My wife of 27 years died last month from cancer, the same month that I retired. I cannot do anything about that. However, I can choose my attitude and how I respond. You are correct, thanks.

@@sammajor2075 I am going to start the application for my visa today. I find that when I am down, exercise and/or hard yard work, cutting, splitting and stacking wood for example helps. When my friends have dragged me out I still strive to be the best dressed wherever we go. The first time was the hardest, when I pulled up in my Vette and they the valet parking staff asked, "Where is your beautiful wife?" That hurt.

I’ve read this book several times and I will read it again if I live. Logotherapy, in my opinion, is Zen for westerners.
Another book that should be required reading is “Night” written by Elie Wiesel.

My character gap would probably be the fact that I have not yet become the author I always wanted to be. Your comment when you said "To fulfill the demand in life" really put into perspective that I do not have to be like other authors, that I do not have to compare my skill constantly to others, that I indeed have the ability to create a universe, a story and all the characters I've been daydreaming and brainstorming about for many years now. Thank you for this message, it made me realise that I can find meaning in simply aknowledging that I can make it my own goal, my own meaning in life.

A personal gap that i want to fulfill is undeniably how poor and broken I am now to a respected personality, a person who is the sole reason why his parents are respected, a person who will marry the love of his life, a person who will always be remembered as someone who was able to climb up, what seemed like an impossible peak to climb to, flawlessly.

A personal gap I’ve been working on recently is between how wise and disciplined I am now, and how wise and disciplined I will become. It seems like some of the lessons can only be taught by living life, but I want to be the man people can come to for help. Not always for answers, but the courage to not give up and solve problems themselves.

Part of the problem may be that young men - or young people in general - allow social media or other people tell them how masculinity or femininity should be defined. In other words, they "drink the kool-aid" instead of being taught and encouraged to think for themselves. Not all of them, certainly, but I've seen it in my own children but they seem to be moving away from the herd mentality, thank God.

From Susanne Cook-Greuter's refinement of Loevinger's stages of development, essentially at the highest levels of ego functioning, the criticality of meaning making is discarded.
Not in the nihilistic sense, but because meaning making at this stage is understood as just another way for the ego to protect itself. Personally I'd rather remain on the slightly lower, autonomous stage that focuses on self-actualization as the ultimate objective, but it's interesting to see that, in the pursuit of ego transcendence, one apparently must acknowledge that everything people do is done for the ego.

    -It is a helpful book
-It is certainly a good idea to read this book, before hitting rock bottom :>
