Definitely prefer the sea dweller to the submariner. I've had the amazing chance to purchase this from my AD and I am in love with this watch. I have an 8 inch wrist and the sea dweller 43 looks awesome on it.
I have a Mark II dial from 2019. I've been very happy with the watch. It is a good answer to the Sub that gives some variety in looks and plays bigger. I have 7.5" wrist and it suits my hand/wrist well. I had it sized too tightly for a time and contemplated getting rid of it, but now I've adjusted it perfectly and wear it happily and well. I put it on a rubber b that allows use of the clasp for some variety and fit in the summer time. It's a beast of a watch and really has no competition in this price point. I've put on Deepseas (too top heavy), Blancpains, etc, and the fit and finish, technology combined with classic Rolex diver looks makes this watch tough to beat. I wear it daily. The bottom portion of the case can definitely bite the wrist depending on your wrist shape. Mine is move oval and it sits well, but is happier a little loose. And the cyclops is welcome as my eyes are not what they used to be. It actually plays well in the face diameter.

One of the best reviews of the SD43 I’ve seen. I tried all Rolex SS models but the moment I put this reference on my wrist I knew it will have no competitor. Love the size, the lugs width that both lead to proportions perfection. The wrist presence this watch has is second to none.
I purchased a no date Sub earlier this year... I sold it and picked up an SD43 on Christmas Eve and I haven’t look back, its a much nicer watch IMO and the size and heft just add to the quality and wrist presence. Great review!
Just got a new 2022 Sea Dweller. This is my first Rolex. I was torn between this and a submariner but having a large wrist, I felt the Sea Dweller looked better for me. In the real world, no one is diving with either of these watches. They are too expensive and dive computers are the way to go. But like you said, it’s nice to know you could.
Congratulations! Just picked up my 2022 Sea Dweller around Christmas & love it. Like you, I have a larger wrist, and I think the 43 mm Sea Dweller looks better than the Submariner on it. Interesting that starting with the 2022 SD, Rolex doesn't offer the dive extension anymore (though, admittedly most people end up removing it anyway).
Great video! I think you forgot to touch on a very important and special characteristic of this SD43, is that the dial’s black color is not a Piano Black glossy like the sub, it’s a vintage looking matte washed off black 🙂 You can clearly see it in the light. The effect is a bit like a dark brown/grey color.
I love the Sea-Dweller so much that I bought myself this very model. It is bulky, yes, but it has so much more character than the sterile-looking black Submariner. The red text and 60 minute graduations on the bezel make a big difference. I also love the little crown on the dial (ie. MK 2)
I need some advice from Rolex owners out there. I been working with Rolex AD to buy my first Rolex. I get a call today Dec 10 he has a 2022 Sea Dweller 126600 Red line just came in from Rolex brand new for me and to buy at retail. I had originally told him I wanted anything Submariner or Gmt in Oystersteel. Appointment is tomorrow. Any Rolex I buy will be with me forever. I know this is not as popular as other two. Would anyone here still buy this if they were in my position? Were you still happy you bought this? Plus I see they do not hold value long term like other models either. Don't know what to do plus do not want to piss off AD. Help! Serious replies only, Thanks.
The sea dweller red has took over the sub by far and is my favourite rolex. I'm sure it will go up in value massively when rolex remove the red writing
Mine gets here tomorrow. I had the deepsea and sold it. Proportions were off. Especially the bracelet. I know they fixed it in 2020 but this is the ultimate. I'll never sell it. It's perfect. I love my 40mm rolex's too, (16000 sub and 16750 GMT) but this is next level.
Great review. I just decided to get the MK1 a couple days ago. I was hesitate to choose either SD4000 or this SD43. I am glad I chose the 43 and your review answered all the points I had.
Brilliant review and I do love this red line. Stop it though... you've got me thinking / justifying that this would be the perfect fit between my Hulk and James Cameron 😅
Well, just got mine yesterday 😊😊. And wasn't even aware, til watching this nice video, of how massively improved it is with respect to the previous SD, let alone the submariner.. super happy with it.. thanks a lot!
Excellent review! You hit the sweet spot when you mentioned how great it feels to turn the bezel. It certainly differentiates from cheap to high quality mechanism. I’m a sucker for detail.
I have the SD 43, apparently Mark 1, actually didn't know there was a difference. Bought it new in 2018, and is my daily watch, even with a 16 cm wrist I find it very comfortable. Love it very much and definitely prefer it to the sub. The only (small) minus are the sharp serrations, they really damage the cuffs of my shirts. Great video!

Great, no - excellent review of this impressive watch. I'm due to get mine from my A.D. In under 7 months. I have an excellent authorized dealer! Thank you very much. We agree, the Deep Sea James Cameron is a beautiful watch with an amazing dial but the size is too big for the average wrist. I've tried it on and I felt like the watch was wearing me rather than me wearing the watch.
An excellent Review, and a beautiful watch with a very interesting history; one of my absolute favorite ROLEX watches , maybe even the most beautiful one. Thank you very much. Tom/ Germany...
I have a sea dweller 16600 (2004) and love it, I saw this 125500 a few years ago in a dealers in Krakow and instantly wanted it. I was very lucky and got one from an AD in London after only being on the wait list for 3 weeks! The kicker is that I am struggling to like it on my wrist? Excellent review, thanks.

Amazing video. I think this is one of the best rolexes in general. I tried on the deep sea sea dweller James Cameron, it felt nice hut not 13k nice haha. This red label sea dweller is awesome looking. I think the submariner is a rip off for what it is. This watch is better in nearly every way and is a few thousand cheaper haha. The only thing about the submariner, is that it will fit more people globally and is not to big or small. This one is slightly bigger.
Excellent review. Well done. I have bought a Yacht Master, GMT Batgirl, a Panda Daytona & a Tudor GMT Pepsi over the past 18 months. I managed to buy my first Rolex from the AD 1 week ago. I was lucky to get the SD. Beautiful watch & very happy that I chose it over a black Submariner Date. I am looking forwards to complete my set with a green bezel 41mm submariner and a Datejust 41mm Wimbledon. Any suggestions?

I’m on a “list” at my AD. Please please please!! Also the actual scoop on the cyclops is because when they increased the size from 40 to 43mm, that put the date window too far away from the edge of the watch and weirdly too close to the centre so the placement of the cyclops makes the date window appear larger and more appropriately placed on the face.
43mm Red Letter SD - ALL Day Long Son! Never - Ever - considered the SubM - too boring, too small, too common. Blah Blah Blah. Or the James Cameron As it happens - these are the only two Rolex's I own
I see that these are coming in at about 12K . Is that a good price in the United States? I have an 8 inch wrist, so this would work great. I've never owned an expensive watch and I'm looking at this is my first purchase. I know it's a big watch, and I know it's heavy, but I have worn heavy watches with no issues.
It is mind boggling how this watch is not more popular than it is, because I have never seen anyone outside of myself that has owned one. I see try-hards all of the time with Submariner's but never a Sea Dweller.
So, you critique the submariner by saying the glide lock offers “way too much” extension, yet you praise the sea dweller for adding more extension… nice
Regarding Rolex submariner killer. I liked your video. I agree that the Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 in stainless steel or two tone is superior to the sub-mariner. Hard to beat the solid gold submariner though if one has that kind of money which I do not. However, I'm intending on buying the Rolex two-tone Sea-Dweller model 166603. Would you please do a video on the Rolex two-tone Sea-Dweller? It has the same functionality as the all steel Sea-Dweller but it's far more beautiful. Thanks, Steve.
I'm an Oris man generally. Wear a 46 mm Titanium and it's beautiful, as is my Aquis. If I was gonna buy a Rolex to invest and flip for profit, would probably look at the Sub, the GMT, Explorer, day date etc. If I want a Rolex to wear, admire and enjoy every day. It's this one. Period.
Hearing so much hype around the sub I was very discouraged trying it on. Thought it was boring and extremely over priced. The sea dweller is the exact opposite, and the watch I wear everyday.
I need some advice from Rolex owners out there. I been working with Rolex AD to buy my first Rolex. when I saw this online prior to going on sale to the public, I was in love. Had to have it. I found one at an AD in LA and grabbed one for my B-day. She is a beauty! However, for my daily driver I like the feel of my Submariner Hulk.
Silly when they call something a "submariner killer", omega or SD.. you cant even buy a sub, they dont last at the AD for more than a day. Let me know when they need to discount Subs to sell them, then you have a "sub killer"
Found one today at an AD and it was big on my wrist (7.5 inches). I walked out not purchasing it and have been thinking of it non stop. I called back lasted on the afternoon and it was sold. While it was big it sat very well on the wrist and I’ve lost my opportunity.
7:15 Your explanation of the helium escape valve’s function is incorrect. You stated that pressure increases inside the watch while surfacing. That is not what happens. As the watch is brought closer to the surface and the ambient pressure drops closer to one atmosphere, the pressure inside the watch remains at the elevated pressure because of the helium that had leaked in but was unable to leak back out quickly enough. This significant pressure gradient from outside the watch to inside the watch is what causes the crystal to pop off. The helium escape valve allows the helium that is under high pressure inside the watch to leak out faster and prevent this pressure gradient from developing as the ambient pressure drops while surfacing.

I've never owned an expensive watch and I'm looking at this is my first purchase. I know it's a big watch, and I know it's heavy, but I have worn heavy watches with no issues.
Kudos for a very well done video! loved it! whats the waitlist for this watch at your local Rolex AD - Mine in Dubai is about 3/4 months
Thank you very much.
If you are a high spender with a good relationship with an AD, your probably still looking at a 12 month wait in the UK.
Very good review of a very nice watch but unfortunately it is just to big, just like the Deepsea...
Yes, the Sea-Dweller and Deepsea are definitely on the larger side.
I would choose it over the sub every day all day. But a big reason is that I have a 8.5 inch wrist
I tried to listen to the bezel clicks, but all I could hear was shitty music only a deaf person would appreciate. 6:20
Don't care for the gray washed black dial, Rolex Submariner 116610LN for the win.🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Love the splash of red but not a fan of the chunky size and cyclops.
it would be nice if you had a real anniversary in 2017, the year of production, this one is not 50, so the video makes no sense
when I saw this online prior to going on sale to the public, I was in love. Had to have it. I found one at an AD in LA and grabbed one for my B-day.
She is a beauty! However, for my daily driver I like the feel of my Submariner Hulk.
Deepsea it s the best diver watch
Silly when they call something a "submariner killer", omega or SD.. you cant even buy a sub, they dont last at the AD for more than a day. Let me know when they need to discount Subs to sell them, then you have a "sub killer"
Sigh ! Always no stock
You do not need music; consequently, we could not hear the bezel clicks. Otherwise excellent video.
Found one today at an AD and it was big on my wrist (7.5 inches). I walked out not purchasing it and have been thinking of it non stop. I called back lasted on the afternoon and it was sold. While it was big it sat very well on the wrist and I’ve lost my opportunity.

Your explanation of the helium escape valve’s function is incorrect.
THE 50th ANNIVERSARY SD DOES NOT HAVE THE CROWN ON THE 6 O ‘CLOCK SWISS MADE POSITION. MISINFORMATION!!!!
Nice watch but the DEEPSEA is the daddy!
Sea dweller > Submariner
