  • Happy Mental Health Awareness Month! Today, we’re sharing a vlog from Star Wars Day 2021 (May the Fourth be with You!) when Rog took a much needed mental health day from his work as a teacher. Whether you have a chronic illness or are a caregiver, or just need a break, mental health matters, and mental health days are important and necessary to avoid further stress, burnout, and the overwhelm and anxiety of daily life.
Making your mental health a priority is just as important as making your physical health a priority, and they also go hand in hand (along with your spiritual health).
We had a great day together! We gave ourselves permission to rest and just ‘be’, and after Rog made a trip to Walmart for retail therapy, and to grab some breakfast for teacher appreciation week, we enjoyed some Star Wars/Mandalorian/Baby Yoda LEGO set building (and recorded a timelapse!), and watched the Atlanta Braves play some baseball! (Chop on!)
May is the designated awareness month for many things, and while not all apply to me or to us, a few of them do, including: Mental Health Awareness Month, Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Awareness Month. We’ll be sharing more as we’re able this month, but wanted to first share with you this message about the importance and necessity of letting yourself take mental health days and giving your mind the same kind of rest you give your body when it needs it.
You have no obligation to always be what hustle culture deems ‘productive.’ Sometimes, letting yourself rest without feeling guilt IS productive, and is exactly what you need for your body, mind, and soul.
Give yourself grace. You're allowed to rest, and it's actually one thing God models for us directly. Since we're made in God's image, and since we know even God had to rest after creating the world, why on earth would we think we don't deserve rest?! Get yo rest on!

You two seem like such a lovely couple, love how you interacted here. Well needed break with the rain LOL. Plan Bs thru Z are needed with chronic illness for sure. Happy anniversary!! We are currently planning to get married this September.

Thank you! We just try to keep it real and be ourselves, and we’ve had a lot of practice with learning to laugh and making the best out of any situation we face over the past decade. The rain and break from mowers was definitely awesome!
Agreed, all of us living this life need plans Bs through Z, and while it may seem overkill to some, we know it’s best if we have multiple options to account for anything that may happen.
Congrats on your upcoming wedding and marriage! What an exciting journey you’re about to start! I mean, I know it starts long before the vows are said, but it’s a while new chapter and I’m sitting here smiling for you as I type this. Praying over your wedding in the months to come!
