type until I google with details so I was quite taken aback but now I am excited to see how they'll grow. They are supposed to be like u said, rare, fragrant.

I've had 3 den phals and only one of them flowered for me, which happened when I forgot about it and left it on a south-east facing balcony during a New York City heatwave and without water, so you're absolutely right that they love the heat and bright light. Maybe the high humidity provided sufficient water? No idea how it survived that summer. However, I found it pretty much impossible to bloom these inside a home. The one that survived moved with me to 4 different homes across 3 states, but no. It refused to bloom for me because I was unable to give it that scorching heat each year, which is a real shame because when it bloomed it had a wonderful floral fragrance and the flowers were light pink and pale green in the center with a bit of fuzz on the lip. In my new home, I may be able to provide those kinds of conditions I just described, but I would like to find a fragrant den phal. Do you have any recommendations?

Try it, it's simply the easiest to grow honestly. I dunno why many claim phalaenopsis is easy to care and grow,it is not! It's the most troublesome and I have grown to hate this breed with passion. Dendrobium is the total opposite, it can surprise you even it's being ignored or forgotten for being taken care of.

How do you decide what kind of an orchid you have. Most of the ones I see at the grocery store appear to be PHAPS of some sort, but I have also bought a couple of very narrow leaves. One of them had miniature flowers on it and the other one has an average size flower. I just know that if I just go searching I might not know how to tell. I’m sure it’s complicated for the average person

@@mangobaby2 Hi Robin, speaking for myself, when I began my orchid journey, I purchased Phalenopis from the supermarket but after a while I wanted something different and more challenging to grow indoors. I joined the American Orchid Society, I also started looking for different orchid nurseries to see what types of other orchids were available to purchase. There are so many resources for you to learn from, even if you just want to grow Phals, there are so many different types. So my advice would be research, look for pictures and descriptions and how to grow and see if your space would allow your plants to grow happy. Hope this is helpful. Stay safe and happy growing!! :)

Hi, if they are in bloom now they will bloom next season too tipically, because there is enough time for the new canes to mature. Nobiles in bloom in summer will tipically skip a season, since they won't have time to mature a cane, or they will take their time to adjust to the new climate :)

Have you ever seen the leaves develop circular yellow spots? I’m not sure what is going on with mine but it looks terrible :(

Hi Danny, I purchased Phalaenopsis potting mix and New Zealand moss. Along with some other mediums and moss but I really don't know which one I should use with my dendrobium, can you help? Unfortunately, I watched your "how to identify" video After I purchased the mediums but I'm excited to repot the orchid soon.

What could be wrong when the Dendrobium canes, after making many keikis, just schrivel up completely and don't respond to getting watered ? 🤔 Thanks.

Hi Dani, what category does the Dendrobium anosum fall in? Or is it something totally different?

I have the Nobile from other lady and their leaves are not straight at all, curling and not fully open... Does it a sign of anything because I literally know nothing about this type of orchid. Thank you!

This was great, thank you so much! I am trying to identify all of my orchids down to color name if I can. The purple dendrobium phal in your video is one I have and haven’t been able to find. Do you know the name of it and if so do you mind sharing? Thanks!
