I so enjoyed this tutorial! I am a seasoned stitcher, with plenty of supplies. This video has reminded me of the fun I had being creative with very little. Thank you, I'll be following along.💗
Thank you very much…I am in the basically “have nothing” camp when it comes to supplies…and experience. I find these small hand stitched pieces so appealing…full of texture and attention. I am appreciative of your sensitivity to the absolute novice and enjoyed this video . Found an old pillow case and a bit of cheesecloth and some buttons. Gonna “have a go” as you all say. Makes me smile.
This is a great beginner tutorial! I like how you give simple examples using items you have readily at hand! Great way to make newbies comfortable and in the end have something useful. 🙂
This was so enjoyable. Most (all) videos on slow stitching assume we all have boxes of fabric and thread and whatnot, so it’s amazing what you can achieve with barely anything. I actually have got boxes of fabric and thread, but still appreciated this 😂
Bravo, I used to sew but that was a long time ago. I did not have a single piece of fabric. I went to a thrift shop and bought some cloth napkins and some pillow cases and curtains. I had threads from other projects. I did buy some lace.
That word wadding just makes me smile. Lol I have batting and I suppose it makes YOU laugh. Language is so much fun isn't it? I know what you mean about not having supplies. I kept every stinking piece of fabric and now I can do slow stitching. I have to help my daughter with supplies for her junk journal hobby and I don't mind as I'm into it too. I hope someday maybe to help another person with some pieces of fabric. There's a place here in town that gives everything away for free. So, im going to have a look for sheets and towels and old pillowcases. Then help someone with fabric and send some threads and a couple needles. Yes this is a grand idea
Thank you for this video!!! I THOUGHT I didn't have any for the supplies for, but you've helped me realize to relook at some supplies I have around the house!
Love your video. I think there is far too much pressure to produce wonderful embellishments etc.on some videos but if you are a beginner you take all the stress away! Thank you.
I totally agree, this is a unique video for that very reason - and there are MANY MANY people who have no room for a stash and can’t spend money on stash when they’re feeding a family and paying a mortgage or rent! It’s BRILLIANT to see this use for dried out baby wipes, and also tumble drier sheets! Even a piece of loo roll would do in a pinch! Most charity shops have a bin of stuff they’ve been donated but can’t sell and you can offer them 20p for a stained cotton blouse and they’ll often thank you for taking it!
Thank you Barbara, so happy you found the beginners videos helpful, just shout if there is anything in particular you would like to see, always looking for ideas.
I suppose dryer sheets might work as a base also. Thanks for this. No one else seems to have remembered the very beginner, beginners the way you have. I'm the type who has to go and buy all the supplies right off but I realize that is not always the best way to go. What if they don't really like doing the craft and then they're stuck with all the expensive supplies. lol Believe me, I've been there. lol Thanks again.
Thanks Susan, I must admit I wasn't going to make the video at first because there were a lot v of starter one's already but when I watched some of them nearly every one assumed you had a stash, so I went ahead and went as basic as I could. Thank you for your lovely comment 💕

I think this is very one of the best videos I’ve seen ! A lot of us are geting into sewing but don’t hve all the trims and ect and you know that supplies are sadly so expensive ! This is a very pop hobby I am seeing akd from paper crafting in journals and even this is is so expensive ! 25 to way more just for some supplies for just enough to make one ! Wow I guess you can’t find junk to save any more ! I wanted to mention goodwills and resale shops may have some decent deals on things ! Also I’d love to go to Estates ! But idk how to find them most the time ! But I do ty for this ! I’ve been told if your a new sewer you can place an add amd ask for anyone’s old scraps that they may have cheaply or wanna throw away but I tell ya it’s as expensive as buying new ! If not higher ! At least my experience and many do just give up ! My kids dad has lost his legs knees feet and employment so I can’t afford it any more amd sadly I’d gotten a Machine sewing that is abs some supplies but sadly all of this happened after the fact of me trying to get supplies togther lol but I hate investing in this and allow myself to be held back cause if this happening in our lives ! Lol but I do ty so much as someone who would like to use reg thread and I have some hand quilting threads that I was wondering how many times I’d double them to be equal to yarn !? Ty so much !
Thank you for such a lovely comment, 💗 to you for what's going on in your life, things come along like that sometimes don't they but a test of charector is to find good out of bad. To make sewing thread roughly the same thickness as embroidery floss would be to use about 3-4 strands at a time, maybe give a slight twist as you sew to make them lay together nicely. My dear late mum used to say to me when things were going wrong 'keep your chin up, it can only get better'. so I'm sending her words to you 🙏

I agree, when I searched 'beginners sewing' every video I saw was based on you having wadding etc (like I say in the video) im glad you found it useful
This is a really great video to start up stitching!! Even though I have experience quilting, that was always done on a sewing machine. I avoided hand stitching like the plague! I’m learning slowstitching now, in a little series that I’m in, but I could have used this basic video when I started! The baby wipes are genius! I was trying to learn embroidery stitches on 1 thickness of fabric - a thin muslin - & was having all kinds of problems! This technique would have been better! Thanks so much!
Thank you for taking the time and putting this together. I have some hand stitching experience but on preprinted patterns; I like the idea of the planning out a piece, But I didn't know how to start. I have a minimal stash of supplies, so this video was ideal. Such a clever idea with the button. Thanks again!
You are welcome! I wasn't going to do this demo because there were a lot of video's on RUclips for basic stitching, the one thing I noticed was that they all assumed you had a large stash, ie: wadding, fabrics etc, so I pared this demo down to the absolute basics, I'm so glad you found it useful.
What a super video for people just beginning to become interested in slow stitching for fun - very inventive use of dried out babywipes!! I use a local charity shop for all my fabrics and bits of lace, I ask them if I may rummage through their donations that ARE stained or torn and those are perfect as you can always salvage little bits of button, lace, cotton, patterned and plain and men’s shirts make great fabrics to stitch on. Everything is £1 so we do swaps with friends and a cut up blouse can provide a scrap for 20 people!

Thank you so very much for taking a rookie like me through the process of beginning slow stitch........I've wanted to try it but felt intimidated ..........I can't wait to get started........Myra Webb
Im so glad you found this helpful, it was as basic as I could get it! beware, slow stitching is very additive! lol, I'm glad you have started your journey
I am just starting this too. I have done embroidery as a teen but my hobby dijour has been crochet. In regarding the tacking I have seen someone suggest a light touch of glue stick. I haven't tried it yet. I'm just practicing stitches. I have nearly mastered a french knot. Thank you for your encouragement.
Thank you for the button idea so much! I happened to be sewing on a slow stitch piece and your video came up in the recommendations. So, long story short...I have a beautiful button with long legs on my work now. I love it, love it!! 💟
Currently trying this. I have next to no materials and my stitches are wonky but im really enjoying it and its going to be the ugliest needle book ever created but im sure im going to love it
We get better by trying, my first things were a joke! Glad your having a go, I try to keep supplies used to a minimum, build yours up gradually as your confidence grows 💖 charity shops (when open ) are a great source
Hi Susan…..I have been doing sewing and embroidery patchwork work for over 60 yrs…every piece is unique ….I love it…every piece as to have a purpose..either a gift or mine to keep, which is very rare …no point putting it in a draw..that’s silly in my books? It is to be enjoyed, don’t you agree? Xxx
@@suzieqmakes All last summer In between other sewing projects, l made 4 beautiful samplers all hand stitched which I absolutely love…as a present for my friend, who had helped me, during my husband’s terminal illness,he died in November last year! They are beautiful, patchwork, embroidery, appliqué, and bead work…l framed them to hang in her conservatory in a block of four,so the sun catches the shiny bits…I told her this…but she has split them and put them in dark corners of bedrooms..and this is someone who can hardly thread a needle!! This as upset me so much…as we say Susan they are for people to enjoy…feel like getting them back to hang in my home ,so I can enjoy them every day, xxx
@@christinepreston8267 I know what you mean about giving to the right people, sorry about your husband, its hard losing one's we love but I always think they would want us to carry on. I know Jan, like I said in the video I wasn't going to do the videos but every 'beginners'. Video I watched they had tonnes of wadding, fancy fabrics etc, I went as basic as I could, did you find it helpful?
Hey I also have been seeing people make yo-yos by cuting a basic circle or heart any basic style and runing a small stitch around them amd you could take different scraps from old cloths like you said here abs make them and you maybe can make flowers out of spare parts !? Maybe you do a video for that possibly !? Again ty !
What a helpful video. I've been searching the internet for help. I ordered 2 kits because they were pretty and reasonable. No instructions. I was told by both woman you just do your own thing. One kit came with a hoop. I know it was so helpful when i did cross stitch. What do you think or is it up to the individual?. Thanks for sharing your experience. 😊
please i watched this video of yours, and i can't find anyone to explain to me how to sew a fabric book to the end? did you make the second video of this one? if yes please where is it.? Thank you so much😉
I enjoy your videos! If you don’t have supplies?… everyone has a Walmart-- grab a few fat quarters, a few embroidery threads, and you are in business… at least to get going. Just my thoughts ❤
I forgot to say that I love this idea of fabric art/ slow stitching… I am watching you diligently… can’t wait to see what I can do. I’ll be watching ❤️
Yeh, wish we had a Walmart in the UK sometimes, this was aimed at people who didn't want to go buy stuff, just use things from around the house, good suggestions though, thanks
I apologize if I did miss something, but can you tell me why you put the baby wipes in there? I was cleaning out and recently gave away a stack of fabrics. I change up my crafts constantly... and then got reminded of this wonderful craft. thnku...😊

We get better by trying, my first things were a joke! Glad your having a go, I try to keep supplies used to a minimum, build yours up gradually as your confidence grows 💖 charity shops (when open ) are a great source
Thanks so much❤
Love this tutorial. Best!!! Best one. But using white or gray wasn’t a good choice.
I totally agree! I did that video a while back, I have learnt since then to do brighter colours when stitching!
Xxx
I totally agree Christine, my latest pieces have been made into wall hangings which I see every day in my craft room
Maybe you could say to your friend you've got some bits you want to add to the wall hangings and forget to give them back 😁
finally someone to start with the nothings of a rag bag.all I watch say they have nothing but they ALL have " designer scraps "
I know Jan, like I said in the video I wasn't going to do the videos but every 'beginners'. Video I watched they had tonnes of wadding, fancy fabrics etc, I went as basic as I could, did you find it helpful?
Have just checked out your mini series and book marked it. I also like to have a purpose for the finished item!
Wonderful! i hope you carry on with all the pages, thanks for commenting
Great tutorial TY for sharing. 🥰🐞🤗
They have Sashiko thimbles that go in front of the base of the finger on the inside of the hand. I haven't tried one yet but they look interesting.
Oh no Sharon, something else for me to find to buy 😂 thanks for the tip ❤️
Flannel or old denim- suggestions for backing
yes, great ideas, it was a challenge to think about stuff people would naturally have on hand instead of having to buy, thank you Rebecca.
Hey I also have been seeing people make yo-yos by cuting a basic circle or heart any basic style and runing a small stitch around them amd you could take different scraps from old cloths like you said here abs make them and you maybe can make flowers out of spare parts !? Maybe you do a video for that possibly !? Again ty !
Hi Tonya, yes that's something to think about, I have made fabric tulips before so maybe I will make some more on camera! Thanks for commenting 💞
Thank you so much😉
on my channel there is a playlist for slow stitching projects, you should find all the book pages on that playlist, I hope that helps.
@@suzieqmakes thank you very much you are right, i found it 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😍😍😍
I enjoy your videos!
I change up my crafts constantly... and then got reminded of this wonderful craft. thnku...😊
The dry baby wipes were to replace wadding if you don't have any supplies
@@suzieqmakes oh... Thank you for letting me know. I have so many supplies in this house that I need to get a new house with an extra room for my crafts. Lol
@@cathystaub4645 I know exactly how that feels 😁
Y e s. I love this.
In U.S., the Dollar Tree and othef 99c stores have sewing materials very inexpensive for starting out.
Thanks for sharing that Debra, those in the USA have lots of choice, sadly the UK doesn't have the big stores like you guys do 😕
Help! I can’t find part 2....3?.....
there is a playlist - slow stitching, they should be on there, sorry for not getting back sooner
Love closeup-I can really see 👀 now! 😍
Coffee filters
Most people fall into one dominant catagory: either product or process. Sounds like you are more of a product person!
Just kept it as basic as possible for those who are starting out in their sewing adventures! Thanks for commenting 💞
@@suzieqmakes My comment wasn't meant to be critical, just expanding on your need to view your creation as useful!
I didn't think you were, sorry if my reply made you think that, thank you for commenting in the first place Denise, I love interaction 💗 I hope you have a lovely weekend
@@suzieqmakes All is well~. May the peace of God rule your heart & mind today.
1 hrs 8s plenty of time, not too long. Another idea is you could stop the video, do most of the flower, then come back and complete the flower and carry on.
Thanks Jean, I'm such a novice at filming but I'm slowly getting there ❤️
I go to yard sales.
Thank you
