I am almost 69 years old. I was a music/percussion major in college many years ago. I stopped playing percussion. Because of multiple surgeries, I’ve gone back to it in order to strengthen my hands. I really like your explanation of this technique. Thank you. And yes, the technical exercises are definitely helping condition. My beat up hands.
Okay, first Skyrim Grandma and now the God Mother of Drumming. Gods you ladies seriously make me smile knowing that age means less than some folks want you to believe.
Great video, thank you so much, Dorothea. I've been struggling with the Moeller Technique for a while now, but after watching your video and the ones from Jim Chapin, I was able to develop my technique. For everyone with the same problem, I highly recommend starting slow, it's always the best tip, whatever your doing or learning, a new drum fill, one groove, a technique, always starts slow and as you get comfortable you increase the speed.
Thank you so much for caring about us and sharing this sort of secret. I do believe we should learn this right from the beginning. I had to search for it, as I was not told by my teacher and when I brought it up, I was told it was advanced technique. I can see that there is a trick to it and it must take much practice, but why not teach it right from the start? Thank you for your caring mother’s heart and the wonderful way you teach and for the wrists you are saving by sharing this. ❤
Thanks, Dorthea, for this lesson on Moeller! It saved my arm, wrist and hand from pain the morning after gig recovery. Sixteenth notes are effortless with this technique.
This is by far the best demonstration of this technique I've seen. So many conflate push pull with the Moeller technique and it's very confusing. Thank you for being awesome.
A few years ago I finally got this technique and what a difference in my drumming. This has seriously saved my wrists and helped ease the tension in my hands and neck as well. What a valuable technique indeed. I find that many times I used a blend of this technique and the push-pull together with finger control which is quite versatile. Great lesson Dorothea, thanks for the encouragement.
Thank you!! Yes, with all the techniques combined in your muscle memory you will automatically go to the method needed for that particular song or fill. They are ‘must knows’ for drummers.
Thank you Dorothea, you are so inspiring. Its so important to talk about longevity and injury as well in drumming. It's not talked about enough in my opinion.
Dorothea! You may not remember me, I lived in Myrtle Beach during the 90s and you and I went on a date to see the symphony. I'm not even sure how we met..may have been through Mike Rogers. I was playing bass in a band called Between Four Walls at the time up and down the Carolina coast and working as a stage hand at The Carolina Opry. Went back to MB after I moved away for a visit and you were working at McFadyn music where I had brought in my Chapman Stick to try out on a few amps. That was about 15-20 yrs ago! Anyway, I have been enjoying your videos! Stay funky sistah!
Great video, thanks so much! My elbow feels like its coming out a bit too far, and it definitely hasn't "clicked" yet but thanks to you I'm confident I'm at least on the right track, so it will come with time!
Great explanation! As you mentioned the Moeller Technique is mainly used on the cymbals. Is there for every technique (Moeller, Push-Pull, Finger-Dribbling) a certain situation, or can one be used in every situation? I really appreciate your videos
Yes, different situations/grooves/styles you will find yourself using push pull, Moeller, fingers, wrists. Comes with playing and years of watching, learning and practicing. 😊
Thank you for the great video. Just wanted to ask, but when you do the second tap on a triplet, are you using the fingers to pull it a little bit or is an exaggeration of the momentum from the first hit?
I can’t do it. 😢 I’m 58, all I can play is single stokes. People think I’m great and I’ve toured f decades. I’m a terrible player, but I my body is in so much pain 😢
@@Arthur-ke9vz So sorry to hear that you are in a lot of pain. I have arthritis and a terrible back but I still continue playing g while I can. I can’t imagine only playing singles though haha. Sounds like you did okay though.
@@dtdrummerlady omg, the public doesn’t care. I wish I could play as well as her, but I’ve hacked through decades. I can’t say here because of my contract, but I make 6 figures playing like shit. I rob the first aid station for band aids , Wayne Newton gave me thousands of batteries for my ears and bandaids for years lol. At the end of the day though, at 58, I’d love to learn this. I’m a nobody, just lucky. A metalhead that gets along with others and doesn’t bitch.
@@dtdrummerlady I have cancer, but I’m ok. Besides all of that, I just did my best. I sing, so that helped, I can swing, I can shuffle, but can’t play rudiments live to save my life. Thanks for responding

Nice crisp snare sound. Unlike many youtube drum superstars...This woman KNOWS that the drums are a musical instrument. Great pitch.
Thanks I appreciate that!

Godspeed.

Thanks so much. Hope it helped
i love this tecnique it sounds so good!
Thanks.wondeful as always. Simon Australia
Thanks a lot! I'm starting out and this was a huge help!
Thank you. Can you do a video where you do an exercise using the Moeller technique at different tempos? I'd like to be able to practice with you.
Great explanation!
As you mentioned the Moeller Technique is mainly used on the cymbals. Is there for every technique (Moeller, Push-Pull, Finger-Dribbling) a certain situation, or can one be used in every situation?

Dorothy.....I studied with Jim Chapin....I learned more from him in 3 months than any of my teachers.....Ralph Onofrio
Awesome...Is Moeller technique same with ghost note?
The high sticking is for show.
Thank you for the great video. Just wanted to ask, but when you do the second tap on a triplet, are you using the fingers to pull it a little bit or is an exaggeration of the momentum from the first hit?
The first is a downstroke that stays down, the second is a wrist tap and the third is an upstroke.

You are holding the stick in your left hand incorrectly it is unmatched
Do you use unmatched techniques with your feet ? 😎
I use unmatched techniques on your mum
Great lesson..!! Thank You…😊
