When I was a card maker every edge and everything had to be absolutely straight and lined up perfectly, now making junk journals I embrace all imperfections.
Gold or silver would work really well with teal. I love watching someone else decide what papers they're going to put inside a journal, takes me an age to decide sometimes lol. Hope your hand gets better soon, take care Julie. Thanks for sharing 🌸
Thank you so much for your kind words Magda. I'm glad you enjoyed watching the video. Choosing the right papers for a journal can definitely be a fun but time-consuming process. I actually went with silver and bronze together to get a grungy dirty look. you can see it in tonights video🤗💜
I love this, it is how I tend to approach my work. I would have gladly watched you sorting all the individual elements in each signature, because although I get impatient with that aspect myself, I also find it soothing to do. TFS 😊
Julie, I just enjoy your channel so much! I learn a lot but also I just love all your "visiting" with the viewers. I feel like I know you and your twins - and the kitties, tho of course, I do not. I like everything you make and learn so much. I have a tip for you that maybe you already know. I love magnets but I only use one magnet and then a 3/8" steel washer in place of the second washer - thinner and cheaper and of course, you can sew it onto the journal if you want. So my magnets go twice as far. I am not nearly the talented crafter you are but I am just as cheap (thrifty?). I also have a funny tip. I got a sort of serrated bread knife and I use the blade as a tearing ruler. I got a large lot of knives at the thrift store - they don't offer them for sale, they just give them to me - and this knife just looked perfect for tearing so I tried it. Anyway, Happy Crafting from the middle of the USA (northern Iowa).
So glad you're back. Ohhh I'm feeling your pain for your wounds. Glad you're on the mend. You were missed. The book is looking great. I vote yes to gold but whatever you do, it'll be lovely ❤
Hi Sylvia, so glad you like it love, i've enjoyed making it between teenage drama and injuries. I dropped a tray table on my foot the other day and was forced yet again to put my feet up and let the girls look after me😘 they did a great job😁🤗💜
@@CameliaCraftsDesigns awww, I hope your foot feels better soon and that your hand is healing nicely too. Sending you and the girls lots of love. 💕💕💖💕💕
I do hope your puppy makes it. It is difficult when you have a very sick pup!! Love the tag. I think we all have days when nothing goes quite right. Tomorrow will be a new and different day.
Yes to touches of gold on the cover. It would be there but mostly worn off in places. The medallion definitely needs some gold. It’s a little dark. This journal is coming together nicely 😊. Kitchens are dangerous places especially where cleaning dishes is concerned. I think we all should avoid them whenever possible. Look what happens. Injuries! 😮😢❤ LOL That’s a nasty cut. Ouch 😣 I can’t imagine how badly that hurt. Glad it’s healing nicely but be careful. Xxx weeeeee!
Ooh! So sorry about your hand! This journal is looking fabulous! I like the idea of using little touches of gold. Glad you're carrying us along on your journey. I am totally loving it and can't wait until the next video.
Ouch! Those cuts had to hurt! I hoped no paper headed into them! Hope they’re healing well. Sounds like you’ve had a tough time with the flu thing and this! LOVE the book! And all the papers. That’s a lot of work that goes into so many signatures. I’m glad there is some room at this point for more stuff. I do think gold - worn in places would really look quite nice. Curious what you do with the big bitten paper. Looking forward to the next whenever video❤❤
When you grabbed you awl i said be careful and don't reopen your cut. I would do something like that so I had to warn you. I find out funny when i talk to the person in the video I'm watching. I love that you talked through your signatures thought process. The dang practical side of me always comes out when picking out paper to use and i over think it.
I know, i'm not safe to be let loose Marcie😘 I've been far more random than usual with this one. My plan is to use pockets and tucks to help match up colours in opposing pages. It'll be reight as we say round ere😁🤗💜
:D We say 'black o'er Bill's mother's too. I'm in the Midlands but spent a lot of time up your way as a kid with my Aunt. We also say, I'll gu to the foot of our stairs, when we're incredulous :D
I love the different techniques you have used to make your cover, I've never seen one done like this before. Yes, I think the gold wax would look sharp on this cover and give it even more texture and interest. Your hand looks so sore, I'm happy to see that it's healing nicely! Thanks Julie, for all your wonderful videos!
Ouch! A nasty place for a nasty cut. Glad it's healing. Loving the journal so far. It really will be a stunner with 7 signatures to fill. See you for the next installment. TFS❤
Loving the colour of the cover. You have a really lovely assortment of textures and thicknesses of pages. Glad you talked about flu jab- I need to book mine on for flu and covid booster. Hope your hand gets better soon. A wound on the hand is a real pain as it is always in the way. Thanks for sharing your ideas. ❤
I can't wait to see how this turns out. I think the gold gilding wax would be awesome on your cover. Thank you for sharing. I hope your hand heals fast.
I love that cover Julie. I'm sure gold gilding wax would look lovely but I think I like it as is. I feel your pain with your hand injury. I recently lept out of the shower and involuntarily did the splits. Not a pretty sight at all. I'm laid up for a bit now so your videos are helping me get through the pain I am in. 🌷
Loving how this eclectic jj is coming along Julie. I think a smidge of gold would look perfect on the cover and maybe a smidge on the book plate too. Can't wait for the next video. I hope that your hand has healed by then. Thank you.
OOoo, I could feel those cuts on your hand. My grown kids still give me grief over past kitchen and craft wounds. 😊 Love the signatures and cover aging. I really like the idea of gold leafing. I haven't actually seen a vintage book with it to know if the gold ages or wears off in places or not. So, I guess it's journal makers choice😊 LOL Hope your hand heals fast and the pain doesn't last. Take good care! ❤
Those kitchen and craft wounds can be quite memorable, can't they? Glad I could bring back some memories for you! Thanks for watching as always love☺️🤗💜
Gorgeous journal/book cover you've done a brilliant job can't imagine how beautiful it will be once finished I,ll just have to keep watching 😊tfs ❤ alison
The book is coming along beatufully. That blue is amazing! My sister had the flu shot and made her sick also. I don't take one. Hope your hand is better soon and you feel better soon also!!
Thanks Carol, i think i'm going with antique bronze to fit in with the book plate. Well i ordered some from Amazon, so i hope the colour works. I'll be antique bronzing everything now😁🤗💜
Thank you for sharing your process. Sorry about that accident and glad your hand is healing. I think the gold or bronze gilding paste would be a nice touch, just as long as it's not too much. The color of the journal is so pretty. I look forward to seeing the next steps. Take care and see you soon.
Looking really good!! Beautiful teal color. Sorry about your hand but glad you are on the mend. Excited to see those 7 signatures getting sewn in! Healing hugs ❤️🤗
Julie thank you so much for doing this journal - i absolutely love it - i think the brass corners would compliment the center brass frame but the gold sounds lovely as well lol - i cannot wait for the next part - its so pretty xx
Thank you so much Janet. I'm glad you're enjoying the journal and I appreciate your suggestion about the brass corners. Can't wait to share the next part with you lovely☺️🤗💜
Always a pleasure!!! Love your work, and I'm glad your hand is on the mend. I think the gold would be a nice touch, but maybe something dark or an antique bronze. It might be nice to touch some of the edges of your journal pages with gold at the end too. I've always loved books that have gold around the page edges. 💜
Ouch Julie! Your poor hand. Papercuts are bad enough. I hope it’s starting to feel a lot better now. I absolutely loved watching the process tonight. It’s really very helpful watching how you do this from scratch. I have finally found the courage to have a go with an old book. I even reinforced my spine, by going through your old videos. Though in my excitement, I did put the eyelets in before either painting or covering with papers. 😂But I’ll sort it! Distressing of your album looks so so good. I’m pleased you chose that bookplate, as I was shouting at you to choose that one! You must’ve heard me. Haha. I’m looking forward to watching the next video to see if you added any gold!! Many thanks for sharing how you are doing this. All the weees and laughter certainly have been enjoyable Debs. 💜🤗
Oh Julie, your poor hand! I hope it heals fast and isn't too painful. (Also I felt rough after my flu jab this year so you were not alone in that) I'm loving this journal, my next one was planned as a real miss mash of my favourite things so this was really well timed! A little gold sounds great, 😊 Feel better soon and keep smiling, xx
Hi Julie, I sliced my finger on the blade of my trimmer so I’ve been nursing a cut too! Hurt like the devil the first few days every time water hit it. I got my flu jab two weeks ago. I didn’t feel great for a couple days after but my arm didn’t have a reaction to the jab. I’m undecided about the gold guilding wax. Maybe an antique gold, not a bright gold. You make beautiful journals so I know you will make the correct decision. 😍❤️
Look at us Carol, the walking wounded. Hope it's feeling better soon love. I agree in the wax, i actually did order a bronxe one😘 so much for a no psend month😅😁🤗💜
It seems I always learn something while watching your videos (and I'm not a beginner). I'm looking forward to this series as I love working in non-themed journals. Thanks for the freebies and your wisdom! P.S. Gold is almost always a good idea.
Love the cover Julie, I was using my ruler and craft knife last week and decided to slice my finger for some reason. Very painful to heal. Thanks for sharing Julie. 🙂❤️
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video Shirley, Sorry to hear about your finger, hope it heals soon love. That's why i rarely use craft knives, i'm just not safe with them and my mum would have agreed😁🤗💜
I appreciate this video! It is packed full of information and the guidance I was needing regarding signatures and your book cover. I am so sorry about your hand and how poorly you were feeling after your flu shot. I hope you were doing much better by now! I enjoy all your videos. You sure are a sweetheart! Have a wonderful day!
Thank you for showing how to choose papers, i have watched so many videos and they always jump that step, also i am loving this, it’s going to be gorgeous, definitely to either gilding wax or paste or even flakes, I watch lots of your videos but am not a commenter, just had to on this one xx
Maybe a tiny bit of “old gold” but not bright gold. I think bright or new gold would really detract from the distress look. It’s already looks so perfect. I love the color. I’ve got to buy some 😊
Hi Julie, this will really help me when I make a journal as I always struggle to think what the correct amount and type of papers are, etc plus you gave me a good giggle with your chit chat 😂 tfs ❤ alison
When I did lots of floristry I had a knack of holding a stem in my left hand between my thumb and first finger and I used to cut the skin…..the flap between thumb and first finger. You can’t imagine how much blood gushes out from just a small cut there ! You’d think having done it once I would have learnt my lesson 🤦♀️noooo. Thankfully generally the worst I get are paper cuts….sheesh they hurt so bad and stabbing myself with pins or sewing needles! Oh and yes I’ve put a sewing machine needle through my finger 😵🥴 not that I’m clumsy just try and do too many things at one time. Hope you’re feeling better Julie and your hand is healing well.
Looking good Julie. Yes I got my flu shot last week (USA) and my arm was swollen and red and hurt. 😜 it usually doesn’t bother me. And I went for a crafting retreat and cut my pointer finger while cleaning my scissors. Band aid in the way but it kept bleeding so had to wear one and it made my crafting difficult. But mine wasn’t as bad as yours. Glad you’re on the mend.
So helpful watching your process. I too have an injured hand...thank goodness it is my left one..but I lost control of my largest chef knife, newly sharpened, while cutting a very large sweet potato. Thankfully I did not cut off my finger (the pointer one) but I did remove a good bit of the skin along the side of my nail-bed. So much red stuff pouring out!! Problem is there is no skin covering the wound so I am having a tough time using my left hand, but I have to. Going on six days now. Seems somewhat better, keeping my other fingers crossed it will completely heal with new skin to cover what I chopped off. Funny as you were cutting around the book plate I was yelling, "Julie, don't you remember you said you needed to cut a small bit away from the the line you drew inside the frame", Seems you couldn't hear me. Ok, now on to the next video.
I saw someone talking about all the equipment they use, and it included a pair of tweezers, mainly for little bits on clusters I think. But it made me think & so I found a pair, & I use them for pulling those thin bits to rip.
Looks great so far 😊 Someone suggested in the comments using gold on the edge of the pages, I like that idea, but not sure about putting it on the book cover... then again, the end result always seems to work, lol.
If anyone didn’t catch the Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink oxide used they were Walnut Stain & Vintage photo. Always the 2 go to inks to grunge with. I’m sure that’s what the viewer wanted to know the name of the inks. Nice signature papers.
This was wonderful so informative. I've been doing this for a while but I never actually have done a hardcover book. Anyway I don't want to wait a week. Hahaha see you soon
Great video, will you be showing how you attach your signatures together before binding? Do you sew them? Then afterwards, will you show us you binding your signatures? Sorry,I am still learning!
Hi Vik, yes i'll be showing all that love. I don't sew them together before i bind them. I have an older turotial where i did a 5 signature journal here ruclips.net/video/Qiptp3OkTLY/видео.html Hope that helps love☺️🤗💜
Very much enjoyed this video….ended up watching twice because of learning new techniques!! I get on camera and it’s like I can’t figure out what to do and my mojo blows out the window!! Major bad habit of gluing upside down!! ❤
I think that's the hardest part. My original idea was for a dark green, but i didn't have dark green paint, but this came out better than i expected. thanks love, hope you're enjoying making yours☺️🤗💜
Oh no your poor hand! My skin is terrible for healing, always takes me 3 times as long as anyone else. Hope it gets fully better soon. I would love to see you use some gilding on your journal. I am a total fail with gilding flakes, I have loads but never managed to get the technique right and mine always ends up looking a complete mess - would love to learn how you do it. x
Sounded like a nasty cut to your hand. Glad it’s getting better.certainly go for gold on the cover and on page edges too. I have several family books from early 18C and 19C that have gold page edges. One has gold illuminated print and pictures. So can’t have too much gold Julie.😊🐱❤️
Oh Julie! This is absolutely yummy looking! I love the way the blue shows through the filigree of the label holder! Getting pretty fancy, aren’t you! (I’m always in favor of a little gleam & glitter!) So sorry about your hand, I’ve been nursing a burn from melting wax for a seal on my left hand! No fun! I had my flu & Covid vaccines this past week & both arms were sore for 4 days, plus I slept a lot the first couple of days. Other than that I didn’t have any other symptoms, so I guess I shouldn’t complain. Yesterday I got the first half of the shingles shot & I’m back with a very sore arm. Have to do the second half in December, plus they were all out of the RSV shot so I’m not very happy how this is being drawn out! But it’s still better than getting really sick! Do you also have another Covid shot in the UK? It’s supposed to protect against some of the new variants of it. Feel better soon & thank you for a look at your newest journal! Erica❤I sent you an email.❤
Defo put gold!❤
😁🤗💜
Lovely journal. I learn so much from every one of your videos. I think gold or bronze would look awesome!

Can't wait to see it, sounds like a good combo & a bit industrial looking. 🌸
I love this, it is how I tend to approach my work. I would have gladly watched you sorting all the individual elements in each signature, because although I get impatient with that aspect myself, I also find it soothing to do. TFS 😊
I tend to get impatient too. I love yo find a quicker and easier way to do things but alas it's not always possible 😶 glad you enjoyed it lovely 😊🤗💜

I really love the journal! Thank you for sharing your process of making it.
Oh Julie, your poor hand! I hope it heals fast and isn't too painful. (Also I felt rough after my flu jab this year so you were not alone in that)
I'm loving this journal, my next one was planned as a real miss mash of my favourite things so this was really well timed!
A little gold sounds great, 😊
Feel better soon and keep smiling, xx
Thanks lovely, you're very welcome 🤗😁💜
Hi Julie. How bad can a bit of gold be 😂😂. Up to you though. You have great ideas. The book is looking great already. Hi from Oz. 🇦🇺
I'd love some gold Karen😁😅😘🤗💜
Inspiring video 😍😍 gold is always welcomed😍 please take care of your self ❤ lots of love from arctic Norrway 🙌🌼🏵🍁🍀
So sorry to hear about your hand. I hope you're on the mend soon!
Thanks for another great video. I look forward to the next one.
Ooh, your journal is coming along beautifully! And the papers are so yummy! I like the touches of gold idea too! Can/t wait for part 3🙂
Yes for gold!
I made it! Yay!
Hi Kathleen, thanks lovely😁🤗💜
I hope your hand is feeling much better.
Hope your hand heals quickly! Gold would be nice I think.
Thanks a lot! I'm just hoping my hand heals quickly so I can get back to making more videos for you all. Appreciate your support Cathy love ☺️🤗💜
Interesting process, thanks for sharing
Looks great so far 😊
Someone suggested in the comments using gold on the edge of the pages, I like that idea, but not sure about putting it on the book cover... then again, the end result always seems to work, lol.
Thanks
Thank you so much for your support Lynne☺️🤗💜
If anyone didn’t catch the Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink oxide used they were Walnut Stain & Vintage photo. Always the 2 go to inks to grunge with. I’m sure that’s what the viewer wanted to know the name of the inks. Nice signature papers.
Thank you so much love ☺️🤗💜
This was wonderful so informative. I've been doing this for a while but I never actually have done a hardcover book. Anyway I don't want to wait a week. Hahaha see you soon
Great video, will you be showing how you attach your signatures together before binding? Do you sew them? Then afterwards, will you show us you binding your signatures? Sorry,I am still learning!
Hi Vik, yes i'll be showing all that love. I don't sew them together before i bind them. I have an older turotial where i did a 5 signature journal here ruclips.net/video/Qiptp3OkTLY/видео.html
Hope that helps love☺️🤗💜
Very much enjoyed this video….ended up watching twice because of learning new techniques!! I get on camera and it’s like I can’t figure out what to do and my mojo blows out the window!! Major bad habit of gluing upside down!! ❤
Following this, and have got as far as the cover...now deciding what colour to paint it....
I think that's the hardest part. My original idea was for a dark green, but i didn't have dark green paint, but this came out better than i expected. thanks love, hope you're enjoying making yours☺️🤗💜
Hi Julie, I'd love some of that braille paper...... I'll think of something to send you in return
Cover turned out great 💕. I’m not crazy about bright gold. Antique gold is okay or bronze.
So sorry about your hand! I would maybe use an antiqued gold or bronze wax
Thanks lovely☺️🤗💜
