I picked up Days Gone randomly one day, I was like "why not". The biggest surprise I ever had. It has a deep, sweeping story that had me committed the whole time. It nailed that "getting by in the apocalypse" vibe that's so hard to pin down. Everyone is trying to revive the past either to fight the present threats or find meaning. hello - may i ask you something? i wanted to play Days gone but iam scary if its a old game or you know its from along time.. so please can you give me some information about it?
I'm going through some rough stuff in my life at the moment. Thank you gameranx for giving me peaceful content to veg out to. As odd as it may sound, it is helping me alot. ❤
Same. Lately, I can't afford to play games. And when I do have a couple of spare hours, I boot the game just to realize I've forgotten the plot or just can't keep up anymore if it's online. a As the last 2-hour-play was a month ago. So I watch these videos just for nostalgic vibes.
They had one ready, Sony passed on it and then the studio head went off on one on twitter and blamed gamers for not buying days gone at full price affecting it's sales
I LOVED Days Gone but the story was finished and I see no reason at all for a sequel. What would the story be in a sequel? A continuation of the original characters? Or a brand new MC with some kind of new, epic goal? How do you think it would match up to the original? I'm truly interested because honestly, sell me on a story that's at least as compelling and deep as the original and I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Oh, and the bulk of it can't take place in the existing world/region, because well, where's the massive zombie threat anymore. It would have to take place in a different part of the country, which I'm totally down with, but it would have to be as detailed and geographically interesting and diverse as the existing one.
@@scorpiongod101 That sounds great, but it doesn't sound like a main story goal. I think the main goal would have to be about NERO. I won't go into details about it here, for fear of spoiling anything about NERO for those who haven't played it yet. Also, the greatest thing about Days Gone was the feels. A sequel would definitely need the feels, and it couldn't involve the you-know-who's because that would just be lame because they've already been through it once. IMHO it would either need a brand new MC with an equally compelling story(which would possibly still be a re-hash and thus still lame), OR the existing MC who now helps others suffering with the same issue that he himself had. I could easily get into ~that~, as long as we really feel for those he's helping, with their issues being deeply dove into and expressed to us.
It's a shame we will never get it & even bigger shame that Bend Studios is now making a live service game. Personally, for me, i could care less about live service crap & wish that studios would stop following the next fortnite trend.
Manhunt. Got it not long ago on the new console and although it's dated, the violence.... my goodness, the brutal violence, gritty and dark atmosphere, it was just exactly what you wanted out of a Rockstar game that wasn't Red Dead or GTA. Definitely worth going back to.
I was immediately hooked, and the game just started getting better & better. But then I started hitting some major graphical issues and game glitches, and I left it to simmer on my back burner of Steam games. Might try it again some day. I loved the location, characters, and gameplay of it a lot.
@@mikegarland4500 it was a shame the game had so many performance and bug issues at the launch, 'cause it's a great game and most of people who played didn't kept playing until the moment the game really shines!
@@sherazuki I had the same feeling, "this game is so generic" but, i decided that i wanted to see those big hordes of zombies, so i kept playing and the story started getting more and more interesting and suddenly i was hooked, i even cried in a part of the story lol It's truly a great game.
Becoz of the bugs. Some fb groups where I am a member posted some photos highlighting some hilarious in game bugs. I remember to be pretty much disappointed and disgusted back then. Then I played it in late 2023. Honestly one of the best games I ever played..
Bugs was one reason. The other reason was the protagonist and his girlfriend were not ticking the diversity boxes. Both White. Both Christians and both Bikers.
Plus, kinda unfortunate timing. It came at the end of the "zombie craze" wave, and a lot of people were just tired of the genre. Still think Days Gone did it best, but a great chocolate cake right after 50 good slices doesn't seem appetizing.
A couple reasons, it was a buggy mess when first released, it’s got a slow beginning, Deke takes a long while to get enough exp not to die in a couple hits, plus some reviewers were big mad that it starred a white guy for some reason.
I'm currently doing a 2nd playthrough of Days Gone. As much as I love the story/gameplay/the bike mechanics and the world. I'm seeing now that it is really underbaked. There's so much in this world that is left to be desired. I went into Copeland's camp a few nights ago and instead of going to see Manny or speak to Copeland for a quest I started wondering around the camp. I was in awe of how detailed the camp was. It genuinely looked like a survivor's camp that was built around a big tree.... and then I got to the guard posts. There were multiple of them. On different levels of elevation and they seemed to be in the perfect spots for taking out enemies. Yet, you don't use them. They're just there. Imagine a mission where a horde was coming down onto a camp and you along with NPCs were tasked with culling them, while you fire from the guard posts. And that's basically the entire world of Days gone. It is so detailed, but under utilised, and as a result it loses out on moments you could've had in game, especially because the world can be dynamic. Every building allows you to enter it. Imagine finding a small family hiding out in one of the buildings while a bunch of raiders or freakers were outside it. While trying to complete that a horde could've been in the area and came hunting for you. It would've made exploration so much more captivating more so than just finding resources. It could have even evolved into you needed to escort this family home again. It would've given more depth to making the roads safer by clearing out freaker nests, other than just opening it up for fast travel. I fault nothing else of the game. I love the shooting mechanics even though a bunch of people complained about it. I love the bike and how conservate you need to be (even though people complained that the bike got damaged and ran out of petrol too fast), I love how it's like a ubisoft map but not exactly. I love how small and detailed the map is. I started traversing it without using a GPS when I needed to go somewhere. AND THE HORDES, my god. They're amazing. My wish was that we got a part 2 that kept this same map, they didn't even need to update the graphics. That could've been carried over to the PS5 flawlessly. I just wanted them to flesh out the world a bit more. Make it fuller than it ended up being in the game we got. Thanks for coming to my TED talk :)
With a map of this size, you're talking about an RDR2 (or Witcher 3) level of quality and many 'accidental' encounters which are not marked on your map, but note that Bend Studio is a much smaller developer compared to CDPR, let alone Rockstar, with a much smaller budget, and inifinitely smaller experience and skillset. The fact that they were able to pull this off, i.e. make a game of this magnitude, so that we can all enjoy this great product (granted, after many improvements and patches), is absolutely amazing and Bend Studio couldn't have done it any better under the circumstances - when it comes to game design and gameplay. They did an amazing job and many people praise them to this day. The main problem was the initial bugs, which is why many people didn't pay the full price, together with the fact that this game was burried by pretentious fucks who consider themselves experts.
@@Teodor-u5k I hear you but they definitely could've done more with the world. The encounters didn't even have to be completely "random". It could have been scripted moments when you stumble onto a house or that big ass Barn area. I LOVE days gone for what it is. But you can't deny that a lot of what's in the game is underutilized. The Days Gone Map is also magnitudes smaller that The Witcher 3s or RDR2 and I don't believe Bend had a small budget. If you listen to Sam Witwer talk about the production of the game while he was shooting. He always speaks about how the processes of making the game were different to anything he's done before because they had Sony's baking. We'll never know what happened with the development but I think there was a lot of corners cut to get the game out the door.
I replayed Shadow of the Colossus a week ago and it still blew my mind how amazing the mechanics are in that game. And that last Colossus was still one tough SOB...
Control is one of the best games ever made. The story, the lore, the gameplay, the atmosphere. My first platinum trophy lol can't wait for the sequel 🔥🤌🏽
I think Quantum Break doesn't get enough love. Granted when I played I had absolute zero expectations I was still met with an ambitious game with a nice story and great acting on the live action cutscenes. The gameplay was really fun and fluid with a fair challenge.
@@sauliusvekteris526 I'm aware Sony is the one who didn't greenlight this sequel. It's the same Sony that wants to focus on more live service games. Sony is becoming more and more anti consumer imo
@@aconceitedbeast731 Which is sad because I loved playstation since PS1. Not sure why sony is so anti gamer. When we wanted to play the old ps2 classics again they locked it behind a online only paid service that is super buggy. So many classics from ps2-ps3 and the ceo said "Who wants to play those old games"? They're very out of touch, anti gamer, attacks gamers and says we aren't the core audience when we are. The activsts aren't and don't play games. I want fun games with great characters with great gameplay. Sony also keeps trying to make games into movies. Its not fun or normal when half the game time is cutscenes. Its also not fun to have a cutscene or scripted moment break the flow of the game.
Days Gone is my favorite zombie-game. I like the story, and sure the pacing could be better, but the core gameplay makes up for pacing by being excellent.
I remember being absolutely ecstatic when I came across Alan Wake content in Quantum Break. It went from a game I loved but thought it was dead because no one seemed to know about it or care (literally bought it for $10 not long after it came out like it was some cheap game, turned out to be one of my favorite games) to a game that got expanded and built on. Loved seeing that glimmer of hope for more Alan wake
Days gone still my fav zombie game...Its underrated for sure....Best part is you can use hordes to clear marauder camps or story mission like clearing nero troops lol... its a fun game... I would play it all over again...
The wildest thing is I saw a dev in the comments of a video who replied to a video talking about the game. And he was saying it was a small team and if not for budget issues that had so many more ideas and could make 2 other games off the ideas they had. I believe he was someone who worked on environmental development by memory but they sound like a really passionate team. Who are begging to make another game. And still passionate enough to be in the comments thanking people for noticing their hard work
I loved playing through the Last Guardian! Really have never played anything like it but it was unique to guide Trico. It was frustrating but I wanted to see it through its emotional ending. It reminded me of bonding with my dog. Thanks for the shoutout Falcon!!
Max Payne 3. Got slammed because it wasn't an carbon copy of 1 and 2 but I loved a lot of what it did. Still some of the best 3rd person shooting around.
Good video, Gameranx. A game I've gone back to in 2024 is Sleeping Dogs. I'm not normally a fan of Open World games but Sleeping Dogs is just really good. The story, the characters and the combat are great. I also like the soundtrack too.
LAST GUARDIAN! YES! Hard to describe, impossible to review, its coherent strangeness is unforgettable. If you are tired of video game tropes, like Final Fantasy and other franchise keep repeating, this is one of the most original AAA games ever made. It's also another game which benefitted from a 5-10 year development cycle.
I was just playing Mad Max and was thinking how that game should've been listed. I do know that gameranx loves mad max and has advocated for it a couple times now but god damn...that game is just so fun. The atmosphere is great, from the combat, to the driving, taking on convoys on the road, even the sound design of the engine of your ride...the game is just so SATISFYING! MAD MAX FTW
The biggest factor working against Quantum Break is its Xbox One exclusivity. This game needs a remaster for modern consoles including PS4, PS5, and the Switch 2 (whenever that releases).
It bored me. They mixed too much narrative into the gameplay. I loved the idea of the real live TV to tell the story, I get to sit down get some popcorn and enjoy that, but then please refrain from so much slow walking, action stopping, hand-holding story moments in the gameplay sequences.
The cinematic presentation and various story choices of Baldur's Gate 3 along with the combat and environmental reaction of Divinity Original Sin 2 would be my dream game
Since they aren't doing a sequel to BG3 you might get your wish. Also most the game play mechanics of Original Sin was in the first game biggest different being less involved dialogue and quest options and far less vertically.
man ac unity was such a ride for me. i played it for the first time in 2022 and i loved it. it felt awesome to return to traditional AC after trying and failing to get into the newer ones. what an underrated gem honestly
AC Unity blessed me at launch with zero bugs and to this day its my favourite AC game. Loved the customization, co op was fun, and it had hands down the best movement and parkour system, so much great little details.
I remember seeing the early trailers/gameplay for days gone and being so hyped for its release. It is by far one of the best games I have played, currently playing it again for the 3rd time going for the platinum. Never get tired of it, the story, the gameplay and the amount of zombies you encounter. And the setting to, riding your bike through a zombie apocalypse is so fun
Spec Ops: The Line was the first game I bought at launch price, and I wasn't disappointed. Beautiful, amazing, heartbreaking game. I absolutely adore Nolan North. Uncharted is one of my all-time favourite series. So when he's involved in a game, I pay attention. Spec Ops is also one of the first games where I played through and completed the super hard difficulty levels and challenges. It felt so good. I've watched Days Gone through and loved it. Right up my alley. Can't wait till I can get a copy to play for myself.
I can't recommend _'Quantum Break'_ enough, it has all of the unique _Remedy_ flair with a time bending scifi twist, the combat is solid and I really do love the story. Please play it.
There is still hope the 2 Devs from those days that still remember how to do art and make a 3rd game. (That was a joke btw) But the other 10 left and most of them work for Modern Warfare these days. Went from fired by them. To competing with them to enough success they buy your company. And then they rehired 6 of the people they originally fired after the Respawn sale. So yeah Respawn is dead. TF is dead. And would be overmonetised BR crap if they did clap something together from TF2 and Apex 😊
Alan Wake II was one of the few AAA games I've played recently where I quit 1/3 through out of utter boredom. Yet Control was one of my all time faves and I've replayed it twice so far.
I played Unity the first time back in 2020 right when COVID hit and it was such a visual stunning game. It really felt like virtual holiday at that time. Played origins and odyssey right after it and they were just so massive and padded out. Unity was truly the epitome of the assassins creed series in terms of movement and flow
I watched theRadBrad’s whole Days Gone playlist when the game was released and I loved the story, the voice acting and the gameplay. I bought it on pc years later but didn’t want to commit that much time to it. Wish there’d be a sequel.
I pretty much play Days Gone all the way through at least 2-3 times a year. It is just one of those games that I get drawn back to every few months. It is so comfortable and fun. A great world to just drive around and do stuff in.
I was just thinking about The Last Guardian the other day. I wish they would release a remaster of that game. It would look so beautiful in 4K at 60 fps.
Already runs at 60fps updated on PlayStation 5 that being said doubt a remake / remaster would be well received considering the backlash the current ones are causing
Days Gone is underrated it’s almost criminal. The critics really hit that one wrong (something we’re seeing again with Rise of the Ronin) and I think only reviewed it based off of the first 5-ish hours.
It's actually possible to play most of the Last Guardian in 60 fps on PS5, but you need the disc version. There's a few sticking points where you need to update to the 30 fps version to avoid crashes so it's not the smoothest experience but I found it much more playable at 60 fps.
Quantum Break is by far underrated. Its really fun. You can essentially watch the live action cutscenes as a standalone. It was one of the first games I got for the xbox. Absolutely loved it.
I know I've been guilty of playing games mindlessly and just for the action but when you slow down some of these worlds and universes are incredibly deep and it's not even hidden.
I feel like the technical issues really held Days Gone back when it first came out. I remember that being the main reason behind the negative sentiment. I picked it up when it came to PC and had a blast with it. I never finished it so it's definitely something to come back to.
I never got far in days gone because i didn't want the story to end, after a year i finally continued what i thought was the last chapters only for the 2nd half of the map to open up and the realization i had pretty much an entirely new game to play.
My favourite moment in Days Gone was when I was fighting a Rager Bear, then a Breaker zombie came out of nowhere to attack the bear. I just sat back and watched. It was a "let them fight" moment.
Days gone is one of the few games I've played 5 times and still go back. One of the few games these days with a story that makes you wanna play till 5am.
I'd love it if Bend Studios made a Director's Cut version of Days Gone, porting it to UE5 with visual enhancements and including back a ton of the cut content they had to chop away at.
I'd love this, too, or at least a DLC. Sadly, Sony has the developers working on a dumb live service game because the suits that run the gaming division have no clue about gaming or what gamers want.
As someone who just got to it last year after it went on gamepass, i can confirm Quantum Break still plays great now and is definitely worth your time if you haven’t played. If you like Alan Wake or Control and haven’t played, then you absolutely should- it will scratch that same itch and it’s just wonderful tbh. The live show tie in components are good if you just accept them as homage to 90s style Sci-Fi, the same way alan wake 1 is an homage to suspense thrillers. The nice thing too is that if you don’t dig them, they are absolutely skippable. They only cover side characters and fill in the details of everything happening around the main story. Opt in or out, it’s really your call.
I recently gave days gone a try, and I was BLOWN away. The story and characters were captivating, and not to mention the adrenaline rush you get when being chased by a horde 😭
Just recently played Days Gone for the first time and it got me back into Single Player Story Based games instead of these competitive multiplayer games I’ve been so addicted to. Praying for Days Gone 2
Spec Ops: The Line needs to be experienced by everyone who loves or has enjoyed third person shooters anytime in their lives and never played this truly underrated gem.

hello - may i ask you something? i wanted to play Days gone but iam scary if its a old game or you know its from along time.. so please can you give me some information about it?
I'm going through some rough stuff in my life at the moment. Thank you gameranx for giving me peaceful content to veg out to. As odd as it may sound, it is helping me alot. ❤
Hang in there, gaming brother.
Same. Lately, I can't afford to play games. And when I do have a couple of spare hours, I boot the game just to realize I've forgotten the plot or just can't keep up anymore if it's online. a
As the last 2-hour-play was a month ago. So I watch these videos just for nostalgic vibes.

Alpha Protocol is one of the best games I ever played. I wish they would do a re-make or a re-master. I still think about it to this day.
It just got re-released on GoG. Not quite a remaster, but they were able to add some stuff.
Days Gone needs a part 2 the fact that its taken this long for people to like it is beyond me i have enjoyed it since day 1
They had one ready, Sony passed on it and then the studio head went off on one on twitter and blamed gamers for not buying days gone at full price affecting it's sales
@@rabooey I always imagined it would be a return to farewell to try n take back the city in some way
@@scorpiongod101 That sounds great, but it doesn't sound like a main story goal.
@@rabooey You are forgetting about a prequel.
I loved Days Gone- definitely needs a 2nd game.
Days gone needs a second game but with coop
@@monkeytoes1155 if there will be a coop mode, the hordes should be bigger
Never happen because of stupidito Sony. they rather waste money on The last of us 2 remakes or whatever
It's a shame we will never get it & even bigger shame that Bend Studios is now making a live service game. Personally, for me, i could care less about live service crap & wish that studios would stop following the next fortnite trend.
@@monkeytoes1155dude yes, coop would be amazing
Manhunt.
Got it not long ago on the new console and although it's dated, the violence.... my goodness, the brutal violence, gritty and dark atmosphere, it was just exactly what you wanted out of a Rockstar game that wasn't Red Dead or GTA.
Definitely worth going back to.

@@holdupits420 Thx, I'll keep an eye out for it
Just finished my first play through of days gone and was absolutely addicted the whole time
Days Gone is AMAZING, but it has a really tedious start, but if you keep playing, you realize how much depth it has.
Yeah I hated it at first and just thought it was really generic. Im still highly skeptical to go back but maybe I should keep playing.
@@sherazuki I had the same feeling, "this game is so generic" but, i decided that i wanted to see those big hordes of zombies, so i kept playing and the story started getting more and more interesting and suddenly i was hooked, i even cried in a part of the story lol It's truly a great game.
I loved Days Gone when it came out, I never understood why more people didn’t like it back then
Becoz of the bugs.
Southern white guy is why
Unity's lighting is great. I love it. Sure, Black Flag will always hold a special place in my heart but Unity is damn fun.
I replayed Shadow of the Colossus a week ago and it still blew my mind how amazing the mechanics are in that game. And that last Colossus was still one tough SOB...
I wish they would make a days gone 2

Control is one of the best games ever made. The story, the lore, the gameplay, the atmosphere. My first platinum trophy lol can't wait for the sequel 🔥🤌🏽
I've never platinumed a game, unless you count Resident Evil 7 End of Zoe 😂
Agreed
I think Quantum Break doesn't get enough love. Granted when I played I had absolute zero expectations I was still met with an ambitious game with a nice story and great acting on the live action cutscenes. The gameplay was really fun and fluid with a fair challenge.
I have Days Gone on my pc right now. Great game. I love the bikes too.
Days Gone is one of my favorite games of all time. It's a complete travesty that they haven't greenlighted a sequel to it
We are talking about sony dont forget :) They dont know what they doing

We all know days gone was shitted on because sweet baby inc didn’t get their way with the game
Too many cutscenes for me, but one of my best games !
@@ballistiquebec those smooth AF transitions made up for it!
It wasn't hated for not being a carbon copy. It was hated because it threw mostly everything the original games did out the window.
Days gone is a great underrated game and beating the sawmill horde feels so good would love to see a sequel.
MAD MAX FTW

I'm playing it for the first time on the Deck, it works great!
the fighting sounds very cruchy, and it makes the combat very fun
I had a lot of fun with Mad Max. The world is ok at best, but the combat and driving are really good.
Quantum Break was soo good. Its a shame how it underperformed, because a sequel would be so amazing and was set up great.
@@hauptmann25I enjoyed it. We don't get to see much live action scenes in a game. Specifically good acting.
@@Psygnosis No I meant the in-engine story parts. Slowed the pace down to a crawl.

The critics really hit that one wrong (something we’re seeing again with Rise of the Ronin) and I think only reviewed it based off of the first 5-ish hours.
if a game takes over 5hrs to get good, it’s not very good.
I never got far in days gone because i didn't want the story to end, after a year i finally continued what i thought was the last chapters only for the 2nd half of the map to open up and the realization i had pretty much an entirely new game to play.
for me, the story wasn't interesting at all until that second half of the map unlocked lol, i was slogging through it hoping it'd get better.
Loved Days Gone from beginning when it came out and the story is heart melting man I literally cried , the cutscenes with songs just hits on point
Best idea ever! 😁🤘🏻
I'd love this, too, or at least a DLC.
Sadly, Sony has the developers working on a dumb live service game because the suits that run the gaming division have no clue about gaming or what gamers want.

I didn't hear about Days Gone back in 2019, so only discovered it recently and definitely think it's great.
Ive just replyed watch dogs and even bought the dlc bad blood, great game
