This is just a beautiful journal and I absolutely love all the extra information about what you have included as ephemera. I think you have done an amazing work of art.
A true work of art. Such a wonderful balance of ephemera with lots of blank space (SO necessary) for someone to write in. For your letter to retain the full value, you need the envelope too, so consider keeping that for yourself! Wow. Just LOVE this!
Thank you so much Jamie. I completely agree with the need for writing space. Thank you for the advice, I also agree about the value of the letter. Did the envelope look real? I hope so but it is a scan I made of the original. Thanks again.
That's the best junk journal I've ever seen! Behind every busy page is a blank or lined page to write on. I love it. I fail to see how anyone can use those junk journal pages that are completely covered in print/pictures. Make some thinner ones so I can afford one!

OMG...my interest was piqued when you showed and shared the Earl Bostic handwritten letter. My father is a jazz drummer, and my mother, who passed 5 yrs. ago, was a burlesque dancer, back when it had a lot more class than today. She toured around the U.S. in the late 50's and early 60's, and her favorite tune to dance to was a version of the instrumental tune called, "Harlem Nocturne", which featured Earl Bostic. I grew up with it, and learned how to dance to it. To this day, that tune, the Earl Bostic version is one of my fav tunes, and brings back haunting memories of my beloved Mom. How remarkable that your Grandmother and he, corresponded! I did check, and I see that the journal has sold...boo hoo! You did a great job on this lovely feminine, and vintage journal...TFS! Lil hugs
Oh Lil, That is so cool! I love burlesque, the classy kind. I've actually watched the movie, the one with Cher and Christina Aguilera at least a dozen times. I've heard of "Harlem Nocturne" and read about it when I was researching Earl Bostic. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the original letter. Honesty I haven't got a clue but I believe it's a part of the history of Jazz. If anyone has a suggestion please speak up! Sorry you missed out on the journal but I can never buy a kit and then use it only once so I will make another with the same theme in the future, maybe even soon. Thanks also for commenting on my video, I appreciate it.
@@bookshopshelli Hi Shelli! OMG...you still have the original letter! I would be thrilled and honored if you would consider selling it to me. It is a part of jazz history! When I was in High School...this was in the 60's...we were tasked with creating a scrapbook about ancient history. I was motivated...and searched everywhere I could to find photos and images of ancient Egypt. While hanging around the book shelves at a second-hand store (St. Vincent's de Paul in Madison, WI)...while Mom was shopping...I came upon several old history books about Egypt...loaded with old images of ancient Egypt. My eyes bugged out and I quickly convinced Mom I needed the books for my school project. The books were a nickel each. I proceeded to cut out the images I wanted to create parts of my scrapbook. I thought the book turned out nicely...and was so proud of the quantity of images in my scrapbook. Then my teacher explained the futility of cutting up and destroying several books...to create another. That was 59 years ago...and I still carry that guilt...smiles. Anyway...thought of that when you were explaining the page from a dictionary in your work...

Hi Shelli I just subscribed to your channel. Your journals are gorgeous. I'm about to tackle the composition notebook junk journal. Yours was awesome. Question...how do you glue pages together and paintbrush coffee dye so evenly without wrinkles or buckling? Thanks Rosa
I said in a previous comment that I glued first then coffee dyed. That was a mistake. After a while some of the pages began to come unglued. I would coffee dye first. I lay wax paper between the paper pages and use the paintbrush but try to use as little water as possible. Have your coffee the color you want your pages so you don't have to go back over them. I would only paint a few pages at a time, waiting for them to dry. It was time consuming but I was not in a hurry. It's a lot easier if you have a heat gun. then you can dry in between and go on to the next page. After coffee dying if needed I would open the notebook and lay a heavy book on the pages to help flatten them but it seems to me they dried fairly flat when you use a paintbrush. I always glue the pages together with a glue stick, not wet glue. Use a permanent glue. Starting at the spine glue half of the page then glue from the middle out to the edge of the page. Otherwise with the large pages you will have places where the glue has dried if you try to do the whole page at once. I really hope this makes sense and is helpful. I would really like to do another composition notebook, I started one over a year go but it's been sitting on the shelf. I think I'll go take a look now! Thanks for commenting and subscribing. Look for a Give-away video coming in a day or 2.

@@bookshopshelli oh yes I absolutely loved the victorian style journal you made, it was a year or so ago? I have just recently discovered your you tube channel, yes I am interested in a journal I shall email you for finding out details , etc! Thank you!
Beautiful journal. Great colors, textures… everything. Gorgeous. New subscriber here
Thank you so much, I appreciate your kind words. I'm so happy you have subscribed also, Thank you.
You know your stuff!! You are so lucky to have found all this. Your story is interesting and wonderful. 🤗
Thank you so much Stephanie, I really appreciate your comment.
Thanks for sharing your gorgeous journal. It is so inspiring. I have so many beautiful things from my Mum and Grandmother.
Thank you so much for your nice comment. If the things you have are the type you can use to make a memory book you should do it. It would be very cool to have two generations in one book. I've been thinking about something like that. possibly three generations! Thanks again.
So absolutely beautiful and inspiring work. ❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you so much!
Thank you so much, very nice of you to say. I really appreciate the comment.
just a lovely thing of beauty! Thanks for sharing...It is so very special when you have ephemera of your own family history! I have used lace from my great grandma's store and copied paperwork to add interest to my journals.
Cindy, Thank you very much. I agree, having the personal ephemera adds the extra touch.
Lace tabs, my heart is melting.
Thanks Lisa, I love this lace trim it's the perfect shape for making tabs on the edge of pages and also for the tops of tags. Thanks for commenting.

Hi, I'm new to your channel, your grandma's journal is so incredibly beautiful, every page is a stunning surprise, thoroughly enjoyable to watch. thankyou.
Love your journal. A beautiful collection of well thought out items. I didn’t realize you were in Portland until I saw your ETSY shop. I’m just across the river from you in Battleground. I loved when you said you’d lost your words. Oh my goodness the story of my life lately. I so relate 😉Patti
Hi Patti, Thank you so much for the nice comment. We are neighbors! I've been losing my words for a while now, it can be very frustrating especially when I'm in the middle of a video! I just watched your video for your first journal, loved it! I also subscribed. I'll talk to you again soon. Shelli
Eventually we’re all gonna lose our words, but we won’t ever lose all the love energy we got in touch throughout our lives and only love is important and real.

Love what you are doing, was watching the wood glue ephemera and also your ideas for using napkins. I love to use napkins and I finally have a decent collection but now I always forget to use them! Thanks so much for commenting.

Absolutely gorgeous.😍
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your comment and thanks for subscribing.
I love the lacey page tabs.
Thank you Cyndi, The tabs are made from a trim I buy at JoAnn's. I believe it's called Buy The Spool. You get 2 yards for $2.99 and of course JoAnn's usually has a coupon. It's one of my favorite trims and is perfect for making into tabs. Thanks again for commenting.
Oh my, just found you and your journals are beautiful 😊
Thank you Tanya, that is so nice of you. I'm hoping this year to do a lot more videos including some tutorials and Craft with me type stuff. I hope you will join me.

So interesting beyond beautiful ❤
Stunning journal
Thanks Juni, you are so nice. I'm glad you like it and I appreciate the comment.
I really enjoyed seeing your lovely journal. We must be the same age because I do remember all those things! My grandmother had one of those bracelets with silhouettes. I wonder where it ended up? Anyway, I think this is the nicest journal I've seen...and I've seen quite a few! I'm inspired to try my hand at one now. Thank you!
Thank you so much! What a nice comment. You should try it. Sometimes doing one about a relative, like a Grandmother makes it a little easier because you know the subject so well. It doesn't hurt if you have old birthday cards or things like that to add. I plan to start doing tutorials and Craft with Me's soon hope you'll join me.
@@bookshopshelli I will be looking forward to those tutorials! I have started 3 for my grandma, mom, and my husband that just passed. But after the covers were made I drew a blank! Until I saw your lovely journal. I want them to be perfect, lol, to honor their memories.

Hi Shelli
I just subscribed to your channel. Your journals are gorgeous. I'm about to tackle the composition notebook junk journal. Yours was awesome. Question...how do you glue pages together and paintbrush coffee dye so evenly without wrinkles or buckling?
Thanks
Rosa
I love it…Just subscribed 🥰❤️
Thanks Michelle, I really appreciate it!
