    I have seen w115 w,123, w124 taxis with over 500,000 miles. Maintenace is key, from day one.

    Just spent $15,000 on rebuilding the engine on my W116. Had the oil changed and the person doing the work stripped the oil filter housing. 150,000 miles on the clock. 😱

    My W202 C220 just clocked 500,000 and running strong with a replacement of a mass air flow sensor. My parents bought it in 1995 in Portland, Or. At the MB dealer downtown and hope to keep it the rest of my life to hit 1 Million. Keep in mind it has had work done to it but well worth the investment. It was in the basement all by itself at the dealer and was the most affordable Benz at the time if not ever... 28K - zero miles.

      I also own a 83 W126 SD300 that has over 750,000. She is a charm and all the work has been done to it to make it drive like new. Here's to 1.5mil!

    I drive an automatic W202 C250D OM605.910 with just over 420 000 km's on the clock. Although the engine is still going strong, I recently swapped out my 722.427 for a 722.4xx from a W124 300E because my reverse packed up. I get a constant of 10km/L whether open road diving or inner city driving. Every time I visit the parts store for my service kit they ask why I've been so scarce.🙂

    Pierre points to something very telling here about American owners of these classic Benzes: we buy them because we like them, not because we depend on them for our livelihoods. Thus, we tend to rack up way fewer miles than the same car that lives somewhere in the Middle East or Africa. We baby them, we don't drive them that much, and when something like the A/C breaks, many of us complain about it and see it as a "broken" car, whereas on the opposite side of the world, most people wouldn't even care and would keep driving it while only doing basic maintenance as needed. For most American Mercedes-Benz owners, these cars are luxury cars (even the classics)... which again points to our general unwillingness to sit in the same car for a million miles. Racking up that many miles takes a lot of effort and time, and most of us would rather split up the journey by driving several different cars.
    Also, I always thought Pierre was Persian like me because of his last name. Guess I was wrong!

    I love my Older Mercedes 😅 I have a "newer vehicle " however I daily my w126 to an from work.
    It's to bad we didn't get the 300sd in South Africa or the 0m617 turbo diesel engine.
    So I made my one as close to the 300sd as I could.
    I wish i could find a true 300sd motor here to play with.
    My current motor is out of My w123 300D that was a first car rusted away and when my w126 280se ate a bearing.. I basically reringed my 0m617 stuck it in the w126 body and crossed my fingers.. and it was brilliant not fast but economical on fuel and went well.. drove it like that for 2 years before I turbocharged it with a low boost setup.. it doesn't help much with speed but does help a bit going up hills and sounds good 😂.
    That motor must have at least 400000km or more on it.. when I opened it the bearings had no scuffing or signs of wear.. still going strong today but have a major rear seal leak that needs sorting but will get there soon.

    I believe the Real Take Away of this Video is that Mercedes specifically and autos in general have to be maintained and eventually parts repaired and/or replaced as millage and time dictate and that's when You must Decide is that Worth it to me?

    I have three W124's. One with 160K, one with 250k and the last one with 550K, they are awesome cars that I enjoy working and maintaining.

    Average miles , usually was 350k before needed rebuild . The early 220d s did not last more then 150k due to soft blocks , the fix was to use steel sleeves .

    Keep it simple, Pierre. Less bells and whistles results in a longer lasting product? I was very disappointed when my 2003 Corolla CE gave up after 489k km. Manual windows and gearbox confounded my kid's friends too.

      489k from a corolla is petty good. I don't think the new MB cars will last that long.

    I drive my 300d for 365days is Scotland... Well maybe 350 days as a few days reserved for the service, maintenance and minor repairs...

    0.55 A W115 turbo diesel? That's a new one on me.
    My daily driver has a OM602 with nearly 400,000 miles on it. One head rebuild.

    What about chassis rust etc? Would they need to be repaired like subframes?

      Depends where you live.. particularly if there's no road salt, and possibly infrequent rain or little humidity.

    For the record, I have a 1985 300 CD with "only" 254,000 miles with complete service history from brand new. The engine went to 248,000 miles before corrosion on the cylinder block created a coolant leak. The engine was removed and then rebuilt by Metric Motors who said that the block deck needed to be machined to stop the leak and the injection pump and cylinder bores showed a lot of wear. The compression was also low in the middle cylinder. 3000 miles after rebuilding the engine the cylinder head had to be removed to replace a bad head gasket (genuine Mercedes part). The car is back on the road. Still needs work on the climate control system, and the front suspension is clunking again after being completely rebuilt with Mercedes parts where ever I could get them. Some suspension parts are NLA from Mercedes. So far this car has been a WHOLE lot of work and not much to show for the fabled Mercedes W123 reliability! Hopefully I can get it together this spring and keep it rolling for another 250k.

      Lemforder upper ball joint and Febi Bilstein for the lower ball joint. Mercedes for guide rod, antiroll bushings, control arm bushings.

    1,000,000 miles? Might as well be a million light years for me. My odometer had been acting up on my 83 300cd recently, and fixed it to comply with whatever regulations; but I drive it so infrequently that it begs the question whether I need an odometer, especially in winter. The engine might hit a million in about 180 years but by then the rest of the car will have been mummified with all the cosmetic surgery and preservatives.

    Gasoline engines, all in all, are far more durable than diesel engines. Fight me.

      @@DieselPurge Gasoline engines don’t need such high compression. Their emissions systems are far simpler and cheaper. Power is similar. Diesel gets better fuel mileage, in extreme towing. But that’s about it.
