“Build things” gameplay is such a cheap way to give the illusion of value/content. Just make some of the developer tools available to end users and tell them, “off you go and build something more interesting than we can be bothered to create”.
Certainly far cheaper than hiring expensive writers, actors, level designers, etc.

Me and my wife have played non-stop since launch. This game just hits a really nice chill spot. After a long week, we decompress and just interact with other players, build camps, do scoreboard challenges, and we are really satisfied just doing that on weekend nights. Never gets old for us

    • @hyperturbotechnomike
      @hyperturbotechnomike 12 дней назад +11

My wife and me did daily ops and later expedition speedruns for a while, which can be very challenging, especially double mutation. But the last update broke a lot of stuff.
The scoreboard challenges are often kinda dumb and especially she doesn't like them much, for example the ones where they want the player to repair armour and weapons or killing rare enemy types. On public servers they are always dead or restricted to timed events like honey beasts.
For relaxation, our favourite game is No Man's Sky, especially the base building is more refined and bases can be really large.

If you have Prime Gaming you can claim this for free right now!
I've always thought the map design and mood is amazing in 76, the best of the series, but the quests and storytelling feels like an afterthought, probably because they were added after launch. It's clear the idea was to give us an awesome, mostly empty world to populate, but nobody wanted that.

I randomly downloaded this game on a whim a while ago and thoroughly enjoyed my play through. There’s a lot of exploring to do, the game is beautiful- I love the sunsets personally, I enjoyed the main quests and the community playing it is generally very nice and helps new players! And I’d say the community is what really had me on the game for months on end! When I was a new player I had people drop me tons of ammo, stim paks, outfits and just show me around the map, show me how stuff works and I had a lot of stuff. Main reason I stopped playing is because it’s a grind to max everything out after the story and I stopped playing for while so I fell behind. Still love the base building, you’ll come across some amazing builds in almost every lobby! It really is a fun game and I’d recommend anyone to at least give it a shot :)

I’ve been playing it recently with friends, and honestly, my experience has been pretty shit.
I started the game but restarted a short bit after making my character (To rectify the god-awful innate frame rate cap) and upon reloading was placed outside the vault. I spent about an hour walking around trying to figure out wtf to do, before my friends asked if I’d gotten a choice to choose level 20 or not.
The game basically barred me from the most important choice as a new player, as well as barring me from being able to make a CAMP, understand the food/drink system and multiple other inherent gameplay aspects.
I am actually enjoying this game, but I am baffled by how shit it is sometimes. Most quests are just “go there, talk, come back, listen to me yap for 5 minutes”. A good bit of the time, glitches are absolutely EVERYWHERE. I’ve got about 50 clips at this point of some bogus, hilarious glitches, as well as a plethora of visual glitches and not-so-hilarious gameplay glitches, like being completely stuck in place for a few minutes, or being unable to move after stopping moving for a second.
But whatever. I guess since I’m playing it anyways, it’s doing its job as a game. It’s entertaining seeing the mess that is the code.
Editing here because I was reminded of the base building. It sucks. It is just bad, clunky, unresponsive, and extremely janky. I spend about 30 minutes making a base and by the end of it felt like I had a degree in architecture. It’s abhorrent how bad the system is, especially since it’s a big selling point (or was, as far as I can remember)

I was going to pre order it back in the day but then I ended up playing a free weekend and it had some graphical issues a couple of years ago. I then saw that it was on PS Plus Extra, so I downloaded it and found out that they fixed some issues and increased the frame rate which made the game playable.
I might end up purchasing it either on disc or on sale depending on which is cheapest. I've not played 76 in a couple of months and pretty much gave up once I'd unlocked expeditions and found out that they're extremely difficult solo and I have no friends.

2:19 - This is the thing that I think most casual gamers don't get. The idea of genre over brand. Just because you love Fallout 3, NV, and 4 does not mean you will/or should love 76. Because 76 is, first and foremost, an MMO. If you don't like MMOs, you won't like 76
3:43 - This is the nature of multiplayer games in general, especially MMO/live service games. Due to the law of thermodynamics (lol) there's only so many resources to go around. So, you're able to pour so much more into a single player game. If they made a Last of Us MMO, people would crap their pants. First from excitement then out of anger. Because they'd want something that matched the beauty of the single player TLOU2, but that wouldn't be possible.
This means so much of the depth and immersion you find in single player FO games is missing in 76
9:10 - "...once you do compare it to Fallout 3, New Vegas, ...
If you find yourself doing that, you're already on the wrong track. It's like saying "Once you compare Elder Scrolls Online to Skyrim..." or "Once you compare Fallout Tactics to Fallout: New Vegas"...
That said, there's no defense for bad writing. It's unfortunately that it seems many of the quests and world building seems half-assed, but for everything else -- if you understand the limitations and nature of an MMO, Fallout 76 is solid B- which isn't bad at all.

The big difference that ultimately made me stay playing for thousands of hours and what he failed to mention is the camp building! It can keep me busy for hours and hours on end, Also a lot of people lose that spark when they finish the story but with 76 they run events all day long every 20 minutes and it’s a team event where many players can join. They run seasonal events where the event is a theme with its own rewards and plans to build in your camp. Right now we have mutated events where you get a package with rare items, guns etc, every hour on the hour it’s starts. This is fallout but a completely different fallout and if you come in thinking it’ll be a story driven game you’ll be let down but if you look at it like a multiplayer game you will enjoy it.

But atoms (the premium currency) is grindable from challenges and season pass (which is also free)
I have about 50k worth of store items solely from playing the game
It did take years, but it’s really important to mention I think, cause a lot of people will look at it in a different way

This game is far from perfect, but this video is not doing it justice as a multiplayer Fallout game. Most of the aspects criticized in this video aren’t that big of a deal in my opinion. I came back to this game after 4 years, and these are the key features that I am enjoying:
    • It has a lot of in-game public events that keep you entertained at all levels, giving you the chance to obtain some of the best legendaries in the game.
    • Housing is one of the key features of this game, with many ways to add your personal touch to your camp. You can set up your own store and sell stuff to other players.
    • It’s a very active game with many random players to play with.
    • The community is very friendly, especially with newcomers.
    • There are plenty of quests and areas to explore, for real.
    • A crafting system that allows you to craft the standard Fallout items, as well as props you can place in your camp.
    • A great and cool perk system that allows you to build whatever character you want.
    • Endgame is fun, and there are harder variations of events that increase the challenge and improve rewards.
    • The cash shop is purely for cosmetics and items for your camp (some of these items facilitate grinding, but nothing too extreme).
    • Daily dungeon-like missions that change every time.
    Cons:
    • Performance is not that great. You can edit the .ini file to remove Vsync, which will unlock the FPS, but since it’s a bug, I am listing it as a con.
    • The world isn’t as sandbox-like as a single-player Fallout experience, for obvious reasons, as this is a multiplayer game.
    • Some features like Private Worlds are locked behind the Fallout 1st subscription.
The game is good, and I recommend playing it after playing any of single-player games.

The beauty of exploring a world full of amazing characters and factions with their own interests, and how you intermingle with all that jazz, while kicking ass. This? Is not it. It's just an MMO. The most disgusting thing a company can do, is take all the heart & tears of the people who dared to imagine such a beautiful world, and try to turn it into a pile of shitty cash. And failing. The show is good though. Thank God Bethesda's hands stayed out of it.
