Well, Pete and Walter Ray have already been bowling the Senior events for a while now. They've done them in addition to the regular Tour events. WRW is right, though, When you bowl your best games and you almost never cash anymore, it's probably time to stop.
Maturity from a historically immature pro. I have watched his entire career and rooted against him at first but in the 1990s became his fan. Mr Weber is the most exciting and flamboyant pro bowler ever.
He was entertaining and made his dad proud.
He was a beast bowling. No one ever bowled with as much passion!

I'm 50 and been watching Pete since 1980 and my grandfather talked to me about his dad Dick. He's been bowling for 41 years on TV. Truly one of the greats of all time. If you count the time his dad was in bowling the family has been in it what 60 plus years? Incredible.

I met Pete a few years back at a best bowling pro shop warehouse sale. I was star struck I was in the same room with Pete Weber. Very approachable guy and he posed in a pic with me and my girlfriend. I'll never forget it.
I'm 59. I've been bowling since i was 8. I've won a lot of money in those houses in Detroit and the suburbs. I've watched PDW my entire life. We act the same thats why they call me spazman. I loved watching him because he took no ahit from anybody. And he definitely let you know what time it was. Throw strikes mofo's or go home. I didnt go pro because i had a family and at 20 you ask yourself do you have what it takes. Sure i had backers but i stayed home. Pete Weber was my way of living vicariously through pete. I just loved watching this guy bowl. My parents loved his dad, my god rest his soul. Pete Weber, brother i know where your at and i know how it feels. But Man you i think single handedly brought bowling and great competition back in the spot light. Forget that mamma's boy crap and lets talk some trash and get on it. Enjoy your time off. Have fun with life brother. Who knows we may even see each other on the senior tour. To one of the worlds greatest bowlers, Thank you Mr. Weber.
I used to laugh at those who called bowling a real sport with athletes until I joined a league.
Much like golf, anyone CAN do it, but very few can do it at a high level on a regular basis.
Golf and bowling are consistency sports, which is why they get less respect. Your drunk uncle bowls a 290 or gets a lucky hole-in-one once, and everybody says "How hard can this sport be?" The tiny adjustments golfers and bowlers make are often invisible to spectators and they are what make the professionals really good. But people have trouble seeing it.
bowling and golf and tennis are not sports. period.
@@sigbauer9782 I would agree but sports is just competition, bowling just isn't athletic. being an athlete requires physical greatness. Sports require skill. So bowling is a sport just not athletics.

I was in the crowd the fateful day Pete shouted the famous words “Who do you think you are? I am!” I remember that he didn’t talk to the spectators that day, he went right to the practice pair. I remember he joked with Jason Belmonte that if they were in the finals he would bowl two handed and Belmo would bowl one handed, then promptly threw a two handed shot into the gutter. Pete, it was fun to watch you on TV. I’ve used your style as a building block for my game, although I’ve been told I highly resemble Chris Barnes nowadays.

It's so heartbreaking to see this.. I grew up watching him, Duke, Walter Ray, Parker Bohn, Amleto, and many others, when the PBA was still on ESPN. You guys are what got me into bowling competitively. I WILL NEVER forget all that guys like Pete and everyone else have done in this great loved sport. Thank you Pete!!

He understood that bowling isn't the goal, it's a vehicle to provide entertainment. Every sport needs more faces and heels. The problem is finding someone both able to be a big personality and able to compete at the highest level. He's a special guy that did everything he could to leave the game better than he found it.

I have some fond memories watching you when I was younger, I started bowling when I was about 8 years old, bowled my first 200 game in 1981 at 10 yrs old. My favorite place was Northland Bowling lanes and then Dick Weber lanes in Florissant. And that was a thrill watching every weekend. I wouldn't miss it and saw a couple practices when you were playing in town. Though other said I threw hard like Mark Roth you were my inspiration! We did meet a couple times when I was younger. You were so cool and your shades lol your dad was such a nice man. Great bowler as well. You had a great career. Gosh I loved watching you. Anyway best of luck and just know this girl here is and will always be your fan!!

This had to be the saddest day in bowling history. Whether he's on the senior tour, or in the PBA he'll always be the most entertaining bowler ever to walk the face of the earth. Thank you for all the memories Pete!

It's kind of funny because I met him maybe about 10 or so years ago in Raleigh, NC and for some reason asked him "Are you still bowling?" and he said "Oh yeah I'm going to bowl in this tournament and then that one...etc. I guess that was not his time and now it sounds like it is. But I'm glad to hear he will still bowl on the Senior tour. Real nice guy to meet but he was a beast on the lanes!

I've been watching pba videos on youtube and other places for years. Ever since I got into bowling, I never stopped watching, I even watched pba matches from the earlier years, I'm talking 1980's. I was always so fascinated with the sport of bowling and it's icons, and you were one of my all time favorites to watch back then and even up till now, you have and always will be an inspiration, thx for the memories Pete, you will be missed
Pete is a top 5 all time great. He can play any shot and win, and has the BEST RELEASE in PBA history. He is the most fun to watch and a big asset to the PBA. Continued sucess.

Hard to find a better release ever in bowling. He’s right about his mom. I got to know her when she would get her hair done every Wednesday as the mailman at the salon. She would be so excited when he made the TV show still and we would talk about his matches. I remember a week or so after the infamous who do you think you are unreal us open moment, I walked in and she was beaming to make sure I watched it live. Pete was always entertaining. It wont be the same without him.

The true definition of the PBA just retired ..a sad day when he announced it last week..he restored the game as the "bad boy" when bowling was crashing in the ratings..we'll miss you Pete!..God bless and thank you for 41 years of being amazing!

Pete, thank you for everything that you have done for the great game of bowling, thank you for making everything so exciting, thank you for the characteristics that you brought to bowling, thank you for being the one goofball that wore sunglasses that used to yell and sometimes get pissed off on live TV, I think that’s awesome that you brought that kind of entertainment to the great sport of bowling and without your personality PBA would not be what it is today without you you truly deserve every achievement and every award and every championship win because you gave your heart and soul practicing day in and day out wanting to compete at a high-level and thanks to your father teaching you so much about this great sport both of you are now Hall of Famers and I’m truly blessed to see you bow down the way you are doing and you are truly an ambassador for the sport even if you are on the senior tour You changed the sport of bowling in the last 40 years and so from a fellow bowler to another fellow bowler I say thank you and may God bless you and I wish you the absolute best with other things you want to accomplish in your life besides for the senior tour, you are truly one of the greatest bowlers of all time!!

Saturday was my favorite day of the week in the late 70s early 80s, PBA bowling. Damn time flies
As a kid growing up and bowing in St Louis, there was no one bigger than PDW. He was great to us kids. He was never annoyed with us when he was bowing league or just hanging out. Great guy that was greatly misunderstood.
A great force in the PBA. Bowled with him in a PBA stop pro am at Don Carter Lanes in Dallas. Was great to be able to talk to him. Always exciting to watch.

Pete Weber, and the whole PDW pro wrestling character he adopted in the early 2000s essentially single handedly saved the PBA and got back fan interest that was thought to be long gone. Sure it was a bit silly at times. But not only did he work that gimmick, he bowled like a beast while working that gimmick. Without him performing at the level he did, the gimmick doesn't work. If you don't think he's top three greatest of all time, it's just because you don't like the guy, and not because of his body of work.

I'm a league bowler in NM but, I try to enter many of the local tournaments as I'm the caregiver for my wife. Hoping to get to Henderson this year as I qualified for the USBC 2020 Senior Championships. Thank you for reaching out and, now I have more reason to follow you!!!
Did you have to get your ball drilled differently to use a golf glove? I’ve considered it. You just use a standard glove?
@@TraumaER Like Pete, I've taken off the thumb. The inserts for the fingers are a little larger to accommodate the glove. The nice thing is that once you do the first one, every drilling after that uses the same size inserts.
Remember to wear your glove when you check the drilling. It has 2 benefits for me: enhanced grip during release and no calluses during prolonged sessions. I usually practice 18 game sessions for a typical tournament. As for the glove itself, just a typical leather golf glove. I use an HJ Gripper Micro-Fiber Right hand glove. This is where it gets interesting. A right hand glove is for Left-handed golfers and vice versa for Right-handed golfers. I've had interesting conversations at the sports store Lol. Also, since the glove does wear out, I order them in bulk from Amazon. I wear a Large size for dress leather gloves but, for bowling I wear a Men's size ML. It gives me a tighter fit. Perfect for my bowling. My suggestion is to buy the first glove at a Sporting goods store where you can try it on for comfort. Sorry for the long post but, I wanted to make sure I gave you as much info as possible. Good luck and happy bowling!!!
@@donshields9152 thanks for detailed info. I thought about it after my January tournament that left my middle finger torn up badly. I literally ended up bowling a month with just my thumb and ring finger. Still averaged 200+ in league, but bowling like that was depressing as my rev rate dropped significantly. I will consider the glove for the reasons you described and also for consistency. Some nights my hands sweat, swell, are dry, already use tape on my thumb and tape on my fingers - all to get a consistent release. Pete was ahead of his time. Might as well just wear a glove and solve all that nonsense. I just bought more tape last week. $20 for like 3 packs. And who is pricing this stuff out LOL? It's just tape. But oh it is VISE so it must be treated like gold LOL! I currently use a wrist brace so I'm trying to get out it it. Never used one when I was younger, and at times, it is aggravating to use - causes my hand to sweat and still feels unnatural to how I used to bowl. Can't really cup my wrist when it's locked in. It's just another variable I hate. But yeah, good info. Thanks!

I literally have no knowledge in PBA or have even watched a bowling match. But I know greatness when I see it. Idk why this was recommended to me but respect to him I know he was probably one of the goats out there.
My favorite bowler always rooted for you pete , we are three weeks seperated in age and i feel like my ball has never hit harder but i dont have a 1000th of the wear and tear that you do , best of luck and hopefully one day i can bowl in the pba 50 and biwl against you , would be the biggest honor of my life in bowling!

I saw Pete bowl for my first time in Houston and I became a fan. I am going to miss him and his antics. I just wish I could have been able to bowl with him in a pro-am.

I always loved watching him bowl and he was always so full of energy, and he let everyone know what bowling meant to him and whenever he won a major tournament his excitement level was off the charts, and when he was having a bad night he was animated but that happens to pros as well as league bowlers and he was one of my favorites to watch and he had a lot of respect for the game of bowling as well as all the bowlers he ever faced because that is who Pete was whether you loved him or hated him you watched and his father Dick Weber was one hell of a bowler! but his "who do you think you are.....I AM!" is one of my favorite lines from PDW.......And thank you Pete so very much and your mom and dad are looking down on you with big smiles on their faces and saying "job well done son!" and you should be very proud for all you accomplished in the sport of professional bowling and I want to wish you the best of luck on the senior tour and hope that you win many more titles on that tour as well! God bless you PDW!!!

Ive known about Pete Weber for a while because of the "who do you think you are, i am" video, but it sucks that i recently got into bowling for real and he's retiring. Missed out on his PBA career but have watched pleanty to know how much of a HOF legend pete is. Love watching this dude bowl.

That’s depressing but I know what you mean. It’s not the way they depict it on TV. It’s poverty money unless you are making shows. You live bad, eat bad, drink bad, and grind daily.

@@bigmike1114 you got that right. I was a season ticket holder for the Washington Nationals minor league team and the players, who might be 5% away in terms of skill from the majors, are making $25-50 per game. That is insanity to me.
@@TraumaER the average minor league player makes 8k a year which is way below poverty and which means they have to get a job while playing baseball
@@bigmike1114 yeah the whole system sucks. Just the idea that some of those players are a lucky week or month away from getting pulled to the MLB. I saw him for the Potomac Nationals and now he's making $340,000,000.

He’s always been my favorite bowler. He made bowling look good and gave it edge. Met him in 2007 at an event after it was over. He was incredibly nice. Especially considering he didn’t win it. Jack Jurek, Tommy Delutz Jr, Mike Scroggins, and Chris Barnes were the other 4. Jack Jurek was off putting cuz he just bounced out after he lost his match. Barnes spent the whole time discussing with Carmen Salvino what he did wrong cuz he lost too so he seemed distracted the whole time even when fans asked him for pictures and autographs. Delutz was real nice and so was Scroggins who won. I went outside and found Weber smoking and asked him for a pic and autograph. He was so nice and did both with his full attention. True class act. Forever my favorite bowler. Sorry to see him quit the main circuit but at least he did it on his own terms.
Every time I ever had the chance to shoot a 300, I always remembered the words of wisdom you shared to help make it through the 10th frame, and every time I ever had the chance at a 300, I got it. Thank you PDW for all you’ve given to this sport we all dearly love. Who do you think you are!! I Am!! Will live forever. 💯🎳👍🏼
